Gray Tree Service

I paid $99 for $200 of tree trimming service. I called Gray Tree Service and explained I had a crabapple tree that was getting too large, and growing into my evergreen tree on the north side. Gray came out to provide an estimate, and we agreed they would just trim the sides (not the top) for the amount already paid. Gray said it would cost another $250 to trim the top of the tree, which surprised me because it's not that big a tree. Gray came out, and in 10 minutes -- per my wife -- they had trimmed the tree. When I got home, I found the tree had not been trimmed on the north side where it was growing into my evergreen. I called back, and Gray came back out and trimmed the tree as I had originally requested. They did a very nice job, and left nothing behind for me to cleanup. I had some communication issues with Gray, as both times I spoke with them it seemed to be on a poor cell phone connection, and the person always seemed rushed.

The price, even if we used the available coupon, was more than other providers. We did not use them because of the price they quoted.

It was fine. I guess they did a good job. I have to wait and had to call them and kind of remind them about the deal. They're a small local company.

Gray's arrived on time. They were quick, efficient and very professional. The large limb they removed required them to use a truck with huge 'jaws' to safely trim and position the limb. I will definitely use them in the future for all my tree maintenance work.

Gray Tree Service seemed to have done a pretty good job. It's two years later and we're doing well. We've had some storms and the trees have been fine. Nothing is falling, so I think they did a good job. I think they're original price is high, but the $99.00 Big Deal was doable.

It was a horrible experience. I called them and they said I didn't have to be home when they came to do the work. I wasn't home and when I came home, I was missing a tree. There was never a tree to be cut down and they had cut it down. I called them up and the foreman admitted that it was his mistake but he was not very conducive to fixing the problem. I told him I wanted a new tree and he finally agreed to replace it with a tree that was between $200-300. There was all kinds of problems between he and the landscaper that he chose. He told the landscaper that he could replace the tree in the same spot. The landscaper couldn't replace the tree in the same spot because he didn't grind the stump appropriately. So they had to move the tree; thereby, the landscaper has to open up a larger area and had to put down a new landscaping fabric and stone. The foreman wouldn't pay for that so I ended up paying a $400 bill for his mistake. Besides that, he was messy. They asked me if I still wanted them to trim the tree in the back. Well, I had already paid for that. So I came out and sat on the deck and watched them. I did not have to pay whatever extra fee.

They were great, they came in and they were exactly the price they said. I would give them like stars across the board. We didn't have any problems with them. That guy next to me had a weed and it certainly became a tree and it was growing into my garage, and I was like I'm removing it so that's why I got it. They were very perfect and the time they came out it was perfect.

I called Gray Tree Service on Tuesday and they sent out their 8 guy crew with several trucks on Friday. They were here at 7:15 and they were gone by 8:40. They're a well oiled machine, extremely efficient, and they knew what they were doing. Other then the trees that were gone and stump removal that had wood chips there, everything looked immaculate. I can't say enough how wonderful Gray Tree Service were. They were one of the best services I've ever had.

Everything went smoothly and quicker than we thought it would. They had the trees removed in only a couple hours (considering 2 of the trees were very large!).

Dealing with this company is like pulling teeth. No part of my experience with them qualified this company for all the glowing reviews that prompted me to call and there's no way I'd hired them.

Overall - top notch. Received a call back within two hours of my original call on Monday. The owner's Dad was out to give me a quote within 2 hours of when he originally thought he could come out - two days after my original call. An 8 man crew arrived within the hour of the quote. They worked together as a team. They were efficient, polite, and gave attention to detail, by cleaning up afterward. The crew supervisor, gave me some tips on trimming my tree going forward and advice on how to treat carpenter ants. The supervisor discovered another branch that was dead and did not gouge me on price, to remove that branch as part of the overall job. They honored my request to cut up the larger branches for firewood, at no extra charge. This is my first time I used Angie's List. I purchased a discount coupon for Gray Tree Service on Angie's list, at the time I signed up, that effectively reduced the overall price by $100. I would greatly recommend Gray Service to others and I would recommend Angie's List. A side note, when I first did an internet search for tree services, I called another local tree service company, listed on Google. They did not return my call within two days as promised. I had to call them again 4 days later. The company then took another 2 days to come out for an estimate. They made an appointment to do the work 3 days later and then did not show up, nor call to reschedule. Why would anyone ever not consult Angie's List first, when it comes to receiving customer-vetted recommendations for home service companies?

Excellent response time and communication. The job was completed within 24 hours of my initial contact with Rick. It was a pleasure doing business with Rick. He quoted the job and didn't push me to add services. The crew did a great job. They dug up some plants that blocked the equipment path and replanted them when the job was complete. You requested all the details: I worked a midnight shift. At 4:00am on Tuesday June 11th I sent an e-mail requesting a quote for stump removal. Rick arrived at my house around 9:00am on June 11th. I showed him the three stumps I wanted removed. I also asked if the trees needed trimming. He quoted the stump removal and advised me that the trees were in good shape and did not need any trimming. That was a welcome surprise. In all my prior experiences with other landscaping companies there was always some additional unplanned work they felt needed to be done. The crew arrived at 2:00pm on June 11th. I had a last minute work meeting and was pressed for time. They quickly showed me the path for the stump grinder and pointed out some plants that would hinder it. They offered to dig up the plants to clear the path and replant them when the stumps were removed. I left for my meeting and the job was completed. Great service!

Rick, the owner, was very responsive. He was willing to work with my tight time schedule. Work was done professionally. Crew was polite and you could tell they really knew what they were doing. They worked well as a team and cleaned up so that it barely looked like they were here. I would highly recommend this company.

We had dying pine about 30' tall, that we wanted to get rid off. We called up Gray's Service, got a prompt callback to schedule a visit for an estimate, which was very reasonable. Gray's was accomodating in the days we wanted the actual service to be performed. On the day of the service, everything was done as discussed and per spec. The whole process was a pleasant experience due to the high level of professionalism and value of service from Gray's.

Overall great except, I asked for all tree limbs hanging over the different roofs to be trimmed back. They did not cut down one major limb and refused to come back out to trim it down.

I purchased an Angie's list coupon for $400.00 of service for $198.00. I called and explained what I needed and he said the coupon would cover all of it. They came out and performed the trimming as promised. My trees look much better! Rick sent a follow up email to check on my satisfaction. I would highly recommend them.

They were prompt and did a good job. I called them a few days ago to make an appointment for them to come back out. I would give them all A's. They provide a good service and we will use them again in the future.

They were great! They called me back right away came out to give me an estimate for tree removal and were able to remove one other and a stump that I had forgot to ask for initial estimates on without issue. They were there and gone in no time at all. Everything was completed as requested and they left the area neat and clean. Very satisfied with the service.

Rick was very responsive, arrived just when he said he would and was very attentive to all of my concerns and questions. I'm glad I purchased the coupons through Angie's List as they save me $200 since the service ended up being all of teh $400 plus another $250. The results were just what I wanted so it was money well spent.

very fast and organized, good clean up, coordinated effort, worked very efficiently. like professional circus acrobats. very professional job. As far as the Angie's Big Deal. I bought (2) prepaid 199 dollar coupons the autumn before. Gray's reduced the price to 850 with the coupons without flinching. I did not feel like I got a big deal. I just prepaid about 400 of the price.

I called the week prior to get an estimate for this tree in my front yard. I got a call back within a day with a price. A few days later I decided to go with Gray Tree Service. I called on Monday to schedule and was told that it would be about a week before anyone could make it out to me. When I went home for lunch the crew had already started working on this tree in my front yard (not expected but then again, the sooner the better in my book.) It was an unexpectedly warm/hot day and the crew did a good job and were even nice enough to remove a dead limb from a small dogwood tree also in my front yard. I had confirmed the job with them and the were no issues with the communication about this job. The one thing that bothers me is that they did not remove the stump. Instead, they ground it down to just below the ground level. Ok, I guess for the price and from what I've been hearing from asking around this is common practice. This review level is because I am unhappy with them leaving a huge mess of shredded tree in the middle of my front yard. This is not right or normal and they wanted an additional $100 to haul it away :(

When the company appeared as one of the Angie's List big deals I contacted the company to get an estimate. I had a written estimate within 24 hours. We had record breaking rain so it was a while until they could come out. But when the rain stopped Rick called and told me a crew would be by. The crew let me know they were there and explained they would take down the tree but would have to come back after the ground dried to remove the stump as the machine would tear up my yard otherwise. They made short order of the tree (they have it refined to a science with a lot of teamwork) and then left. They came back a few weeks later to remove the stump, let me know they were there so I wouldn't let the dog out, and they removed the stump. They left me an invoice for the balance due. They were quite professional, did what was promised, and were spot on for the estimate.

Everything went as expected. Would use again.

The estimate was more than I wanted to pay.
