Reviews in Warren to Repair Porch Roof

Man Of Steel General Contracting

My 84 year old grandparents hired this guy to do a roof for them. I was unaware of his unprofessional behavior until the last day of the job when I stopped to check in on the progress. The main roof was already finished and only part of the porch roof remained. They said the contractor seemed professional at first. His quote was "$11,500-12000" including clean up and cleaning out the gutters of jobsite debris as a result of the tear off. He had a long list of references. My Grandparents hired him and when he came to the house to write up the agreement, he took back his original quote and gave them a re-worded contract that was missing some things. He also took back his list of references. Then he tried to get my Grandparents to "split" the price of a dumpster with him. They refused because he initially said he would remove all debris and clean up the site after the job. His work was slow at first. He consistently showed up mid-morning and usually appeared intoxicated. He staggered around a lot and tripped over things. He and two other workers would all disappear into the small jobsite trailer together for periods of time and afterwards his staggering would be much worse. One day he had extra crew members and one of them started screaming at Marshall about being so drunk and that he would be damned if he was going to let Marshall fall and drag one of them off the roof and kill them. The roof appeared ok from the ground. On the last day 10/21/2020, one worker showed up and finished the porch roof in the rain. I stopped to inspect the finished product and saw that the gutters are full of shingle pies and pieces of wood. The gutters are overflowing and broken away from the roof in places. The porch roof is sagging and the hip caps look like a snake, the caps missed covering many of the nails. The entire porch roof is spongy and you can see the shingles squish in when you walk on it. I called Marshall and he came and fixed the caps to cover the nail heads. And agreed to clean out the gutters. Marshall was visibly intoxicated as we all observed him working. I brought up the issue of the porch roof being spongy and it visibly sags when a person walks on it. Marshall insisted that the roof had been re-sheeted and was spongy because it was " a hundred years old". I countered with the fact that he was hired to fix the roof in the first place, to which he said he was only hired to tear it off, re-sheet it and reshingle it. Today 11/1/2020 there is standing water on the roof and water is leaking through the porch roof. There gutters on the house are over flowing or leaking with shingle pieces clogging them and sticking up out of the gutter in multiple places. I called Marshall today at 11:15 Am, it took two calls. The first call he picked up and utter something incoherent, I asked "is this Man of Steel general contracting?" He made some noises and hung up. I called back immediately he answered incoherently i asked the same question twice. And he said "yep". I informed Marshall who I was, where I was, that he was hired tonput a new roof on this address, and that the porch roof had standing water on it and is leaking water out of the soffits. He uttered "I'll have to go look at it one of these mornins". Now we are stuck with a $12,000 defective roof.

I was extremely happy with Randy's work. He knew what he was doing and had some very good suggestions for the construction of my new front porch. He was the only contractor that I contacted that gave me a list of references and gave me an extremely fair estimate. All interactions with Randy and his son were very pleasant and the work was accomplished on time. I intend to do future renovations to my home and will definitely contact Randy Yanick before anyone else.

Called Robert Russo for estimate. He came immediately gave estimate. I had already had another estimate for much higher for the same work so I choose Robert and signed contract for him to do the work. I gave Robert a cash down payment and he gave me a reasonable date for the work to be done. Robert ordered the materials and they were delivered just like he said . I called to check and make sure we were on schedule for the day the work was to begin. Robert answered his phone and told me yes we were on track and work was ready to begin. Had some really bad rain which post-poned work in the middle of it for one day but he came on saturday to finish instead of waiting til monday to finish job.cleaned up all the yard and work area very nice. I have young children but no problem all was cleaned up like it was before the roof was done. Robert was relaible and very easy to work with. I love my green metal roof.Best roof around!

Frank Geiger was able to give me an estimate during first inspection of the work needed done. He and crew showed up on time everyday. They were able to get everything done in the time they had said. I even added a chimney enclosure right before they were done, And it didn't throw them for a loop! They seemed happy to do it, even if it kept them on the job site longer then planned, and then only charged me cost and $15 to install it. They were all polite, worked all day, then cleaned up everything when done. Plus most importantly my roof no longer leaks! Thanks GEIGER CONSTRUCTION!

After we signed a contract to replace my simple ranch style roof he was hard to get ahold of. So after a few months of attempts to schedule the job a small crew finally shows up and does a poor quality job. Exposed nail heads, leak prone chalking, ridge vent not properly installed, attempted to reuse the old drip edge until I spotted it, not properly repairing roof deck holes, wrong ridge vent was installed and had to be torn off and a better design installed, the furnace vent pipe was replaced with an out of code type which had to be torn off and replaced, the original two 6" diameter roof vents were removed and only papered over before the new shingles were laid, only laid 3 feet of ice guard instead of the 6 feet as part of the contract, nails everywhere around the house specially in gutters, no flashing installed around decorative stone fireplace chimney. After the job was completed before I paid the contractor the balance I showed him the areas I need repaired. He promptly came to fix the issues. But within a week after the final visit a rain storm came through the area. The roof leaked liked chalk was never applied around my fireplace chimney. I had plastic sheeting and buckets all around the chimney in the attic to stop it from damaging my ceiling. After the storm passed I inspected the chimney chalk work. There were hidden holes because the of method the worker applying the chalk used. Pushing and pulling back of the chalk gun and not smoothing out the bead afterwards. I attempted to contact the contractor immediately after the storm and left voice messages/text messages but did not receive a response for weeks. Finally we spoke and he promised to fix the repair in a few days. He never showed. After many more weeks of promise dates unmet I called another contractor to fix the chimney. Later in small claims court I found out he sub contracted the whole job to another contractor. He was losing money on the multiple visits for fixes and materials to fix their mistakes.

Recent Review: Our roof suffered some damage from a hail storm in May 2010. We were contacted by many companies offering to replace it. After much research, we chose to replace our roof with a metal product rather than traditional asphalt shingles. Although more expensive, metal roofing provides better protection and a considerably longer lifespan (basically, you'll never need to replace your roof again, barring major catastrophes). We met with and received quotes from several metal roofing companies in the area and found Bruce Hicks, owner of Distinctive Metal Roofing, to be the most personable and thorough in his explanation of the product and the process. Because of the higher cost of metal roofing, we took a considerable amount of time deciding -- Bruce was patient and responsive in answering our MANY questions! Although he was obviously selling his product and services, we never felt as if we were receiving a "high-pressure" sales pitch -- it was more like he was teaching. When work began, there were a couple of surprises revealed once the old roof was torn off. Bruce was thorough to show and explain what was discovered before suggesting options. The crew was professional and careful from the beginning to the end of the project. We were impressed that two representatives from Kassel and Irons (the product manufacturer) were present for a couple of days to check on and help with the installation. In short, everyone at Distinctive Metal Roofing was beyond helpful, explaining every step of the installation. We are very happy with the investment in our metal roof and know we have a lifetime of protection from anything the weather can throw at us. The results really are beautiful -- friends looking for our home tell us they know they have the right place because it's the best looking roof in the neighborhood. The whole process -- from sales to finish -- was actually an enjoyable experience, something we never thought we would say about installing a new roof.

Recent Review: We were extremely pleased with the entire process of having a new roof installed. Ron was very pleasant and promptly came to our house. He gave us a very fair estimate, from which he later subtracted the promised discount for mentioning Angie's List. His crew was prompt, pleasant, and professional. They worked steadily and cleaned up the surroundings not only after the first day, but after the second and final day. Everything was done to our satisfaction. We would highly recommend the company.

Recent Review: Ken was the perfect contractor. His crew was very professional and careful. He was concerned about our concerns and was always thinking about the best way to get things done. When the project grew he was reasonable with additional costs. We couldn't be happier with the job and will definitely hire him again.

Recent Review: We contacted our insurance agent.  They sent an adjuster out who told us the amount they would pay. We contacted 3 people to give us estimates. Haldeman's Construction gave us the best estimate working with the amount the insurance paid.  They gave us samples of materials and colors of roofing and told us the quality of each.  We set a date approximately 2 months from the estimate date to come do the work.  They came right on time to do the work.  They tore off the old materials and inspected the roof for other damage.  Put on the new roof materials, clean up all old materials including the roofing nails that dropped around the house.  We paid them and they left.

Recent Review: I have nothing but good things to say for Three Brothers roofing, they came when they said they would, very quality work, cleaned up everyday before they were done for the day, including inside the house when they installed the sky lights.   It took them only 3 days to complete the whole job. Roof was 27' x 47' x 2 (A-Frame house). When the were done with the job you would never know they were there, except for a beautiful new roof and sky lights.

Recent Review: The roof turned out beautiful. The point was made that the view of my house was essentially 35% roof when looking at it from the front. Making it more of a priority to improve the appearance and choose the right roofing tiles. Workers were diligent in picking up materails on a nightly basis and making sure that it looked well kept. A few nails were encountered after the job was done, but for the most part all litter and nails were picked up to insure safety and tidyness.
