Pacific Paradise Pools

My wife and I shopped around, spoke with friends, and went around the area to see who was working on pools in our area. After narrowing the list down to three companies, my wife and I selected Pacific Paradise Pools, and it was the best decision. Bert was amazing, answered all of my questions, let me know next steps, and was very proactive in the preparation as he anticipated what would be needed in the 2-3 weeks out. He scheduled it early, anticipated logistics and staffing, and I can honestly say the only thing we had to wait on was the city for the inspections. I think the longest we waited was 7 calendar days for the city to do an inspection as he set it up earlier and also ensured materials and parts were ready to go weeks before so there were no delays. We completed the project on time and actually in remarkable time. We redid our entire backyard in four months and would highly recommend Bert as your Project Manager and PPP as your go to company.

Pacific Paradise Pools did a really great job for us. Our +30 year old pool and spa needed major work and we wanted to change things around to update and improve our backyard. We spent a lot of time researching and talking to different contractors before going with Pacific and it was the right choice. They communicated well with us in the design phase, making adjustments to what our "vision" of the project was to be. Construction went smoothly, on time and within budget except when we, as the owners, wanted minor changes made. The final project really was transformative in terms of not simply the pool but the entire backyard. I can't say enough about everyone associated with the project - Paradise Pools, their sub-contractors and the individual employees who worked on each phase of construction. The site was cleaned up and secured after each days work and they kept us informed every step of the way. The results really exceed our original expectations.

We originally contacted three pool contractors but selected Pacific Paradise Pools based on Rich's response time and professionalism, the fact that the company had a real (and nearby) showroom, and Rich's obvious experience in the industry. After comparing costs, we probably could have saved a bit of money with another vendor ($5k or less) but I honestly believe we received the best service and, in my experience, tradeoffs between cost and excellence are rarely worth it. Rich put together a team of experts who coordinated the various skilled work that needs to be performed for pool construction. They were able to deliver on the timeline and the cost projections, giving us everything we asked for and a beautiful pool just in time for the summer! We would highly recommend Rich and Pacific Paradise Pools.

The staff at Pacific Paradise Pools were extremely informative and knowledgeable. They worked well with us as they set up the plans for our pool construction. We had many questions and lots of options to create our fabulous pool. They were always very professional.They kept us up to date and were always easy to get a hold of whenever we called with questions. Since the pool was completed, we still have had questions and they are happy to help us out. We are very happy with our swimming pool and their continued service and would recommend Pacific Paradise Pools to anyone!

They did pool equipment and automation.

You want to look at the job they did on our pool.  Then you can make your own decision.
The plaster job went OK, except that they kept slipping the dates.  They also kept trying to add services on to the original bid.
The problem that has arisen is that calcium began to leach out of the plaster about 4 months after the installation.  The calcium deposits onto the surface and looks like small limpets, the small creatures you find in tidepools.  They range in size of about a quarter to the size of an infant's footprint.
Pacific Paradise maintains that they have no liability for this.  They insist it is not their fault.  They had a water expert come out and test the water.  His conclusion was that the water was within normal parameters, a little high in pH, but essentially acceptable.  They then had a plaster expert come out and make a report.  His assessment is that the dissolved salts are very high, which makes the pH unstable, which causes the leaching effect.  He said the presence of salt (it is a salt water pool) contributes to this high concentration, and that the solution is to add 5-mole borate to the water which will buffer the pH better, and solve the problem.  His recommendation is to drain the pool, scrape off the deposits, re-fill the pool, add the borate, let it sit for 60 days, then add back the salt.
My position is, that Pacific Pools knew it was a salt water pool, knew that white plaster pools "have this problem" (this is what Rich Tonti told me when he first saw the pool), and, having attended classes with the plaster expert, should have known about the 5-mole borate solution and added it to t he pool water during the initial water balance part of the project.
I have not heard fro Pacific Paradise pools in 4 weeks.  They have adopted the position that if they ignore me, I will go away.

One advantage is that they notify you before they do any work that will cost you more as a result in a change in the original plan. The major disadvantage is that every little change you do results in a charge. We did changes that required less work on their part than the original plan had specified, and received a less than satisfactory credit. We had multiple small cracks in our coping within a few days of the pour, and some fairly large ones in the decking. They repaired the largest of the cracks (very reluctantly), but overall the concrete quality was suspect (although I am, admittedly, not an expert on concrete). At the end of the job, the field supervisor gave us a verbal orientation on the operation of our pool. He patiently spent over an hour with us and answered all of our questions as they came up but did not suggest that we write things down. There were a lot of details and no written instructions were provided. He just recommended we get their own pool service to take care of the normal operations of the pool--which we did because we did not really remember all the details after their orientation. As with any firm, I would recommend that you are VERY specific about the scope of work up front (their quote included building a new driveway, however it did not include the demolition of the old) or you will run into change order charges the whole way through. Also, I would request some written document that covers instructions on the day-to-day operation of your pool and spa. Overall, I would say that they did competent, even good work for the most part, but the experience in dealing with them was less than optimal. The experience may have been different if they had done the design and softscaping since they would have been responsible for everything.
