**** BE WARNED****   It is very hard to know who to hire when you are doing projects in your house. I thought at first I made a good choice with this company but in the end I was very wrong. They did what they said they were going to do, put on a new roof. It looked nice when done but who knew about 2 years later part of the roof would be falling apart.   When I noticed some of the roofing had come apart I called American Contracting to have it fixed. They said it would cost about $240.00 even after only having the roof for 2 years. I decided to wait and have a few other contractors take a look. It is a good thing I did because they all said that was the worst job they have ever seen. The entire section was falling apart. The roof had completely lifted up off of the nails. I did call Don at American Contracting back and told him all of this. He had the nerve to say he would come look at it and give me an estimate. He blamed the roof falling apart on the harsh winter we had. I live in Western New York, all winters are harsh!!  It seems odd to me that the previous roof lasted 20 years through several bad winters and there was never a problem.    I feel I did get taken advantage of and would never recommend this company to anyone. I hope this review makes others think twice before hiring American Contracting.

Randy and his crew were very professional. Work was estimated to take 5 days and even with some inclement weather they completed the job in five days. We had a couple of things that came up and he willing did them without and added expense. They were very concerned about making sure everything was cleaned up (i.e. no nails in the driveway, the grass, including the neighbors yard, or flower beds. His bid was the lowest of several I received.

Initial job was completed in 2007 for a general contractor under contract for a substantial residential renovation and new-construction addition project.  All work was completed on time and in a workmanlike professional manner.  Around 2011, a leak developed in an area where water and ice had apparently backed up and penetrated the ice shield.  I called Mr. Nelson and requested a service call.  He responded immediately and looked at the problem.  I told Mr. Nelson right from the start that I understood that we were past the covered warranty period for his installation and labor and that I fully intended to pay him for his services.  He scheduled the work within a few days and they replaced  some shingles and applied some roof cement as a temporary measure. He advised that the area in question was of a poor design and that perhaps I should consult with the project architect and the general contractor to provide an alternative set-up for the shingles to work properly and as designed.  I agreed that was a good plan and we would be in touch with him.  He refused when I requested a bill for services rendered. After making contact with the GC and the architect, both the GC and I attempted to make contact with Mr. Nelson in order to ask for his input and to schedule a return after the corrections were made.  Neither the GC or I were able to get any kind of response from  Mr. Nelson.  On my third and final message, I again stressed that I understood that this fell outside of any warranty protection and that I fully expected to pay him for his services.  Again, no reply. Based on his lack of response, I would not feel comfortable in recommending Mr. Nelson or his company to anyone.  Even though the original work was completed in a satisfactory fashion, anyone providing service to the general public who wants to stay in business should have the integrity and responsibility of commitment to their customers.

Bidding: Anticipating an expensive project, I obtained 2 bids.  Each firm submitted their price along  with their proposed Scope of Work and the materials they would install in the new roof. Advance's price was $10,000 less than the other, and he doubled the thickness of insulation and he added the fireproofing board which I had requested.  The other bidder's final project would have been inferior. While normally a low price would worry me, Advance had come with excellent reviews from a Jamestown developer. I was incredibly pleased with the way the project proceeded. First, the 4 man team showed up on time on the appointed day. The demolition began; all the junk went into a dump truck at the back of the building and was driven away nightly. The men were polite, used our store restroom but put the lids down after use (!) and no leaks occurred during the demolition phase.  New materials were delivered and loaded directly onto the roof, so no mess on the site. Installation of the new roof proceeded swiftly -- the entire job was completed in the 4 days that had been estimated. It wasn't an easy roof, by the way. Our building is a composite of 3 buildings, with a pitched roof sticking up in one of the corners; making drainage difficult; former masonry columns penetrated up at one spot. Due to advice from the structural engineer, re-framing would have required a 100% removal of all framing, which I wasn't able to afford, but after completion of the roof, we have not had any leaks. We were finally able to replace our interior ceiling panels and not have to replace them each time it rained! No more stains in the light fixtures! Also, due to the added insulation, our heating and electric bills went down. The owner of Advance, Shawn Putt, is a totally decent person, responsive and responsible.  He knows his roofing and he is a good manager of his crew.  Use him with confidence!

Recent Review: I have nothing but good things to say for Three Brothers roofing, they came when they said they would, very quality work, cleaned up everyday before they were done for the day, including inside the house when they installed the sky lights.   It took them only 3 days to complete the whole job. Roof was 27' x 47' x 2 (A-Frame house). When the were done with the job you would never know they were there, except for a beautiful new roof and sky lights.
