Reviews in Elgin to Remodel Master Bedroom

Elias Construction LLC
Excellent job . Remodel was timely and on budget. Subcontractors were top notch and worked well with us. We had used Elias Construction before for a complete kitchen remodel and was so impressed that we contacted them for a bathroom remodel.

New Directions Flooring
New Directions was the high point in an otherwise stressful remodel. If all subcontractors offered the service and attention to detail that New Directions does, home renovations would be a breeze. We plan to use them again on an upcoming remodel for a newly purchased home.

Jim Siebenaler Construction
Jim is awesome!! I picked him out of the blue from Angie's list, and thankfully so, as we were very pleased with his work, and the cost was reasonable. He's dependable, patient, professional, and holds to his word on "lifetime guarantee" -- after a year, the original work needed some updating and Jim took care of just as he had promised. I have no hesitation in highly recommending Jim. Our bathroom looks great thanks to Jim!

Very well. Nick spent time with us , gave us some options and ideas. We ended up changing our minds on some things but I would hire him if we have any future projects.

Jim Siebenaler Construction
Jim Siebenaler Construction is absolutely the best!  This is the second large project Jim has done for us.  He previously replaced our front porch.  This time, we gutted the  main floor bathroom. Jim is reliable, professional, a perfectionist about his work, a good listener, and does everything in his power to please the customer.  Jim and his crew installed new walls, tub, toilet, vanity, fixtures, plumbing, electrical, lighting, tile floor, subway tile shower stall, subway tile up to chair rail height, and  a custom shower door.  Everyone who worked on the bathroom was top-notch. The entire process took less than two weeks! The space is small, but Jim created a beautiful built-in shelf that is made of subway tile and glass shelves.  There is a white subway tiled shower stall (tub to ceiling)  with two lines of black pencil tile accent that is one of my favorite touches  in the room along with the built-in shelves.  Jim and his crew turned a worn-out bathroom  that had a stained tub surround, no fixed shower, and peeling wallpaper into a spa-like room that has an Art Deco feel.  The new bathroom matches our 1920's house perfectly. We highly recommend Jim Siebenaler Construction.

Jim Siebenaler Construction
I had a great experience.  Jim is personable, honest, and does very professional work.  The finished bathroom exceeded my expectations.  Even though bathroom remodels are messy and noisy, Jim went out of his way to keep the disruption to a minimum.  I also appreciated how well-informed he kept me throughout the process.

Hagen & Associates Construction
The price was way over what he estimated.  It turned out beautifully, but I wasn't happy because he didn't get the work done by the deadline.  The work was good, but it wasn't done when I needed it done.  The cost was $1,500 more than what he said it would be.  He didn't give me a correct estimate.  He didn't get it done because he was so busy doing other jobs.  The workmanship was beautiful; I'm very satisfied with that.  I had company coming, and I wanted him to get it done a couple days before my company came, so I could clean up the dust and dirt.  He got it done four hours before my company came.

This was my first remodeling project as an investor, so I paid almost 55% of the total quote upfront. I didn't even had the properly written contract, I just believed his words. They kept making excuses to delay the project. I was afraid that he might leave the project in the middle, so kept taking his excuses. But when I realized that my project is not moving, I threatened to sue them then they wrote another contract with end date. They did finished the contract almost close to the date in the new contract though. They just did lousy job of hiding problems rather than fixing it. At many occasions, I had to point out at things that they did incorrectly. At the end of the project, they were putting lot of pressure on me to pay off the remaining money without finishing there work completely. For washer dryer they did not provide drain & electric outlet, I came to know about this through realtor when I put the house for sail. For the new bathroom sink, he drained it to some old gas pipeline. I had to loose one buyers contract due to these problem & had to pay extra to fix these problems.

Recent Review: Crowdsourcing site for interior and architectural design. Interesting service and if you are comfortable with internet shopping and a little risk, IMHO, worth the cost.  My project:   Redesigning kitchen and family room (great room concept) and we needed interior design/style advise for the project. The site posts a "competition" for the project, you determine what amount of money to offer for the competition (site recommends an amount, but the customer is free to change if needed.) Within 20 days, we had 20 designers signed up for our competition from all over the world. In the end, 8 designers submitted designs. We picked our top 4, rated all designs and the top three were selected based on ratings -- one from France, USA and Serbia. Honorable Mention went to country of Georgia. First, second and third place received a portion of the award money.   Pros and Cons:  You, the customer, must be comfortable with the risk of paying for something and not knowing if you'll like the result. For me, this was part of the process and an acceptable risk.  You don't have a face to face consultation. The site has a "wall" where you can post ideas, photos, communication with the designers or architects. I resolved this by posting my houzz.com design book on the wall to give designers ideas of our likes, dislikes, etc. You can also post requirements and constraints for your project. Toward the end of the competition (a deadline is set when you submit a project) a lot of communication occurs with the architects and designers. Expect it, it's part of the process.  The website is fairly rudimentary. Online/chat help is available but is somewhat hit and miss.  You can send designs to friends and family to rate. This is helpful in making a decision.  Overall, we got a number of ideas between the designers and were very pleased with the process and project.

Recent Review: I had some issues with them.  Things got messed up because one of the people who came didn't put my order in. So it took a extra couple months before I could have it started. It was then right before Christmas. It was just difficult. It took 5 months to get it started, and it shouldn't have taken that long. According to them even. I thought the prices was a bit high, but I didn't get a lot of estimates. I looked at where they were from and what they were doing, but I could have been more diligent in my process. Once we got it all started it was good. I had some real good responses from people. I might consider them, but I would get more estimates. The last job I had done I had 4 estimates so that helped a lot.

Recent Review: Justin has been the life saver of our recent 2 bathroom remodel. This remodel was an unexpected surprise to us - one we are having to pay cash for instead of the home loan we were planning on taking in 2014. After several extremely high bids from other general contractors we settle for a recommendation that ended up flaking on us, leaving our project in limbo for several weeks. We eventually tackled the demo and the first phase of the project on our own. Thankfully, we have a couple tradesmen that we've come to love and trust dearly. Justin was brought into the project by the recommendation of our plumber - and thank goodness too. He has worked at our place nonstop for 2 weeks, putting together all of our broken pieces. He isn't the general contractor that subs out the work - nope he does it all himself. Installing windows, framework, sub floor, insulation, building design, walls etc. He has been our saving grace and our project would have never been completed, or done correctly without him. He has our best interest in mind and has caught a lot of mistakes that he could've let slide - but instead has integrity and brought them to our attention - and then went on to fix them before sealing up the floors, walls etc. He continues to go above and beyond for us. He is always on time. He is always affordable. He is always honest. I'm so glad we have more projects in this house - because I look forward to keeping him around. He'll be the first person we ask before starting any project!!
