TruGreen Lawn Care - 5100

They killed all of my lawn. Everything died. All that lived were the weeds and sand spurs. Do not use them. They are a rip off. They come out, get on their truck and two minutes later they're done. How can they spray my entire lawn in two minutes? They try to sell you on lawn aeration which is absolutely unnecessary.

I prepaid an account in June 2012 to take me through the end of the year. In November I started receiving account due bills. At that time I canceled and I received a refund check. Now in December and January I am receiving past due bills for services I didn't receive. I tried calling and got a recording every time stating that this was their busy season and to hold on for an operator which I did for about ten minutes before hanging up. I still don't know if my billing has been straightened out or if I will receive another past due bill in February.

They were pretty good. I think they fall down in their communication. As for the most part, the service was good. I've had them for a couple of years. They should have better communication. They do a good job.

They came monthly and applied fertilizer and weed control. They emailed me a summary of what was done and water recommendations. One time they aerated and applied nitrogen. One negative incident- after aeration, they left several mud streaks in my driveway ( I guess the vehicle tires smushed the soil plugs into the concrete ). It looked pretty bad and I was was unable to clean it myself. My HOA would fine me if I didn't take care of it. Thankfully, after a phone call to Southern Care Lawns, they came out and cleared it up for free ( I guess they pressure washed it ).

There price went up regularly. They used to come out once a month. It seems like my new company can get the same thing done for less visits. I would give them an A for there thoroughness. The quality was sporadic. Sometimes it was good and other times they would would burn out sections that we had to correct.

Generally speaking, the applications and aerating were performed on a timely basis. The price was competitive with other companies doing the same service. Some difficulty was encountered in controlling "creeping charlie" weeds in our front lawn. On 1-2 occasions, I had to call the company since the service person did not complete the back lawn as contracted but they did return and complete the job.

Started out good, the technician didn't just show up and spray his chemicals, but took the time to survey the property for issues before he started and tailored the treatment for what he saw. However, I was told by the slick salesman that showed up on my doorstep that lawn treatments were $45 each and they would be done every six weeks. Also tree/shrub treatment would be every two months at $49 each. Noticed they were coming out a lot more frequent for the tree/shrub treatment, called to complain and was told they do those treatments every six weeks as well. Then today I went online after they came to treat my lawn and noticed two charged for $45, thinking it was a mistake, I called. Only to find out it was the normal treatment and an annual chinch bug treatment that I was never told about up front and was never told about prior to them doing it.

Jeff and his firm provided lawn service, shrub trimming, fertilization/insecticide, and pool service for us for the last year. In addition we did many special projects of landscaping/sprinkler repair, etc. By and large the work they did was very good, or we wouldn?t have continued to use them or do so many other projects. I wanted to have the thatch taken out of the lawn, and Jeff billed me and I paid in advance for ?core aeration?. It was $250 for this service plus an additional $80+ to haul away the waste. I was out of town, and came home to a lawn that had not had core aeration nor verticut. It may have been lightly power raked, but certainly not anything close to core aeration or verticutting It certainly didn?t remove the thatch. When I questioned Jeff about it in an email to set up a time to talk, he responded by terminating us, which is certainly his right. He stated he didn?t have time to bump heads with us, and then lied in stating we had been rude to his crew (we both work during the day, have seen them once and said hello). The interesting thing about the timing of firing us is that it was 10 days before he was to replace sod on one side of the home that was wiped out by sod web worms, even though his firm was responsible for insect control. Our neighbor on the same side lost his entire front yard and side yard next to us from the same infestation (and was also a client of Jeff?s). Jeff refused to make good on the neighbor?s sod, and instead of fighting it, my neighbor just terminated Jeff. Perhaps Jeff learned his lesson, or the fact that the sod he was to replace in our yard was a fairly small area (maybe one pallet) led him to agree that he would replace it since it was their fault. Overall... the work Jeff?s firm did was pretty good, but since I had the gall to ask questions about an expensive service that wasn?t performed as billed, he took his marbles and went home, and has refused to make good on the core aeration or sod replacement. I wouldn?t refer this firm to my worst enemy given the lack of ethics and professionalism from the owner. If anyone thinks I?m difficult to work with or seeking vengeance, I have kept all copies of email and text message correspondence. You be the judge!

Salesman Keith last week gave us an estimate saying monthly lawn and pest control would cost $90/mo. We got other estimates, then called him back early this week saying we wanted to sign up. Keith had not provided us with a full contract, and we reminded him that he had said he would send us one to look over. He took my email address and said he would PDF me the agreement to sign (which days later still has not happened!). When we agreed to sign up, Keith said he would have the company call to set a date for the first monthly service. When the office scheduler called soon after, they indicated pest control would start in February and lawn service in March. It was at that point that we were told they only do lawn OR pest service monthly, not BOTH as had been indicated by the salesman. We told the scheduler that we would not agree to sign up to get service on an alternating month basis since we'd been told by the salesman that we would be getting both each month. In fact, Keith had stated at the time of the estimate, "Other companies might come and pitch you lawn service on an every-other month basis, but you don't want that. The fertilizer chemicals don't last that long." We asked if rain would wash away the fertilizer and Keith said, "No, rain won't wash it away since the fertilizer is sprayed on. It's an all-liquid spray and rain won't wash it away." After the office talked with Keith, he called us and said he was sorry about the confusion, and told us we would be provided with the service we thought we were getting in the first place with both lawn & pest monthly for the $90 monthly fee. We had also been promised a free lawn aeration for signing up. Keith told us the aeration was scheduled for Thursday morning, adding, "It might be very early, but you don't have to be up." We got up at 6am because we wanted to make sure to speak with the LawnBear tech doing the aerating so he would know the exact property lines since they aren't clearly defined. Nobody showed up Thursday to aerate the lawn, so we called LawnBear. Perhaps it was a phone glitch, but the first time we tried the office, their automated system hung up on us. We then called salesman Keith. We told him nobody had come to aerate the lawn. He said he would check on it and get back to us. He called back almost immediately to say that plans had changed and that nobody was coming. He said it had been rescheduled for next week. He indicated that someone had tried to call us, but that when we didn't answer, they did not leave a message. Well, both of us have smart phones that show incoming calls even if no voicemail message is left, so that was either untrue, or the person supposedly calling us had dialed a wrong number. At this point, at 1:45 pm Thursday, we called LawnBear to speak with a manager or the owner. The receptionist ran through a list of managers, indicating we might want to speak with Office Manager Mayne, but he wasn't in Thursday. She said owner John is almost never available to take a call, but said we could speak with Assistant Manager Brad. She tried to ring for Brad, but after several minutes, we were connected with Operations Manager Tom who told us Brad was not available. We discussed each of the items mentioned above. Tom listened to my issues, then simply explained the lawn & pest program in great detail, adding that it is designed to be either lawn or pest service each month, not both. He also indicated that the lawn fertilizer they use in this program is granular so it will last for two months since it is "time-released". (Note that the salesman had said it was a monthly liquid spray.) As our frustration grew, Tom simply stated the company's policy, explained the plan, and said again that if we did sign up, it would be either lawn or pest service each month, not both. At that point we told him Keith had just told us he had talked with someone in the office and that we would be getting what we thought we had signed up for. Tom didn't seem to think that was possible. He also indicated that LawnBear uses one certain technician and that he had been sent to Sarasota/Bradenton to do a week's worth of aerating, so an aeration appointment should not have been set up for this week. As our frustration continued to build, we stated that we would either receive monthly service for lawn & pest, or we would be cancelling our agreement (which we still hadn't signed since nobody ever provided a service agreement!). We added that if this happened we would be writing a review on Angie's List to warn others about the lack of clarification in the lawn & pest program. We didn't want others to waste two weeks as we had done. Tom was offended by that statement and indicated he felt we were blackmailing the company. That was never the intent, but the lack of cooperation was so frustrating, we were hoping to get someone in this company to deliver what had been promised. Tom said he would get in touch with salesman Keith, and hung up after saying either he or Keith would call us within ten to fifteen minutes. Not surprisingly, neither Tom nor Keith called us back. At 5:15 pm, more than three hours after our conversation with Tom, we called the LawnBear office and cancelled our verbal agreement. We called back today (Friday) to try to speak with the Office Manager Mayne or perhaps the owner John. In much calmer fashion than Thursday's discussion with Tom, all of the above was discussed with Mayne to explain why they had lost our business. We also wanted to give them one last chance to offer the monthly service we thought we had signed up for. Instead, we received a "Sorry about the confusion" statement, and no willingness to deliver what had originally been promised. When we finally, in exasperation, told Mayne that we had no choice but to write a review on Angie's List so that others wouldn't waste two weeks being misled and frustrated. He said, "Okay, Buddy..." And we both hung up.

My yard had some very dead spots that were 8 foot by 8 foot in size. With their lawn treatment they have been filling in nicely. I just had the Aeration done because my lawn was very spongy. Brandon and the Techs that have serviced my home have always done a great job. I get notified when they are en route and I get an e-mail when the service is complete with all of the notes from the Tech. This usually includes recommendations. Brandon took the time to really explain my lawn and the treatment that they were applying. I felt like I understood what is and what can happen to my lawn. I am very happy with their service. I would recommend. They are a small local company that needs are support.

I recently completed one year with this company. I have termite, pest and lawn car service with them. I had them in Tallahassee for several years and they were good up there. When I came down here, I had my new home protected with their termite protection plan by spraying the interior walls and rafters. Later I added lawn service and pest control. They initially did a good job on my lawn, but they failed to aerate it as promised and the technician doing the work didn't even know it was in my contract. I was told they would also sod places that died and they did not do that either. When I renewed my contract, they finally did an aeration (one of the mangers had to come out and do it) and they did some resodding, but not enought to do that much good on one side of my lawn. They seem to disagree about what is causing my lawn to die in spots. One said mold, the other said chinch bugs, and another said water. When I finally called the office manager and asked about why I wasn't getting some of the things promised in the contract, it took awhile before they responded to my request. My back lawn looked better last year than it does this year. It now has a large patch that is dead grass and the technician said it was chinch bugs. They put a few sod pieces down, but not enough to cover it, and it has not grown back, so I'm putting soil on it and will probably resod it myself. I did this with my side yard, and it worked well. They were suppose to aerate my lawn again in September, but it's now December, and they haven't done so yet. The technician says it isn't her job, so I guess I will have to call the office again and see what they will do about it. If I don't get better lawn service, I'll probably go elsewhere next year. The pest control is adequate, and I have no problems with terminates to date, since I had the structure sprayed before the walls went up.

They not only did a great job on the lawn, but I was even more impressed with their communication and responsiveness. They contacted me by email to tell me when they planned to schedule my work. When I asked them to push back the date, they obliged and quickly confirmed a new date. Once they did the job, they emailed again to let me know it was done and included several other detailed instructions on what I could do to get my weeds and crabgrass under control. Very impressed!
