Smoky Mountain Home Inspections

Hugh did a very thorough job of not only inspecting our house-to-be, but also explaining what he saw as he went. He made sure we understood each issue and how we could fix it or who we could contact to fix it. I was very impressed with his ability to relay information so we could understand what he was talking about without making us feel stupid. We received our results for both the radon test and the inspection quickly. Unfortunately, the radon test came back elevated, but because the homeowner entered the home after it started and did some work to the house, the test was skewed. Hugh came back out and did another test for us, which showed consistently high levels. Hugh provided us with the information we needed to make a decision about the radon levels and who to contact to best mitigate the house. If we ever buy a house again, we would definitely use Hugh and I would recommend him to anyone who needs an honest, thorough, informative home inspection.

Lisa was extremely professional throughout and it became clear early in our phone discussions that she is a very well organized individual with extensive project management skills.... On the day of the inspection, she arrived on time and most important to me, she had the report written the same day and in my possession via email. A few days later I had the full report delivered to my home via fedex in a well constructed binder. I have called Lisa a couple of times since the original inspection to get her interpretation of the work we have begun since buying the property to address the minor findings represented in her report and in each case she has provided additional (and immediate) support. I consider Lisa a trusted advisor in this regard as we have never previously purchased a home at high elevation or in such a remote area. Her experience was unquestionably critical to us in making such an important financial decision so I would recommend her to anyone without reservation!

Dave Park was very responsive and informative. He provided a detail report, outlined all issues, and even offered some advice on what to do regarding one of the wells that turned up having some bacteria in it. He was on time, provided a complete estimate prior to service and did everything he said he would do! I would definitely use Advantage Home Inspection Again in the future. Especially since they are a full-service provider. I was able to go to them as a and quot;one-stop shopand quot; and he advised us when there was something he couldn't do (like test a water softener system). We were very okay with everything. And, he met our deadline!

I was in a pinch to get a home inspection, and at first tried an inspector from Wilkes that had done one previously and had impressed me. Due to scheduling and finding Mr. Alstad in the area, I gave him a call. He was willing to come out on a Saturday, helped me find the way to turn on house water, crawled through the underneath, scaled the attic, gave EXTENSIVE descriptions and pictures, along with recommendations of all professionals appropriate to address the various issues he found. Mr. Alstad was a thorough, professional, and all around delightful person to work with. I did not have reason or opportunity to use his services for radon detection, but I can only imagine the same level of professionalism in this aspect of his work.

Recent Review: Very professional and trustworthy workers. They were very personable, down to earth and nice to deal with. With regard to price, considering my other options; I only talked to people on the phone and no one came out. Overall, their price is okay.

Recent Review: The work was done well; however, the project was off schedule. Instead arriving on the appointed date with a crew of 4 for a 3-day job, the project manager arrived one day late with no crew. Even a week later, materials had not arrived, and only on days 7 and 8 were there more than one person on the job. So basically a big truck blocked my driveway for over a week. It may have been my error, but I thought after conversations with the sales person that this was a turnkey job; however, I was informed that I will have to hire an electrician to wire a fan they left. That part won't happen until next week. Only then will I see the full benefit of the work.

Recent Review: Terry was very professional and kept me informed on what was going to take place. He was very thorough and paid close attention to every detail. He made sure there were no tree roots or limb debris dumped into the hole that was filled in from the tank removal. He paid close attention to not damage any tree limbs as he worked his way around several large trees that were very close to the dig location. He had his crew rake and smooth the tire tracks from the grassy areas after he had completed the work and removed the heavy equipment. I was very impressed with his concern on leaving the property in good shape when the job was completed. Only concern was when Terry was late for the first meeting for the initial estimate. He also had to reschedule the actual planned work day but that was okay because he let me well in advance so I could adjust my plans. I would highly recommend Terry-Lynn LLC . Terry Miller is very knowledgeable and certified in his field. He always responded to my calls, or texts in a timely manner. His services are warranted and guaranteed. Thanks Terry for your professional service, Robin Claver 320 Tatum Rd. Olin, NC 28660

Recent Review: When I arrived he walked me through every part of the house and discussed what he found, how much it would cost to repair and whether he thought it was worth it. He was able to provide estimates on repairs. He was happy to stay and discuss everything as long as we wanted and said he would be able to answer any questions we had after we moved in because he had the pictures and the report. He then gave me the disc with the pictures and report and then emailed me the report. He left the radon test in the home and then emailed me when the result came back two days later. The radon test is an extra $175 but totally worth it. Radon can cause cancer and it can be expensive to ventilate the basement. Have the test done if it comes back with Radon negotiate the cost of ventilation with the sellers.

Recent Review: $ In selling our residence, the buyer contracted and paid for a radon test. The test came in very high levels in our basement. I called three firms. I did research and found that there are only four radon testing/remediation individuals in the Triangle area who have national accreditation. One of the individuals I contacted was Randy Paquette of First Choice Rand R, one of the four individuals with the accreditation. Randy came out the next morning and quickly noted that the initial test was probably flawed by excessive rain, which affects the radon level. He conducted a second test and found that the radon level was about 50% of the initial test. He explained the testing and showed me the readings from the monitor. Even so, the test results were still above acceptable levels. He provided excellent remediation service for $1,250, which was less than the quote of $1,400 for the buyer's firm. Randy's price includes both the initial test and a follow-up test (after installation of the remediation). Further, he provides full written report and a five-year warranty transferable (at no cost) to the new owner. The other two firms (not certified) contacted me three days after I called and 7 days after I called. I highly recommend Mr. Paquette for his professionalism and responsiveness.

Recent Review: Absolutely first rate!!! Honest, candid, and supremely professional. Fantastic communications—both in the oral report and the incredibly detailed written report. Not simply pointing out issues but offering in depth recommendations for fixes. When Hugh said he’d inspect the new house we just bought as if it was for himself or his parents, it wasn’t just salesmanship “happy talk” or empty promises. The thoroughness of the inspection is eye popping! The entire process was painless, seamless, and smooth as silk. We’re very confident in the quality of the inspection and recommend Smoky Mountain Home Inspections wholeheartedly. One of the very best professionals we ever dealt with, in any area. If a ten star rating was an option, it would be fully deserved. Thank you! Dr Lani Kass

Recent Review: The installer was professional, courteous, listened to my preference for system location and completed the job as I expected. I opted for the more expensive approach to vent the radon mitigation system through the roof vs. side of the house to hide the white PVC pipe and noise of fan. My only concern was related to the number of "pits" they estimated vs. actual required. They try to upsell you on the number of pits but if they determine you need less they pocket the revenue. If you select less pits and they determine you need more it turns out to be more expensive than if you opted for more pits in the beginning. To be fair this was explained but I was a bit suspect of this business practice. Overall, I would recommend even though a bit pricey, they are very professional and do the job right the first time.

Recent Review: The Home Inspector was remarkably thorough and spent about 5 hours inspecting the home. John was very helpful and provided lots of useful information. The inspection did include all crawl spaces, the attic, and the roof as well. He didn't just do a visual inspection from a distance: he got in/on everything. The report after the inspection was incredibly detailed and included photos and sketches. I would highly recommend The Home Inspector!
