This is the first contractor that I have hired that did everything right, from their pricing to the installation. Gasper and his crew did a great job of replacing and installing a new sump pit. I was amazed and pleased that they got the work done in a timely manner and respected my home in the process. The job was dirty and dusty and yet they kept everything clean. Matt and George installed the pumping systems and did a great job explaining to me how the system works. I chose J & S off my Angies List and I'm completely satisfied with the job. If I have any future plumbing needs there's no doubt that I will call J & S again. My thanks to Gasper and crew, Matt and George for doing such a great job!

They got back with me and showed all of there crucial credentials and licenses. Which was impressive. I was very impressed with there last meeting. I just wanted to let AL know that they really kept to their word. Also I would recommend them to anyone on Angie's List.

They were in and out quickly and were very nice.

Went very well. Had them come out to quote, I needed a couple water heaters, for my personal water heater and a rental. They were competitive with a package price. Took the time to answer all my questions about plumbing and water heaters. Were punctual and did a good job of communicating arrival times. I also hired them about ten years ago at another residence I owned for a new water heater. When they replaced that water heater we learned that the drain line was clogged and the sump pump wasn't working, they fixed those items as well without charging an exorbinant amount, which is why I contacted them again.

Tub had not drained properly for weeks. We have a brand new toilet that was backing up about every 3rd time it was used. Conclusion is that we need to re-pipe (House was built in early 50s and has original plumbing in most of it) but they got the roots out of the lines (neighbor has two trees) so tub and toilet work for the time being. I want to add that we had tried without success to hire another plumber but he did not answer calls and when he did he said he was coming out and never did. Because we personally liked him we gave him chance after chance but I finally got fed up and looked for another plumber on the List. This company answered their phones, told me the flat rate, said they'd be out asap and were. Called before coming so I could put the dogs away and were prompt, courteous, professional, clean and responsive. Such a relief!!

I was not initially pleased with J&S Plumbing and shared my concern. I was contacted by the owner and he personally addressed my issue. I find that level of service to be exemplary and not too common these days. I will give J&S another try the next time I have a plumbing need. Thank you.

I have no problems with the work that was done. I asked about the discount (coupon) at the time of the estimate and scheduling. I was told they would apply it to the final bill. However, my Angie's list discount wasn't taken off. I have called them three times now and all I get is a "we'll call you back" answer. I wasn't home when the work was done so it wasn't caught at the time of service. I have been trying to get answers ever since. They did good work but their customer service is very lacking. Going forward, I will not accept any estimate unless the discount is reflected. Lesson learned. *** They finally credited my account for the discount and gave my an apology a well. Thank you

I'm very happy I went with J & S Plumbing. This is the first time I've used them but it won't be the last. They answered all three of my phone calls during the course of the day and were very courteous. Hillary was my contact there. She gave me an excellent price for the work performed. Sammy did the actual work, and did a great job. The backup (battery operated) pump was not draining the pit and so he had to work with water constantly in the sump pit, which was not easy. The area in question was very small and the pump was a tight fit, but Sammy made it work. He was great, and worked the whole time until the job was done. He even came out at dinnertime and did the work, rather than having me wait until the next day. They honored my Angie's List discount, and did the work the very day that I called!

They replaced leaking pipes in my bathroom crawl space. The technician I worked with was Mark Brown and I was very impressed with his service. He was courteous, timley and gave me multiple options on how I could have done the repair. He was very respectful of my home and my propriety. I would different recommend him again.

I contacted J&S because I had an issue based on Angie's list directory. They contacted me quickly and we agreed on an approximate time. They contacted me before the time to confirm. They evaluated the problem and rodded out the main sewer. This partially solved the problem. Then they rodded out the downstairs bath sewer. This completely resolved the problem. I am sure both needed to be rodded. Professional and quick service. I thought the price was reasonable but did not compare to other plumbers - they did have a 10% coupon that I used. I will use them again for another job.

This happened late on a Friday afternoon. They were out within 2 hrs of our call and did an efficient and complete job repairing the pipe and cleaning up afterwards. I would definitely use them again, if we were to have another plumbing issue.

They did an excellent job. Cleaned up after themselves too. I asked about using them on a regular basis to do preventative maintenance, and we will do that. A very successful transaction.

It was good and I was happy with it.

Job was professionally done however $260 (after discount) for 20 minutes work even on a Saturday seems quite pricey. Weekend work is worth a premium, but last time I had this service performed (2 yrs ago during Mon-Friday hours by a competitor) the cost was $100.

The repairman was prompt and courteous and I asked him to diagnose and fix my leaky shower. He found 2 leaks and fixed them and I thought the price was acceptable. Unfortunately, the next day we found that it was still leaking. Called them back and someone came out right away and fixed a 3rd area where it was leaking. They didn't discuss a price with me, and then charged me full price again, which I didn't think was acceptable when the job was to fix the leak completely the first time.

We called J&S Plumbing when our sump pump started running for three days and water backed up into our laundry sink. Jason and Lester came out and rodded through the 2" Clean Out for the drain that both the laundry sink and sump pump drained into (which was set up by J&S Plumbing in the summer). They pulled out many roots and determined that the problem was the copper pipe going to the main stack. They charged $189.00 and recommended we break up the concrete in our basement and replace the copper pipe under there that went to the main stack. After they left we still had the same problem despite the rodding they had done. We called another plumber to get another opinion. He went right to the main stack and began rodding. We had recently heard from friends that this could be the issue, but we didn't suggest this to the plumber. The plumber we called rodded the main stack 25 feet and pulled out lots more tree roots. He was here for four hours and charged us less than the J&S plumbers. They never mentioned that the main stack might actually have the problem. We ended up finding a collapsed drain in the yard that turned out to be the actual source of our problem. Once that was replaced everything rodded to the main sewer. We feel that J&S let us down by focusing so narrowly and not even mentioning that rodding annually is a necessary precaution (which we didn't know and didn't do for 14 years). So we paid $189.00 extra for nothing since J&S didn't solve nor suggest the actual possible cause of our problem. Update: 2/2/15: I contacted the owner about this situation. He apologized and offered a refund, which we accepted. We had used them in April and had a good experience. I feel better about the company again after speaking to the owner, but I really do wish we had not had to go to that length.

They were excellent! They must've been here til about midnight working on it and were very reasonable with their rates.

2nd floor toilet backed up into bathtub. After I tried to clear my 2nd floor toilet with plunger and an auger I realized the blockage was much further down the pipe. I chose J&S Plumbing after I noticed the high ratings they had received on Angie?s List. I called in evening after 5pm and the J&S dispatcher said they could send a plumber right away that evening or the next day. I opted for the next day. Daniel and his team arrived in the morning on time and began working. Overall, I was very impressed with J&S Plumbing and Daniel and his team - they were professional, focused, informative, and very easy to work with. They are 100% customer focused every step of the way. They tried to clear the 2nd floor toilet with a longer auger, and when that did not clear the pipe they moved to examine the sewer pipe downstairs and discussed different options with me. Using a pipe router and a camera they were able to determine the problem which was a broken sewer pipe in the crawlspace. Daniel offered to come Saturday to fix the pipe (day after next), and fixed it enough so I could use the toilet till Saturday. Daniel, Leo and Edwardo arrived early Saturday morning and spent around 5 hours replacing the sewer pipe. They had to crawl through a tiny window into a very cramped 3-4 foot ceiling crawlspace, dig out and replace an extensive portion of pipe and fixed the connection to the 1st floor bathroom toilet which had not been properly connected to sewer line (my home inspector missed this) plus they added a clean out. And checked the rest of line to make sure everything was clear to the street - all within the original quoted price. Last they flushed the system with water to test everything. Like other reviews say here, J&S Plumbing is focused on doing the job right and they are 100% customer focused. I was very glad I called J&S Plumbing and I highly recommend them. I will definitely use them again in the future.

Our serviceman was Sammy. He was excellent. Very quick, professional, and right on with his diagnostic hand. He was quick to come (same day). The price was very fair. We have had other plumbers, and are very impressed with J&S Plumbing.

I will never use them again. I got a ton of attitude from him. He was annoyed that the sump pump that he installed failed and needed to be replaced. It was under warrantee since it was a year old. I don't care that he was not making money for this visit. HE was so rude about it. In addition, was the crappy job he did with the piping to move the water away from the house. He attached a ten foot pipe that is supposed to move the water. He placed it on a piece of wood about 3 inches by 1 inch. Of course the pipe fell and broke because we live in Chicago. The pipe cracked and fell from the house. He rushed through the job to other jobs to make money!!

It was an excellent experience - from my initial phone call to the time it took for them to show up. I had to shut off the water in my house as a pipe in the backyard was shooting out water. They came promptly, the gentleman who showed up knew exactly what the problem was and explained my options to me. Their price was fair and I went ahead and had the work done. He explained everything he did to me in detail and what the problem was. He was courteous and very knowledgable. I am so glad I found them on Angie's list and would refer them to anyone and use them again.

I had had a bad experience with two J & S employees that came out to give me an estimate on a project. I reported the experience on Angies List. After reading the review the owner of the company called me to hear the entire story and vowed to make things right. He contacted me again and offered to pay for half of the repairs I had done by another company. That impressed me. I felt he genuinely cared and was concerned that his employees appeared to run up a bill. He was true to his word, I received a check and would feel OK giving J and S another try.

I chose J&S because of their high ratings on Angie's List ... and after using them, I can see why they are rated so highly. They were professional, knowledgeable, on-time, informative, and great to work with. The first plumbers to come (Jim/NIck) evaluated my toilet and thoroughly explained the problem. Later, after I bought a new toilet, a second team (Mark/George) came to install it ... both were great to work with. Mark was extremely knowledgeable, conscientious, informative, hard-working. He thoroughly explained all work, and gave additional information on toilet function, stability of floor, etc. As a former teacher, I was very impressed with how he was training/mentoring the younger plumber (George). He was a great teacher, clearly explaining details and procedures ... and made a point to praise the younger guy as work was done well. Overall, I was very happy with J&S ... their work, knowledge, ability to communicate, and positive attitude.

I want to start off by saying IMHO, I think this outfit is honest about the work required. (I don't think they would "recommend" unnecessary work.) That being said, I probably won't use them again for two reasons: - I think their charges are higher than most. (A service call is $98, which is just to show up at your house. Alternatively, if they need to do some investigation, then that is a $150 "diagnostic" charge. Replacing the wax ring and re-installing one toilet is $200.) - They weren't up front about there being a difference between a service charge vs. a diagnostic charge. (I'm having some floors re-done and noticed some stains in my second floor wood sub-flooring near some fixtures. When I initially called, I explained I wanted to know if these were caused by existing plumbing problems. I was told of the $98 service call charge at that time and scheduled the service. When the service was performed a couple days later, the plumber mentioned the $150 diagnostic charge.) I asked them to limit my total expense to $300 to replace the wax ring and re-install the one toilet. To their credit, they agreed. It wouldn't have been much more ($330) with the 10% Angie's List discount for any work performed, but I appreciated the accommodation.
