Somehow my oil plug drain hole was cross-threaded by a previous service center, which irritatingly were asking over $600 to change out the oil pan. I had heard about a method whereby a slightly oversized self-threading plug could be used and avoid having to replace the pan. I could find no one to do it. All said that it only works on aluminum oil pans and my 2004 Highlander's oil pan is steel. Angel at Dublin Automotive to the rescue. He re-tapped the drain hole for the M12-1.25 plug and applied the oversized plug (M12-1.25 S.O., for single oversized). Success at less than 1/5 the cost, including the oil/filter change. I'm going to Dublin Automotive & Smog from now on. Angel is the best!!
