Reviews in Coronado to Build Carports

WestStar General Contractors
5.0
We originally chose this company because of their honest bidding on our renovations.  Little did we know that we picked a top notch winner.  They recognized our budget and came through on target.  Don, the owner, recognized project deadlines and ensured that that they were completed as promised.  Staff is friendly, professional and respectful.  Weststar staff is knowledgeable, talented and well connected in the community.  Daily communication.  I don?t think a day went by when our contractor was not on site.  They took care of all coordination of licensed professionals and city permits.  Projects included taking a 1927 tiny and dilapidated bathroom, expanded it and  re-created it to its original splendor.  They were skillful enough to create a linen closet that looks of the 1920?s era. They were able to create walls where there were none.  They were able to relocate attic access to another location. Their skills were equally impressive in the kitchen.  It was deplorable.  It is now exquisite, flawless.  They created an overhang/carport which looks beautiful and authentic to the house. Also smaller projects such as texturize and paint walls. We could not be more happy with the finished products.  They take care of every little aspect of home renovation.  When work was finished at the end of each day, they thoroughly cleaned up after themselves removing all debris.  You will definitely want to call this company.   I am entrusting them to do a major remodel of the exterior next,  They are re-stuccoing the entire house.  I am that confident in them.  They also offer choices of exterior landscaping.

Deep Rooted Designs, Inc.
5.0
James and his crew did a fairly large job for us including backyard, front yard and outdoor living space. Deep Rooted Designs knocked it out of the park. We came into the process with a budget and a few must-haves, and James worked with us to make sure his design included them,  but also kept us within our budget. The result was something we are happy and proud to call our own. Deep Rooted Designs went above and beyond as they were very flexible with some issues that happened during the build. We needed to move our gas meter 10 feet, something we thought would be pretty simple. However, our power utility gave us bad information and turned a relatively simply job into a 2 month nightmare. James not only worked out a way to move a custom shed he built so we could dig out the gas line, but was able to work us back into his schedule without too much hassle.  After the work was done, he's kept in touch, done some tune up work and has replaced some plants that didn't do so well. I highly recommend him and Deep Rooted Designs.

Bison Constructors
5.0
I highly recommend Bison Constructors. We hired Bison for a large project for a Homeowners Association to rebuild all of the stairwells due to termite/water damage. Bison came in much lower than most of the other contractors. All contractors mentioned that if there was additional damage there would be additional costs. This was somewhat concerning because it could essentially become a blank check once the project is started. There did end up being additional repairs needed but Bison has been great and completely fair with the extra costs. He was good with communication, scheduling and completeing the job on time. His work has also been outstanding. He did a really nice job and it turned out better than we hoped. We've since hired him to do several other projects around the building. I would absolutely recommend him for any project and have already done so.

Michael was great! He gave us a very clear and complete estimate and timeline. The job was to duplicate the woodwork over the back patio so the front looked the same. It looks great and we will be talking to him after the holidays for a kitchen remodel.

San Diego Custom Sheds

They showed up right on time and finished right when they said they were going to finish.  They are very nice to work with.  I am actually thinking about using him again to build a dog house to match the shed.  They were very easy to work with.  They are very nice people.

I had a lot of personal contact with John Hammer. He was really good about communicating with me. I enjoyed working with him. We are very pleased with the work they did. It took them about 10 days to complete the job.

Matrix Construction Group Inc.
5.0
We are pleased to recommend Matrix Construction. The company built a beautiful guest house for us, together with a covered patio and a new garage. They not only did excellent work, they made recommendations throughout the project which added to its ultimate success. Matt has the same crew working with him all the time, and they were always here when they were expected. I can’t stress too much the reliability and quality of workmanship they brought to our project.

Rogers Construction Team

We had a dispute with Rogers about permit fees, so under our express rights in the contract we decided to terminate the agreement. He then tried to charge us $673,427 for work he didn't even do. I warn everyone, do not do business with Ryan Rogers of Rogers Construction.

Tuff Shed Inc - San Diego
4.0
Update: After my review (below), Mike, new GM at Tuff Shed called - very apologetic for problems I encountered during a transition, and we discussed how he could make it right.  Because I didn?t notice everything at once and had problems with another company trying to correct issues, I had not given TS a chance to resolve issues which wasn?t fair to them.  Mike was very sincere about high quality product & customer service.  We came up with a resolution & he promptly scheduled someone for next business day even though they were very busy.  Arturo gave courtesy call, arrived as scheduled, and we discussed.  He was professional & polite and did good work.  TS really made the effort to take care of everything so I am now a satisfied customer and will use TS next year when I get a large shed.   Original: Mixed on Tuff Shed.  Phone contacts friendly & helpful (Texas & local office, Home Depot outside rep).  Order person at Home Dep was friendly but not knowledgeable so had to call outside rep to walk through.  TS called to confirm order & to schedule, and was to email confirmation & info (didn?t).  I scheduled a month out & requested afternoon appt since would have last minute to do morning of.  I called week before to confirm afternoon & request info not sent, and day before to confirm afternoon.  Was stunned when they arrived 4 hours early at 8:30am since I was not ready.  I asked why morning without notifying me and why no on-their-way phone call promised so at least a little heads up.  Decided to make the best so scrambled to get ready.   I asked about base ? per Home Depot?s suggestion I had leveled dirt & laid 2 inches gravel for drainage since this was a lean-to.  I wanted shed close to house since only a narrow path, and porch since would encroach a window.  I asked if I should rake some gravel away from house & porch since would get pushed back when shed was moved in place.  They said don?t worry, they?d take care of it. When done, shed was 9 inches from house & porch so heavily encroached path & window which I said wasn?t acceptable.  They got it closer (would have been closer if I?d moved gravel as I?d suggested). They put blocks under 3 corners to level (pushing had unleveled some areas).  Shed was 10 inches above ground ? 2 from gravel, 2 from blocks, and 6 from shed?s metal base.  I asked how shed would settle since on blocks (HD said shed would immediately settle 1-2 inches in gravel, more with time).  They shrugged it off so I?ll have to add steps ? inconvenient when bringing large items in/out.  I did a quick inspection and had them trim a shim with sharp edges sticking out, hammer some large roof staples sticking up (wasn?t until I was on a ladder later I saw how poorly the metal had been attached to the shed roof ? cut too short, 2nd piece added crookedly and large staples missed metal, barely in, or 3 on top of each other).  The shed was pre-cut at factory - some support studs are too short (can slide little finger in gaps), some had cracks, and several nails missed studs.  Third of inch gap along roof line which I caulked to minimize rain/black widow spiders, etc. coming in.   I supplied Behr paint to match house ? walls were reasonable but trim was sloppy ? areas too thin or missed entirely so I re-painted.  The 2 guys worked quickly & efficiently and only took a couple hours since it was a small shed.  Although I believe this will be a long-lasting shed, not quite the quality I expected from TS?s high reputation.

I had a very, very good experience with this company; they did a wonderful job. The crew that came out and did the work was very professional, and the work that they did was of the highest quality and turned out great; their prices, I think, were very fair.

Recent Review: I'm in Palmdale CA, 15th Street W. and Avenue O.  Sure glad I found United Carports!  Great customer service, Diane promptly answered my many questions.  We communicated mostly by email with a few phone calls.  She promptly adjusted price based on my several changes to specifications and options.  Price was VERY good compared to others after much online shopping and estimates from local contractors.  I got the certified plans from United Carports and used those plans to get the permit for LA County (a "learning experience").   I was quite nervous about the down payment and $500 for the plans as I didn't know if plans would be approved.  After a couple of mods to the plans and about $3500 to the County, they were approved much to my relief.  It took about 3 months for County to approve them. After finally getting approved plans,  I got a local contractor for the concrete floor, he just followed the plans and did an excellent job.  Then United Carports sent out a team to put up the building.  It took about 2 1/2 days.  It was obviously an experienced installation team with 2 to 6 installers working on it at any given time.  I'm VERY happy with the results, it is rated for 110 mph winds per County requirements for Antelope Valley so it is a little more sturdy than the standard frame.   The building isn't perfect but I didn't expect perfection for the price.  The building is sound and was wind/rain tested a couple of days after the install.  I got some drafts and blow-in around the bottom base rail.  I asked United Carports about methods for better sealing .  I was just looking for some tips on getting a better seal and fully expected to do it myself.  But the next day one of the owners made the 4-hour round trip to my house to help with sealing!  Awesome customer support after the install!  The standard roll-up doors are a bit "cheesy" but quite serviceable.  I ordered optional seals around them but they still won't be sealed well around the sides.  For the price, I didn't expect any better.  If I decide better roll-up doors are needed in the future, then it appears it won't be  difficult to replace them. Windows and walk-in doors were good quality. Overall, a great experience working with United Carports customer service and the installation team.  I am quite impressed with the final product, it exceeds my expectations.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Recent Review: Danny took on our project, which was to build a home on an oddly-shaped, canyon side lot. We hired him as he had experience building on hillsides as well as with working with our architect. Ours was a very difficult project; from Coastal Commission to City approval, as well as with structural engineering. Danny had a plan for how to access and install our caissons into the hillside from day one. Not only that, his crew and sub-contractors showed up everyday, on-time for our year and a 1/2 building period. We communicated nearly every day via text or phone calls; Danny and his supervisor Scott were always VERY responsive. They were also open to alternate ideas in order to cut down construction costs. We've now been in our new home one year, and can honestly say that we are very happy with the craftsmanship and quality of our home. Moreover, the few small issues that we have had (garage door opener; low water pressure), Danny has continued to be responsive and to send his team back out to assist us over this past year. Overall, DM Building is an honest and earnest group of builders who only want the best for your project. I highly recommend DM Building, and would be happy to discuss their work further with anyone who is looking for a custom home builder or looking to embark on a large remodel project. Recent Review: I was really impressed with the extensive work that this company recently did on my sister's home, particularly with how they seemed to have very good judgment and be very reliable and honest.  That led me to finally taking the plunge to have some significant remodeling done in my home (a condominium).  I wasn't sure they would want a relatively small job (although it seemed big to me!), but they were very open to doing whatever I wanted.  My initial request was for a complete remodel of my master bathroom, and I soon decided to add on more, including entirely replacing all the second level's carpeted flooring with a quality hardwood, replacing the fireplace surround and hearth with one that enhanced, rather than detracted from, the unit's appearance, and finally deciding to also install the same hardwood on the stairs (which then led to the need for a new balustrade).  And everything turned out beautifully!  Paul (an experienced woodworker, who built the new bathroom vanity and the beautiful fireplace surround) was always available as needed and, upon my request (as I had become aware of his excellent sense of design and wide range of knowledge through the work he did for my sister), provided some extremely helpful suggestions about both aesthetic and functional options for all these projects.  As I could rarely be present while the work was being done, it was very important to me to have a very trustworthy company, and I couldn't have asked for anything more than what they did (including making sure the cats didn't get out!).  Paul's crew was friendly and very professional, and also provided helpful explanations and suggestions when I asked; they all take pride in and responsibility for their work.  Largely as a function of me not being around when the work was being done, a couple of mistakes were made that needed to be fixed, and Paul always responded to fix the problem; this company takes customer satisfaction very seriously. For example, they did a wonderful job replacing a foldable attic door that had started sagging--except that we later discovered that the new door was narrower and wasn't wide enough to allow the attic-based water heater to be removed, so Paul had his crew replace the door and did not charge me.  Estimates for work were always provided in advance, and Paul was willing to explain whenever it wasn't clear exactly what was or wasn't included.   If you are looking to get the job done as cheaply as possible, this company is not for you.  But if you are willing to pay more than bargain basement prices in exchange for competence, thoroughness, professionalism, and honesty, this could be the company you want.
