AVANT STONE COUNTERTOPS

They are terrible. Their work is terrible. I don't know if there is a worse place out there. I do not recommend Avant Stone. They have 4-5 different names so they are not a trustworthy company. They canceled on coming out to fix it three times. When they came out to repair it, they asked for $350 for polishing even when they sold me on a $35 warranty that they would be able to fix it anytime. They damaged my refrigerator when they put it in, and would not even admit to doing that

Dangerous mold in a living environment could be a major disaster. Kevin Sasser, the owner of Disaster Mitigation, started the job as soon as the environmental report was available. He was always available by phone and/or e-mail. His project manager Jeff Wilson contacted me as soon as he was assigned the job and he too was always available. They kept me apprised of the progress of the mitigation, repairs, etc. The repairs were done well; the cabinet & floor replacements were of good quality. The painting was well done

The morning after my home was ruined by a tornado I hired Disaster Mitigation and Restoration to rebuild and repair. The first thing they did was walk through the home video taping the damage. Shortly thereafter they began removing the damaged contents and clearing the area for repairs. The salvaged contents of my home went to their climate controlled storage facility. I received a insurance estimate from my adjuster which stated what was covered and what was not going to be repaired under my policy. DMR worked with me to put it all back the right way. If something wasn't covered by insurance they either provided me what I found to be a very cost effective means of handling the issue or fixed it outright without question. I was left with the impression that they truly understood their work and the final product was the best advertising they could do. The most notable situation I recall dealt with a concrete patio that I had them pour. I had not had a patio prior to the tornado but figured I would pay DMR to install one since they were working on the house already. I visited the house after the patio was poured and was somewhat skeptical about the grading of the concrete away from the house. Patios need to direct water away from the house. I had worked in concrete before and though the grading wasn't the best job I accepted it as adequate and didn't mention any complaints to the DMR. A week later I visited the house and discovered a new patio had been poured. When I asked the builder what happened he said "I didn't like the grade so we did it again." Unbelievable! The original grade would have worked fine, he made it better

Sherrill Davis Construction

We had a small kitchen fire on 12/14/18 with mostly smoke damage in our 101 year-old house. After a few weeks of dealing with clean-up, repair estimates, and a couple of sub-par insurance company-listed repair contractors, we contacted Sherrill. He and his son Ian came by promptly and after some discussion we decided to go ahead and re-model the kitchen (which we had planned to do in a few years anyway). They are super to work with and a family-run business that truly cares about quality craftsmanship, and it shows. The plan Sherrill drew up perfectly matched the classic look of our old home with new quality cabinetry, walls, ceiling, flooring, moving our sink, and required electrical upgrades. During the process of tearing out the old wall coverings, additional smoke and soot damage was found and Sherrill negotiated and got additional repairs approved with our insurance adjuster quickly, which required complete removal of the old beadboard smoke-damage walls and ceiling. All the old framing was sprayed and soot-sealed carefully, and insulation was replaced/added to eliminate the possibility of any smoke odors from the fire returning later. Sherrill, Ian, and Ryan did a fantastic job with all aspects of the demolition, construction, cabinet assembly/installation, new flooring & beadboard ceiling, new appliance installation, hauling off old debris, etc., and took great care to protect other areas of the house. They also ran into quite a few other issues with the old-style construction, including removing an old corner chimney, repairing the surrounding floor and part of a large rotting floor beam, and some minor framing upgrades. The sub-contractors Sherrill uses (in our case electrical, plumbing, painting, & granite countertop installation) are also top-notch, and were scheduled appropriately and at the right times during the process. We truly love our new kitchen, and the fact that it will add value to our home

Signature Flooring

Awful and a nightmare. The project was promised to be completed within one week. The work Signature did took longer than a month. This is not counting the time it took me to find another company to re-do and repair the mess Signature made of my home. My refrigerator was in the dining room for weeks. The quartz counter was poorly seamed ( but the owner of Signature said he thought the seam was “just fine”); two tiles on the floor had to be lifted and reinstalled by the second company I hired (Jesse Morrison and Sons) due to them being crooked and corners not flush; the ENTIRE backsplash had to be torn out and reinstalled because tiles were crooked! Really? Yeah. Signature company tried to straighten out the backsplash by removing and reinstalling a few tiles but seems once one gets subway tiles going crooked, they all go crooked. Right. They refused to tear it all out and re-do unless I paid them MORE money. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I paid another company (Jesse Morrison and Son) to rip it all out and replace the entire backsplash and the non-flush floor tiles. Mr. Morrison had to take the kitchen walls down to the studs in order to properly install new tile. Signature flooring refused to replace the thresholds from the kitchen to the dining and living rooms. Jesse Morrison did it for me for no charge. Signature somehow punched a 6” hole in the drywall behind the refrigerator that we didn’t find until we had to move the frig Again for the repairs. Mr. Morrison repaired the hole. The poor work just kept revealing itself. The backsplash was so poorly installed by Signature that switch plate covers couldn’t be replaced. Jesse Morrison fixed all that with the new backsplash. Wood baseboards they had removed they didn’t replace, instead told me that the baseboards weren’t there to begin with. What the? This project was a disaster from the beginnng. Signature owners were sarcastic, told me I was too picky to want tiles straight and flush. It was a nightmare. I paid them their full price ($10,000 - for some reason this form won’t let me put that amount in the designated field) and moved on with finding reputable workers to fix everything Signature messed up. It was important to us to get our home back into order

Tim and his crew did an excellent job on my installation. They were punctual and friendly. They did a very thorough job and returned promptly to correct a few places in the tile. They fixed a few extras for me outside of the initial installation. Everything was completed within three days. They always left the job site clean at the end of the day. Tim is very fair in his pricing. I would highly recommend Countertop Solutions

We shopped around quite a bit and considered the normal big box DIY stores like Lowes and Home Depot and several speciality stores. Prostone gave us five references and all of the customers were extremely pleased with their work and one of the customers had work done by another of the speciality stores we were considering and liked ProStone much more. They mentioned a problem with the first company that they had been waiting three weeks for the company to come back and fix. ProStone fixed the problem for them at no extra charge. One thing we liked is that they used their own installation people and did all of the removal and installation except plumbing after installation. They did disconnect all plumbing and mount all the sinks. The install was beautiful and they handled all issues such as ''out of square'' walls very good. Their prices for granite, sinks, and faucets was the best we found and we highly recommend them. They followed up several times to make sure we were happy

Eric Cook, a general contractor, owns and quot;Home Renuand quot; and works out of both the Triad (Greensboro, High Point and Winston-Salem) and Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill...) areas. I asked Mr. Cook if he could fix some problems in my small home in order for me to turn it into a rental property. (I was a single mom and had purchased a 2-bedroom house before I remarried and we moved into my husband's house.) Mr. Cook offered a free estimate that was easy to understand, thorough and reasonably priced. Mr. Cook even helped me work out an agreeable payment plan (win-win) that enabled me to do the work. Mr. Cook began work in February of 2011 and the house was ready to rent mid-March. I was able to get my house rented for more than my original rent rate by April 1st! The response was overwhelming! Several couples who were interested in renting the house said it was one of the most beautiful rentals they had seen. I had 2 renters in line in case the first couple did not qualify! Mr. Cook did a really quality job bringing out period details (the house was built in 1947) in his choices of neutral paints for the walls and moulding, painstakingly repairing and cleaning the mozaic tile floor (tiny, square tiles in an intricate black and white pattern) in the bathroom, and fine-tuning the landscaping to help the boxwoods and pre-established garden stand out along the main walk. You always hope you can find a and quot;service providerand quot; that will treat your project with care and detail. I know I have a hard time choosing someone from a list in the yellow pages, internet searches, etc. that I can trust to do the whole job, a good job, not overcharge me, and someone you can count on. I have complete faith in Mr. Cook and Home Renu after seeing what quality work looks like. Also, knowing that Mr. Cook can be a resource for all things home improvement-related, I won't go searching again

I was looking for a replacement countertop (from laminate to granite or quartz). Wow there are a lot of guys that will do this and a lot of choices. I choose Prostone for their price. Had them install a popular low cost quartz countertop and sink. $45 / sq ft. was really the best price I found. The install was OK, one piece was not cut exactly right (they said my walls / counters were not level and square), so they cut into the drywall to try and get it to fit. In the end it looks good, but took extra work on my part to fix the wall. Also, if you want to get a better look at granite (styles?) go to the distributor's store 1st and pick out what you want, then go to the counter top guys and have them quote install of that style

This is probably the most painful review that I have ever had to leave. It’s most painful because the process was so easy and we were SO sure to have made the right choice. Our Sales Associate was amazing. They had a great selection. We were able to quickly obtain a sample. I could go on and on about why I thought this was going to be the most amazing experience. But then it happened. Generally speaking, I wish that there was more “coaching” for getting ready for templating with an older home. The old cabinets were not level. As a matter of fact, they were way out of level. That’s on us. MGW was able to re-schedule our template appointment, which was wonderful. Still, we have nearly ½” gaps between the wall and the countertop due to “old walls”. Okay, that’s on us. We gave them our sink, showed them our existing cooktop and followed all other instructions. They measured the cooktop and took the model number. On installation day, the hole was measured, the cooktop was measured, again. All seemingly great news until my electrician arrives to install the cooktop and the hole is too big. He has to build a smaller square to support the glass cooktop that was solely resting with fractions of inches of support from the countertop. I am told by one of the owners that it “meets specifications” and “is normal” since it’s not “falling through the hole”. “Unless it’s falling through the hole, we did our job.” This was his “hill”! He stood aggressively firm in that they did everything right and in, over, 40 years this has never been an issue. So, again, we the homeowners and, now, the manufacture specs are at fault. When I tell you that I was shocked by his behavior and unwillingness, not only to, own any fault whatsoever, but blatant disregard for customer service; it’s probably an understatement. He was so defensive and self-assured at the same time. Fortunately, for me, my electrician is also a trim carpenter. I didn’t need MGW to take ownership or be responsible for these minor failures, but my hope was that they would so that I did not have to write this ending to the story. So that I don’t have to look elsewhere for future projects. Literally one person stands in the way of a GREAT referral, but I am reminded that people make, or break, the difference. Not the CNC machine, not the manufacturer specs and certainly not the belief that fractions of inches is sufficient support for a glass cooktop. You know, the thing that you rest heavy pots and pans on (up to 4 at a time). But what do I know? Clearly. UPDATE: I contemplate deeply before writing a review and only to the extent that it’s helpful for others. I hope that it rings true here. I took some time over the weekend to meet with the owner that I spoke to by phone earlier in the week. I was reminded that on two separate occasions, he came out to make some minor repairs to the countertop after install. Within the day, on separate days, he was able to come to our home to make the repair. It certainly reminded me why we chose MGW in the first place. It was a little more expensive than what we were originally considering, but it was worth it. The consideration to update my zero-star review to a four-star review is that IF this problem had not already been resolved, and irrespective of “responsibility”, I believe that MGW would have worked to make a better solution to secure the cooktop. This cooktop was existing to the house when we purchased it, but the previous homeowners purchased it in 2015. So, I wouldn’t consider it ancient. Still, it needed further consideration and I believe that this served as a learning experience

Richard is incredibly efficient and exacting- Other reviews say "meticulous," and I agree. At the end of every day, Richard was sure to clean up and leave all areas neat. He allowed the kitchen to be as useable as possible. He made great recommendations and suggestions. Before adding molding to the ceiling, he had to remove 27 yr old wallpaper border. He did this easily and seemed to have the molding up in no time. I had some very plain, unfinished-looking areas on cabinets and walls that he enhanced with molding, as well. In order to install the backsplash I wanted, he had to take out a cabinet above the microwave so he did this, raised the microwave, and made a box for a future wine rack above the microwave with left-over room. He installed new backsplashes beautifully. Some of the cabinet doors were a bit crooked and the counters were not level. He fixed them, as well. Richard and an electrician friend of his installed canned lighting in the ceiling, added pendant lights, and changed out the chandelier. They also installed under counter lighting and moved outlets for more convenience. Incidentally, they also installed a ceiling fan in a bedroom. Richard has also done many other jobs for me. Recently, he installed a hot tub on my deck, replaced rotten boards, painted the deck, and secured it underneath for the weight of the tub. He installed new railings, as well. Richard power washed the area, including my deck cushions. Richard is as non-invasive as possible by being as quiet as the job allows and by being courteous in manner and approach. He is polite, well-spoken, and seems to enjoy challenging jobs. He is not passive in his thinking, but rather he is always problem-solving and engaged. He wants the customer to be happy with the job he has done. He is happy when he can walk away knowing his customer is satisfied-who wouldn't want someone like him working for them! Richard has family members who can help him when the job calls for more than one person ( such as installing a hot tub). His daughter is a handy-woman by profession and he has sons who help him at times

This company installed our cabinets and countertops and from the beginning we had problems. The measurements were taken incorrectly for the cabinets and we had to make changes that were not totally satisfying to us but we compromised with SI and gave them the job. Second, we had our countertop crack which they replaced, but now the other counter is cracked and we are having a difficult time getting someone to come back and fix that. It appears that now SI has our money, they don't want to stand behind their product and take care of their Customers. We have reached out to them several times with no luck. We want them to stand behind their product and replace our counter which is cracke

American Wood Reface

I contracted the job in December 2018 -- everything was thoroughly explained before purchase, and the work began January 2019, as promised. The kitchen cabinets were stripped down to the boxes, which were oak, and in very good condition. I ordered birch for the doors, sides and bottoms, in a beautiful red oak stain. (My cabinets didn't require tops.) I couldn't be more pleased with the quality/construction/thickness of the wood, the Amish wood crafters did a PERFECT job, the grain and stained color are outstanding -- I continue to be very impressed every day with the beauty of the wood. I also had thick shelving installed inside the cabinets, as my old shelving was thin and bowed/bent down. The included cabinet hardware is so attractive, with a life-time guarantee. I had the lower cabinets replaced with drawers, and a large pullout drawer installed under the sink. I also had the 'silent close' hinge feature added to all the cabinets and drawers -- no more banging cabinets!! The installers, Mike and Robert, were hardworking, VERY detailed, wanting to please -- *the best workers I have ever had on any project, ever*. The cabinet doors are lined up perfectly at each edge. They stayed with the job late, until every detail was complete. I think it took a little less than two days to complete. They swept and cleaned up all mess. Since then, I have had two service calls regarding adjustments on the hinges, and the quick repairs were done excellently, no charge -- thank you, Tim! *I also received superb recommendations for hiring others (Steve) for countertop, backsplash and flooring. I cannot praise this company enough for the quality of service and product, plus the quickness in responding to any questions or service call I needed. I would definitely use them again and highly recommend them to anyone -- Outstanding!

He can do it all. Eric is always personable and helpful. He is a nice person to have on site and easy to work with. I have referred Eric many times. We were so happy with his work and creativity, that we referred him to friend who hired him to build a master suite in a garage. It is beautiful. Friends and business constituents were pleased with his work as well. I guess I have referred Eric a couple of dozen times and you will not be sorry
I wanted to remodel my bathroom. It was outdated with a large corner garden tub and a very small shower. I had a vision of exactly what I wanted to do. Jason, the owner, came out to do an initial walk-through and quote. He listened to everything I wanted to do and did not try to sway me to do anything else. His quote was detailed and included everything we talked about. His contracts and pricing were reasonable and we happily proceeded. His foreman Matt, and his crew were superb. They arrived every day on time. Extremely trustworthy, even making me comfortable enough to leave the house. They were very diligent about laying down the tarps, keeping demo and building as tidy and clean as possible. Jason came by regularly to check progress and answer any questions and address any changes or add-ons that I wanted to do. Jane, the office manager, was quick to answer any additional questions and provide information as I asked. This was a seamless transition and I couldn't be happier. I highly recommend this company to do any and all remodeling, updating and general construction projects in the home. I would not hesitate to use them for my next one. I now have my dream bathroom and it's fabulous! Many thanks to J Ashley
It does look nice. The tech was wonderful. He was nice and pleasant. He said he couldn't do anything else about it and I'm not sure if someone could have done better but there is a lump in one of the areas because the tiles underneath were broken. They had to seal the tiles so there is a hump, it's not smooth, in an area of the floor. Some of the surface finishing started coming off. I was seeing white spots all over the place. Some were bigger than others. It was like the coating was coming off. The first time it happened was before the painters. The second time, they blamed the painters with their ladders. To me, if you do something, it should be able to take wear and tear but they weren't going to do it. The tech was always very nice but the owner was not always nice. Then the second bathroom started showing these little things too. They weren't going to fix the second bathroom because they were blaming the painters. I offered to pay to have it repaired but the owner said the tech would do it. Owner said I should have told him before they come over. I tried to tell him but the owner wasn't listening to what I was telling him. For the most part, the job looks very, very nice but I would not use them again because of the owner. They did fix both floors without extra cost. He did call later on and apologized
This went so well. The deck had been partially smashed by a large tree branch and other trees damaged a front porch. The work was beautiful, lovely quality craftsmanship, even, true and attractive. Also also needed some towel bars hung and a small furniture fix. All was completed quickly and professionally
From Planning and permits to putting the finishing touches on our bedroom, family and bathroom addition, we were totally satisfied. With pandemic and epic weather, we were completed as promised, a week early. Jeff the owner is always available, fair and responsive. He had things taken care of that never crossed my mind, covered and knew just what the local codes called for. The property was kept clean and all workers were respectful of us and our property. A+ all around
My major complaint was how long it took, but in their defense, there seems to be a shortage of qualified technicians. I would have given them an A for the repair work which was fine except for one small slip up which he corrected. The price seemed steep for the time involved, but cheaper than new countertops. All in all, I would hire them agai
First of all, I called 3 local handymen to get quotes. One never returned my call. Two showed up, as they promised. One quote was almost 3 times the other quote (I was expecting a price more in line with the lower quote). I was pleased with the contractor that gave me the lower quote, who owns a local handyman franchise. He sent his quote via email. I responded to his email asking when could I schedule the work to be done. After not hearing from him, I called his office number and left a message. Another week go by and I called his cell phone and left a message. To this day, I still haven't heard from him. So, I started looking for another handyman to call, and luckily found Chris, Mr Fix It. I found his website late one evening, so I submitted an inquiry through is website. He emailed me the next morning and said he was on a job site with spotty cell service, but would call later. He did just that and came out on a Saturday to give me a quote. He showed up a few minutes early and was very professional and friendly. He gave us a ballpark estimate (which was similar to the other quote we were planning on using), and emailed me a formal, final quote that evening. He said he could come out a week from the following Monday to do the job. He actually called the following Sat and said he could come that day. We told him we wouldn't be home, but he could go ahead and come (the work was all exterior), and we'd leave him a check. He sent photos to us as he was completing the work, which was great documentation! When we returned home we were quite pleased with how the siding work looked and there was absolutely no mess or sign that workers had even been there! So, considering that he actually showed up when he said he would, was very good at communicating with us, and fit us into his schedule quickly for a reasonable price, we were tickled!! We're definitely keeping his card on hand to use him again!
Mr. Smith has been working at my home for the last two weeks. He comes when he says he will and stays until the jobs for the day are done. He is quick, efficient, friendly and a pleasure to work with. I have been so pleased with his work and his price, I have told everyone I know about him but I tell them they can't call him till he's finished with my house. I feel very fortunate to have met Mr. Smith and I will be calling him anytime I need a handy man. He is a true "Do It All Handyman"

What do customers in Winston Salem say about Countertop Repair?
Chris Sampson (the owner of Custom Construction and Custom Electric) has been our "go-to" home repairman/renovator for the past 4 years. We first used his services to correct approx $#30,000 worth of home repairs that were needed on the home we had just purchased. Everything he did was competitively priced, and he would take a lot of time investigating multiple options so we had choices regarding what we wanted done. We have been 100% satisfied with all the work he has ever done for us (he has done a lot of additional repairs and renovations since we first contracted with him in 2008), and have never needed to call anyone else for any home repairs. No matter what the need has been, Chris has been able to handle the job. We have also referred him to many of our friends and co-workers, and they have all been extremely pleased with his work. Custom Construction is a very reliable company with an exceptional work ethic and attention to details. Client satisfaction is taken very seriously, and all work is completed on or before the contracted time frame. I can confidently say that if you hire Custom Construction for any job, you will not be disappointed.
