Reviews in Drexel Hill to Build Carports

Bella Brothers Construction Inc

The experience started with meeting at our house where we discussed our needs and expectations for a completed carport to garage conversion. Our needs and expectations were listened to and in the end, we have a new garage that appears as though was original to the house. That was our main goal and it was met. We live in a county where permits are not an easy feat, especially with new structures/additions. Prior to calling Bella Brothers, we had hit a wall with several other companies that couldn’t get the proper permits. After being referred to Bella Brothers, Tom and his team were able to process all the proper paperwork, architectural drawings, phone calls and meetings with our county. After some serious behind the scenes work was put in, only then could the real work begin as permits were granted. They started the job during the time frame they had estimated. The men who showed up were courteous and professional. They kept the job site clean while working and after. We were excited every day to see the progress that quickly was unfolding. The job was finished in less time then they had estimated and we were thrilled. I would highly recommend Bella Brothers Construction to anybody looking to have quality, experienced work done on their home.

The 400 sq ft flat roofed addition and carport on our 1958 rancher developed multiple hidden roof leaks and we were plagued with mold and mildew. Dave and his crew did a wonderful job of demo and reconstruction of a new peaked roof addition and carport per our extensive building plans. Dave was easy to contact via phone or email whenever questions arose. He provided us with a detailed monthly construction schedule and we had weekly meetings to discuss their progress. He was very good at trouble-shooting whenever a construction problem developed and was very patient with our concerns and requests. His right-hand man, Eli is a top-notch carpenter and each of his crew was very professional and friendly. The sub-contractors he used for roofing, electrical, plumbing, and excavation were respectful of our property and did a nice job. Dave will let you know up front if there is something he cannot do and is very fair with his pricing. We highly recommend this company.

Started having problems a few months later when water came down the back wall in heavy rain.  In late 2010 the inside roof/ceiling panels popped out and the inside roof/ceiling sagged.  Since it was winter, I waited until the weather got nicer to call Jason Tete.   I spoke to Jason on 3/25/20111 and told him I was afraid the ceiling would come down and damage my car. He said he would come that day 3/25 or Monday 3/28/2011 to fix the ceiling/roof.  Jason never showed or contacted me to reschedule.    I just had the feeling after I hung up the phone after speaking to Jason that he would not keep his promise.  I emailed Jason approximately a month later to clarify that I heard him correctly that he would do the repair either 3/25 or 3/29.  His emailed response to me was he had inspected the property and would do the repair when available.  I have surveillance cameras on my property.  I checked the surveillance videos from 3/25 through 4/1 and did not see Jason or anyone from his crew stop by to inspect the problem.  I spent $5500 on that carport and feel I did not get quality workmanship.  I had to find and pay another contractor to fix Tete Brothers mistakes.  The contractor I hired to fix the problem said there was no J-strip installed to the front of the ceiling so that is why the ceiling panels could not be properly anchored.  Also, the carport was not properly leveled causing it to slope the wrong way.  In February of 2012, the city inspector told me that the carport was in violation of city code and that Jason never got a permit to build it in the first place.  I've now had to pay an additional $1150 to get the carport removed!  When I contacted Jason about this, he said he'd gotten an EZ Permit and that he didn't have any records about my project anymore!  I checked with the inspector about this, and he said there was no permit on file for my address.  He maintains that he did everything right, but I--and the city--disagree.      September 2012 - I filed suit with Small Claims Court and after mediation with an arbitrator settled for $2,000.

Landis Aluminum

Having been told that Landis was the best company in the area for this work we assumed a contract written to the previous owner of the property when we purchased the house...we waited almost 2 years for the work to be done and trusted that we could depend on these folks even after we had returned to our summer residence (this property is our winter home). The work was done while we were not here and for the most part we were satisfied, there were 3 VERY minor items that we felt should be corrected. Today two crews showed up, fixed a portion of the soffit that they said was just an oversight, cleaned up a number of areas that were soiled during the job and removed some caulking from a place where it had leaked out of the joint between two panels. I pointed out the fact that we had expected the area where this caulking was to be replaced completely, not just patched up I was informed that I was the "biggest *expletive* he'd ever encountered and my wife wasn't any better.

We are in the process but right now we absolutely love them. The owner of the company is phenomenal for us. He is a great guy. We are very very happy with him so far. We only started the foundation but we have been working with them since August so we are very very pleased. He stuck in my budget but we are still in the process I can't give or take but I gave him a number and he stuck with it so I am happy with it. The ones he sent to come and do some work were prompt and did excellent work. When the owner first came out, he was so nice.

Amish Country Sheds, LLC

We had a terrible experience with Eric Houwen, the owner of Amish Country Sheds. We were impressed with the quality when we first went to look at the sheds and started a preliminary order in person. However, we expressly discussed with Eric that we wanted to go compare some color samples to our own house before finalizing the order. He said that was no problem. Over the next two weeks, we struggled to reach him via any form of communication - phone or email or in person. He wasn't available when he said he would be and didn't respond when we left messages or emails. It was exasperating and ridiculously difficult to place an order for a nice, new shed. Finally, we did, and he confirmed via email. However, he passed along the wrong specs to the builder. When the builder came out to build on-site, he still had our original form from the first day we met Eric and built our shed to the wrong specs. We had the incorrect door style, door color, shingle color, siding color, and edging color. Basically, everything on the outside of the shed was entirely incorrect. At first, Eric admitted this was his fault when we came home to this and called him, admitting he failed to tell the builder the right information (it would have been hard to argue with written evidence) but he vehemently argued about having to do anything about it. Making all of the changes would have been long and arduous and held up other work we were having done by weeks, so we asked for only the door style to be fixed and a refund off some of the cost. This became an ongoing battle. Eric promised one thing on the phone and then sent us just about 10% of that total via check nearly two weeks later after near-daily hassling of him. He continually lied and said the check was in the mail. He never ended up giving us the full credit we discussed. We ended up with half of it and gave up on the process after weeks of attempts to reason him. During this entire process, he was rude, condescending, and insulting. He was the opposite of professional. I still rate the shed itself as a good quality one, but it is simply not at all what we wanted nor ordered - and the entire experience was absolutely miserable.
