Groundworks

I HAVE A HARD TIME GETTING ANYONE TO DO SERVICE WORK WHERE I LIVE. I LIVE JUST OUTSIDE PRESCOTT WI, WHICH IS ONLY A STONES THROW FROM MN. HOWEVER SO MANY TWIN CITY BUSINESSES THINK THAT WE LIVE AT THE END OF THE EARTH AND DO NOT WANT TO COME OUT THIS FAR. I NEEDED A LOT OF LANDSCAPE WORK DONE...SO I LOOKED IN THE PHONE BOOK AND DECIDED TO CALL GROUNDWORKS. (THEY ARE LOCATED IN HASTINGS MN) JUST ACROSS THE RIVER, ABOUT 12 MILES. I REALLY LUCKED OUT....THE WORK THEY DID WAS EXCELLENT....WORK I THOUGHT FOR WHAT I HAD DONE WAS REASONABLE. WHEN I FIRST CALLED, THE CALL WAS RETURNED WITHIN A DAY....CAME AND DID THE WORK WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD...CANNOT SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS.....SO IF ANYONE LIVES ON THIS SIDE OF THE WORLD AND NEEDS LANDSCAPING, (WALLS ETC) I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND GROUNDWORKS...THEY ALSO DO SNOWPLOWING IN THE WINTER. DID THE LAST PART THIS APRIL 2004 FOR $4000. THE REST WAS DONE LAST YEAR AND IN 2001...TOTAL COST WAS 14000.00

Outdoor Concepts

Joe and Company Outdoor Concepts came out to our site, assessed our needs and developed a plan of attack that would give us the most bang for the buck. He then set a time table for moving forward, and let me know, what I needed to do to make sure the site was ready to go when he arrived. The materials were delivered, and Joe arrived with the crew and in short order built three very impressive stone retaining walls, two on the south side of our home and one on the east. The east retaining wall was built with the idea in mind of creating a future water feature. We are hoping to have him back out later this summer to do that. Having seen other water features that he has done, we are really looking forward to the transformation that can only add to his already beautiful work. With the plantings that were tastefully added last fall, the wall and plants are really the focal point of our yard. We couldn't be more please with the process, and the outcome. Joe listened to what we were asking for, and delivered in a big way

C Brandt Pavers & Landscapes

Chris came out initially to take a look at the back yard and to discuss the project. I had asked him to put together a design based on some initial ideas and requirements of our own. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about installing patios. We discussed some issues with needing to improve water run off from the back of the house. We were in contact numerous times before start day to refine the design and choose pavers and lighting. Chris was always very responsive to my emails and calls and always pleasant to talk with. On start day, he showed up with his crew and a slew of machinery to excavate and prepare the base for the patio. He worked with me to mark off the perimeter and shape of the patio. When the size of the patio ended up bigger than what I had initially sent as measurements (my error), he didn’t complain- he just said he would order the additional pavers and we’d adjust the final invoice. I had asked him to try and not rip up the surrounding lawn too much and so they laid plywood and made sure that the skidsteers and other trucks stayed on that one small area. This was a real sign of their professionalism to me. I was amazed how the patio took shape in just 1 week. The crew worked through blistering heat and never complained. At the end of week 1, the patio was installed minus the final 4 cap lights since we had to wait for the lights to arrive. I make a partial payment to Chris for the work completed and then 1 week later, he came out and finished the lighting and worked through the electrical hook-ups to the house with our electrician on that day. We used pavers from a vendor who Chris uses and I was pleased with the look of what we chose. The pavers were installed well and Chris used polymeric sand to hold them in place. The job site was cleaned up every night and they moved excavated soil and aggregate base and we never had a “mess” at the house. Part of the project involved them ripping out a concrete landing outside of our adjacent garage access door and I never saw the broken concrete because they just hauled it away. Overall the patio looks incredible and I wouldn’t have asked for a better experience with an installer than what we got with Chris and his crew. I felt that the pricing of the project was very fair and that Chris and his guys were dedicated to finishing the patio as quickly as possible

When we decided to make a significant addition to our backyard in the way of a raised patio, we were unsure about how to tell the difference from one landscaper and the other. Price was an issue as it was not a small project. But I also like to support local businesses too. Seems most anyone can provide some referrals if they are legit. But I know the devil is in the details. First off design was a major point of discussion as the project called for a somewhat spiral set of stone steps coming off the patio down to the yard and adjoining lower level patio and portico that was already in place. Everyone I asked to present a design, (3 seperate firms) all brought back steps going exactly where I did not want them. EL quickly revised the design and came right back with exactly what we asked for and more. Several suggestions around specially challenging areas that others brushed over. Seeing how it came together it was obvious the experience they possess paid off. The weather was the hottest it has been in years and dry dry dry. These guys were on time every day and slugged it out during the worst weeks of the worst heat ever. I was amazed at the tenacity to bust through and get our project done for the Labor day Holiday. Each day the site was cleaned up and tidy when they left at 5 or after. Our property was respected and great care was taken to minimize the damage to the existing lawn, driveway and landscaping. When we asked for some addition work during the project we were quickly advised and given the quote and they actually completed the additional work first. A fire pit using some of the original retaining wall blocks that were removed. It looks awesome too. They guys were good to have around and cheerful while working like dogs to create something we will enjoy for so many years to come. Now to the details. Straight lines on a 36 foot long raised paver patio. Built on 40 tons of gravel fill all placed one wheel barrow at a time. Enough grade that water runs off yet level enough for the hot tub. Did I mention the lines are straight straight straight? Like many building projects it all about the preparation. These guys painfully laid it out and did not cut corners in getting this monster look like it was made for Kings. Oh yea it also has a massive S curve around the garage and it is an eye grabber. The trim and rock boundary was also so nice and clean looking! Planted grass seed in the bare spots on the way out. Connected the downspouts from my gutters in to rigid underground pipes that will never collapse like the flex pipe others proposed

Meyers Contracting
5.0
My experience with Meyers Contracting was exceptional. Kevin was wonderful to work with. He had very valuable input throughout both projects. He worked very neatly and efficiently and both projects have turned out beautiful. The story from the most recent project: The project started with adding the two egress windows - one for each bedroom. Next was the framing of the existing concrete walls. I had some existing thin foam insulation, but chose to add extra insulation by framing out the walls - Kevin suggested this and in my mind, this was a great decision - there are no drafts or cool air coming through the walls. The cost was definitely worth it. It really feels like a living area - NOT a basement. I also removed one wall and added a header to open up the room further. Power and electrical (including CAT5/cable) came next in the process. I am very pleased with the lighting. Kevin made a few suggestions on placement of recessed lighting, closet lighting, and adding an extra switched outlet in the bedrooms to allow a lamp to be turned off using a switch next to the bed. I love this! Once the electrical was complete - the drywall came next. This only took a few days - I watched him work on this and was very impressed. In one of my previous projects (yes, I have taken on quite a few projects - so I have experience to draw from!) I used a professional drywall contractor. I could clearly see the join on the ceiling - they had to come back and redo the ceiling and told me something about how his son was just learning...ugh! In any case, The drywall finish from Meyers Contracting was perfect. There are no visible seams - and the texturing matches the upstairs perfectly. I did my own painting and I paid to have carpet installers come in. After this piece was completed, Meyers Contracting came in and did all of the trim work. The corners are cut absolutely spot-on perfect. I would highly recommend this very professional contractor

They did an excellent job. The crew was highly available to us and were very punctual. They were very solisitice of our opinions on all the work that they did. The crew was also very friendly and thorough. They explained everything out to us regarding what they were doing and why. Their line of communication with us was very good. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing any landscaping work done. This was the second time that we had used their services. They had built a pond for us in our backyard. They did an excellent job on this as well. THey were very efficient. They got the entire job, pump to run the waterfall, etc, all in one day! They even used some of the dirt from digging the pond out to build up a trail that I use to drive the tractor on

George and his crew did an excellent job! Since this was the first time we have ever taken on a remodeling project, we had ALOT of questions. George was very helpful and patient with us as we decided everything from floor type to cabinet style. He explained everything very clearly and helped to point out possible problems and offer up solutions (like water damage in the walls, which he was able to fix). He was very easy to get ahold of for those last minute and late night questions. He even found us a fabricator for the custom indoor railing I had in mind. The project did take longer than expected, but it was well worth the wait! I would rehire this crew for any future projects and highly recommend them for any work, big or small, that you have. What else can I say? They kept the work site very clean and the dust in the house to a minimum. The whole crew was friendly and helpful with our random questions throughout the process and seemed to really know what they were doing. They even offered to meet us at stores to help make decisions or if things went a bit over our heads. Overall, I feel that they went above and beyond what others would offer. NOTE: The photos I attached are very close to the end stage, but not final. Keep that in mind for areas that were later painted and some trim that was added

without hesitation, would recommend this contractor to anyone. each person who performed the work was courteous, performed exceptional work, cleaned up their work on a daily basis, and worked around our schedule (as much as possible). randy (the tile guy) took an ugly, outdated tub area and turned it into a masterpiece. he does extremely professional tile work. Charles answered all our questions (and we had a lot of them) on a timely basis. he kept us informed on the progress of the job and took prompt attention to any issues we had. crew took care to keep dust from getting into rest of our home, was friendly and courteous at all times, and bent over backwards to accommodate us

Oakvale builders
1.0
We were extremely excited to begin construction on our new home overlooking our beautiful lake on property we had recently purchased. After months and months of planning and working with a very talented architect, who helped us envision the home of our dreams, we searched for a builder. We contracted with Oakvale Builders owner Daniel J. Enberg to build our new home for us. Unfortunately the home construction ended up to be a nightmare. The process started off well enough until we noticed and questioned structural deficiencies and variances from our original architectural plans such as: 1) The lack of 2 x 4 wind bracing and diagonal bracing of the trusses. Daniel J. Enberg would not provide the truss drawings to verify. We ended up going to the truss company directly and obtaining them. We had to hire another contractor to properly brace up the trusses as Daniel J. Enberg refused to correct the situation. 2) The pouring of the concrete basement floor does not have control joints leaving uneven flooring of ?? to 1 ?? throughout as well as cracks, footprints and chatter marks which could not be covered by tile or carpet. We ended up hiring another contractor to pour a concrete cap over the top. 3) The trench drain in the lower garage was not installed properly so water from the garage floor does not slope to the drain. 4) Water was leaking into the house and shingles blew off due to improper application of Tyvek and shingles. We hired another contractor to repair the Tyvek and shingles on a large part of the roof as Daniel J. Enberg refused to correct the situation. 5) The window and door heights were not installed at the correct height as well as the ceiling height in several rooms. We are unfortunately having to live with these issues which serves as a daily reminder of Oakvale Builders poor workmanship. 6) Improperly installed window flashing, joist hangers, chimney cap, and top plates on bearing walls. We ended up hiring another contractor to correct these issues as Daniel J. Enberg refused to correct his mistakes. Besides the defective workmanship issues we dealt with, there are numerous items on our contract that Oakvale Builders, Daniel J. Enberg refused to complete: 1) Final grading of the lot not completed 2) Framing of the deck not completed 3) Installation of 5 doors not completed 4) Upper garage flooring not completed 5) Did not provide roof warranty, lifetime waterproofing warranty, lien waivers and receipts We also had one of the sub-contractors put a lien on our house as Mr. Enberg did not pay them for the work that was performed even though we paid Oakvale Builders the amount due to this sub-contractor. We turned over our complaints to the local county sheriff to investigate. In doing so, the sheriff attempted to contact Mr. Enberg but was unsuccessful. The next thing we knew, Mr. Enberg claimed we were impersonating a police officer by leaving a message for him which was actual the county sheriff. He also claimed we sent him an unsigned letter which we have no knowledge of. Most recently his attorney notified our attorney that a woman in our area who was charged with a homicide was living with us. His legal team indicated this woman was our daughter. We have no knowledge of this woman and we actually would have only been 10 years old when she was born, making it kind of hard to be her parents! It has been very stressful dealing with Mr. Enberg?s defective workmanship, questionable business ethics and ridiculous accusations. We have filed a lawsuit against Oakvale Builders and Daniel J. Enberg which is currently being litigated. We definitely would NOT recommend Oakvale Builders or Daniel J. Enberg for any construction projects

DUNN-RITE CONSTRUCTION

I had found this contractor in the paper, they were the only people who where advertising drywall. Originally my husband and I were going to try to hang the drywall our selves and do all the mud and taping. I was only looking for some one to apply a texture on the walls. I called to talk to Randy (owner) and he said just to do an orange peel texture would run us about $200. Then he told me that he charges 40 cents a square foot to do a drywall job (that would include to hang, tape and mud, and texture). So me being 8.5mo pregnant and needing a shower (soon!) we decided to just hire them (it was only about an extra $175 and it would all be done!). They did the job in our 9x13 room in 4 days. We were a little disappointed right away because when they got here they asked why we left all the lath and plaster intact...I had talked to him on the phone though and said that we were planning to lay the drywall over the top of the lath and plaster walls and he had said that would be fine. Then when he was actually here he said we should have took it down?? They told me that the walls would not be perfectly straight because the lath and plaster walls were not (its a 1918 house...trust me nothing is straight!) I said I was willing to deal with that, I just needed a functioning bathroom before the baby got here! Then the next thing that we noticed that bothered us was that they were kind of messy. our house has been a construction zone for the last 9 months since we bought the place, I really am trying to keep it clean and neat so it bothered me that they didn't take as much precaution in this area. I understand that drywall is a dusty dirty job and that there was bound to be some mess but...they tracked across my carpet with their shoes on to get all the drywall out of the sunroom (where it was stored) (also I had just had the carpets professionally cleaned 3 months prior). They cut all the drywall in the sun room and left chunks and crumbles of it in the carpet, then once they started mudding we found mud in the carpet, on some of our kitchen cabinets, and on our front door. They only put up a plastic curtain over the doorway once they started sanding but they really should have done that from the start. I had to have 4 family members come over to help me clean up all the dust that had gotten everywhere in the house! The other thing that bothered us is that they had to go buy more drywall and 10 more gallons of mud. They said that they needed to buy more drywall to finish the inside of a small closet that we had with less seams. But there was Soooo much drywall left over, chunks of stuff they could have pieced it together (it was just the inside of a closet anyways). We also witnessed them throw away over half of the mud that they (we) had bought! We didn't want to bring any of this up because the job was getting done, and we needed it to be done fast. We felt leary of the way the were wasting materials, so my husband and I went into the room after they had gone and measured every sq foot of drywall that they did. If they charged us 40 cents a square foot we came up with a total of $475. The next day they gave me the bill for $470. However they got their total a bit different than we did, they charged $60 for 2 buckets of mud (should have been more like $32) and they charged less for the hanging of the drywall (so they figured less sq ft than us.) but the price was right so I just paid them. Im not sure if I would hire them again or not to be honest. For the amount of work that they did over 4 days (they were working hard!) and only paying them just over $400, I felt kinda bad that each of them were probably only taking home $150 for the week. So as far as the price goes, I think they under charge, but as far as being neat about things they are not so good. If I hired them again next time I would be more prepared to quarantine the area off myself first and lay rugs or cardboard down where they walk. I would also have a designated sink for them to use to get water and stuff (so they wouldn't mix plaster over my kitchen sink)

It went great!!! The end results exceeded our expectations. All questions and concerns were addressed in a timely and professional manner. Project started and finished on time. Instructions were provide on how to care for the plants and lawn. After the work was complete there was a final walk through with the manager of the project. We are so happy with their work, we plan on using them next year to finish Phase II of our landscaping project. GREAT JOB GREENSKEEPERS!!!
Cole and his team did a great job! He took the time to explain everything and made sure I was able to ask questions and give input throughout the process. The driveway turned out beautifully! I would absolutely hire him again and have referred others already!
I hired Rosen Carpentry to frame out my basement remodel, adding a bathroom and bedroom to an unfinished basement. From beginning to end, Jordan was attentive and diligent to make sure the project was done to our specifications. He took the extra time to ensure he understood the plan, and it turned out exactly as I had planned. The work was done efficiently, and he was careful to keep a clean workspace. I plan to hire him again
North Star did an amazing job foaming my garage. I can immediately tell a difference on the garage holding heat. I will definitely be using them again in the future. Thanks for your amazing work!
They where professional and kept me in the loop of any changes with the project has they worked on it. Finished the project in a timely matter. I would hire them again for future projects.

Things went very well. The four-person crew was prompt, professional and and efficient. The foreman described what was going to happen and how. The concrete walkway, front step and driveway sections that had settled over time were gently lifted and leveled using a polymer foam. After the work, all of the driveway section seams were level and smooth. Very few traces of the work were left behind. We would highly recommend Badger Basement Systems
Extremely professional, courteous, and knowledgeable! Hard working, prompt, detailed, and organized. Proprietor and three installers were efficient and pleasant to deal with. Clean up was well-accomplished at the end of the job. End result is appealing to the eye and feels like a job well-done! Will heartily recommend this company for any roofing needs! I will not hesitate to hire them in the future for other home projects (such as siding, trim, and miscellaneous home renovations)
The door looks nice until you look close-up at it, then you see that the rectangular edges where the beautiful glass insert is very sloppy, so that friends looking at it ask "what is that stuff?" So if you go to ProBuild and look at the doors on display, note closely the workmanship. I noticed it and said no, I wanted higher quality, and Jon S. assured me that "Oh, those are an old display, this door here is what yours would look like". And I fell for that, but in fact our door has the same sloppy workmanship. Another problem is that it does not seal well to keep out the cold air, but maybe the guy who installed it did it wrong (but I thought a pre-hung door would fit properly in its frame!). I asked Jon to take a look and see if he could help us get it sealed, and he said he would drop by but he never did and I didn't call back to ask why not. The price was good and the customer service was great until after the door was installed. And it looks good from a distance, and on a warm spring day the leaking air around the door edges doesn't matter

What do customers in Roberts say about Repair Wall?
The experienced crew arrived on schedule and worked until it was done (several days). They encountered some issues (for example, very sandy hillside) and took the extra time and effort to ensure safety. They modified their design (lengthened the wall) to better fit the site for a modest price increase (to cover the cost of additional materials). They helped me move some excess dirt to a neighbor's yard and remove additional railroad ties from my property with their equipment, no extra charge, no complaint. The workers knew what they were doing and worked efficiently. At the same time, they interfaced well and were responsive to my interests. I couldn't be happier with the result.
