Hugh Keith was very plesant to deal with, offered me a short-term patch job and a long-term roof replacement option and had a very competitive price. Once they started the work was done in about a day and a half at the estimated price. They took lots of pictures to show me what they did, which will be useful if I even sell the house down the road! A pleasure to deal with!

Great! Mr Keith is extremely diligent in his preparation and completion of the work. He took time to explain what the problems were and offered several solutions to fix our leaky roof. The work was completed quickly and very efficiently and he showed us pictures throughout the day with before / after progress so we could see exactly what was going on. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone who needed work done on their roof.

Mr. Keith and his crew are responsive, professional and they stand by their work. They are willing to come out and take a look when we have questions and they respond to calls on the weekend. Very happy we went with them. They recently came out again to check on their work. The services they performed for us were a couple years ago.
Description of Work: Keith Roofing installed a skylight and resurfaced our roof on our Capitol Hill row house and have provided responsive service on their work ever since. They also patched a hole to prevent animals from getting in.

We received an estimate for the porch roof work in the fall, but delayed doing anything until this month. Nonetheless, Hugh Keith stood by his estimate once he confirmed that the roof hadn't experienced any new issues. After confirming the estimate, Hugh had his team there a day or two later to do the work. He took pictures throughout the project to document the progress and show us exactly what was done. The roof looks great and, better yet, performs like it should. It has only been a couple of weeks since the work was done, but I feel it was money well spent.

It was excellent. It only took 72 hours for them to inspect the problem and then fix it. They went above and beyond and fixed other potential areas in the roof that might leak in the future and fixed those as well. They took pictures of the problems they found and emailed them to me while I was at the office so I knew exactly what work was being done. They were awesome, and the price was also very good.

We can't say enough good things about our experience. Right from the get-go they were friendly and responsive on the phone. They sent a team over, and even took pictures which they gave us copies of on the spot so we could see what the issues were and exactly what they intended to do. This was very helpful as we do not have access to our roof so would have just had to take their word for it otherwise. They left a proposal with us right on the spot, so no need to wait several days to hear back from them. Once we accepted their proposal, they came and did the work THE NEXT DAY. Amazing! They showed up on time both times they came to our house, completed the work in a timely manner, and remained professional throughout the process. Again, point to the fact they did some extra work and didn't charge more for it. Their prices were completely reasonable compared to other estimates we received. This is one of the best contractor experiences we've ever had!
Description of Work: We had some minor leakage from the roof into the ceiling and window panes on the extension of our house. Keith's team came out and took a look, letting us know our flashing had been poorly installed and was the cause of the water damage. They came over and redid pretty much all of our flashing, not just in the damaged area. They also resealed the rubber protective coating in a number of places they felt needed it. Once they started working, they found some other areas to patch and did so at no additional cost, which we greatly appreciate!

Did an outstanding job in cold conditions. Was prompt - actually a little ahead of all scheduled meeting times. Mr. Keith and his workers were very neat and courteous. Work required raising rooftop air conditioner and resurfacing roof underneath it. Picked up every scrap. Kept me posted on progress of work. Documented work with a series of pictures so I did not have to climb on roof to check everything out. Finished on schedule.

Our roof had been leaking for quite awhile and after several "fixes" from other companies, it became obvious it was time for a new roof. Keith Roofing was one of three quotes we received and the price was very competitive - not quite the lowest, but very close. From my initial call to my last, Mr. Keith was always reachable and willing to do whatever he could to answer my (many) questions and make the customer happy. He even stopped by to do the estimate while I was at work (upon my approval), taking detailed photos showing the damage, which was great because it saved me time. He gave me several roofing options, working with me to select the best one for our needs. Once I pulled the permit, they were able to schedule us a few days later. The team was on time, courteous and worked very hard. They left me photo updates of the work they did on Day 1. And then, on the final day of installation, they were almost there until sundown making sure every detail was right. I hope I don't have to see them again for awhile - since that'd mean a roof leak or something - but if I needed anything done roof related, I'd definitely hire them again!!!

All went well. I got bids from 5 companies and went with Keith Roofing for a variety of reasons. I'm glad I did. They were terrific from start to finish.

Response from Keith Roofing
We were very surprised to see this members report,we had not received any calls from this member to let us know they were unhappy with any of the work performed. We try to make sure all our customers are completely satisfied. We our sorry to say this member was very difficult to work with. They had originally called us about an issue with major leaking on there main flat roof and also leaking on the very front of there home. After setting up a time to come by and provide an estimate we inspected the roof, took a number of photos and explained what needed to be done to the owner.First of all the major leaking on the main flat roof was due to a number of repairs that where needed on the main flat roof so we had figured up an estimate for that. But the leaking on the front of the home was a separate issue,Along with the flat roof there was a complete different roof located on the front of the home which was an old tile roof and built in box gutters and drains that went all along the front of the house. We had taken photos of the issues with this front roof and went over them with the owner. There where large sections of tiles that where loose and falling off and areas where tiles where missing and wood was exposed and rotting.Because of the condition of the front tile roof it would need to be completely replaced. So we figured up an estimate to replace the front roof as well. The owner said they wanted to move forward with the repair of the major leaking on the flat roof but wanted to hold off on replacing the front tile roof.So we scheduled and completed the work on the flat roof, and everything was fine until some time later we received a call about some leaking at the home, and we came out that same day when we received the call. After coming out and inspecting the inside where it was leaking we saw that now it was leaking in a new area of the flat roof then had been leaking before and also the owner showed us the leaking on the front of the roof. we explained that the leaking on the front of the roof was due to the old tile roof that we had not worked on,but after seeing the leaking on the flat roof area of the home we inspected the roof and found the leaking was right under where the air condition housing was on the roof,we didn't see any issues on the roof and mentioned that because it was right where the a/c was they should have it checked out by an a/c person and they said they would. Then a few weeks later they had called us again about the leaking on the front of the home and also said the leak on the flat area began to get worse. We came out again to there home and found the leaking was located on the very front of the home which we explained again was located on the old tile roof we had not worked on,and Also was leaking in the same area under the a/c.We then asked if they had contacted there a/c person like we had recommended before because we thought that That may have been the problem, but they said they hadn't and seemed angry at us that they where experiencing this leaking on there flat roof and front tile roof.We then tried to help them understand that we had never worked on there front tile roof we made them aware that there where large holes on there front tile roof and it needed to be replaced, also we didn't think there was a problem with there flat roof we thought that maybe an a/c connection was leaking water into there home. They seemed upset and we where sorry that they felt that way but the problems they were having where issues we hadn't worked on.After that we called them back a couple weeks later just to see how things where going and to see if they called there a/c person, and they said they did and found out we were exactly right there leaking wasn't do to there flat roof but there a/c had sprung a leak and caused damage on the inside of the house. They then said they wanted to move forward with the estimate to replace the front tile roof and repair the damaged wood where the leaking was occurring on the front of the home where a number of areas had water leaking in.We then scheduled and completed that work. After it was completed some time had past without any issues then in the fall of the year they called us and reported some leaking on the front of the home ,we came out that same day to inspect it,and we found there front gutters had got completely blocked with fall leaves and also there downspout as well.We then as a favor at no charge had our men clean out the gutters and downspouts,we also brought the owner outside to show them what had happened but they again got angry at us and didn't seem to want to talk, they felt that they shouldn't need to worry about cleaning gutters now that we had installed the new roof.We tried to explain that just because we had installed a new tile roof we had not replaced there front downspouts and even if they did they would still need to be routinely maintained and cleaned especially in the fall of the year when all the leaves had fallen. When there gutters had been blocked like that the water from the gutters would just back up into the house,we explained all this very politely but still this member just got angry at us and just walked away from us.We completed cleaning out the gutters and downspouts, and there home hasn't leaked since as far as we know.We feel we really tried to go out of our way for this member as we try and do for all our customers,I just feel that from the very beginning this member was upset with us over things that were not our fault. We our going to try and contact this member to see if there is anything else we can do to make them satisfied, but we feel that we did them a good job and the problems that occurred afterward where unfournate but had nothing to do with our work that we performed.

The price was on the high side, but not much higher than other bids I received. The work was done promptly and thoroughly, as far as I can tell. Hugh Keith, Jr., was professional and friendly and provided close supervision of the two men up on the roof. We shall see how things go when we next have a heavy rain. Hugh provided photographs of the places on the roof that appeared to need repair, as well as photos during the work showing the rotten wood that needed to be replaced, and of the completed work. It's good to have a complete photographic record of the work accomplished.
Description of Work: The house has both a shingled gable roof and a relatively flat metal roof. During recent heavy rains, a serious lead developed and damaged a portion of the second floor ceiling. The repair consisted of covering the entire metal roof with bituminous rubber material, replacing faulty vent pipe collars, checked entire roof for damaged shingles, removing damaged shingles and replacing rotten wood underneath, applying new shingles over new wood, and resealing skylights. The work is guaranteed prevent future leaks.

Everything went great. Hugh and his team were on time and finished in a day and a half using multiple crews to tacked the different roofs. Despite rain on Thursday, they made progress Thursday morning before the rain and finished everything else on Friday. Hugh took lots of pictures at the estimate stage and during the repairs so we saw exactly what and where the problems were and how they fixed them. Most importantly, Hugh gave a reasonable explanation why we did NOT need a total roof replacement, which one of his competitors -- a company we had used before -- said we needed. We greatly appreciated his more reasonable and rational estimate. We have not moved in yet, so we have not "tested" the roof, but so far so good.
Description of Work: Hugh and his team took on a fairly complex roofing project on our Chevy Chase-DC house, which we just bought and have not yet moved into. He replaced the original and leaking flat roof over two rooms and replaced missing shingles on the pitched roof. He also went down to the sheathing (is that the right word?), down to the wooden room under the shingles in spots and replaced some rotten wood, removing a wasp nest and some birds nests in the process.

I cannot say enough good about Hugh and Keith Roofing. He was the first roofer I got an estimate from and none of the others could compare to his price and amount of service. He was entirely honest throughout the process, walked us through every detail of what he was going to do and listened to our needs/ questions (as silly as some of them may have been). Hugh is excellent about staying in touch about details throughout the process, calling/ emailing details throughout, as well as sending detailed photos of the entire process afterward. For us, we had some rain get in the way of original plans, but when we had an opening of a day, Keith Roofing worked quickly to get then entire job done (removal and replacement) in one day. We signed the original agreement and literally, 5 days later we had a brand new roof. As we're in the process of doing other renovations, Hugh also offered to come back, free of charge, to help flash any new vents we have installed on the roof, to make sure it lasts as long as the roof. Highly, highly recommend Keith Roofing.

This is an update to my previous review. Mr. Keith is fantastic, and I can't recommend his company enough. I recently had solar panels installed on the roof that he replaced for me several months ago. During the process, I identified a small issue with drainage. I called Mr. Keith, and he personally came by to check out and fix the problem. While he was there, he noticed some issues that had been caused by the solar installation and, on is own initiative, fixed those (free of charge), as well. Mr. Keith is far and away the most professional, conscientious and just plain out nice service provider I've worked with (and I've worked with a lot of them). A+ across the board!

Keith roofing was professional and personable from the first meeting. We believed we needed to replace our entire roof as we had no idea the age of the roof and had multiple leaks. We had already received 3 quotes for a new roof and received estimates between $9000 to $15000 dollars. We decided to call Keith roofing for one more quote. We were very happy with the company and their original quote BUT we were even more pleased to find out that Keith roofing was honest enough to tell us that we really don't need a new roof! No other company was honest enough to tell us we didn't need a new roof we just needed new flashing. And sure enough 4 months out and several summer rain storms later, we are still leak free! Subsequently, my husband has called Keith roofing for advice on other projects we are doing and they have been very helpful with advice, free of charge! We will definitely be calling Keith roofing for our next project.

I have nothing but praise for this company and wish I had written this sooner! After a major winter storm a few years ago, I experienced leaks during the spring rains. I used Angie's list to find companies to give me some estimates. I called three different roofers all of whom proclaimed that I needed a new roof and I received quotes ranging from $11K - $21K. I was honest with all the roofers letting them know that I was getting multiple quotes and would pick the best value for dollar (not necessarily the lowest price). One roofer said that the old roof could stay, two told me that the old roof needed to go. One roofer even told me that I would probably need to replace some rafters due to the age of the house and that their price would increase if that was the case. I was confused because my neighbor who went up on my roof kept telling me that there was nothing wrong with my roof. Then I called Keith's Roofing. Mr. Keith came by and confirmed what my neighbor had been telling me...THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY ROOF, other than that it needed to be resealed and that some slate tiles on the front needed to be replaced. The rafters were fine! He stated that they had a very cost effective product to replace the tiles and that they could easily repair the the roof...their quote? $3500!!!! When I asked why the other roofers told me that I needed a new roof, his response was simple, they were not being honest with me! Mr. Keith gave me a date and much to my surprise, showed up a few days earlier because they had finished a job and were in the neighborhood and figured they could complete my job before the rains were to come later that afternoon. A year later I had another roofing issue on the addition to my house when a storm ripped the roof off and folded it over on itself (this was on a Friday). I immediately called Keith's roofing that evening when I got home and saw the damage. They showed up Saturday morning, put the old roof back in place for free and gave me a quote to replace it (he wanted to make certain it was in place so that it wouldn't leak!) I didn't have the money in place right away and then time just slipped by when I realized months later, holy crap hurricane season is upon me and I called them back. I told them that I had their original quote which they honored. Once again , they came earlier than projected and replaced the roof on the addition. Bottom line: if you live in DC and have a flat roof, these are you guys. They are not only honest, but honorable. It's a family owned business and they take great pride in providing high quality service and good prices and I will only use this company for any roofing problems I have. I have already recommended them to other people in my neighborhood and to my friends and family. They not only saved me THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS, they explained everything to me, provided me with before and after photos and most importantly, were willing to be helpful when I really needed someone to be honest with me on one of the largest and expensive repair jobs most homeowners face. Thank you.

He noticed some other issues on my roof, we needed to replace some spots where my slate had rotted and fix the flashing on top of the roof that was leading to some leaks. He was very concerned that everything was fixed correctly. They noticed some rot that I didn’t even know about that they took care of. They were very, very thorough. He took pictures so he could show me all the problems and then took pictures of what they had done to make sure I knew I was getting what I paid for. They are coming back to do some painting and check on the gutters to make sure they are maintaining.
Description of Work: Originally I had them come out to repair gutters and snow guards on my Townhouse.
Keith Roofing did a fantastic job! The entire process went extremely well. My parent's house had a bad leak on the roof and needed urgent repairs before additional storms hit the DC area. I received 4 estimates from highly regarded Angie's List roofing companies and let my parents decide which company to select. My parents selected Keith Roofing because they felt comfortable with Mr. Keith and liked the detailed explanation attached to each picture. In addition, Keith Roofing was able to start the project sooner than the rest of the companies. I notified Keith Roofing of their selection and signed the contract on Friday, 6/21. Mr. Keith said he would be able to start the project on Monday or Tuesday of the following week. Mr. Keith called back on the same day (6/21) to let me know that they could start the project at 9:00am on Monday, 6/24. With a team of 5, Keith Roofing started the project at 9am and was finished by 10:30 am. My parents are very pleased with Keith Roofing. I will definitely use Keith Roofing in the future at my house in NE DC.

Two years ago we decided to replace a skylight in our newly renovated flat roof row house. The original skylight was the old fashioned type with louvered ventilation and a pull chain "window" to the house. During bad thunderstorms or windy, wet weather, precipitation and dirt would blow through the louvers, wet the house, and skylight recess. Our first replacement skylight was with a vendor previously reviewed on this site. They replaced the skylight with a flat, turn to open skylight. Within 2 months, the skylight began to leak again, but through the drywall and around the edges. We tried to contact the vendor multiple times to have the skylight repaired, but once installed, they never called us back again. We finally decided to use Angie's List for a vendor to find out what was wrong with the skylight. Although scheduling was a bit hard because of both my and their conflicting schedules, we were eventually able to arrange an estimate. Mr. Keith arrived and took pictures of the roof where we found out that the prior vendor had used BATHROOM CAULKING to seal the flashing around the roof. Needless to say, I was furious. While this type of caulking should never have been used to seal the flashing around the skylight, the roof faces the southern sun all day with no shade. This means it is just a matter of days before the caulking dries out and begins to leak again. In addition, we found that the prior vendor had installed a FLAT skylight that opens on a FLAT roof. This means that the water will continue to gather on the glass and promote leaking as well. Mr. Keith took pictures and recommended that we go back to the vendor who sold us the original skylight and have them repair and replace the flashing, while also putting in a skylight designed for a flat roof. He said it would be a shame to have to spend the money again to have it all replaced. I did contact the prior vendor, but again, no response. I called Mr. Keith back a week later and he showed up the next day to replace the skylight with the correct type, repair all of the flashing on the roof, and guarantee the work. He gave us pictures afterwards and we have not had a single leak. It should also be noted that the day the skylight installation was scheduled, the government provided liberal leave to its employees because of impending thunderstorms and inclement weather. Keith Roofing showed up, worked through the weather, and made sure we had a dry house. I can't say enough about what a great job these guys did and how honest they were in their assessment. I definitely recommend them--and we have been through 3 storms now with NO leaking! :-)
Description of Work: Provided pictures of the roof, the prior skylight and flashing work, replaced the skylight, repaired all improper flashing on the skylight and roof ventilation.

He was great, timely and very responsive. He knew his budget and easy to deal with. He came over and supervised the job. He was knowledgeable as well. He wasn’t the cheapest in terms of price but it was appropriate for the job.
Description of Work: I used Keith Roofing to do my roof.

Great experience end to end on the job. We decided on a bit of a whim based on some neighbors advice to have our roof coated white before the summer starts for real in DC (it's a ~12 year old black rubber surface that soaks up the heat like crazy and made the third floor a lot hotter) . I found Keith's based on Angie's List reviews and that turned out to be a great choice -- not only did they beat the prices that our neighbors paid through other folks for similar work but they were extremely quick to both schedule the estimate appointment and the actual work. They took "before" pictures during the estimate and printed them on a portable photo printer in his truck which I thought was a nice touch. Since the job was fairly small they even managed to slip us in right away for the next day after I called back to confirm (they had another job finish faster than expected so we definitely lucked out on timing). Showed up with their crew to start the work right at 8:30am as promised, took pictures while the work was in progress and completed. Couldn't ask for more (and a side note I highly recommend the white roof coating if you're in DC and have a hot top floor problem, we were wondering if we'd be able to tell the difference easily but it was very obvious at least in our case. Top floor has been a LOT cooler, almost the same temp now as the 2nd floor when we come home from work on a hot day whereas the day before it was done it was way hotter. Days had similar amounts of sun and daytime highs)
Description of Work: Sealed various seams and patched minor hole in flat membrane roof. Installed new metal edge on front of roof to prevent water runoff. Applied white roof coating to entire roof to seal and reflect heat.

They installed a new roof on my house in 2010 and this spring returned, per my request, to follow up on the roof and gutters. They were very prompt, returned my call immediately, and came to my house same day that I called. They also did come back a couple weeks later and fixed my gutter so the gravity flow went in the right direction. I have no more problems with my gutter overtopping because it's pooling at the wrong end. Excellent customer service.
Description of Work: following up on a previous new roof install they did in 2010.
