Their work is not yet finished, many months (6 or more) after they agreed to do the work. Twice parts were incorrect for our fireplace, so the installers left, saying parts had to be sent back and reordered. We leave for the summer tomorrow so they say they will return in the fall to finish. We have had a gas fireplace installed in 2 other houses in 2 days, so we are astounded by Chimney Cricket's service. (or lack there of) The phone is not often answered and calls are not always returned. We will not be return customers.

The service technician (Buzz), was very professional, knowledgeable, and informative. He took apart the entire fireplace, cleaned all the parts that were usable, and replaced the parts that had failed due to age (12 years), he even spray painted the fireplace metals that were starting to rust with a heat resistant paint. Buzz came in and was very careful not to make any mess, he created a work are with a plastic sheet, before beginning the repair process. After fixing the fireplace, he gave me a detailed explanation of how to care for and take care of the fireplace. He spent 2 hours at our home, and when he left, our fireplace looked brand new, Buzz did a really good job, and I would highly recommend this company.

They came in and checked the gas pressure, checked for a gas leak, inspected the fire box, cleaned and adjusted the pilot and burner and cleaned and reset the logs on both fireplaces. They also cleaned glass wall assembly on both fireplaces. I thought they were excellent. He was running late and called to tell me about it. He followed up and I would highly recommend him.

I am so upset by how rude and ridiculous my experience just was with Eddie from Advanced Gas Works. He was referred by the company that installed my gas fireplace and they told me he gave free estimates. I called and told him over the phone that I had changed the batteries in the remote and inside the fireplace, and it was not working. He said to text him my address and he could possibly come out the same day. Around 3:30pm I text to see if he was still going to be able to make it and he said "not today." No attempt for rescheduling. I text him again this morning and asked if he thought he could come today and he said yes. When he arrived he asked again if I changed the batteries and I said yes. Apparently there are 2 sets of batteries in there, 4 AA and 2 D and I only knew about one set. I grabbed the D batteries and he popped them in - he was here for no more than 5 minutes. Then he tells me I owe him $85 for a service call. When I looked at him wide-eyed, he said he would drop it to $65. I said that the fireplace company told me he gave free estimates and he said no, and that he had been burned before since it cost him time and gas to get there. I totally understand that, but he never told me there would be a fee for a service call and I was under the impression that it would be a free estimate. I would have gladly paid him SOMETHING for his time, but even $65 for 5 minutes when I know he was already in my area was unreasonable. As I was writing the check, I told him he should have at least informed me over the phone that there was going to be a service charge before booking the appointment and he kept talking over me, saying that I wanted him to give his services away for free! That is not what I was saying at all, and kept trying to explain that he should at least give a new customer information on his fees when they first contact him. He continued to argue with me, saying that he had been burned so many times. After he was so rude, I handed him the check and said I was sorry but I would not be calling him for service again. He responded: "That's ok, I am completely fine with that." He continued to argue with me the whole way out the door. I am completely in shock at a business owner's lack of regard for customer satisfaction or his reputation! Awful experience!!

Carl was excellent. He covered and protected my floor around the fireplace before beginning. He then thoroughly cleaned and even spray painted the inside of my fireplace and repaired it totally, when no other company could fix it. He replaced the wall switch that operates the fireplace and now it all looks and works better than it ever has! He spent nearly 2 hours working on it and his price was very, very reasonable. He couldn’t have been nicer or more professional and he completely cleaned up when he was finished. I highly recommend Carl of Fireplaces & Stoves MD to anyone and everyone who would need his services.

We contacted Eddie on Friday, January 10th, because, after taking three days to get an answer from the Heat-N-Glo recommended service provider, we were advised that January 30th was the first available appointment. Eddie said he could service the fireplaces the next day, Saturday, January 11th. He said he could be at our residence by 11AM. He arrived at 10AM, repaired each unit, replaced parts as necessary, and was done in less than two hours.

Eddie arrived just before his quoted time and quickly determined that it was our ignition switch and that the pilot light was clogged. He repaired the items with parts that he had on his truck. He put the fireplace back together and now it works like a charm. We look forward to using it tonight now that the evenings have cooled down outside. Eddie was very professional and courteous and understood our needs. I will probably use him to install a tankless water heater in the near future.

Recent Review: Carl did an excellent job. He was very thorough - cleaning and inspecting our condo gas fireplace. He noted that this was obviously the first service for this fireplace. (condo was built in 2003). He found a bare wire inside the fireplace which he fixed. He cleaned all of the soot off the walls and glass. Everything looks excellent. This is the second home in which Carl has serviced a gas fireplace for us. I would highly recommend Carl.

Recent Review: We had a pretty good idea of what we wanted, but Jack discussed various ideas and options with us. His estimate was very detailed and competitive. They took care of all the permitting, which can be challenging in Pinellas county. The crew always cleaned up each day before they left. They always made sure the house was closed up and secure at night even after they'd cut big holes in the wall. We were in constant communication, so I felt like I was a part of the process and there were no surprises. Ryan did most of the work, sometimes with a helper. It's obvious that he truly cares about the quality of the work that he does. I didn't feel like he cut any corners or skimped on anything. He even put some extra reinforcing in the wall because he knew we were going to hang a large TV. Colin did the woodworking for the mantle and surround. We had numerous pictures and hand-drawn diagrams of what we wanted. He worked with us to integrate all that into the final vision. And he nailed it. The mantle is fantastic. Their attention to detail is superb. The tile we chose is a 1"x3" herringbone that was shipped from out of state and arrived with lots of little broken tiles. Those two spent an entire day replacing each damaged little piece with a good one so the hearth is perfect. I know people like to say they couldn't be happier, but in our case it's true. The finished product is exactly what we wanted and provided the room with a much-needed makeover. When we remodel our master bath in the next couple years, these guys will be on the top of our list.

Recent Review: The previous owner had installed a large Thermidor kitchen range hood with a roof mounted blower. Apparently rather than cutting a new hole for that vent he disconnected the gas fireplace vent pipes and ran the range hood 25' across the attic and into the chimney leaving the fireplace to vent into the attic. He also bent up the pipes from the fireplace venting and used them to support the duct he ran to vent the hood. Florida Fireplace Systems was able to track down replacement parts for the fireplace even though the manufacturer is no longer in business. Everything for the fireplace was restored back to the way it was before the previous owner mangled it. They also fabricated a stainless plate for the roof top blower from the hood to sit ,remounted the blower on the roof, reran the duct work from the hood and hooked the wiring back up for the hood. I am now able to safely use both the fireplace and hood. The staff was extremely helpful and really went out of their way to help me rather than just selling me something new and they made several trips to my property to properly coordinate the work with the roofing contractor that was replacing my roof at the same time.

Recent Review: When I called they said the earliest a technician to come was 5 January 2012 so we set it up. They do not give an estimated time the technician would be there so I dedicated the day at home to wait. When the technician arrived he did not seem to have good knowledge of gas fireplaces and had to call his service manager for advice. He finally decided I needed a new gas valve and that would have to be special ordered. He said someone from their office would contact me with a price and time for delivery. This service call cost $100. I didn't hear anything from Heritage for about two weeks and finally called them to find out what was happening. They tracked down the service manager and I learned that the gas valve was supposed to come in to them on 24 Jan and they would call to set up an install appointment when it arrived. I called them again on 30 January when nothing was heard and spoke to Heather who couldn't find anything in their records but promised to call me back with status after she talked with the service manager. She did not call back that day or the following day. I finally sent an email to a sales rep at Heritage threatening to take my business elsewhere, including propane purchase, unless they got out there within two days to fix it. He got back to me and said the tech would be there on Thursday 2 January. The tech, different from the first visit, came on 2 January and began installation of the gas valve. He said he would also replace the flame sensor and thermocouple because it was bad. I asked if that could have been the problem all along so he hooked up the new sensors to the existing gas valve and it worked fine. It was mis-diagnosed the first time. All of the waiting could have been eliminated had it been done right originally. This was a combination of poor technical work and lousy customer service.

They had to come out 2 times - once for the initial inspection to find out what was wrong, and another time to replace the switch. I think it was a little expensive for the 15-minutes it took to change our what essentially is a light switch, but the guys were nice and prompt.
