Chris Carter renovated a house for an investor as a flip house, which I ended up purchasing. We were told that all permits had been acquired for the renovation. Chris was very nice and helpful when a few small issues came up shortly after my home purchase. About a year after purchasing, I noticed some small cracks in the ceiling, but another contractor that did work on something else told me they looked cosmetic only, so I didn’t worry about them. As time went on, these cracks grew much larger. I ended up hiring a structural engineer to take a look. He discovered that Chris had removed load bearing walls without adding proper support (the roof was supported by basically nothing). This is something that should have been caught during inspections for a permit, so when I checked the records to pull the permits, I discovered there weren’t any. Chris had only gotten a permit for an addition he did on the house, but not for the structural changes inside the original house. This is illegal and dangerous. Then, as if that wasn't enough, once the structural repairs were underway and we opened the walls, we found more issues (both structural and electrical!). The repairs cost me $15k. I tried calling Chris and left him voicemails, but he never returned my calls. My family was in danger in our house due to his negligence, and he couldn't even return a phone call. I would definitely NOT recommend using him.
