The annual maintenance service went well. I asked about replacement options and the rep answered them well giving me 3 options. He also checked my credit with my approval. I said I'd review the options and get back to him the following Wed. He continued writing and then put a contract and a pen in front of me wanting me to sign it for the replacement of the A/C. I stated again I'd let him know. He left. I reviewed BBB and Angie's List and decided not to use Air Rescue. Wednesday came and I went off to the gym early. When I got home the Air Rescue install team was in my driveway waiting to install the new A/C! I explained to them that they were not needed and they left. They said it must have been a mix-up. The original rep had not taken my check with him so I mailed it to them. Friday after I cooled down I phoned Air Rescue to complain. Last week I received a card from them and they'd included my check, voided.
Description of Work: I called them based on a coupon for annual A/C service and because I wanted to see what they'd recommend for A/C replacement. Mine still works but it's 18 years old.

Response from Air Rescue Air Conditioning
(member name removed), I was reviewing the concern and do see there was a human error made with putting the pending installation on the schedule. I'm sorry the installers inconvenience you by arriving at your home and as soon as we realized that they were not supposed to be routed there they left. Every company makes mistakes, it's what you do when you make those mistakes that sets you apart from the competition. We make effort to correct any errors that we do and not only make it ok but make our customer happy that they used us. We always make contact with upset clients either through the BBB or Angie's list which is not what I can say for a lot of air conditioning companies that may or may not have a higher rating then us. One thing that factors into our rating would be our size and amount of customers. We are the largest company in the area and have the highest amount of customers that we service. Most of our customers are from referrals which means they like us so much they send friends and family to use our services. We have a B on Angie's list and are always striving to improve that. Unfortunately a lot of the complaints posted here have been resolved and the client that has taken the time to put their concern on the website, doesn't take the time to take them off when we take care of whatever they were not happy with. That's not very fair to our company and with no guarantee fixing the customer's concerns will be beneficial to our company, we still try to do something for them. A lot of times these concerns are posted on these websites before giving us the opportunity to resolve the issue. The day we did the tune-up for you we did not collect the fee for it because we were waiving it if you did decide to do the installation of the new unit as we do for all of our customers. As you stated since you didn't purchase the unit you mailed the check in to pay for the balance from the tune-up the technician performed. Without you asking, we mailed that check back to you voided after you informed us that you were not using our company to service your air conditioner just because the installation was put on the schedule and not in the pending section of our board. As of right now what else would you like for us to do to change your opinion of our company for the mistake that was made, even if you choose to never use us again. We hope that you can forgive us and not let that mistake give you ill thoughts of our company but instead to see the willingness of our company to admit it. take responsibility for it and fix it.

Saw an ad in the paper for $79 A/C cleaning/ tune-up.. We haven't had this done since installation a few years ago so I figured I'd go with it. Prior to our A/C replacement (air handler in attic) in 2007, the last unit wasn't really taken care of.. (cheapest filters and an old dog in the home).. so the ducts over time filled with dust and smell stale.. I was concerned about the ducts so I mentioned it in my intro email.. the rep immediately replied back that I could have a discounted appointment of $49.. then I got a long explanation of why their company doesn't clean a/c ducts anymore.. that other companies do this hoping for extra charges if they damage the ducts.. that they use better quality 'solutions' to rid the problem at the source.. (but my problem was already dirty ducts....). So the tech came out to clean our A/C for the $49 charge.. he was very nice and did the job.. he didn't pressure us to buy anything but did give us papers if we wanted to buy the maintenance program.. He left when finished and that was that. My problem was that I believe they use this 'fear duct cleaning' story to sell people really expensive system add-ons that they may not want.. I don't live in a hospital.. i have pets.. all i want is clean air. She didn't seem to understand that my ducts got dirty because of using improper filters in the last system.. She was really interested in selling me one of their U/V something add-ons to tackle the problem at the source.. that this would kill anything in the system and it would be flushed out.. (not sure how this would have cleaned my already dirty ducts but anyhow).. so then I looked at the site I was given with prices on these units... ($5,000 to $8,000!). Now I know why I got an instant discount for them to come in the door.. they were hoping I would buy one of these units... all I really wanted was duct cleaning, which they don't do.. their tech even wrote on my paper that the ducts are 'heavily contaminated' and need cleaned... ok really, how would your company address this if you don't clean them yourselves? So now I have to use another company to come out with the machine that goes through the ducts to clean my ducts as they should have been.. and they're going to basically go over what this tech has already done anyhow. I'm not saying they're not good at what they do.. but they are good at what they do.. and that's selling product. I would use them again if I had the need, but it's important to do research first.. I was ready to believe what they told me in not having ducts cleaned.. but this new company (ACR, listed here highly rated) has reassured me it's safe and they do it all the time.. that's what I needed all along.

Response from Air Rescue Air Conditioning
First we would like to thank you for allowing us to come your home to have the opportunity to earn you as a customer. I reviewed the paperwork and I do see where it says heavily contaminated, but I do not see where it states that they need to be cleaned. We do not clean ducts and are very forward with that. We do an alternative and more preventative solution that we feel from experience is more beneficial to our customers. We used to do duct cleanings and the procedure was to go out assess the ducts to see if we felt they were at risk of breaking or ripping depending on the condition of them. At that point with the customers permission and approval of quote we would do the duct cleaning. Even if ducts looked ok and seemed to be a good candidate to have it done, as with anything it is hard to predict potential problems that may occur during the procedure. Especially when it came to aging and material of the ducts. Such as when a doctor advising the risks that may or may not occur it was a procedure that may have complications. When doing the duct cleaning you have to stick a long armed roto brush that has bristles on it that spins around to loosen the debri on the inside of the ducts to be sucked out. Unless the ducts are made of metal, most are flex duct that is about as durable as a plastic bag. If someone was to try to clean a plastic grocery bag with a bristle brush if they are not careful they may put rips in the bag. A lot of times even though customers knew the risks they were not happy if any tears resulted from having that done. "Why would we offer something to our client that may cause them to need repairs or replacement done?" Is what our clients would tell us. So we searched for other alternatives, and yes, they are more expensive but they are permanent solutions to duct cleaning. A lot of customers that have had any bad experience from duct cleaning can really appreciate the value of those products. Not only do they clean the ducts, they sanitize the air that you breath by removing bacteria and other airborne particles that are not good for you. Some companies use a shop vac that goes only a fouth of the way through the duct which really doesn't help at all with the situation and they charge you for it. We prefer to offer a product that can benefit our clients and though it is not for everybody it is an option for everybody we service. We discounted the air conditioning tune-up for you because we were not sure if you would or would not like the product and did not want you to pay full price for a visit you may not find as something that works for you. When the ducts are dirty the unit has to be dirty as well because the air blows through the ducts through the system so the cleaning did need to be completed on the air conditioner anyways. It seems you are happy with everything overall except for our methods and pricing which would be a customer preference issue. We do not want you to feel that our intention was just for you to purchase that item we just wanted to offer it as a resolution to what you called us about and we hope in the future you would consider us for other services not basing it on the one indifference. We will be refunding your maintenance fee to you because we have 100% satisfcation guarantee and do not want you to feel what you paid was for nothing. If there is anything else we can do please let us know. Thank you again.

Their monthly fee for providing 6 month tune ups is quite reasonable. However I am pretty certain these guys work on commission so be VERY careful on what they try to sell when they come to do their tune up. On my last visit I was given the following recommendation: KSI Start Kit with relay $290 7.5 capacitor $169 Pan treatment $79 Corrosion Inhibitor $169 Stage 2 Biocide $1127 Stage 3 Biocide $1127 ------------------------------------------------------------- Total $3061 This visit occurred in August of 2012 on an A/C unit that had come with a new home purchased in October of 2006, so I had been using the unit for less than 6 years. Seriously . . . $3061?!? I told him thanks but no thanks to any of it. Buyer beware.

Response from Air Rescue Air Conditioning
(Member name removed), Our position and responsibility as our customers air conditioning profressional, is to make available anything that is preventative or prolonging to the system. They are just suggestions and accessories that can help maintain the unit to keep it running at optimal performance. If there is an expensive repair that needs to be made to the unit and there was something that could have been purchased at a lot lower cost to prevent that, what would be the thoughts on it then? That we are not doing our jobs and why was that not suggested when we came out. Either way we have learned to inform the customers what parts and accessories are available, what they do and let them decide so at least they have the choice. The start kit assists with the unit start up taking some of the stress of the major component of the system which is the compressor. That is the most expensive repair besides replacing the unit. Lessening the kick of each start up on the unit can make it last longer, less breakdowns and lower electric bills. Some customers prefer that. The pan treatment is a treatment that we guarantee to the point it comes with a 6 month warranty. If your unit leaks and causes damage to your home or floors in between maintenances, then we will pay for any damages to your home out of our pocket. The corrosion inhibitor prevents rusting in the unit that can cause all kinds of problems. The stage 2 and 3 are indoor air quality products that sanitize your air and prevent bacteria in the air and unit. Those items come with a lifetime warranty which means even if you have the unit replaced, they go with it and you would never have to replace them again. Those are just accessories though. The capacitor that he suggested is the only thing he suggested to be replaced because it is out of specs and is on the verge of failing and when it fails the unit will not cool. It may last a long time or it may go out in a few weeks or days. They have a charge that shows what the readings are supposed to be and if the readings are anything under the level they should be at, we have to inform you. If we did not and the capacitor went bad a few weeks later the question would be why didn't we tell you when he was there and the customer may even assume that we did something faulty. That item listed on the invoice shows that we detected and informed our customer there was a problem at the time of our visit. I just wanted to explain this to you so you could see it from our side that if we didn't go over these items with our customers we would be receiving a different kind of post. It would be that we are trying to cause repairs because we aren't offering things that could have helped prevent breakdowns on the unit if the customer realized there was something that could have prevented it that we knew about and didn't inform them about it. We have refunded half of the membership fees to you because of the membership cancellation. If there are any questions or concerns or anything that I can do to correct any issues we have made please do not hesitate to contact our office. Thank you.

Air Rescue failed to show up for scheduled appointment that was made weeks prior and verified appoitment the day prior. Air Rescue rep said they tried to call but no answer on day of appoitment, this is 100% false, I was home all morning waiting on Air Rescue, my time was wasted and Air Rescue is not depedable or trustworthy, will never use air rescue again and do not recomend air rescue to anyone.
Description of Work: Seen add in paper three weeks ago for total A/C system service, made appoitment for March 23, 2013 between 11:00 AM -1:00PM. On March 22nd (Friday), recieved mesage on answering machine to confirm appoitment, returned call to air resucue and confirmed appoitment for 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM on March 23rd. On March 23rd at 1:00PM air rsecue did not show for appoitment, called air rescue and informed air rescue rep that air rescue has not shown up for schedueld appoitment, air rescue rep stated someone tried to call but no answer. This air rescue rep statement is 100% false. I was home all morning waiting for air rescue appoitment and there were no calls or any mesages left on anserwing machine. Air Rescue failed to even show up for scheduled appoitment even after they called the day prior to confirm appoitment, I returned air rescure call that was left on answering machine and spoke with air rescue rep and confirmed appoitment., DO NOT recomend air rescue since they fail to show up for sheduled appoitment, air rescue is untrustworthy.

[member name removed] : ) I spoke with you after the review and we addressed the concerns you had which were very valid and again we cannot apologize enough for the mistake that was made that day. When we came out there to do the maintenance they did inform me that the technician was closer to 11 in the 10-12 time frame even though there were notes to be punctual as we strive for with every customer. I hope overall with your experience from our office and the technician we sent out that you have forgiven our mistakes and enjoyed using our company? We do not want any customer upset with us and will do what we need too to take care of it and though we are not perfect as nobody is, we are a good hearted company with the best intentions. Our technicians go through more training in one month then any surrounding air conditioning company goes through in a year to ensure we are providing the upmost service to our clients. Though we are a large company, as I hope we have showed you, we still keep the values of a small company that takes the extra time to show our customers they are appreciated. We hope that you give us the opportunity to service you again and if there is anything we can do please let me know and we will do whatever we can to try and accomodate you. Thank you!!!

Great less of a problem then I expected.
Description of Work: We heard a loud POP from somewhere in the A/C unit and the unit shutoff. I checked circuit breakers and everything else I could find to check and all looked well. I raised the temp a couple of degrees and the unit came back on but on checking the vets for air flow it was much less than previous and the temp of the air was not as warm. Called Air Rescue at 8:00 AM Tey scheduled a serviceman for between 10-12. She also explained service charge under my maint plan. The Service Tech Jamil Perry Arrived on time and got right to work. I followed him around and watched him make many different tests. Once he was satisfied what the problem was he explained it to me very completely. (unit is designed to turn itself off it in the situation it encountered.) No Problem. During his checking things he found circuit board that was a bit charred and replaced it. It was covered under the 10 year parts and labor warranty. He also found a few other items that were covered under the warranty and recommended on the work order that those items be taken care of before they become a problem with failure of the part. I was impressed with Mr Perry's professionalism and knowledge. What could have been a real pain for me was a relatively pleasant experience. I would recommend Jamil and will ask for him if and when I need a service Tech again. Good Job.

On 12/01/2011 i purchased a BIOCIDE STAGE IV unit upon the recommendation of the TECH who had come to my house for their semi-annual service. It cost me $1699.00. I had doubts about it, but caved in to buy it. It was winter time and we had no real reason to test it out because a/c was not used during the winter... we used heat occasionally but not very often all seemed well enough. Then came the summer... when visitors would come to my house one of them said "whats that smell?" i said what?? they said it smells like a gas smell .. I didn't pay it much mind but i was concerned.. the summer continued and we had this funny smell when the a/c would come on .. again .. it was not overpowering but it was annoying when the a/c came on... at the beginning of august we left the country and did not come back until November. we continued to use heat through the winter and had all but forgot about the smell until..... we had a hot day in February .. i turned on the a/c and the smell came back.. then went in to the garage and unplugged the biocide stage iv unit and the smell went away. now i had the source of the smell. i promptly called air rescue and they sent a tech to my house the same day. he smelled it and agreed BUT he said there were gasoline containers in my garage that could be causing the smell.. i doubted his theory but we moved the containers to another area away from the hvac unit. he said his boss told him to wait a week and see if the smell goes away.. it didn't go away... its the biocide stage iv unit. the company told him that it was unlikely that i would get my money back as i told the tech i wanted it removed and my money back. The tech then told me to call him in two days after his visit to report my findings .. i did that and he did not return my call. he may have been told not to answer my call... I had no idea that my BIOCIDE STAGE IV unit was causing this odor until i found out myself ... THIS IS THE PROBLEM WITH AIR RESCUE ..THEY LOVE TO SEND TECHS TO YOUR HOUSE TO SELL YOU UP ON EXPENSIVE ADD-ONS TO YOUR UNIT.. I once had a guy on a service call spend 7 hours at my house to convince me i needed a new evaporator. He was subsequently fired and i got a new unit under warranty . but not after a 3 page fax to the company president... The last tech was not a sales tech and he was down to earth and competent.. AIR RESCUE SAYS UNDER THEIR GOLD PLAN U GET TWO FREE VISITS A YEAR TO THE HOUSE FOR SERVICE .. I PAY THEM 19.95 A MONTH... YOU DO THE MATH -IT IS NOT FREE... THEN THEY SAY U GET A DISCOUNT ON PARTS .. HOW WOULD I KNOW THAT? THEY NEVER SHOW YOU HOW MUCH ITEMS ARE FROM OTHER A/C SUPPLIERS.. They will respond to this review and spin their yarn and say how great they are .. but i ' fall for their baloney any more...as soon as i get this BIOCIDE STAGE IV issue over .i am done with them .. i could do better with an independent a/c repair guy .. that my neighbors use.. didn't fall for their scare tactics of them saying you cant do without them .. like i did for more than 3 years of many ups and downs... DON'T FALL FOR IT... you can do better. WHY ARE THEY SELLING THESE UNITS WHEN THEY KNOW FULL WELL THE ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH THEM.. I WANT MY MONEY BACK!
Description of Work: They came over to check out a smell coming from the vents.. HE did nothing but agree that it was common to have that smell coming from the BIOCIDE STAGE IV UNITS .. VERY EXPENSIVE UNITS THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO FRESHEN YOUR AIR AND KEEP YOUR DUCTS FREE OF BACTERIA... HAHAHA.

[member name removed], Thank you for your review of our company we really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. As you are probably aware of they are supposed to let you know what accessories and preventative products are available otherwise you may not know what is out there for your air conditioner. Some customers are interested and want some of these products, some do not. If you want we can definitely just have our technicians write out the suggestions on any accessories and only inform you verbally of items that are not functioning properly with the system. If you would like that please let us know and we will make the notations to your account. Again we appreciate you being such a loyal customer to us and if you have any requests of us please let us know we will do our best to make it happen.

Fix cost was significant and the unit was going on 12 yrs. Explained that energy savings would be on avg. $300 per year in electricity. Spread out over 5 years thats the cost of the repair job. Repair job will be good for 1 year warranty. The new AC unit parts and labor covered for ten years. He (Joe) was professional/experienced and found few ways to save $$$.

In July 2008, Air Rescue installed a new AC/heat pump system for our home which cost about $11,000, plus an additional charge for duct cleaning and some duct re-routing. Problems and leaks began almost immediately after installation. Since that time, we have had not less than 38 service calls, including having to have evaporator coils replaced 3 times!! During the first year, not a month went by without having to have a technician out to fix something. We had purchased a service plan from them so most the costs of most repairs have been covered...but the aggravation of having to deal with the system leaking and the A/C going out all the time has been very stressful. The unit they installed is manufactured by Goodman...and it just is a lemon. When we contacted the owner of Air Rescue after the first year to see if the manufacturer would replace the unit, we got virtually no response. The most recent service we need was in October of 2012 to replace the evaporator coil yet again. After that repair, they did an inspection and told us we needed to have our ducts and zones "re-engineered" to get better air flow and prevent the coil going out again. I had assumed they would have done this as part of the installation. It also seemed odd that, after four years, this was the first time "re-enginneering" was suggested. We chose not to have them do this work. I will say that they have been good about getting service technicians out in a prompt fashion. But they often have to come out several times to diagnose and repair problems. We have been extremely unhappy with the product they installed, and their failure to respond to our concerns about the product itself being a lemon.
Description of Work: Prompt service, but terrible equipment.

Customer, I was waiting to respond to your post until we were able to try and get the issues with the system resolved for you. We have sent a senior technician out to diagnose the concern with the system and have found the root of the problem. When the unit was installed it's pressures are significantly higher then the older system you had and with the zoning system in the ducts, when some of them are closed the force from not being distributed evenly is causing too much pressure. Which over time will cause the coils to have leaks. We have offered to remove some of the zones at no charge even though we did not install or do any modifications to your duct system just to take care of the issues with good faith. You do not want any of them removed to correct the problem. We have informed you that if that is not done the problem will continue to happen so at this point our hands our tied. If you change your mind about this we will honor what we have offered for you to ensure the system has a long efficient lifespan. Thank you for allowing us the chance to properly diagnose this for you to attempt to correct.

The tech came to perform my 6 month check-up. I had a silver membership with their company and every six months there is a maintenance check. At the time there were no problems with the central unit but the tech said the capacitor was bad as well as the contactor on the compressor. I said the capacitor was still under warranty since the tech who installed it told me there was a 2 year warranty and it had already been replaced before but the new general manager was called and said there are no 2 year warranties just a one year so that I had to pay for yet another capacitor. The tech said the last repair on the unit was not done properly, his company did it, and that the contactor was bad as well. The total for that unit was $435 minus the $100 credit I had with the company so I spent $335. I kept the used parts and had them checked out by an aerospace engineer with proper test equipment and the capacitor was well within spec and the contactor is still usable so he is keeping them for future use. Every time the techs from this company come to do a maintenance inspection they use high pressure sales and as a result of this last unneeded sale I cancelled both of my memberships with this company. When I got my credit card statement they had still charged me for one of the monthly fees even though they said they received my cancellation email and I am supposed to receive a credit on my next statement. Not only that they had double charged me the $335 and had to credit me for one of those charges. I will never use this company again. I contacted their new general manager Steve Cox but have as yet received no response from him about my concerns. both this time and in the past.

We are members of the special program that Air Rescue has. We pay a monthly due (I think it's $12.99 or so), and as part of the program we get free checkups on our a/c system twice year, and discounts on any parts/labor needed to fix things. When we first moved into our house, we had a/c problems. The previous owners had left an Air Rescue sticker on the a/c unit, so we called them for help. They fixed up our a/c (and added some enhancements, like the biocide.. that stuff is awesome!) and we didn't see them again until this most recent check-up. All in all, our experience with them has been great. The service guys really know a lot and are always on time (actually, one of them came over on his day off to help us - that was nice and unexpected). During the last check-up, he showed us what was wrong before just going ahead with the work. And he wasn't blowing smoke... you could see CLEARLY that the capacitor was completely rusted. Or that the terminals on the other part were all messed up. It's nice to have someone show you what is wrong and explain why it could cause an issue.
Description of Work: - Semi-annual a/c check up - replace capacitor - replace rusted metal terminals (I'm not sure what the name of the part is called, I just know where it is and what it looks like)

Member, We apologize that the service we did for you took longer than we originally expected. Unfortunately we did not anticipate that a major part would need to be replaced. It was an in warranty part so there was no charge for that, but that part is very time consuming and does take a few hours to change it out. The other parts that were replaced only took up a small amount of the time that the technician was there working on the system. We hope the unit is working great for you and if you have any concerns with the unit please let us know. Thank you.

I have used their service for many years and have been happy with their performance. Techs are trained to make recommendations for additional services, but it is up to the homeowner to realize when it is just a pitch or is really needed. Job number 414756, technician JFT.
Description of Work: Silver club member with tune up service twice a year. Cleaned and inspected indoor & outdoor handlers. Made sure unit is ready for winter. Found drain line was plugged and worked until it was cleared. Recommended larger drain line to be installed to prevent further blockages.

Everything worked great and I was extremely impressed with the level of service and courtesy of the technician. It was an easy call in this situation, but I still greatly appreciated coming out late at night to help resolve the issue and ensure we had air conditioning. I would highly recommend Air Rescue to anyone who has issues with their air conditioning.
Description of Work: I had went to install a new thermostat and after doing so noticed there was no power to the thermostat and no air conditioning. This happened at 9pm at night. I called Air Rescue because of their 24/7 service and a technician was at my home in about an hour. He knew immediately what the issue was (a blown fuse in the air handler), replaced it and then helped guide me as I re-installed the new thermostat. - Job # 413551

On 10/11/12 Jamil Perry came out with all parts needed to finally get this ac unit running right. He replaced blower motor and wheel, also fan motor and fan blade, die injection for leaks and approx 3lbs of Freon. When he replaced piston he found that a .095 was put in by Brian back in April. The right one was supposed to be .080 to .082 he even called to verify that he had the right one. .095 pours Freon in and .082 shoots it in like a nozzle on a water hose, the way it supposed to. Got everything put back together, house was 84 degrees, we turned on the ac and the house was cooled down to 78 degrees in 14 minutes. .Jamil was talking his smack about how good he was. He isn't lying. The man only has 5 yrs experience and knows more than the other techs that came out here. I recommend Air Rescue for your service but only if you ask for JAMIL PERRY and HEATHER (SUPERVISOR) didn't catch her last name but she is awesome as well, AIR RESCUE went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care. I was self-employed for several years , i know what it?s like to make sure the customer is taken care. Oh, when we were cleaning up, we found the right piston on the ground, Brian threw in another one just to get done, also communication between the girls in the office and techs and customer seems to have improved. Thanks to JAMIL and HEATHER, my wife and I are now very happy, it was nice to come back from GA. and the house wasn't 94 degrees. Thanks AIR RESCUE.
Description of Work: Air Rescue finally decided to fix my ac unit correctly. On 10/09/12 they sent a tech out by the name of Jamil Perry; he explained everything that was wrong. First thing he noticed was that the blower motor was super-hot and not running to full rpm and not cooling the house, he also believed that the piston in the compressor might be the wrong size and not regulating Freon properly. He also noticed that fan blades were bent and motor wasn’t running good and pulling air from the house like it should. I verified this with a friend of mine that does ac work and he backed him up. He also told me to check my duct work to make sure it hadn't collapsed, it didn't. Spoke with a young lady by the name of Heather; she assured me everything would be taken care of. job# 411745

Description of Work: Routine service call...cost me nothing.. Was thinking it would be a "gimmick" to tell me my "knuten valve " needed replacing or something. Not so.
