Custom Concrete Resurfacing

Removal of the section of the back patio to be replaced required saw cutting of the concrete and providing temporary support of the patio roof above the supports where the concrete was to be replaced. The work crew and I discussed the saw cutting prior to the work, and accomplished it as I desired. The temporary support of the patio roof was accomplished with minimal impact on the existing patio roof support structure. Breaking up of the existing concrete to be replaced was accomplished using a jackhammer and sledge hammers. The crew was able to provide the existing patio dimensions even though access was somewhat difficult due to the bushes that had grown up since the original patio placement. A crushed rock base was placed prior to the concrete placement. A motorized concrete "hauler" was used to transport the concrete from the delivery truck to the back patio. That worked effectively even though some awkward maneuvering of the hauler was required. An additional 8 to 10 inches of concrete was placed beneath the spots where the patio roof supports were to be reinstalled. The existing driveway concrete was broken up for removal mostly by jackhammer, but with some sledge hammer use. The new driveway was formed to the same dimensions as the original, and with minimal impact on the existing lawn and sprinkler systems. I was easily able to replace removed sod and sprinklers. A crushed rock base was placed prior to concrete placement. The new concrete was placed in 3 segments--the driveway left side, the driveway right side and the sidewalk/street approach. The work crew was knowledgeable in the special requirements of the city of Idaho Falls for the sidewalk and street approach. There were no difficulties with the inspection required. The contractor was thorough in removal and disposal of all construction debris. The final concrete surface finish has a slight repetitive "swirl" that we consider attractive. The work crew was on site and working every day and were punctual. I did provide access to a bathroom in our basement for their use. They were careful in their use. The construction time for back patio and driveway was about 2 weeks. Communication with the contractor and the work crew was cordial and useful. Drive by and inspect our new driveway.

We had the pleasure of working with Mike and his crew today. We reached out to him about a month ago for a patio and some sidewalk. He respond quickly and with a very competitive estimate. He was upfront about how far out he was with his schedule and showed up exactly within the timeframe he promised. Both he and his crew were friendly, polite, professional and hardworking. I love that he took our design ideas to heart and made some incredible suggestions that turned a simple concrete slab into a work of art. Not only did our patio turn out gorgeous but it will definitively be the focal point of our new backyard. The quality of his workmanship is top of the line. And to top it all off my yard was immaculate when they left. Looking forward to working with Mike and his crew again in the near future.

His price was good. He was punctual and persistent. The building department was backed up, but he kept on them. It was installed on an old home and it had some challenges due to its age, but he did a great job.833

Mike Carlson, the owner, provided good suggestions and laid out in detail how the job would be done. His crew was punctual and professional. They make sure the job is done correctly without shorcuts. I have full confidence that the concrete work they performed will hold up. The used iron where needed for support, especially where tying in to an adjacent foundation wall was required. I have built several homes over the past 20 years and have never been satisfied with the concrete contractors, until now! I highly recommend Carlson Custom Concrete.

We initially contacted Jerry Stuart of J & J Construction for help with removal of our 3 tree stumps. In getting an estimate for that we found out the he did many other types of work. We asked him for an estimate for replacing our patio door (form the house), fixing our cracking patio and an RV pad. In walking around, Jerry pointed out that our roof line was sagging due to an improperly installed post and discussed with us what we could do to fix it. Needless to say our initial bid for removal of tree stumps soon blossomed into a full blown project. Jerry was very good about discussing our options and very flexible in accommodating our needs. Together we came up with a plan and work began the next day!! Work began on October 20, 2012 and despite weather delays and additional work we added, we were completed by November 13, 2012. Jerry and his team are extremely hard workers and have an incredible attention to detail. The work that they completed for us is even better than I could have imagined. It was fun working with them in coming up with ideas on some of the finish work. I really appreciate have a crew that is on time, works a full day and works on Saturdays to get things done. And did I mention their work is awesome!!

Initially, it went well but within a year, the entire crack in the patio between sections started crumbling. The entire length next to garage disintegrated. He had a new crew come out the second year to repair both and within 1 season, the entire repaired areas has broken free. In almost all areas, you can see the original concrete in patches several inches long. Plus, all new new paint that his crew put down looks like it was oversprayed and no longer has the original texture, much like bubbling paint. I paid an additional $700+ for this 'new' look. I took picture and will likely post on a website for everyone to see. I am being brutally honest. Feel free to come look at the walk by my garage and you will see what the entire job looks like. 885 Linden Pl (condos).

They build a metal barn and poured concrete which was okay. They poured the foundation for my house and it was out of square. They didn't pack the gravel enough so the concrete is cracked now. The patios is sloped backwards so water flows toward the house and he quoted me one price and then overcharged me.

The guy who came out was not going to be able to do the work for me for at least a month or so, so I ended up choosing someone else but the bidding process was pretty straightforward. He came out and told me what my options were, gave me some ideas as well, explained the process that he would go through and the differences between how he does things and the way that other people may do things. It was a simple process but I had to get the job done before putting in our grass and we did our grass in July. He clearly does good work but his pricing came in a few hundred dollars over who I ended up going with. He was also just really booked up and I was able to get this other guy to come within a week where he was not even able to consider doing anything for at least a month. But he got back to me pretty quickly and got out there to do the bid pretty quickly.

Recent Review: My experience was amazing. Out of the 5 or so quotes I got, his was the fastest and the most competitive. He replied to my request for a quote the same day I sent it and came and looked at my property the same night. By the following Wednesday, the job was completed. That's less than a week from start to finish. And the patio is beautiful. Much better than I ever could have expected it would turn out.

Recent Review: This was a big and complicated job. We talked to several contractors and got a lot of ideas and estimates. Several of the contractors said they couldn't do the job and the other ones wanted twice the money. Fury concrete systems (FCS) was confident they could do the job and they were within what we expected to pay. This was a hard working crew. They were here every day until the job was completed. They did every thing that we wanted and made it work. We love everything about it. They did a great job. It looks beautiful and the final test was when they were all through and I was washing everything down, The water all drained off exactly as it should.
