My central air conditioner failed on a Saturday afternoon in 90 degree heat. Mike responded quickly and found the problem. The blower unit had failed in the air handler. Mike tried to several temporary fixes to try to get the system to run so we could have air through the night, however nothing would work. Mike was able to get the repair parts on a Sunday and install them before lunch time. We are extremely happy with Mike's service and commitment to get our system repaired quickly. We have recommend him to our friends and family if they ever need AC service.

Our house main air conditioner went dead on a Friday evening...about the worst time it could happen. We called American Home Shield (AHS), our home warranty provider, to request emergency service because temps were 95+ and we have an elderly family member. AHS did NOT do a good job for us and after many phone calls over the weekend and broken promises, we were told on Sunday that All Florida Appliance would be our provider on Monday. I didn't hear from All FL early on Monday and when I called them they were still going through various emails. I finally did get a call about mid-morning and was told a repairman would be at the house at about noon. The repairman arrived on time, immediately identified the problem as a bad capacitor, installed a new capacitor and had it running quickly. At my request, he also checked the Freon charge and operation of the unit. He did a thorough exam and found all in good working order. The technician was fast, knowledgeable and thorough. Overall, an excellent experience.

The service provided was exceptional. They came out the same day we called even though it was after normal business hours. Rich, the technician, worked until almost 9:30 pm to rectify our problem. He was very professional, put protectors on his shoes to protect our house, and went out of his way to get us the most for our money. I would not hesitate to use this company again and would highly recommend them to friends and family!

Replaced the central air conditioner system and replaced the platform the air handler sets on. Very professional and quality workmanship in all aspects. The installers arrived on time and spent most of the day performing the replacement. Communication with the company before, during and after the installation was excellent. The installers did not take away the old concrete platform the day of the installation. The next day, I called the office to report that the platform had not been taken away, and LPAC removed it the same day.

I called and the man I spoke to said there was FREE diagnosis for Angie's List customers. He said that diagnosis would cost me only $69.50. It was only after additional questioning on my part that he admitted that the "free" diagnosis he mentioned was only free IF you had them do the work. In other words, if you didn't have them do the work, it would cost $149.50!!! That's their idea of "free" diagnosis? I felt that what he told me in the beginning was misleading.

The repairman showed up and said that he had to return the next day because the unit had to thaw. Once he came back, he checked the unit and found no leaks, pumped in three gallons of freon (at 90.oo per gallon), and suggested that we replace the entire unit because he and quot;could not guarantee how long it would last. It could freeze up again tomorrow.and quot;' We had this experience with this company before, with the service person suggesting expensive additions or replacements. The last time we had their and quot;free inspection, and quot; we had a one thousand dollar av lamp installed that we found could have been done for less than three hundred.

Recent Review: Update from my last report on this company. Previously Hot to Cold came out and tried to fix my problem. In that is was not really fixable he did what he could. Spent a couple of hours working on it and then, because he couldn't fix the problem to HIS satisfaction, did not charge me for that visit. A couple of days later the AC broke again. Wayne came out took a look and then discussed with me the options. We choose to replace the faltering system with a new one. They were out the very next day (SATURDAY) they worked diligently and continually to, he even got a call for a second job nearby so they split their team and did both jobs. It was refreshing to meet with Wayne and get to know him. He did exactly what he said he was going to do and at the price he said he would do it at, no surprises. And by the way his price was the least expensive. There might be some benefit going with the big mega A/C companies around here. But for my money get a excellent quality local company. Develop a personal one on one relationship and you will be more than satisfied, I am. Try this guy!!!

Recent Review: Imagine the letdown of closing on our first house, a fine little place (or so we thought), only to discover within days that latent defects had brought the rain right in, down behind walls and under floors, leading to buckled hardwood, moldering carpet, soaked drywall and black mold. Then imagine a contractor who made us forget these sordid discoveries (well, almost), not just by fixing the flaws (which he did), but by enthusiastically taking up our larger vision of our home and bringing it promptly to life -- all with the skill, professionalism, courteousness and, above all, the integrity reminiscent of a bygone era of handshake agreements and an honest day's work. Thankfully we did not need to imagine this outcome because this is what we got. When we chose DSI's proposal over several competing bids, we knew very well our intention was to choose quality, thoroughness and honesty over cheap, quick and mysterious, but we could not have known how consistently Mr. Spence would maintain the standard, seeing the project through to its happy conclusion despite myriad moving parts and a steady series of surprises and unavoidable adaptations, occasioned by the peccadilloes (or outright defects) of past construction -- some of the costs of which he insisted on absorbing himself (at times over our protest) because he considered them (in retrospect) to have been at least partially foreseeable, a good example of integrity in action and not just in principle. Before finishing with some additional representative examples (the most efficient way to convey such an involved project, spanning many weeks), I'll state our conclusion: You can find cheaper bids, but hardly a better value than DSI. Whatever the contract says (and yes, of course, we worked with a written contract easily negotiated with Mr. Spence), you simply don't want to work with anyone at all if there's reason to worry about their capabilities or their word; with Mr. Spence we worried about neither. No one is superhuman and in a project of any complexity there will be oversights, miscommunications or errors (albeit in our case, only relatively minor ones); the difference with people like Mr. Spence is that he stands behind the agreement and his word and backs it up with action, and that, in the end, makes all the difference. Some examples of Mr. Spence and DSI in action: -- when a bedeviling rook leak persisted even after numerous leaks had already been fixed, DSI used a hose and strategically placed observers to track the source and path of water instrusion, pinpointing the leak and enabling repair and more effective remediation of water damage; -- Mr. Spence rode herd over numerous work teams and performed continuous quality control, insisting that (for example) several flawed tiles be removed and replaced from a supposedly "finished" kitchen floor and again in a supposedly "finished" shower; similarly insisted that garage floor painting be re-done since it had not been correctly applied the first time; similarly insisted that various drywall, texturing and wall painting flaws be corrected; similarly insisted that irrigation system include a rain sensor (as required by code); similarly insisted that custom cabinetry be corrected for flaws in finish; -- Mr. Spence proactively alerted us to several dangerous electrical wiring conditions (preexisting) so they could be corrected, and also to several inadequate plumbing arrangements so that we could make a decision about how to deal with them; --Mr. Spence proactively played devil's advocate when we faced ambiguous choices or judgment calls (a choice of materials or color, for example, or between competing solutions to questions of design, layout or functionality); --Mr. Spence employed subcontractors (electrical, plumbing, cabinetry, tile, painting, HVAC) with whom he maintains longstanding relationships, and managed and integrated them and their work into the project and its timeline, so that we experienced as seamless an effort as possible; --Mr. Spence promptly let us know when a planned approach needed to be amended (e.g., in light of wiring deficiencies) and always made sure we approved any changes before he made them -- nothing was assumed without our approval; --Mr. Spence and team rose above and beyond on numerous occasions, for example by polishing tired-looking kitchen hardware, adjusting out-of-alignment cabinets, and having the entire worksite professionally cleaned prior to our arrival, simply to make things nicer for us; by delivering supplies we needed even though outside the scope of his work; by removing debris we created even though outside the scope of his work; by advising on many ancillary home-improvement questions (and we had many, many such questions, such as pool-related issues, appliances, cabinet reglazing, security, safety, lighting, flooring, and landscaping) even though all were outside the scope of his work; --Mr. Spence always listened to our questions, took our concerns seriously, and took the time to explain things thoroughly so that we understood the processes and decisions (even micro-choices) involved; for example, constructing a new walk-in closet required consideration of not just where the entry door should be cut, but the type of door, direction of swing, width / arc, etc.; also, a new breakfast nook built-in bench required careful consideration of angles and depths, balancing bench storage with seating, custom cushions, etc. -- none of this was taken for granted or assumed for us, but instead Mr. Spence solicited our input at every step so that we would know exactly what we'd be getting; --In general, Mr. Spence took the time and thought to do things right, absorbing the pressures and tensions inherent in a complex project, shielding us from the brunt of the difficulties, yet keeping us intimately involved and connected to the details and decisions. --Would we work with DSI again? Not only would we happily work with Mr. Spence again, we have in fact already hired him for a new project on the lanai, now in process -- an action to speak with all these words.

Recent Review: My story is a bit lengthy, but at the outset, I'll say that I can recommend Advanced Cooling Systems. I gave a grade of "A" on all areas, except "Quality", where I gave them a "C". They did not fix my air conditioner at the first visit, nor on a subsequent visit, however it was only happenstance that prevented me from calling on them a third time. I originally called them on June 19 to service my 3.5 ton Goodman, which is 10 years old. My complaint was that it just wasn't cooling as well as it once did. I know that it may indeed be on the decline, but hoped to squeeze as much time as I could from the unit. The tech arrive promptly and inspected the outside compressor/condenser, and told me he suspected a coolant leak. He said that coolant was low (5.5 lbs.) and added aprox 2 lbs. to bring it up to capacity. He then tried to detect any coolant leaks in the system, but did not find any. I paid him for the service call and hoped that lower temperatures would follow. Two weeks later, I hadn't experienced any improvement, so I asked for another check. Advanced Cooling informed me that any re-calls for the same problem would carry no minimum charge, but only charges for work performed. Unfortunately the next tech did not find any decrease in the head pressure (which would confirm a coolant leak) and informed me that worn systems can just not perform at the same efficiency over their entire life and it may be time to consider a new system. He did not do any other diagnosing, as he probably trusted the original tech's diagnosis and I guess I don't blame him for that. I then called Jeff Rappaport at Advanced Cooling and asked him to come to my home and give me an estimate to replace the air conditioner. I also called two other companies to perform similar estimates. Jeff was prompt, professional and thorough in his explanation of options and covered all the associated inspections and all details of proposed work along with credit options. He patiently answered all my questions and left me with written descriptions of the proposed systems, we'd discussed. It was when I visited with the third company for an estimate for a new air conditioner that the picture gets foggy. After hearing my overview of recent events, he looked at my system. He noted high head pressure, high amperage draw (close to max) and a temperature split that was excessive. I'm not technical, but I was told that a temperature split is the difference between air coming out of the compressor/condenser and the air returning from the home and the optimum is 18 - 20 degrees. This tech from the new (third) company told me that his split was 23 degrees and he thought that could be a sign of over charging of the coolant. Now up until now, I didn't know the dangers of that, but it can cause damage to the unit and cause higher energy costs. He let some coolant out of the system and also told me the main thing he noticed is that the connection to my supply plenum (where air passes into the air handler) was leaking badly and should be fixed. Because his visit was for an estimate, he wasn't equipped to fix it properly, but offered to at least tape the connection securely enough to relieve the system of stress and offer me better cooling until another tech could visit, which he arranged for the next day. He indicated that charging the system beyond capacity could give cooler temperatures, but over time this would destroy my system. He also intimated that many companies in Florida are more interested in selling than fixing and He wouldn't be surprised if this "fix" (adding excessive coolant, rather than patching the plenum leak) was done intentionally. I do not believe that, but be warned that such practices are not uncommon. Now I had conflicting opinions as to what ailed my system , so I found myself in the uncomfortable position of guessing which company to trust. Indeed it's like going to a doctor for a second opinion and receiving an alternate diagnosis at the second doctor. I still don't know if this second fix will give me satisfaction or a longer time with my current unit, but I accepted his advice and help and began to think that Advanced Cooling may have either been inept or dishonest. I immediately called Jeff Rappaport from Advanced Cooling to have him explain why my poorly connected plenum had not been diagnosed properly and indeed he did know about this issue, for when he had visited originally to give me an estimate for a new system, he took a look at my system and informed me of the problem. It was the first time I'd been aware of that problem. The two previous visits from Advanced Cooling techs had not alerted me to the leaking plenum. At the time when Jeff Rappaport visited to give me estimates for a new system, my mind was probably more focused on digesting estimates on new systems, so I did not ask about repairing that problem at that time. When I re-called Jeff and asked why he hadn't recommended fixing the leak, he responded that he thought he'd been up front with me about the issue, but also thought that I was more inclined to move on to a new system. Indeed Jeff did inform me of the issue with the plenum leak at his visit for the new system estimate, but he did not encourage me to fix it. I had been clear that any purchase would have to be on credit but at the same time I asked him to price some more high end systems for my review. These mixed signals could have influenced Jeff to concentrate on a new system, rather than patching the existing one. I can only recommend to others that if purchase is really a struggle, then you need to be clear with the representative of any company. Jeff also warned that the third company may have put me in a less than optimum cooling position by draining coolant from the system. From his statements and some other research, determining the appropriate amount of coolant is a complicated business. This statement placed doubt in my mind about the third company tech, but I still have no conclusion about that. Did Jeff or any tech from Advanced Cooling act dishonestly? I don't think so, but maybe the original tech or the follow up tech could have done a better job. This may have prevented me from shopping for a new unit in the first place. When I called him to discuss the outcome here, he assured me that he'd have been happy to repair the system if it hadn't been already fixed. As another company performed the latest repair, I had no need to have Advanced Cooling perform any more repairs. I don't know if either the first or second repair helped or hurt and maybe only time will tell, I can only comment on what I do know and that is that I'd call Advanced Cooling again.

Recent Review: These guys know their stuff. 3 years ago I hired someone on a recommendation to install a new system and it just never really worked right. After 2 companies could never find any issues I went looking for the best rated HVAC company and all site listed the Comfort Authority as number 1. Started with a service to make sure the AC system was in good shape, and it was. Then they had someone come out to make sure the ducting that was replaced by the prior owner was sized correctly, and it was. Yesterday Peter came out and found duct work that was not right and he fixed it! Finally we have a comfortable home! These guys took the time to look at everything, they explained everything in detail and answered every question. We are so happy we now have a contract with them for all our VAC needed.

What do customers in Tampa say about Central AC Repairs?

Our central air would not stay on, and we were not able to get in touch with the company that had installed it about three years ago. I got onto Angie's List and called two companies and quickly received a call back from Element Solutions Air Conditioning & Heating. After describing the problem, he said they would be there in one hour. We live in St. Petersburg, and he was coming from Tampa. This was on a Friday about 4 p.m. They arrived at our house within an hour. First thing he introduced himself and the tech. They got right down to business, and Allie saw it was the capacitor, which was not in "spec". We went outside, and he showed my husband and me the part and explained what was going on and said that it needed replacing. He told us how much that would be. He replaced the capacitor making sure it was in "spec." He topped off the freon, and they cleaned everything up before they left. The price for this was reasonable, and my husband and I were happy we called this company. Plus, they are so pleasant and very nice. The next day Allie called to ask how the AC was running, We told him it was ice cold. Then on Sunday it stopped working, and I called him on Monday. Once again they promptly returned the call, and again he came promptly. It was the thermostat, which had been acting up for awhile; but, of course, not when they were here the first time. Allie explained what was going on with it and told us it needed to be replaced and how much that would be. He replaced it with a better brand than we had. Once again reasonable price. We asked him if they would come back start of every season for a maintenance checkup. Thank you, Element Solutions Air Conditioning & Heating.
