they were flexible with my schedule; responsive to my phone calls; came when they said they would; had a large crew so they completed the work quickly; work was done well; area was cleaned up; and they held their price even though they found more rot then they expected. I offered to pay for the extra work, but Hugh Keith said they they priced the job, and he would honor the price. All in all a very good experience. I recommend them highly.
Description of Work: They removed two (2) layers of roofing and an old sky-light from a flat-roofed rowhouse, and applied a new roof -replaced rotted decking, layer of insulation, base layer and top layer, and a new skylight.

I had Keith Roofing come out to give an estimate because we thought the skylight was leaking. They took a look and showed us a picture where they drew red lines to show where the glass was cracked. They recommended we replace the entire skylight at a cost of $2300. They also pointed out a few vents that weren't sealed properly. We asked to go up on the roof to see and when we got up there, there was zero evidence of cracked glass or anything wrong with the skylight. We have since learned that the leaking is coming from the unsealed vents, not the skylight and the cost of that repair is about $2000 less than having to replace the whole skylight. Whether it was an honest mis-diagnosis or not, that's a big difference in the cost and source of the problem. Always get multiple estimates!

Response from Keith Roofing
As this member said we did not do any work for them we only provided them with a free estimate.I must say I am surprised by this members report, they called our office and asked for an estimate for there leaking skylight. We then set a time and later met with them and checked out there entire roof and took a number of pictures for them. The leak was coming in right by there skylight and when we checked the roof we found a number of issues.First of all they had purchased this home less then a year ago,and it appeared probably a little more then a year ago some new vents where cut into the roof and where were not flashed at all they were just patched with cement and cement being a temporary patch was drying out and cracking open, also there were some other areas on the roof that could use some repairs. The leak was coming in right by the skylight and after inspecting the skylight it appeared the gasket were the glass and frame of the skylight join was pulling away a little and many times that causes leaking. After giving the owners the pictures they asked to come up on the roof and inspect it themselves which we did and showed them what was going on with the roof, they were surprised to see the vents done that way and mentioned they had other problems come up with there new home and had the salers fix it for them. Before we ever gave them an estimate we advised them to try and check with the salers again and see if this was under there warranty because the vents looked like they were cut recently and the skylight might be covered as well,so rather then them pay us to fix it maby there warranty would cover it.They said they would try and do that but in the mean time wanted an estimate to correct all the problems we found. We figured up around $2300 to fix all the issues on the roof the vents, flashing work, repairs to other areas on the roof, and to replace the skylight.I mentioned to them they could try and seal the skylight with a sealent but usually when the weather stripping is open like that they have to be replaced, they then asked how much it would be just to replace the skylight and we had figured it up a little under 800$ to replace the skylight so we gave them that price as well. But again we recommended they try to check with the warranty on there home first before doing any thing. Now they posted this response that they just sealed around the vents with more cement for a lesser price, but that's what the vents were sealed with to begin with and had cracked open with in no time.Unfornately people post a response like this without waiting to see that what they did actually worked before saying what we recommended was the wrong route to try.I am sorry this member was not happy with our free estimate but I think what we recommended was accurate and by reading all our other reports youll see we always go above and beyond for our potential customers and treat them honest and fair.

I do sales for living. I have to admit Hugh is best salesman ever. The pricing was the best of the four quotes. The staff putting on the roof was professional. I would recommend Keith Roofing for any roofing needs.

We've had a leak in the roof over the front of the house for a year or so that finally got so bad rain water was running down the interior wall. I emailed Keith Roofing and they called back that day to schedule an estimate. I met with Hugh Keith, the owner's son, and he couldn't have been more polite, responsive and professional. The quote they gave me was about $3,000 less than another (high-end) roofer that had estimated the job. While Mr. Keith was preparing the estimate, he noticed a problem with the roof over the porch and said it wouldn't take much to fix it and they'd do it for no extra cost. I thought that was quite nice. One of the really great things they do is take pictures of the roof (because who's going to get out on their roof?!) so he could show me where the problems were. He printed the photos in his truck -- great technology. The work was scheduled for a few days after the estimate, and Mr. Keith said it could take 2 days, but they finished in one. On the day of the work, Mr. Keith came with his crew, then returned later to look over the job when his crew had finished the work the same day. Mr. Keith took more photos to show me they work that had been done -- again, a very nice and helpful touch. They discovered that the problem in the porch roof was more involved than they had originally thought, but still provided that work for free! Our new roof looks great and is holding up under recent deluges of rain. I highly recommend Keith Roofing.

We could not be happier with this provider! They were professional on the phone and set an appointment for a few days after we called, it was a small leak so we told them to put us on the non-urgent list especially since we noticed the leak after the big storm that came through DC. Hugh Keith showed up exactly on time and was very appreciative of the business and a chance to bid on our job. Mr. Keith said he would go up to the roof and take some pictures to show us where the problem(s) were and then we would have a chance to talk about the repairs/bid. After spending some time on the roof he came down with the promised pictures and said there were two problems, both caused by our recent removal of two old TV antennas. Mr. Keith said he could seal up both holes in a very short time and said he would do it for FREE! He went back up on the roof and sealed both holes and would not take a dime! Now that is customer service, he said the roofer (hired by the person I purchased the house from 12 months ago) should never have left those holes open and said it was his pleasure to seal them up. Amazing. If he had been a dishonest man he could have charged us any amount after showing us the pictures, you could see the holes and the remnants of the antenna cable. We are new to DC and we weren't sure who to call when we noticed the leak, now we know exactly who to call on any repairs.

I was very satisfied with Keith roofing and plan to use them again in 5-7 years when my rubber roof will need to be re-coated again. It took a couple of weeks to get an estimate from Keith roofing...though it wasn't a huge deal to wait, given I wasn't in a rush for the work to be done on my roof, and I knew they were backed up dealing w/ storms from earlier in the summer. On the day of the estimate, I went up on the roof with Mr. Keith so he could show me the various things he intended to fix. I very much appreciated this, and it gave me a good understanding of where the shortcomings were and what needed repair. Once I agreed to the estimate, they were able to start the work within a day or 2, and they finished it in one day. I wasn't at the house the day of the work, so he left a stack of pictures behind showing the work performed (very much appreciated!). Mr. Keith called me when the work was done to let me know, and to say that the work went as planned and there weren't any additional issues identified. He also offered to swing back by the house when convenient for me so that he could take me up on the roof to show me the finished product. It was about a week later that we met up for the walk through...again, very much appreciated that he took the time to show firsthand exactly what they did. I'm very satisfied with the end result!

We noticed water damage on the ceiling in the top floor of our house & called Kieth roofing to come in for an estimate. I wrote the company an email on Labor Day, Mr Keith called me Tuesday morning and the company came out to take a look Wednesday AM. VERY prompt and very willing to work with my nutty schedule. They quickly identified the problem and took & printed photos so we could see what the issues were. In this case a furnace installation from 9 months earlier had been done poorly and caused multiple holes and points where water could enter. Mr Keith told me they could do the work and were willing, but that if it were his house he'd contact the furnace company that caused the damage (especially since it was just 9 months ago) to see if the furnace company would be willing to remedy their errors at no cost (rightly so). Kieth roofing could have easily given me a $3-5K quote to fix all the damage, but instead gave me stellar, honest advice at absolutely no cost, and gave me the photographs so I could send them to my furnace company. Even though they didn't charge me, I still see what they did as performing a service, especially since I've had other types of contractors (plumbers, for instance) charge me just to diagnose the problem. On top of it all, the Kieth roofing family were all just lovely people to work with. Hopefully I won't have to call them again for this particular issue, but if any future roof issue comes up they will absolutely be the company I call. Thank you Kieth Roofing!
Description of Work: Diagnosed the sources of a roof leak, took pictures of the problem to show us what was going on and provided us with excellent, honest advice regarding how best to proceed.

I received an almost immediate call back from Hugh Keith who arranged to come to my house for an estimate within a day or two. He was polite and professional, and showed up a little early (after calling to confirm that would be ok). He surveyed the situation on my roof, took photos, and thoroughly walked me through the problem and his suggestion to address it. I had also asked him to take a look at my skylight which he said was in relatively good shape. He did mention replacement options to consider but there was no hard sell. The insulation around my HVAC unit (on the roof) had cracked and flashing was missing or damaged. He also noticed that the previous owner had used the wrong kind of pipe collar when she renovated the master bathroom. Mr. Keith recommended wrapping the HVAC air ducts with modified bitumen rubber and installing rubber flashing around the airvents of the HVAC unit (and rectifying the pipe collar issue). The estimate (after the Angie's List discount) was $3253.30. I called back after speaking with insurance agent and Mr. Keith answered my questions and encouraged me to call back if I had any more. I received a second estimate from Robert J. Martin at National Roofing that included the same work with the same material (modified bituman rubber) for approximately half the price, so I signed a contracted with him.
Description of Work: I received an assessment of what was causing a leak and an estimate to address it plus another problem noticed by Hugh Keith.

We made the appointment for them to come on Wednesday - my brother was home, as I was unable to take off work. They were ontime (again!). They took a ton of pictures and called me to let me know how it went and explain what they did. They even annotated the pictures so I would understand what I was looking at and how they fixed it! Not only did they fix everything they said they would, but while up there, they found an additional problem! They saw there was a problem where brick had fallen away (or not been put there at all) and you could see wood and insulation. They fixed this too and never asked for additional money! Keith Roofing was beyond expectation. Not only would I use them again, but would refer them to anyone who needs a roofer. Before hiring I read all the different reviews, including the disputes, I believe those are people who will never be happy! I am beyond happy with the job that was done. I can't wait for it to rain and see the fantastic job that these guys did! Thanks Keith Roofing!!!
Description of Work: Had some leaking in the basement apartment that was coming from up-top somewhere. Thought maybe it was leaking at the flashing on the roof or gutter wasn't attached right - hard to tell if you aren't up there. So I called Keith Roofing since their reviews were so high! They made an appointment for the next day to take a look. They were on time and the estimate was good. They took pictures and did a great job of explaining the work they would do. They also found a couple of other spots, that while not troublesome now, might become so in the future. So I they were hired!!!

I had quite a bitt of roof leakage from a recent storm. I found Keith Roofing on Angie's List and they were well rated and in the District. I wanted to have my roof repaired before more storms came. They were working in the area and came that day to generate an estimate, as well as take pictures and video to help illustrate the problems with the roof. They came 2 days later and did a very thorough job from what I can see. They also found problems that weren't directly related to the leakage, but that were potentially serious problems down the road. Mr. Keith kept me posted as the work progressed and followed-up after. He also took time to speak with the insurance adjuster. I did not generate estimates due to time constraints so can't offer an opinion in terms of costs. But for all of the other ratings criteria I highly recommend Keith Roofing and would use again.

Had a leak and called Keith Roofing the next morning. Spoke with Hugh, who was extremely accommodating and got his son out to take a look a few hours later. Keith Jr. was extremely professional, diagnosed the problem quickly, and when I told him a competitor's bid, he told me it was a good deal and to take it. Extremely responsive, honest and professional. Highly recommend!

Keith Roofing replaced a large portion of my roof that was damaged in a wind storm approximately 8 months ago. Currently, the home is being rented by tenants. They recently serviced a minor leak that occurred after a storm we had a few weeks ago. They were professional, timely, dealt with my tenants directly, kept me informed, and did not change a dime. They do fantastic work and stand behind it. They have my highest recommendation!
Description of Work: Repair of minor leak as follow-on service to larger roofing repair made several months ago. June 2013 UPDATE: Keith Roofing has returned to the property again to investigate new source of leaks. They found leaks around skylight and fixed them at no cost. Can't say enough good about the Keith Roofing team. When that skylight does need replacing, Keith Roofing will be the first folks I'll call.

They did the work within about two days of our contacting them, completed it in one day, and did not leave the slightest trace of having been there, either on the roof or elsewhere on the property. The owner of the company and his son supervised the work, explained what they were going to do, documented their work with photographs, were infallibly polite, and showed us afterward what they had done. Their price was consistent, pro rata, with another estimate we received to replace the entire roof. We would certainly use them again.
Description of Work: We suffered repeated leaking from the rear portion of a more-or-less flat room, slightly sloped front to back. Keith Roofing tore off the top layer of the rear 15 feet of the old roof, replaced most of the underlying wood and insulation board, re-covered it with granulated heavy rubber, and sealed it better than it had been done originally. They also repaired and patched selected spots elsewhere on the roof where previous repairs had been poorly sealed and removed all debris and materials.

Nothing will dissuade me from using a particular service provider than one who over-dramatizes the problem. If they gave me an assessment that was not full of obvious hyperbole, I may have considered them. Well, until I saw the price, which was 20% higher than the others. I do however commend them on their punctuality and follow through when making the appointment.

Response from Keith Roofing
We just wanted to post a response to this members report. We did not perform any work for this member we had only provided them with a free estimate. This member had contacted us for an estimate at there home they had recently purchased, they mentioned to us that they had a general home inspection and the inspector recommended that there flat roof be coated. So we made a time to meet with them and to inspect the roof ,after coming and inspecting the roof we took many photos and we asked this member if they where comfortable with ladders and if so would they come up on the roof with us so they could see the condition of the roof first hand. They said they would like to come up on the roof and go over everything with us first hand.So we both went up on the roof together and we pointed out a number of issues with the roof.First of all it was a very old rubber roof which was pulling away on the flashing walls in a number of places,in a number of areas on the back edge of the roof you could actually lift the rubber up it was all loose and pulling away and this member saw this first hand. Also the roof was busted open around the roofs chimney flashing and roof vents, also the roof surface was dryed out and cracking open all over the roof. After going over everything while on the roof we then both went down are ladder and then printed out the photos we had taken and provided them to the owner along with two estimates, one to do extensive repairs which would get him by for a while ,but if he planned on being in the house for more then 10 years he should possibly look into replacing the roof so we provided him with an estimate for that as well. Unfournately the roof was beyond just a coating, the roof was old and had a number of issues, after providing this member with the photos and two estimates he thanked us very much and commented how we were so much more thorough then other contractors he had talked to and appreciated the amount of time we spent with him explaining everything to him.So we were very surprised that he would post this response , as far as any over-dramatizing or hyperbole as they stated in there report we have no idea what they are referring to,we insisted that they come up on the roof with us if they were comfortable with that so they could see exactly what was going on with there roof.As you can see by are other reports we always try and go out of are way to keep all our customers and potential customers happy.I feel that may they just wanted to have there roof coated but Unfournately there roof was well beyond that, anything less then repairs then they would soon have trouble with the roof.

Amazing customer service and lovely work. I spoke with one of the owners himself after the close of business and he came out the next morning to help us solve our problem. They fit us in immediately. We were given pictures of before/during/after and they were extremely responsive the entire time. Some other small flaws were found and very generously repaired at no additional cost to us, though I did offer to pay for those items separately as well. When we had leaking a few weeks after the repair I received a call back on a Saturday and one of the owners there first thing Sunday morning, even though they don't work Sundays. They were apologetic and fixed it for us that morning, even though it wasn't even a roof related issue this time. Amazing. I am so thankful we chose this company.

The earthquake that hit DC in 2011 knocked my skylight out of its seating, because during the hurricane that followed I had a significant leak through the skylight into my bathroom. I contacted Keith and company for an estimate based on their reputation and word of mouth. They responded almost immediately, despite what must have been a huge backlog of work due to the hurricane. I got a personal visit from one of their representatives, who climbed up onto the roof, took pictures, and sent me a written report with an explanation of the damage that they found. The representative was then available to answer all of my questions in person. They were able to complete all of the required repairs in one day, while I was at work. They sent me before and after pictures of the work. After everything was complete, there was still a small leak in the skylight (which I found the next week). When I contacted the company, they stopped by immediately and performed the repair again, at no charge to me. They were very friendly during the entire process. I would highly recommend this company and would not hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: Repair roof damage caused by earthquake and hurricane: (1) replace chimney cap that had blown off, (2) seal up around leaking skylight, (3) remove old satellite dish and plug up holes, (4) re-seal flashing that had peeled off between roof and brickwork, (5) seal up around bathroom vent lines, and (6) install rubber patches in areas where holes had developed.

Since the roof had been replaced less than five years ago I felt that it was best to do some exploratory work in problem areas rather than redo the entire roof but wanted a professional opinion from an Angie's list A rated roofer. It may be that the whole roof might need to be replaced but I was able to contact the roofer who had replaced the roof - he is now operating under a different company name and I had not been able to find him but thanks to Google I did end up locating him - and he is coming within the next ten days to look at it and repair anything for no charge. This is not a negative report on Keith roofing but rather one that just questions whether or not his solution was the best one. UPDATE JUNE 22, 2012: ? This is a follow up to my previous report and to the response given to that report by Keith Roofing. I agree that there may have been a misunderstanding about what was to be done and it speaks to the great value of Angie's list that there is a civil way to resolve any disputes. As it stands now I am waiting for the roofer who did the earlier job to come next week to redo or fix what is wrong. As I said earlier it may be that we will require a complete new roof in most areas and will if necessary have other roofers come in and look it over. Keith Roofing might well be right but it will require another visit by them to more accurately determine those areas that have to be fixed.
Description of Work: The owner came by on the day and at the time agreed upon. His solution was tear off everything and replace it with a new roof and my position was that I would prefer to have some exploratory work done as there were areas that were most likely not a problem. He asked if I wanted him to go ahead and give an estimate in writing and I said yes but none was ever received. UPDATED JUNE 22, 2012: Roofing estimate visit.

We just wanted to post a response to this members report. No work was performed for this member we just provided them with a free estimate. This member contacted us about issues with leaks in there roof,we then made a appointment to come by there home and inspect there roof. After meeting with them they explained that they had a company install a foam roof some years back and soon after had leaking in the new roof the company had installed. After not being able to fix the foam roof this member had the same company come back and install a new rubber roof right on top of the foam roof, and now after 5 years that roof also was leaking. After we inspected the roof we could see the roof had many problems with the way it was put on.First of all it should not have been installed over top of the foam roof, and second of all the roof was all pulling away at the roofs flashing walls and around the roofs drains and a number of other issues, also there was alot of water that had leaked under the roof surface and was trapped under the roof. After looking at the roof we advised the owner to try and get the roofer who had installed the roof 5 years ago back to correct these problems because it should still be under warranty being only 5 years old.But they said they could not find them or get them on the phone they must have went out of business. So we explained that We could not try and repair this roof and try and correct a roof that was not installed correctly to begin with,we are licensed contractors who give a warranty on all are work and we could not confidently repair this roof and warranty it against leaks. We recommended the roof would need to be removed both the rubber roof and the foam roof that was mushy and holding water be removed as well.As far as this member not getting an estimate, there was some mis-understanding we would have gladly provided them with an estimate but after going over everything with them they informed us they were going to try a different route and try to get the original roofer back out to try and correct the roof free of charge,we agreed that would be the best thing to do after paying them to install the roof only 5 years ago.Thankfully as the member said in the report they were able to locate the original roofer and they will be coming back to fix the roof.We have called this member since they posted this report to explain the mis-understanding about them not getting an estimate,we thought they were going to just get the original roofer back out to try and repair the roof.

We solicited three bids for the job. Keith Roofing, while not the lowest bid, was the most responsive company, listened carefully to the issues we were having and thoroughly explained the solutions they recommended. They are also local. From start the finish, every member of the crew was polite and professional. The job was done quickly and competently. Eight months after the gutter was installed (in February 2012), we had a problem. Instead of the water running toward and down the drainpipe, it ran the other way and cascaded down into our neighbor's yard. We called Keith Roofing and explained the problem. They were very apologetic, agreed to come out and assess the problem and said that whatever it was they would take care of it promptly. And that is exactly what they did. They came out, made the assessment and agreed that the slope was incorrect (apparently getting the right slop can be a tricky business). They re-sloped the gutter on the spot and it has been working fine since. And they did not charge any service fee. Then in June 2012, we had another problem. The gutter appeared to have completely failed. The water was cascading directly down the back of the house rather than going down the drainpipe. When the rain cleared, we saw around 75 of what appeared to be holes in the bottom of the gutter and assumed that was the problem. We called Keith Roofing again and explained the problem. Once again, they said they would come out as soon as possible and assess the situation. They came the same day we called. It turned out we were wrong. What we saw were not holes, but just dirt. The gutter, despite being cleaned in February was completely filled with debris. It was the debris that caused the water to cascade down the house. There was nothing wrong with the gutter. We were upset that we had called for a problem of our own making, but Hugh Keith and his father, acted more like old friends than contractors. They cleaned out the gutter and thoroughly tested it to make sure the problem was solved. It worked as it should. We offered to pay them for their services since it was clearly our own failure, however, they said that customer service was one of their highest priorities and they were glad to do it. No charge. And they said, once again, whenever we have a problem, they will be more than happy to come out and make it right. Such sentiments are all too rare these days and are very much appreciated!
Description of Work: Flat roof - repair areas where needed, install rubber around flashings and AC ducts, coat entire roof with aluminum coating. Gutter - remove old gutter, install new metal drip edge and new rubber across edge of roof, install new gutter.

We were pleased throughout with Keith Roofing's professionalism and service. We identified the leak during the remants of the hurricane and they were quick to come out to provide the esimate. Unfortunately, we then had five days of epic rain, putting all their jobs on hold. They were very backed up afterwards, but remained very communicative on when they could schedule us. They completed all the work quickly and easily. The price was a little higher than other rough quotes I'd recieved, but it was well worth it for the overall quality of both the work and the experience overall.
Description of Work: A leak developed in the roof of a small addition to the house. Hugh Keith quickly found where a piece of flashing had come loose where the original brick wall met the new roof. He also noted that the crew who renovated the house before we bought it had incorrectly installed flashing in multiple places--which was consiistent with other expiriences in this house--and said we were likely to face similar problems in the future if they were not reinstalled. The crew came out, fixed the original leak and reinstalled the rest of the flashing in a day.

I called Keith Roofing in the middle of the week, and heard back the next day. Hugh Keith Jr. said that the company was very busy but that he would call me back early in the next week. Since I didn't need repairs urgently, that was fine. He called back as promised, we scheduled a site visit to my house, he arrived on the dot, and examined my roof. He took pictures, showed them to me, walked me through his process, and wrote up an estimate. I thought the price was reasonable (based on other estimates I had received) and scheduled the work for the beginning of the following week. When the work started the following week, I was able to climb on my roof with Mr. Keith and his crew. He walked me through all the areas that they would repair, showed me some examples of work they had done before I had been able to get up there, and gave me a sense of the total condition of my roof. As noted they did repairs to several parts of my main roof (repairing the flashing on several vents and the chimney), as well as replacing the roof above our front bay window. In addition, the crew replaced the gutters above that same window. In order to do this they had to install new facial boards along with new gutters - the facial boards was work not included in the initial estimate, and it took an extra day. I was not charged additional above the estimate for this work. In addition, there were "before" and "after" pictures, which led to more questions on my part. Mr. Keith answered all my questions, even returning to take additional pictures to show me what we had discussed on the phone. I was very pleased, found Mr. Keith clear and communicative, professional, and timely.
Description of Work: We had the roof above our front bay window replaced, several repairs done to the main (flat) roof of our row house, and replacing gutters at the front of our house. We have a row house in NW DC in Columbia Heights.

I was thoroughly satisfied with the job. Mr. Hugh Keith Jr. came to my house promptly and on time and gave me a very thorough estimate of the work to be done; he took "before" pictures of every problem area and promised "after" pictures if hired to complete the work. When I gave him the green light a couple of days later, his crew came out the next day, finished the job, and left the pictures for me as promised. My main issue was a particularly troublesome leak where water was coming in around a large duct leading from my HVAC unit into the house. The developer who sold the house to me had tried to fix it with his own contractors, and a different roofing company that he brought in also tried to fix it. Neither crew could stop the leak. Keith Roofing's repairs did the trick, though... several heavy rains since the fix and my ceiling is dry! As others have noted, their pricing is on the high side, even taking into account the discount that they give to Angie's List members. Still, at least in my case, it was worth it to finally knock out my leak and to have some other problem areas on my roof taken care of. Mr. Keith was professional, courteous, and prompt. Would definitely recommend/use again.
Description of Work: Keith Roofing fixed a leak in my roof (water was seeping in around some ductwork near my HVAC unit, which sits on top of my roof), shored up the seams around an old chimney, corrected a couple areas where water was ponding (including on top of the AC pitch pocket), and installed new metal edging along the back edge of the roof.

Mr. Keith made the entire process very easy. He personally came to our home to perform the estimate. We were worried we needed a new roof, but he assured us that full replacement was unnecessary and the problems could be taken care of with some repairs. He also told us that he works primarily on Capitol Hill and has a lot of experience with our type of roof. As part of the estimate, he took several pictures of the problem areas and described in detail how he would take care of them. When we decided to have the work done, we called Mr. Keith on a Friday to schedule the work and he and his crew were able to come out the following Monday. They showed up early, took pictures of the progress, and were finished without a trace of them ever having been there (other than a fixed roof) by 1:00 that afternoon. Mr. Keith followed up with a phone call and let us know he will be out again to check on the work to make sure everything is holding up the way it should. Overall, we are very pleased. Mr. Keith's professionalism and willingness to keep us informed throughout the process made a very stressful problem much easier to deal with.

Two months into owning our first new home, water started coming in from the roof around a vent in the ceiling in our second floor bathroom. I joined Angie's List and started calling around. I discovered that not all roofing companies will deal with slate roofs like ours. I found a company in DC (where our house is) that did repair slate roofs. The owner of Keith Roofing answered the phone and said he would take a look the same day I called. We have a two story house and the roof is pitched so that it is difficult to see what's going on up there. The same day I called for an estimate, he took photos for us, emailed them to me, and explained why the water was coming in (the prior owners used roofing cement to seal the vent and they didn't cap the vent properly--hence, the leak during a rainy and windy day). Because he was so responsive, had prior high ratings on Angie's list and seemed like he knew what he was doing, we decided to have him fix the problem. Plus, it was supposed to rain again the next day and we did not want anymore water damage. In the end, it worked out. The company reported the next day at convenient time for us, fixed the problem, took photos of fix for us and no more rain came in that night. $3K is a lot of money, but at least it fixed our problem and now we know what the state of our roof is like. Also, they cleaned our rain gutters for us at no extra expense, which was really nice. I would recommend Keith Roofing and will probably call them again if we have any further problems. The owner seemed genuinely concerned that we had just bought this house and the prior owners did not properly install the bathroom vent. He was sure to tell us to save the pictures of the roof for future reference. Also, the roofing crew was extremely clean and left no debris or anything around the house.
Description of Work: The roof was leaking around a pipe that vented a bathroom fan. There needed to be a pipe collar put on. Plus, the roof was missing slate tiles and some slates were loose. Basically the slate roof needed to be repaired.
