The engineer Leo was very responsive when I left a message over the Christmas holiday weekend for an engineering inspection needed before a residential home contract to purchase expired in this hot 2020 market. He inspected the home the following Monday and provided his report. With his valuable report and information, the contract has proceeded and all parties are very happy!

They were $500 a piece. Very professional. The structural engineer did a very thorough job documenting the condition of my foundation. Took lot of photographs provided a professional report. With the kind of documentation and opinion he provided he really helped me sell the home and overcome some issues I had.

He is great. He is the most thorough contractor and engineer that we have came across. He was on-site everyday to make sure everything was being done to specifications. We are actually working with him now and he has helped us locate all of the service providers that we are going to use. He will be overseeing the project on our behalf. I would highly recommend him for any structural engineering or construction projects.

Mohammad spent twenty six minutes at my home shaking his head as to why the old existing truss system was done the way it was fifty years ago. His analysis was he wouldn’t touch the job, but gave us the name of another engineer that possibly could help us. He wanted me to pay him $250 an hour for his non-advice. I refused to pay him for coming out to tell me nothing. As he was leaving, he said if I’m not paying him do not call the referral he gave me. I had not intended to use any one this man would recommend. He has since filed a small claim suit against me.

Alpha Structural, Inc.

I was in a short Escrow and needed a structural engineer on short notice to review the foundation. Unfortunately Alpha only does this kind of thing two days a week and didn't have anything available for two weeks. Also, I submitted my online inquiry on Thursday and it wasn't until Tuesday when someone got back to me. I was looking forward to hiring this company because of such great reviews, but was disappointed when I could not be accommodated. I suggested to the company that they do these kinds of inspections more than twice per week, or have short notice spots available for others in similar situations to mine.

Being Realtors, we are always searching for high quality people to help us with issues that arise with our home selling and buying. Trying to find a Structural Engineer that is willing to drop everything and evaluate a problem found in the initial home inspection, is a daunting task. We found Justin on Angie's List and he is everything that previous reviews stated. He was more than willing to work within our time frame, was on time this morning for the appointment, was professional and proficient in analyzing and recommending what needed to be done. We highly recommend him for any contractor/structural issues you may want fixed or built. We are grateful to have found him and plan on using him many times in the future. Even the listing agent was so impressed, she asked for his cards and plans on using him to fix the issue that came up with this house.

CASNA DESIGN
5.0
CASNA Design provided us the blueprint not just for our house but our home--and how we enjoy our lives in it. My husband and I were elated with the architectural design plan and are thrilled with the outcome! Mr. Castillo Navia listened to us and brought our vision to life, presenting us an interior design book to solidify our wishes, and inspiring us further with his own artistic ideas. He provided us fully-completed architectural and sealed structural engineering sets of drawings. One aspect meaningful to us was his focus on customer care, which afforded such a wonderful experience. He is a consummate professional: not only highly skilled and cutting-edge, but also passionate about his work and his field. He was responsive and punctual, with transparent and competitive pricing. From start to finish, he made the process as smooth as possible, including helping us question potential contractors and compare bids, and handling the complicated permitting process. We are so happy we used CASNA Design and highly recommend the firm!

Bracken Engineering

I called this company after doing research on Angie's List. I spoke to the receptionist regarding my problem with moisture/water leaking in through foundation and damaging my hardwood floors. She transferred me to her project manager's voicemail. I left a message for this project manager, but never heard back from her. Since I didn't hear back from her, I had to call Bracken again, this time I got through to the project manager. I explained to her my problem, but she was not very patient in explaining how the process would work, what her company would be doing, etc. All she stated was, " it will be around $2200-2500 for us to come out to take a look at it". I then called another structural engineering firm(also from angie's list), they were so much better, they explain what they would be doing when they come out to the house. I was on the phone with them for about 25 minutes and made an appointment for them to come out.

I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THIS COMPANY DID WHAT THEY DID; PERHAPS THEY WERE TOO BUSY FOR A PROJECT LIKE OURS AFTER THE HURRICANES. WHAT BOTHERED ME THE MOST WAS THAT NO EXPLANATION WAS OFFERED FOR THIS HUGE INCREASE WHEN THE ESTIMATE WAS RE SUBMITTED TO US IN OCTOBER AND NO REASONABLE EXPLANATION WAS EVER OFFERED. THE COMPANY'S ONLY RESPONSE WAS TO FED EX ME A LETTER RETRACTING ANY OFFERS TO DO BUSINESS WITH US!

EMA Structural Forensic Engineers

EMA was condescending and rude. I emailed them for information and pricing. Their quote for consulting and providing papers for permitting was $2,250, triple the price of what multiple contractors told me it would cost to ACTUALLY remove the wall ($750). I was surprised. I thought for sure they thought I was a big commercial place or it was a bigger job than it was, so I emailed back to confirm. Their response was awful, condescending and really rude. Here are the emails word for word: Hello, I'm trying to find a structural engineer to tell me if a wall in my home is load bearing or not, and if it can safely be removed. Do you do that kind of work? I'm in Clearwater, FL, and I'm having a really hard time trying to find a professional to look at it. Any help you could give me would be appreciated. All the best, (my name) ________________ Yes, we do this type of structural work. The engineer visit will be billed at $750.00 and if we need to do any calculations and prepare plans for permits it will be additional $1500.00 Maria Kalim EMA Structural Forensic Engineers ________________ Oh wow. Just to look at the wall and attic space in my little house? That seems like a lot. I mean, it would probably only take 30 minutes, if that, for a pro to take a look. All the best, (my name) ________________ Engineers don't come to your house for free. You shall look for a Chinese one or some bonded labor. ________________

We had some structural issues. I had a couple of structural companies come out, but did not want the job as it was too small or they could not figure what should be done. People who install tile or hardwood floors would not dare pull up the plywood floor to see what was going on as they are not engineers. All they could suggested was to place some type of leveling compound to help level out the floor, but I had this done before and did not completely level the floors. The floor needed a structure engineer such as Justin that was willing to do a small job. It was a small job, but took several days. After speaking with Justin, he sent his best guy Ed over and was there the next day. Some days he had a crew of 4 or 5 people. The job did keep growing, but it needed be done. I felt Justin knew what he was doing when he told Ed how to level one part of the kitchen. The previously day I had typed on U-Tube” how to level floors”, a guy in Scotland demonstrated how to level 100 year old houses and those guys are experts as there are plenty 100 year old houses in Scotland. Justin instructed Ed to level the same way as the Scotland guy on U-Tube. After that, I felt very comfortable with Justin. Actually, this procedure reinforced the joists of our house. I needed someone who knew what they are doing when it comes to modifying the construction of house joists. Thank goodness I found Justin on Angie’s list that someone else had mention his company’s name. I googled Heavenly Foundations and called and left a message, Justin call me back that day and made an appointment to come out to look at the job the very next day. To my surprise I felt confident in Justin when he came out as so many times people did not want to touch anything structural or did not want the job. I also liked Justin calm demeanor and southern accent. I was very happy with the job Ed and the guys did. I would definitely use Justin again.

WISDOM STRUCTURAL
2.0
Experience 1, January 2009: Wisdom Structural was initially hired to do structural/foundation repair on a wood frame1920's bungalow that I was in the process of purchasing. The house is raised off the ground and sits on brick support piers. The whole house is made of wood. The wood floor joists in the front right corner of the house had some termite damage (structurally compromised), and several support piers were in need of repair. Wisdom Structural was recommended to me by the house inspector. They came out and wrote up an estimate and we hired then to perform the work (the seller actually paid for this work). The work that they performed in 2009 on the floor joists and support piers was good. I had the inspector come back out and look at it. The work was also performed in a timely manner. However, this this leads me to my next experience with Wisdom. Experience 2, December 2010: We had some rodents get into a in the wall in the front right corner of the house. I crawled under the house to investigate. It turns out that the rodents were getting through a hole in a termite damaged piece of wood near an exterior wall. This was exactly in the area that Wisdom had repaired the floor joists. The hole allowed the rodents to get inside of the wall. I went outside and removed the wood siding in this same area, and found that all of the wall framing was terribly termite damaged. Evidently, the termites, had eaten the floor joists and continued up the wall. This is in a corner of my house that is load bearing. In fact, this corner is supporting about 1/4 the weight of my roof. Evidently, when performing the structural repairs on the floor, Wisdom didn't think to mention that the termites probably also continued up and into the wall. In hindsight, this seems like common sense to me. I called Wisdom to come back out to look at it - along with 3 other contractors - and they told me that they charged 100 dollars to do an investigation/estimate. All of the other contractors offered free estimates. When the Wisdom employee came out for the estimate, I asked him why they didn't think to investigate the extent of any further structural damage if the floor structure had been so badly damaged by termites. He told me they had only been asked about the floor, so that's all they fixed. To me this seems quite lazy. In fact, almost negligent. It would seem that a structural engineer working in a state that has lots of termite damage would have thought of this. Furthermore as the buyer of the house, if they had told me about this, I would have insisted that the seller fix it. It would have been free money for Wisdom Structural. The Wisdom employee left after taking measurements, and I never received the written estimate, or a follow up call regarding the issue. Other reviewers on here have made similar comments regarding punctuality/professionalism of this company. All of the other contractors that I contacted responded with free estimates within 2-3 business days. Conclusion: My review might sound like I am angry that Wisdom didn't find an issue with a house that I purchased, so I blame them for purchasing it. This is not the case. I am an electrical engineer. I have fairly extensive experience with home repair, especially with older homes. I do all my own electrical, plumbing, carpentry, general maintenance. The only things that I hire out are major structural work and HVAC. I also realize that buying a house is a gamble and that sometimes you are stuck with more work than you originally thought (especially with older homes). The work that Wisdom did do initially was good. I gave them good marks for Price and Quality. However, I think that as engineers, that they should have at least mentioned or investigated the full extent of the damage. Also, they never even sent me the estimate for the follow up work to fix the damaged wall. Therefore, I gave this company very low marks for Responsiveness, Punctuality, and Professionalism. I would not use them again.

Recent Review: Very professional and helpful! I received conflicting info. from contractors if one of our walls was load barring, and it was nice to have the piece of mind from a structural engineer to give us an actual answer! If your in doubt whether or not your wall is load barring or not, don't take the risk - call a structural engineer!

Recent Review: Steve called 15mns prior to say he would be 5-10mns late to his appointment. I really appreciated the call considering most people would not even do so for just 5-10mns delay. I thought it showed punctuality and professionalism. Then he also showed the extent of knowledge in identifying a complicated case of the slab getting humid from under. He concluded to a broken french drain which is not efficient enough as well as sliding door track which accumulates water from under and get it in the slab.

Recent Review: Vinny and his team were great!! We needed to get the work done quickly as we were selling our house and needed the work done before we closed. Heather at the office worked extra hard to get the permits pulled and were able to fit us in sooner than I thought they would be able to. The workers were extremely polite and professional. They have done work twice on my house and both times we had a great experience.

What do customers in Tampa say about Retaining Wall Installation?

In addition to the standard home inspection service, my RE agent recommended I have a structural engineer come out. The home had a sinkhole 14 years ago, but there is little to no paperwork available now. I called their office and had to leave a message, but my call was returned within 2 minutes. As soon as I gave them the details, they began looking online for more information. I was impressed. I remained impressed throughout the process. They were prompt, thorough, polite, and explained what I should expect about their work and the report. Once the inspection was done and the report was sent to me, they followed up to see if I had any questions. Not only do I feel better about the purchase, the report provided additional support to send to the insurance company. I have already passed their information along to a neighbor with some structural concerns of her own.
