We contacted Five Star June of this year to assess our generator since they had been servicing it for several years. Our 10KW generator had to be replaced due to lightning damage so we decided to upgrade to a unit that would also run our downstairs AC as well. We were assured that a 16KW generator would work the AC plus everything the 10KW ran for an additional $4000 for a total of $7858. After at least 5 trips to our home to try and get the generator to work, the technician blew out the capacitor to our AC unit trying to get the transfer switch to accommodate both the AC and the freezer. This necessitated an emergency call to our HVAC provider. replacing the capacitor as well as the premature replacement of our AC unit. And the generator still would not work !!! The owner wanted to come to our home that day but my husband was too upset to speak with him. Subsequent calls from us to the office were not returned. Since then, we contracted with another generator company to get the generator to run only to discover the 16KW could not run the AC after all !!!! The second company also discovered several wiring mistakes that had to be corrected. And to top it off, Five Star did not obtain a permit from Spartanburg County to install the generator !!!! We have written documentation that substantiates all the above. The bottom line, the 16KW generator will not run our AC as promised despite being reassured by Five Star it would, we paid for an emergency HVAC call to fix the AC compressor, paid another generator company to get the generator to run, and had to replace our downstairs AC prematurely. On the bright side, if there is one, the technicians were professional but they were given a job that could not be done. Five Star should not be installing generators if this is an indication of their ability. We will not allow them on our property ever again and will have another company service our generator.
