The job began with a core drill by Geoquest. After a two week delay for a report from the geologist then James Pittman's crew began the trenching. Each day the Pittman crew was on-site on-time and completed the job quickly. Any time there was a question James Pittman was ready to answer and quickly move the job forward. His personal crew did a top quality job, from start to finish. Dan leading the crew most of the time with Nate and Dave working hard. The painting done by Kim and Nate. Brad did a fantastic job on the brick work and truses. Thanks for a gread job and terrific looking garage.
Description of Work: Arrange for architect serveses with John Wheeler for a detached garage, trench, pour foundation, frame, roof, sidding, paint, arrange for garage door install, and final rerock the driveway.

We were moving back into our home and had a few weeks between when the renter moved out and we moved back in. We were worried about hiring a contractor and not being around to spot check the work until it was complete. But I found Jim on Angie's List and we decided to risk it. We were not disappointed. Jim did an excellent job of of working the bid and only required 1 additional trip to the house to confirm all his measurements (and went on a Sat when our renter was home). Jim started work when he said he would and was done early. The new doors and trim looks amazing in the house. We didn't have any problems when we returned to the house. It was clean, and everything was in its place. Jim was very good at keeping in contact with me with questions and confirming anything throughout the process. He agreed to letting me hold 1/4 the payment until we returned and saw first hand the work, which placated our fear of poor workmanship. There were a few minor issues but Jim was extremely prompt and fixed them all (just minor details that got lost in the email and phone exchanges- things that would easily have been solved on the spot if we were living in the house). I definitely recommend Jim for any projects you may have. He is extremely professional, dedicated, and honest. And I only met him once and didn't see any of the work until it was complete. We will definitely use Jim again for any projects we have. Thanks!
Description of Work: Jim and his crew replaced all our interior doors and all baseboards (including painting everything).

Pittman's service was great. Jim is an easy-going guy that is helpful and understanding in plan creation. Work began about 24 hours after our agreement, which includes the time it took him to get the necessary permitting. The whole project was done in about 2 weeks I believe and all of the workers were kind and willing to chat about project progress. The whole project included demo-ing a stud wall and building a new stud wall further into the room, then adding both 110 V and 220 V outlets, as well as W/D water and drain and vent connections. Also, linoleum flooring and bifold doors were added to the closet.
Description of Work: Deepened a closet and converted it to a laundry closet by adding plumbing and electrical hookups

They did a great job. Jim came out for a consultation and sketched out the best design compared to the 1 of 2 other contractors that showed up for their consultation and design. He had some smart ideas like chamfering a corner in the small bedroom that would help with flow in and out of the room. He also worked with us to supply most of the materials for the bathroom and had the bathroom tile redone since the first attempt (following my ideas) did not look right. They redid the work under the original quote price. Jim was a pleasure to work with, in my first remodel experience, and made sure we were happy with the product. We think the guest bathroom down there is nicer than our main bathroom shower upstairs! Pittman works to make sure you get what you want with your project. We would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: We had a bathroom and bedroom added to the basement and they installed shelving in our tandem portion of the garage.

The job went very well! I was exceptionally pleased with the work done in the house. The house was neglected by renters, and after his work was done, I am now able to put it on the market feeling confident every detail was covered.
Description of Work: I contacted Jim Pittman to do repairs on a home set to be put on the market. Jim and his crew were professional, organized, and prompt in getting the job done. He made sure every detail in the house was completed to my liking, even contracting out for a painter and window replacement, which was very reassuring to know everything was taken of in the process. I am very pleased with this company and feel confident in referring this company to anyone in need of home repairs and/or remodeling.
Jim Pittman responded quickly to my request. We met that same day. He assessed the work required and immediately knew who on his crew were available and could complete the job professionally and expediously. His team arrived the next morning, on time, as stated. They clarified my work request to ensure a mutual understanding of the work requested, they provided knowledgeable options for variations, then checked with Jim, and proceded to work. They were polite, respectful of entry and exit of the house, laying down protective drop cloths, and using the basement window to speed transport of materials and equipment. The jobs needed a bit of creative problem solving. The team knew what products to use and where to get additional items to create the right soutions. Jim's team were truely craftsmen in their skills. They didn't cut corners, they made sure the end product was seamless with the rest of the room. In addition, Jim worked with my schedule. My husband's breathing was compromised due to his military service in Afghanistan...and has already moved to a lower altitude. This left me to prepare the house for sale. Jim has made this last portion of the journey to join my husband a burden lightened. Thank you sooooo much for your help and professionalism! I would recommend Jim Pittman Construction and crew for quality, value, timeliness and price.
Description of Work: An unused basement bedroom needed repairs. The old scratched up mahogany-slab closet doors needed to be replaced. Several options were offered by the master carpenter - and we settled on 6-panel by-pass doors to match the rest of the house and optimize space. Two walls were poorly finished by the previous owner - and need retaping, mudding and texture.

I included most of the story above. The work was extensive but took much less time than anticipated. I expected the house to be a disaster during the process, but Jim and the crew took great care to keep dust and debris to a minimum.
Description of Work: I had major structural issues in my house and had a number of contractors and engineers look at the problem. Some jumped to conclusions and gave estimates that I was not comfortable with. Some did not seem to know where to start or how to address the problem. Jim and his crew had none of these problems. With the help of a structural engineer, the issues were identified and verified and the team went to work. They were prompt, courteous, reliable and affordable. I would not hesitate to use them again. Thanks to Jim and his crew, I have my house back. If I ever have any construction or remodeling jobs in the future, he will be the first person that I call. Thanks Jim!

I solicited bids from several general contractors rating highly on Angie's List. One declined to bid because of the questionable foundation and the extent of the remodel. Another put a large fudge factor in his bid for unknown conditions. Jim had most of his potential subcontractors up to the house to see it first hand and ask questions before proposing costs for their work. Jim submitted a bid with a breakdown of costs and was very up front about potential issues with the foundation which did occur. From initial submission through the final sign off, everything was passed by inspections from the Regional Building Department. He signed a contract I had drawn up with milestones and progress payments after we agreed upon a few changes. The planned work was delayed while the foundation issue was resolved including a few days delay because the structural engineer was unavailable. The foundation work passed inspection and then work upstairs began in earnest starting with major demolition. There were a few areas that were points of contention: little or no lead time given to me when I had to select items like a sink or when I was needed to meet with a subcontractor, one subcontractor not ordering items I had selected, another being tardy on delivering windows which held up other forward progress, and slow progress by what seemed to be an overbooked electrician who was very tough to get in touch with (unanswered voicemail, email "no working"). Subs can make or break a project.. I realize that Jim cannot control their responsiveness, but I hope he would think carefully about using some of them in the future. There are still some issues with one contractor's work that were discovered after final sign-off and he has been unresponsive. Jim got the plumbing company in right away to address a leak in the kitchen sink. These issues are all about the subcontractors. Jim's regular crew of Dan, Nate and Kim were terrific and did quality work. Dan even called to make sure the cabinets that were delivered were what I selected because he had not seen the combination of glass fronted white upper cabinets and dark wood lower cabinets. Kim did a lot of different work and she really was terrific in the painting and color selection process. Jim was very responsive to emails and requests and withstood some rants from me. I know he had a very slim profit margin and tried really hard to keep the overall cost down. I am really thrilled with the transformation, and he continues to check in to see how I am settling in and if any new issues arise. I will definitely put Pittman Construction at the top of my list for future projects.
Description of Work: This was a complete remodel of a tiny house (588 sq ft) built in 1928 probably initially as a summer home. The only exception was to leave the minuscule bathroom untouched because of cost constraints and code issues. The remaining interior was gutted to the studs including the removal of a "loft" and an interior walls to enlarge and open up the living space. The foundation had to be reinforced at additional cost to correct a slope of flooring in order to install new kitchen cabinets. The front and rear doors were repositioned; all windows were replaced; completely upgraded insulation; new high thermal windows; new kitchen cabinets, sink; all electrical upgraded and rewired to code, heating ducts replaced, new oak flooring; new water heater. The rear airlock with doors to the deck and back yard was repositioned to work with the new rear door location. New stairs down to the back yard.

The project was finished ahead of schedule. Jim consulted us every step of the way. He shopped around and found us the best products for our money. He managed the entire construction of our new home with minimal hold-ups and in a very professional manner.
Description of Work: Pittman construction was in charge of the entire construction of our new home. They began in July 2011 and were professional and punctual. The entire process, from start to finish, was a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend Pittman Construction to anyone looking for a quality project from awesome people!

Although they had not done this design before, they accepted the challenge willingly and they turned out perfect. The team members were enjoyable and very responsible to my wants and needs. In my opinion the price seemed too high but, I would definitely consider them for any additional projects on my home. Compared to other construction companies I have dealt with, working with this team was like a cake walk. Very professional and cleaned up after themselves. An overall great experience.
Description of Work: They built a shade wall on one side of my pergola based on my desire for a sliding door concept. I requested it be made of lattice so it would withstand the wind and still provide line of sight of the yard. It consisted of four panels, 2 stationary - one on each end, and 2 sliders in the middle.

Overall, we are very pleased with Jim's work. He has a good crew that does great work. His sub-contractors also are top-notch. Jim worked closely with us and our architect to ensure things worked out when plans needed to be adjusted after several design and layout issues cropped up. Jim demonstrated great flexibility and a can-do attitude for changes in plan. He also offered great alternate ideas when applicable. He and his crew were always punctual. If they said they would be here at 8 am, they were here at 8 am. Everyone involved was friendly, approachable, and answered any questions we had during all phases of this project. The work was spread out over several months. The driveway replacement and garage floor repair came first. Work was completed in short order and well done. The fireplace was longer in duration, primarily because we had to wait on the firebox to be delivered by the supplier. During some of the preliminary site survey work for the duct work, he and his crew noted that two existing roof vents were no longer sealed against the roofing material. He acquired new rubber and sheet metal seals and installed those while completing the fireplace work. The final project was the new wooden front porch and a decorative pergola. The deck part went smoothly. The pergola had issues though, but this is where he worked closely with the architect to re-engineer stability support. In the long run, things came out looking great and solidly built. The nice part was that Jim only charged us for materials on this portion of the project since all the extra time he had to put in wasn't, according to him, our problem. This, in our opinion, is a sure indicator of his integrity and dedication to doing good, quality work at a fair price. All regional building inspections of his work went well with no problems or issues. Everything met regional building code requirements. This is another great indicator of his and his crews top quality work. Based on our experience with him and other contractors from past home improvement projects, we'd place Pittman Construction at the top. We will be refurbishing our old garage space, and right now, Pittman Construction is who we plan to go with based on our past experience with this outstanding company.

My husband and I just moved into a house that was built by Pittman Construction. I believe that no job is too big or too small for this company. They had previously done a small remodel job for a friend and done such a wonderful job that we asked if they were up to building a house on property that we owned. All of the work that they performed was fast! Their framing work was of such good quality that inspectors and family friends in the construction business commented on it. The painting done by Pittman Construction was very well done and a lot of attention was paid to details. They even came back to touch up a couple things after we moved in that were scuffed by the movers! The company owner, Jim, was very organized and always stayed on top of every part of this extensive project. Jim made sure we communicated often and always returned messages very quickly. He also worked very hard to save us every cent that he could in the construction process; often getting multiple bids and making multiple calls to make sure we had the best quality for the best price. We couldn't be happier with the whole experience. We have a beautiful house and it was a stress-free build thanks to Pittman Construction!
Description of Work: Jim Pittman and his company built our new 4000 sq ft house. They took care of permit issues. They were in charge of project planning. They did all the framing work, from the ground up. They took care of all carpentry work and finish work. Jim and his crew added extra features to our house to make it unique and meet all of our various needs. They built two decks and porch. They were responsible for all indoor and outdoor paint. They were responsible for hiring and scheduling all sub-contractors.
We have worked with several contractors in the past and have had issues with each of the previous contractors; this is definitely not the case with Pittman Construction. Not only did Jim's bid come in considerably lower than other general contractors we contacted, he also finished our project in record time (during the winter) and at a premium level of quality. The entire Pittman Construction staff and subcontractors were extremely professional and consistently provided results that exceed our expectations (an unheard of quality). Jim and his crew kept us informed on the progress of the job and didn't do the "no-call, no-show" that we had been accustomed to contractors doing in the past. We cannot recommend Pittman Construction highly enough. We constantly receive compliments on our home improvements and we had a generally pleasant experience in the renovation process.
Description of Work: Pittman Construction built and finished a 620 foot sq foot attached garage on our home, added a powder room to the home interior and refinished the previous garage into a family room. Our home was built in 1978 and has been refinished in different stages, by various owners, which at times creates challenging conditions for a general contractor.
