Opinion about how important and how difficult it is to reduce radon levels is divided. Radon Environmental provided a bid based on information I gave over the telephone about the year of the house's construction, construction type etc. I hesitated to accept a bid from someone who had not actually seen the house. But other contractors I contacted provided higher bids and offered no guarantee. So eventually after speaking with several realtors who assured me that the process was relatively uncomplicated, pumping air from the area beneath the foundation out of the house, I decided to go with Radon Environmental. I was extremely pleased with the mitigator, Chris Jordan, who is certified by the National Radon Proficiency Program (NRPP) http://www.nrpp.info/. Chris advised us on how to proceed and cared about our long term expenses. Once he got working, Chris was efficient and neat; I note, too, that he is officially licensed by the state of Indiana ( http://www.in.gov/isdh/files/1_Radon_Mitigators_List.pdf). Chris's credentials were another important factor in my decision to go with Mike Brenneman and Radon Environmental. Unfortunately, the first attempt at remediation did not lower radon levels sufficiently; they came in at 4pCi/L, and the EPA recomends a level below that number. I was very impressed that Mr. Brenneman took the initiative in honoring his guarantee and did so promptly. As he noted the World Health Organization recommends a number below 2.7. But we were quite happy with 3. I only have one serious reservation about dealing with Radon Environmental and that has to do with the contract he sends out. I always follow the procedure recommended by Angie's list and never pay the full amount agreed "until the job is completed to [my] satisfaction." Angie's list recommends at least 10%; I often go for 50%; in this case about 33%. Mr. Brenneman [1] asks for payment in full prior to the start of the job, and contrary to the recommendations for Radon contractors specifically, [2] he does not automatically provided customers with test results certified directly by an independent laboratory. The second problem is minor; Brenneman uses a reputable local lab (Microair) and all you have to do is to ask for the results to be emailed directly to you. The first problem is potentially major. When the expenditure is often quite high ($1000), nobody should find themselves without leverage in the event of a disagreement about whether the work is satisfactory. Be careful, protect yourself, even when dealing with a reputable business like Radon Environmental. To summarize: Indiana is a state where lots of people in many homes are exposed to dangerous radon levels, as you can tell from the map: http://www.epa.gov/radon/zonemap.html#mapcolors What's more there are not a lot of licensed mitigators, and there isn't much reliable information out there, so we're lucky to have businesses like Radon Environmental and places to share information like Angie's List.

Mike the owner is very responsive and took his time to find out what I needed and explained to me how the system worked. After our first conversation, he sent me the proposal along with a step by step explanation of how the install would look. After I hired Radon Environmental, Mike called me and set up a time and told me that Scott would be my installer. Scott was also excellent. He went above and beyond. He not only took his time to explain the entire process to me, he helped me find a way to make the system I wanted to work. I wanted internal piping with the fan in the attic. It was a lot of extra work. I was having a new roof installed and wanted to have the Radon system installed first. Scott installed the system and then came back the day my roof was being installed to finish the attic install and piping through the roof. I was also concerned about the noise and he recommended a muffler for the fan. I would recommend Radon Environmental to anyone who needs a Radon mitigation system. They are excellent and go above and beyond to make the customer happy.

Overall, went very well. They worked to find best location for running vent pipes etc. The before/after numbers were quite good in terms of lowering radon measurement to well below picoCuries per liter.

I appreciated the attention to detail in the report. I also appreciated the education about the various systems in the house. He was familiar with re-circulating water heaters, anti-microbial linings on heating ducts, types of roofing shingles, various types of solid surface countertops, etc. The report was expensive though.

SWAT installed a radon mitigation system in our house as we are selling it and the buyers requested this after inspection. I had trouble getting in touch with other companies to provide the service and the other bids I had were much higher. SWAT answered their phone right away, gave me a quote on the phone (which was the exact amount I was charged) and scheduled to come out at my earliest convenience. The technician called when he was about half an hour away to let me know he would be there soon. He was courteous the whole time he was there. The only downside was that the installation took a long time, but that seems to be because of the dirt under our foundation that was difficult to dig through. They spent all day working on installing the system at no extra charge for the added hours. Also, I should note the price we paid included installation of the system and laying plastic sheeting over about 200 square feet of dirt crawl space. In my quote they said they would beat any competitors quote and with the great service we received, I would highly recommend this company to anyone needing to put in a radon mitigation system.

Mark is that rare service provider who does exactly what he said he would do - something we always expect, but rarely get. He was responsive to email inquiries, was specific and clear about his time and commitment, provided explicit description of the work he would do and was early for the appointment to do the work. He was also very generous with his time in explaining not only the what, but why it was important, how it got that way, what we could do to keep it from going bad and what we ought to do to maintain it in future. In short, we got an inspection and also an education in keeping a house in good order. If you know anything, you will appreciate his attention to detail. If you don't know anything about houses or systems in houses, you need Mark even more.

Damon, the installation technician, called before his scheduled arrival time to report that due to weather he would be about an hour late. This was not any problem. He showed up as scheduled. He did an excellent job with the installation. Answered all my questions completely. He was very professional. He did an excellent job cleaning up after the installation. I am very pleased with the entire installation and process.

He is very thorough, but is quite expensive. I would not recommend him for a newer house that is not likely to have many problems.

They did a great job. They were done in a half day. They offer a lifetime guarantee -- if I have a problem in the future, they'll come back and fix it.

Went well - radon level mitigated with the first attempt. We were warned that since it was an old house (built 1937), they did not know of the structure of the foundation under the concrete slab so that a single suction point may not have been adequate. However, the single point worked fine.

When it comes to home inspections, Mark's is more like an interrogation. He put the house on the witness stand and ruthlessly cross-examined it until it gave up every secret and broke down sobbing. Inside and out, top to bottom, on the roof and in the crawl space - he didn't miss anything. Mark explains and teaches, suggests and advises, and thoroughly answers any questions. He provides a detailed and very thorough report that clearly separates the major issues from the minor annoyances. We bought the house, made several major repairs he suggested, and found even the hidden problems exactly as he predicted. Since then we've contacted him several times for advice and questions, and he has always been extremely helpful. We couldn't have been more satisfied. He is well worth every penny.

It went really well. They were very understanding of the way I wanted to piping routed to minimize the noise that we'd hear from the radon fan inside the house. They were very professional and took care to make the visible parts of installation neat and clean. I enjoyed working with them and would hire them again.

TIM HINOJOSA DID A WONDERFUL JOB FOR ME! HE IS COURTEOUS, KNOWLEDGEABLE, PUNCTUAL, PROMPT, AND POLITE. HE KEPT ME INFORMED OF WHAT HE WAS DOING AND ACTUALLY INVITED ME TO WATCH BEFORE I HAD TO ASK IF I COULD. HE GAVE ME A CHOICE ABOUT WHERE THE PIPE WOULD EXIT THE ROOF. THE EASIEST THING FOR HIM WOULD HAVE BEEN TO JUST SEND THE PIPE STRAIGHT UP, BUT THAT WOULD HAVE PLACED THE PIPE IN THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE. INSTEAD, HE WORKED TO PLACE THE EXIT ON THE BACK OF THE HOUSE WHERE I FELT IT WAS MORE AESTHETICALLY PLEASING. HE TREATED MY HOME AS IF IT WERE HIS OWN AND CLEANED UP FROM THE PROJECT WELL. THE RADON TEST INDICATED THAT MY LEVELS CAME DOWN TO AN AVERAGE OF ONLY 2.5. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND RADON TECHNOLOGY COMPANY. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THIS BUSINESS DESERVES ITS ANGIE'S LIST SUPER SERVICE AWARD!

We are very happy with his work. First, we really appreciated him for inspecting only a few days after we contacted him by altering his original schedule to meet a deadline we had. He spent almost 4 hr for his inspection. His report not only described details but also was easy to understand why and when we need to take care of things he found, using color marks. This is our third time to purchase a house, so we knew that inspector?s report can be either hard to follow with many special terms or less detailed (or both) and found that his report was very impressive in comparison to others we saw in past. Moreover, he repeatedly suggested us contact him if we have a question anytime in future, which we also appreciate since we would like to fix things over years. We highly recommend him. Thank you, Mark!

Recent Review: Chris was everything we needed for our home inspection. We are first time home buyers, getting into a tiny 900 sq ft project home. He helped us go in with eyes wide open. We asked tons of questions, which undoubtedly slowed him down, but he answered knowledgeably and patiently. There were so many reportable items on the home (issues he'd include in his report), that he did not have time to build the report as he went, which is usually his practice. This, however, did not effect the timeliness of his report or the thoroughness of his inspection. He even contacted us later with an item he had forgotten to include, which we would have never thought of ourselves. That kind of honesty and integrity is much deserving of respect. His report was not exhaustively long, just right at 17 pages with clear notes and pictures. He took 3 hours to do the inspection (but had to spend personal time completing the report, as mentioned above), which was the time he estimated it would take. His price was more competitive than other companies, presumably because of low overhead. We were very impressed by his inspection and very appreciative of his manner and enthusiasm, even for a dinky little home like ours.

Recent Review: The inspection went well. Ron Jackson did a really good job at providing us with a detailed report that pointed to areas we needed to be aware of regarding the condition of the house we are considering to buy. During the inspection he gave us information about potential problems, possible causes and ways to rectify some of the problem areas. He was punctual and responsive to our concerns.

Recent Review: I waited a few months after the inspection to write the review, just in case problems that were not found during the inspection came out. There has been none so far. Mark inspected our first house. I think he did a terrific job and is very responsible and professional. 1. The report is very clear and more like a useful handbook for first-home buyers like me and my husband. It was particularly useful for us because we were not present for the inspection. 2. I feel that Mark really cares about his customers. Because of our absence during inspection, Mark spent almost an hour to go over all details in his report with me over the phone and answered all my naive questions. Even after we moved in, I called Mark about a water stain on the ceiling. He came in with all tools, did the measurement, and assured us that it was nothing to worry about. Overall, I would choose Mark again for my future house inspections. His price is higher than average home inspections, but I think you get what you pay for.

What do customers in Jasonville say about Mitigate Radon?

WE HAD A RADON TEST PRIOR TO LISTING OUR HOUSE FOR SALE. WE HAD A RADON LEVEL SLIGHTLY ABOVE ''ACCEPTABLE''. AFFORDABLE RADON PROVIDED A PROMPT ESTIMATE AND EXPLANATION OF THE MITIGATION PROCESS. THEY SCHEDULED THE WORK PROMPTLY. I WAS VERY IMPRESSED BY THE INSTALLATION TEAM. THEY WORKED QUICKLY AND EFFICIENTLY. THEY OFFER A WARRANTY ON THE WORK AND OFFERED TO COME BACK IF THE BUYER REQUESTS ADDITIONAL PIPE EXTENSION.
