MENACI DESIGN DRYWALL The King Of Drywall
1.0
Not good. Ciro started off very cordial. He came to review the job in a timely manner. I went over all the details of the job with Ciro. There were some detail issues because we were adding drywall to the ceiling. For example, the trim where the ceiling met the wall (closet) had to be removed and replaced when the new drywall was installed. this was all discussed and included in the price. Ciro provided an estimate and I negotiated a lower price with him. At the tie he did not say he could do it for a lower price but I would be using inferior products at that price. The problems began when his workers showed up to do the job. It became apparent that Ciro did not go over the job with his workers. When I asked for them to remove the trim, they had to call Ciro for approval. When I asked that they cover furniture, they did a half !@%$ job! I understand the job is messy but if you saw the way they treated my furniture you would be appalled. They did not clean up after themselves each night so the bedrooms, bathrooms were pretty much unusable during this period. They were not hired to paint the walls in the bathroom but because they did such a terrible job of taping when they applied the mud to the ceiling they got mud all over the walls. They tried to just touch up about three inches at the top of the wall to match the existing wall. The problem was they used the wrong color paint and the wrong sheen. This happened in both bathrooms that they worked in. While they were painting the living room wall the painter said he's already applied three coats and its still not covering. The underneath color was a dark brown but it shouldn't have taken four coats to cover. This next part was not their fault. When they finished paint the rooms, thee was a slight pink tint to the paint. I knew this wasn't correct because I had already used this color in the hallway and it was fine. The painters just pick up the paint at DE and paint, they couldn't care less nor should they about the color. When I went to DE to tell them about the shade of paint now on all my walls, they said that your painter used the cheapest paint they carry. MAKE SURE YOU STIPULATE THE ACTUAL NAME OF THE PAINT YOU WAN THEM TO USE. When I confronted Ciro about this, he said there isn't a difference in the various grades of paint sold by DE. REALLY?? That's news to DE. DE admitted the shade of paint was off and they reimbursed me to have a painter to come in and repaint what Ciro's team did and DE also paid for the paint. So props to DE!!! In the process of painting my bathroom walls they got paint on my handmade custom cabinets. When I called Ciro he stopped taking my calls. If this is the kind of service you want, then these are the guys for you. I'm not a sour homeowner, just want to warn folks able certain contractors and how there pricing may seem good...they use crappy paint and their on their way to the next customer. If you want to see another review I wrote on Inter Urban Flooring for hardwood floor installation, check them out...they were awesome. Such a difference.

Final Touch Painting

The job went very well overall in regard to quality and execution. I recommend this vendor for interior painting but there was one thing you should watch out for and manage if you hire Debra. Debra had to remove several fixtures in order to paint walls. She was not very good at getting the items back on the wall securely and we had one item that got broken upon removal [a globe on a 3 light fixture was broken]. She also had a hard time accessing a tight spot in the bath tub area. She must have used the tub faucet as a step because she bent it and it is not a bit cockeyed. It still works OK but it does turn straight and is a constant reminder of what happened. I would use this vendor again, but next time I will remove all fixtures myself [and re-install] and I will ask her to be careful not to step on ANYTHING except her ladder in order to paint high locations.

Tony was great to work with and used to working with out of State owners. They worked around our tenants schedule which was a pain and they had to spread the job out over 4 weeks to accommodate our tenant. We would use Tony and his crew again for our other properties in CA.

Double Dub Construction
5.0
This is second time that we have contracted with Double Dub Construction for a project. The first one was a deck replacement. We were so impressed with Will Walker's work ethic and quality of work that we contracted with his company again to remodel our kitchen. Will is the hardest working contactor that I have ever encountered in the course of owing several homes in a variety of states during a career in the Navy. His crew arrives early to the job site so that they can be unpacked and ready to go to work on time, not just arrive on time. Will and his crew work quickly without any sacrifice in quality of work. He was very sensitive to the fact that the one of the most important rooms in the house was going to be out of commission and he made sure that his crew completed all of their tasks in a timely fashion so that cabinet installation could go as scheduled. Will sets high standards of performance for himself and his crew and holds his subcontractors to those same high standards. He is very sensitive to controlling dust during demolition and drywall work and in protecting floors. His crew cleans up their work area daily and also clean up the area where they clean their equipment afterwards. Will has been a pleasure to work with and I would definitely recommend him to anyone and will use his services again in the future.

Fred's Finishing Quality Wood Finishes
1.0
Among numerous other elements, services were to include complete prepping of wood varnished cabinet island, cabinet panels, doors, and drawer faces for application of lacquer to provide a smooth, gloss color finish to [quote] exactly match [end quote] the paint color sample as provided by me. 1. When asked by me about filling cracks and holes prior to lacquer application to ensure that a smooth, gap-free finish resulted, the owner stated that all would be completely filled and sanded and that this is definitely part of their preparation process. 2. During and at close of performance of your services, I expressed my strong dissatisfaction for the following reasons: 3. The color of the lacquer sprayed on the cabinet island and cabinet panels was drastically different from that of the paint sample provided and as was promised would match ?exactly?, and 4. The owner very unprofessionally pointed fingers and laid blame on the company that mixed the lacquer when the owner is the contractor providing the services and receiving payment for services of whom is responsible for ensuring that the services he provides and the products used for said services are of the quality he promises the customer, and 5. The finish of the lacquer was that of over spray -- a dull, rough matte that was still transparent ? shadows of the wood finish still showing through, and appeared as though it was just the white primer, and 6. None of the cracks ? spaces between trim moldings and cabinet and cabinet corners ? had been filled, and 7. Holes that had been filled were grossly dimpled caused by not filling and sanding properly and by not allowing putty to completely dry prior to primer and lacquer application, and 8. It was also quite apparent that sanding of all surfaces had not been done and that all that was done was primer sprayed on prior to lacquer application, and 9. I, the customer, had to make two trips into Eureka to speak with the company who had mixed the lacquer to ensure that the lacquer color was matched correctly for the remainder of the project, and to obtain correctly matched oil-based paint so that I could fill cracks, sand, and re-paint all surfaces they had lacquered. I was told by the manager of the paint company that it was clear that the owner is not fully educated on paint and lacquer products and the behavior of said products, and that it is the painting/refinishing company's responsibility to verify color matching and to educate and properly advise their customers to ensure the best possible end result, and 10. I, the customer, had to invest 3 full days to fill cracks, sand, prime, and re-paint the island cabinet and cabinet panels, and 11. Painter?s tape that is designed specifically to not tear off existing dry paint, no less tear of wall board when applied and removed as per instruction, had been ripped off my walls, causing damage to the kitchen painted walls and wall board, and 12. Repair of the above damage to walls was left for me, the customer, to repair, and 13. When I stated that the lacquer finish looked like overspray -- dull matt primer -- and that this is unacceptable and I wanted to ensure that the doors and drawer fronts had the correct gloss finish, the owner then stated that he could always add a clear coat to obtain the gloss finish. When working with lacquer, a clear finish coat, whether matte, satin, or gloss, is standard practice ? it finishes the surface -- and it appears, just as with the lack of proper prepping, as though he was attempting to cut corners, and 14. Once the cabinet doors and drawer fronts were finally brought back for installation, (2 weeks after project initiation), it is obvious that filling of cracks was not done prior to priming and lacquer application and that he attempted to just use the lacquer to fill cracks. Many of the cracks between the molding and the door faces remained, which is unacceptable for painted/lacquered finishes, and 15. There were fingerprints in the lacquer finish on a couple of the door fronts where someone had handled them before the lacquer was dry, and 16. I, the customer, had to fill the cracks, sand, prime, and re-paint all of the door faces and drawer fronts using oil-based paint. 17. Not only was the job not as promised and of unbelievable poor quality, the job was not complete on July 12, 2013 as promised. Not only did I not receive the doors and drawer fronts back from them until 2 full weeks from project inception, I , the customer, had to completely re-finish the entire kitchen cabinets, doors, and drawer fronts myself.

Recent Review: I live in a condo and my neighbor above damaged my bathroom wall with 2 floods from his bathroom. I looked on Angie's List and found MDD and called. Ciro came out the next day for a bid. He was very professional, courteous and told me exactly what needed to be done and a time line. I received an emailed bid the next day, which was very reasonable. We discussed start dates and he started the work on Wednesday and finished on Friday. The work needed to dry for a day, so he returned as soon as possible to complete it. They put plastic on the floor from the front door through the unit to where they were working. They put up a plastic curtain to protect my flooring and furniture from any dust. I was actually impressed by this, as I have never seen that done before and thought it was brilliant. The work is amazing and my wall is like brand new. I have had bad experiences before with contractors who say they are professional and do the work themselves when they don't, with horrendous results. Ciro was professional with attention to detail and he is the King of Drywall. I will use Ciro again for any drywall, painting and anything else he does. I had a fantastic experience and highly recommend him to everyone. I've already contacted a friend who is going to call him this week.
