On the second-hottest day of 2013 at 6 p.m. my wife, who has much sharper hearing than I, heard the alarming screeeee! sounds that usually means the fan motor in the indoor condenser of the air conditioner is giving up the ghost. I called Airmasters and got a human being on the phone a full hour after business day had ended. I explained the problem and that we have a maintenance contract. Thirty minutes later the technician was standing at the front door. He came in and listened to the noise. After running a thorough check with several gauges and electronic devices, he said he didn't think the fan motor was going bad. He said, "Let's try changing the air filter." I had already bought a new filter and had planned to install it the next day. It worked! The noise went away. He waited several minutes to make sure it didn't return. No charge! This sounds kinda routine, but the technician could just as easily have told me the fan motor WAS about to die and sold me a $500 repair job on a 101-degree day. But he didn't. I appreciate the honesty, promptness and thoroughness.
