Dr. Moats and his team are exceptional! I've had a lot of dental work through the years and no one is as knowledgable, thorough and as skilled as Dr. Moats. He takes the time to get to know you as a patient and includes you in the decision making process so you feel in control of your care. I needed a new crown while pregnant and he was simply the best. I'll be going back post-baby for more care, including some cosmetic work. His entire office is wonderful, from Janet the hygienist, to Allison his assistant, to Moana at the desk. I appreciate them all and am grateful to have found this amazing dental practice!

Dr. Moats is an excellent dentist. He’s very caring, fully explains all procedures, doesn’t push stuff you don’t need, offers alternatives that may be more economical, and is extremely meticulous in his work. His office staff is very friendly and his dental hygienist, Janet, is excellent as well. There’s no waiting for your scheduled appointment and I appreciate that they are considerate of my time. I highly recommend Dr. Moats.

He is the best dentist I have ever had. I quit going to him for a while because I moved. I tried other dentists but they failed me. I now drive a little over two hours to go to him and it is worth it. He is conscientious, thorough and makes sure you feel no pain. He truly cares about his patients.

Dr. Moats is an incredibly warm, professional, and respected dentist. I was absolutely terrified and ashamed on my first visit - I’d been away from the dentist for nearly two decades due to fear and budget constraints. But Dr. Moats and his staff took wonderful care of me. They have been encouraging along my dental journey- so much so, I no longer fear “going to the dentist.” Instead, I can’t wait to see Dr. Moats, Jenny, Janet, and everyone else there.

Very well. I met Dr. Moats about 30 rears ago. My teeth were in bad shape, and over time he has taken them to excellent condition - he is meticulous about every aspect of his work, and I would recommend him without reserve, especially to those with serious problems. And his staff is outstanding.

Eighteen years ago a friend suggested I try Dr. Moats saying "He's more an artist than a dentist.". She was right but only half right. I had been to three established dentists and none of them had the education, training, and experience to compare with Dr. Moats. The proof was in the pudding as they say. In one visit, I went from sub-par care to extraordinary dental care. Yes, Dr. Moats is an artist but he is far more than that. Even an artist can tire of creating porcelain perfection. Dr. Moats is the unusual mix of a high achiever and a man with a true heart for his patients. He wants to give his patients the best qualitative result while making the whole experience as pain free and pleasant as possible. Dr. Moats is the exceptional professional holding himself to the highest standards (technique, lab work, customer satisfaction) while doing all he can to adjust to the changing needs of his patients. Great dental care is one of the best investments in a lifetime of good health. Dr. Moats and his capable staff will do all they can to give you this and much more.

Great experience when going to this office. Feel like Dr. Moats and all the staff really concerned each visit has a positive outcome. Seems like they always have the latest technology to minimize any discomfort. I am difficult to numb for fillings and other dentists require multiple injections - with numbness for hours after the visit. This does not occur at this office. They have a technique that isolates a much smaller area - with minimal lingering numbness. I also have a difficult bite so they also let me know what to watch for in the future. Very friendly, quality service. Would highly recommend to others.

Our family of four have been clients of Dr. Moats for about five years. He is the kindest, most caring dentist we have ever been to. During an initial consultation, he gives his clear communication of what he finds and a plan for moving forward. He is also so concerned about pain level during service. He will make sure you are as comfortable as you need to be. He takes his time and communicates along the way so you always know what steps he is taking. His staff is just as fantastic. Very professional, courteous and respectful of your time.

Dr. Moats has a very comfortable, spacious, state-of-the art office with a friendly, professional staff. Dr. Moats allotted plenty of time to do the quality, truly artistic work that he always does. He is meticulous. Even the shot to numb the area is always painless. He, and his dental assistant Nancy, work seamlessly together. You can't help but feel at ease in their very capable hands. During the procedure, he would ask me if I was comfortable. The temporary crown was in before I knew it and I was on my way to enjoy the rest of my day. By the way, if he needs to refer you to a specialist, they are always of the same caliber as Dr. Moats. I have been seeing Dr. Moats for many years now and even though his office is over a half hour from my home, I continue to make the trip because of the quality care he provides. I would definitely recommend him. He is a superb dentist.

I had posted a review of my initial experience with Dr. Moat’s care on October 13, 2013. At that time, I was looking at an extended period of dental work spread over a period of three years that was going to include orthodontics, oral surgery to remove the remains of a poorly done root canal years before, bone grafts to replace the bone lost to infection from the root canal issue, gum restoration, and then a full mouth cosmetic restoration. As he had from the beginning of my treatment process, Dr. Moats continued to oversee the additional care I needed at other offices in preparation the full mouth cosmetic restoration he would perform. The restoration was completed this fall, and as impressed as I was with my initial treatment plan and care, I am beyond grateful and thrilled with the finished product. My bone structure has been restored after two bone grafts, my gums are healthy, and I have a beautiful smile for which I will never be able to express enough gratitude. As so many of his patients have posted, everyone in this office is so professional, welcoming, and pleasant. A portion of my treatment plan included two eight-hour appointments and one four-hour appointment. Everyone went out of their way to ensure that I was comfortable the entire time. Even at the end of those long days, Dr. Moats would not end the appointment until he was absolutely satisfied that everything was perfectly aligned and my bite passed his exacting standards. Tomorrow I will have the final back molar crown permanently cemented in place. This is another example of Dr. Moats’ exacting standards – two of my back molars contained very old, large amalgam fillings that were cracked, and Dr. Moats was concerned that each of those two teeth might need a root canal. He did not want to have to drill through a new crown in a few months, so he chose to use temporary cement until he was more confident that the teeth were still strong enough. This is an outstanding group of people who provide the highest quality of care.

I strongly recommend the mighty Dr. Michael Moats Dental office. My wife and I, no slouches to professional dentistry, switched to Dr. Moats a year ago, with rock star results. Dental Heath Maintenance--Previously I had 3 cleanings and check-ups a year. Now at Moats it's two, and my teeth are much cleaner. Jan, the office maintenance "tech" even taught us a better way to floss and to brush. Dr. Moats Dentistry--Our smiles, our bites, and the way our mouths feel, have never been better. Tooth by tooth analyses. Mercury-free filings. Actual new teeth from veneer replacements. Whitening. Bite adjustments. Thanks to the good Dr. and his smart and sweet assistant Nancy, all successful. Cosmetic Dentistry--My original reaction was why bother? I'm not in Hollywood, on TV or a Dating Site. But I cosmetic-ized anyway. Okay, so now that I have 4 new front teeth and overall enhanced choppers, have I received any compliments other than from my family. Heck no! But who cares? I like my mirror a lot better, I feel more confident in public, and though other people don't react overtly, there's got to be a subliminal positive effect. Last but not least, Administrative Asst Jenny is so friendly and pleasant, your checkbook or charge card will feel like it's on Novocain when you pay her for your bill.

I went to Dr. Moats and he did a thorough set of x-rays that went below the teeth into the roots and found that an old root canal was failing. (Who knew that even happens!?) Anyway, he recommended me to the same endodontist that my old dentist had sent me to previously, and he confirmed that was what was happening. It was treated and the problem went away. On another occasion, after Dr. Moats worked on a tooth that he told me could end up needing a root canal afterwards, I began to have increasing pain. Any day that I called, they squeezed me into his schedule to try to adjust the crown in case that was causing the pain. But, in the end I had to have another root canal. Dr. Moats arranged so I got into the endodontist right away before a long trip I had coming up the next week. I am extremely grateful I didn't have to see another dentist or wait until after the trip to have it taken care of - the pain would have ruined the trip. I'm extremely grateful to have found Dr. Moats. (To be fair, I'm not that knowledgeable about dental pricing. I gave a B for price because his prices are lower than my previous crazily priced dentist - things would cost twice what my family members have paid. But I don't feel like I'm getting away with a bargain either. But, Dr. Moats said that he doesn't use cheap materials in order to have extremely low prices. I feel like his care, concern, and thoroughness are worth some extra money, if it is higher than some dentists.)
Description of Work
I loved my previous dentist, but I have lots of problems with my teeth, and I felt like my old dentist wasn't interested in putting in the extra effort that my unfortunate mouth needs despite their exorbitant prices. I looked around and am so glad I found Dr. Moats. I felt something was happening with one of my teeth, but my old dentist didn't really do much investigation and said they were going to do thousands of dollars of work to teeth in another area to try to solve the problem (based on the hygienist's recommendation - the dentist barely examined me). It seemed like they were just guessing. Which might have been ok, but I felt like I should get a second opinion.

He was very thorough and gentle. He knew his stuff! We had gone to several other doctors who couldn't help, but right away he was able to diagnose the TMJ and was able to help her. The staff were very caring and actually followed up to see how she was doing.

I seriously cannot say enough great things about Dr. Moats and his staff! When I first came to Dr. Moats about three years ago my mouth was in sad shape; I needed replacement crowns that a previous dentist had done (very poorly), needed a root canal, and several fillings. The doc and his lovely ladies have since done all this work for me and you would never know that I had such bad teeth at the beginning! The doctor broke the work up into manageable chunks and was very reasonable with the billing for all procedures. They have also kept me in good shape in between with regular cleanings and identifying (and in some cases resolving) potential issues before they became bigger problems. I was a dental-phobic prior to Dr. Moats, but now I have no fear of the dentist. From Jenny at the front desk, to Janet for my cleanings and Jessica, April and Dr. Moats for the more involved work, I have never felt in more capable hands. Over time they have managed to make my sad mouth into a happy, beautiful and smiling one!

I wrote a review about Dr. Moats when I first started seeing him about five years ago -- about how modern and up-to-date his practice is, and about what a thorough examination I received. I feel compelled to write another review now that I have been seeing him for a number of years now. Dr. Michael Moats, in addition to being the finest, most professional dentist I have ever worked with, is a kind, caring, and funny man. I recently had a suspicious sore on my tongue that he was worried could have been the start of some sort of oral cancer. Dr. Moats instantly referred me to one of the top-notch oral surgeons he works with, and within two days I had a biopsy and a preliminary diagnosis (NOT cancer, thank goodness!). Dr. Moats kept in close touch with the oral surgeon, and the two of them have been monitoring me closely to make sure that I am healing properly -- which I definitely am. Maybe it takes a scare like this to let you know what great hands you are in when it comes to your oral health! As you would expect, Dr. Moats surrounds himself with a cracker-jack staff -- people who are just as friendly, warm, and caring as he is. I am so happy to have found Dr. Moats through Angie's List all those years ago, and I'm so glad that I can have the opportunity to recommend him -- AGAIN -- to other people. He is simply the best!!!

Dr. Moats is highly professional and he and his whole team(Janet; Jessica and Jenny) work hard to conduct careful assessment and to provide clear, thorough explanations for any dental work before it isperformed. I was impressed that after my first visit, I was given a comprehensive written assessment along with photos of each of my teeth. Dr.Moats and team go out of their way to explain each action and procedure thoroughly (even basic cleaning) and assure comfort throughout the visit. I highly recommend Dr. Moats!

The dentist was angry that I wouldn't pay to have his hygienist clean my teeth. I have been going to a place to have my teeth cleaned for years and wanted to continue going there. The dentist started to do a filling, which he couldn't complete after an hour of working on it. He admitted that he shouldn't have started the procedure and that he wouldn't be charging me. He end up sending me to a surgeon to have the work done, which cost me over $1000. I had to go back to the dentist to do the "Initial Patient Comprehensive exam and consultation" being offered to Angie's List members. He took a bunch of pictures with his fancy machines, didn't explain any of it, and the receptionist billed me about $245, even though I was an Angie's List member and their ad states members pay $195. I spent about 2-3 months attempting to get the overage refunded to me before I was finally able to get ahold of the dentist to get it resolved and refunded.

As always, an excellent experience. Dr. Moats and his staff are professional, friendly and always on top of their game. I used to have a fear of dentists but from the moment that you walk into the office and are given a warm welcome from the receptionist to the time spent with the hygienist and Dr. Moats, it is actually an appointment that I look forward to attending! I found Dr. Moats through Angie's List when we first moved into the region and the reviews were outstanding and I am thrilled that my family have found such an excellent dentist and team.

Many years ago another dentist, now retired, applied veneers to improve the appearance of my front teeth. With time, the veneers deteriorated, and I wanted to bring them back up to snuff. I made an appointment with Dr Moats on the strength of the recommendations on Angie's List. My first appointment with Dr Moats was a consultation (without charge) for him to assess what he could do, how much it would cost, and so on. Dr Moats practices alone and has a well-appointed office in a professional office park. Surprisingly, I was asked to fill out a full medical/dental history. With that in hand, I joined Dr Moats in his office, not in an examination room, a normal office with a desk and chairs. We went over my responses on the questionnaire, probed the details that seemed relevant to him, and discussed my general health and dental history. Then, I explained the procedure I had in mind. The interview lasted about 20 to 30 minutes. Dr Moats revealed himself to be both serious, offering advice on a few points, and good-natured in conversation. In the examination room an assistant took a few x-rays and Dr Moats examined my teeth. He laid out the four options he could offer from the most expensive (about $1500 per tooth, which is the only option my regular dentist offered) to the least expensive ($400 per tooth). He explained the differences objectively in thorough detail and left the decision up to me without pitching any option over the others. Since I'm in my sixties and don't require the smile of a network anchorman, I opted for the least expensive option. He would, in effect, do a touch-up job on the existing veneers, repairing chips, filling gaps along the gum line, evening out the contours, and so on. I made an appointment for two hours of work two weeks later. Since the work was all superficial, there was no need for anesthesia and there was no pain or discomfort during the procedure. With the exception of one momentary visit from another patient (a welcome rest for me), Dr Moats devoted the full two hours to me. (I dislike when dentists attend to several patients simultaneously, dashing from chair to chair while changing gloves). The results proved to be thoroughly satisfactory. It's hard to imagine what more I'd have gotten if I'd elected to pay four times as much. After about six months, everything is holding up nicely and I and I remain satisfied with the outcome.
