Erik installed the radon inspection device, but our builder brought in painters to do work on the house. The painters worked inside with doors and windows open and then left for the day with doors wide open. When I called Erik to say this would negate the test, he graciously said he would come back a week later to re-install the radon testing machine and re-do the test at no cost.

Jim was punctual, friendly, and was happy to answer questions. Unfortunately, I had also scheduled the sewer scope/plumber at the same time and found myself split between the two. I was unable to follow Jim through the inspection which I would have liked to do.

After performing a radon air test in the unfinished side of our basement and getting a result of 6.6 pCi/L, we performed a second test. This time we tested on the finished side of our basement and used another lab and a different testing method. The results from the second test were 8.3 pCi/L and 8.4 pCi/L. Therefore, we decided to have a radon air mitigation system installed. I contacted and met with four radon air mitigation contractors and did a lot of online research before deciding to go with Steve Daigle and Radon Done Right, LLC (whose website was extremely helpful). From the initial consultation until the follow-up with the results from the post-installation radon air test, Steve's no-nonsense, professional, and respectful approach as well as the frequency of his communication made the unplanned expenditure much more pleasant. During our initial meeting, Steve thoroughly evaluated our home, identified concerns, and offered recommendations to ensure that the mitigation system would be the most effective. Following the consultation, he promptly emailed me an estimate and contract that explained exactly what he proposed to do as well as when and how he would do it. I did not have to sign the contract until the installation date, so I had plenty of time to review it and ask any questions beforehand. Regarding the cost, as compared to the other estimates, it was slightly higher than one of them, but significantly lower than the other two. The evening before the installation, Steve emailed me to remind me that he would be coming at the time stated in the estimate/contract document. He arrived on time and worked until the job was complete, pleasantly and calmly explaining what he was doing whenever I inquired. Once he had completed the installation, again he reviewed with me everything that had been done and provided a post-installation radon air test kit and comprehensive document containing frequently asked questions. I performed the post-installation test and the results were .4 pCi/L. Steve promptly forwarded a copy of the lab's report to me noting the favorable results. If spending money on an unanticipated home maintenance expense can ever be considered a pleasure, working with Steve and Radon Done Right, LLC would definitely qualify. As a long-time homeowner who has outsourced my share of home repairs, it was refreshing to work with a true professional. Steve had a way of balancing the necessary business-side aspects of the job with the personal, trust-building relationship-side aspects of the job. We are truly grateful and would highly recommend Steve Daigle and Radon Done Right, LLC for any radon mitigation needs you may have.

Short-term and long-term radon tests in the basement yielded readings of 5.6 and 5.1. Steve Daigle did an initial inspection and developed a sub-slab depressurization system to reduce the high radon level in the soil beneath the basement. The price for the system was fair - around the lower end of the averages. Steve did the work himself, except for the wiring of the fan motor to the house electrical system. The job took about 5 hours and went very smoothly. Three holes had to be made - one in the basement floor, one through the sill wall into the garage and one through the roof of the garage. All of the work was very clean and all debris was taken away. Steve was always checking to see if there were any questions before, during and after the installation and provided timely replies to any questions or issues. He also did the paperwork for the electrical permit. I was very pleased with Steve's work and the best part is that the post-mitigation radon test was a level of .5 - that's point five.

They helped us determine a good location for the radon mitigation system in our completely finished basement. Install went well, they cleaned up everything, and explained all paperwork. No complaints.

AIR & WATER QUALITY
5.0
AWQ are real pros. The radon system that had been installed by Aqua-max for the previous owner was described as very poor by the pre-purchase inspector. I called in AWQ to consult. They told me that I did not need a radon reduction system for air and that I could live with the radon water system if I didn't want the expense of replacing it. They provided an estimate for the arsenic system and installed it on time. They have been wonderfully responsive when I had questions, including helping me with things that turned out to have nothing to do with the arsenic system (failure of the well pump, for instance). I wouldn't use anyone else. Above all, STAY AWAY FROM AQUA-MAX!!!

The actual installation went smoothly. This installation was done on a new home purchase. There had been some confusion involved because the two realtors also communicated with the installation company. They weren't quite sure who they were installing for but it all ended up fine in the end. The estimate was done by one person and the installation by another. Unfortunately they didn't seem to agree on the type of system we needed installed. We went with the original system and it seems to be working well.

This is the 2nd home inspection we've gone through with Bob. He responded to my e-mail to schedule this inspection within minutes. He is busy, but was able to schedule us within a few days. Bob has some cool gadgets that he uses during the inspection -- like a scanner that can detect heat loss in walls & roof or hidden water leaks. He provided us with good advice on what our major concerns should be (and which things were ok to leave be) and suggested some additional inspections from specialists. For our inspection, we also had him do a radon test, which was simple. He made arrangements on his own with the listing agent or owner to pick up the vials and the results are ready a week later. Bob provided us with a color report full of photos and clear recommendations, such as "Repair" or "Monitor" or "Safety Issue." We also get a copy on CD. As a bonus, he's a friendly person!

SAFE WATER

The system he installed was extremely noisy. This was noise from the pipes banging and in the manual it said that this should not happen and that there was a way to correct it. Sean, however, said this was normal. He was supposed to test our radon levels, but we never received an actual report from the company he used. When we called these companies they said that they had never tested with him before. We finally just tested it ourselves at our own expense. We kept calling Sean and a woman always answered with a new excuse every time as to why he wasn't there and he only called us back 1 time. We finally gave up. Sean wouldn't back up anything he'd done. We have talked to the state of Maine about this also. I would never use him again. Don't use him.

Recent Review: What we loved most about Hank was that he explained what he was seeing as he went through the inspection. We asked lots of questions and he gave us his expert opinion. He made us feel very comfortable asking, and took enough time to ensure we understood. It was a very cold and snowy day, but Hank went out to examine as much of the exterior house as he could through the accumulation. We walked away feeling as if we knew what condition the house was in by the time we left that day. Hank then proceeded to write a report with pictures and describing what he observed, then offered recommendations and the rationale to support his comments. The report was thorough and will provide a great reference document for the future as well. It's the first time I've ever felt that the inspector provided information and an experience worth the price. I would use this company again.

Recent Review: I give Jeff Campbell five stars in every respect. He was prompt, respectful, reasonable, honest and thorough. He issued the inspection report within a couple of days, and he was accessible and responsive when we had some follow-up questions. The house we purchased was more than 100 years old, and there was a lot to do, but he didn't miss anything. Jeff is a good guy and I highly recommend him.

Recent Review: We needed to have this job completed in a timely way since it is a condition of the sale of the house. We contacted the company about a week and a half before the job was done. Initially their schedule would have allowed the work be done in about 3 weeks. However, just a week later they had a cancellation and were able to complete the job sooner. It took the a day and a half to prepare the house with all the needed protections for the workers and our property and the complete the job and clean up afterward. The protective set up was completed without damage to our house, this is a consideration since a complete enclosure was built in the kitchen to allow access to the basement while keeping any contamination enclosed. When the work was done the house was in the same condition as when the work began. No scraps, no mess, clean and neat. Each time we met with staff from the company they were on time, courteous, and answered all of our questions completely in ways we understood. The staff member that we dealt with on the phone to make arrangements and address questions was consummately professional and pleasant. When she was not available one of the two owners answered calls and was, like wise, helpful and professional. Paper work confirming the completion of the work was in our hands within days. A complete explanation of the rest of the process, encasement of debris, delivery of this material at a storage site and the necessary paper work that will remain at the house was thorough and well explained.

Recent Review: They originally installed a reverse osmosis water filtration system. It pushes the water through these microfilm filters. We have well water so we high arsenic levels in our well. They do it once a year. We've had to have them come out on a weekend and service, that is about $100. This time it was expensive. It was a major replacement. They're expensive but they're the only ones in the area that do what they do.

Recent Review: Dan performed air testing for Radon, and water testing for a wide variety of possible contaminants as part of pre-purchase building inspection. Responsiveness was fabulous, results were quick and very easy to understand, including very clear information on what the various EPA limits are for each item. The realtor said he's the best provider of this service he's ever seen, and he's been in the business for at least 10 years.

Recent Review: Excellent, this is the third time we have used Cornell & Assoc. Last time they saved us from a potentially really bad situation.
