Reviews in Tampa Bay for Cabinet Hardware Installation

Crown & Trim by Design
5.0
I was able to install the hardware for my bathrooms, however when it came to the kitchen it required someone with expertise. The hardware was a bar requiring two holes. Any variance in the width between the two holes and distance from the cabinet door edge would have been noticiable and and worst unable to install the handle itself.

Not at all well. Despite being more expensive than other estimates we went with Dreammaker thinking their specialty with kitchens would be an advantage. Firstly from the time we gave them a 50% deposit until they actually started the work was 2 months! That was after waiting a month for them to give us an estimate. The owner, Ernest, never gave any indication it would take so long. He just said his construction manager would contact us. Bob, the construction mgr. Was not good at communicating. I had to constantly call him as he not once contacted me first. I also had to call him sometimes several times for him to call me back. He was not on top of his paperwork. We could not initiate work without our prior signature which he would forget to give us, delaying all the work.it took 7weeks to complete a rather small job. Bob only came to the house one time once the work began. He did not oversee any of the work nor the final product. On the several occasions I tried to contact Ernest, he never took my call and had his receptionist follow up. While the quality of the workmen was excellent(which is why I'm giving them a C instead of an F), the experience with this company was beyond awful. This is the 6th kitchen remodel I have had done over the years and by far the worst.

I visited Johnnie's store across from Kane's Furniture in St. Pete. Instead of looking at samples, we could see a large selection of cabinets already in place on walls. They also had a large selection of cabinet hardware to choose. Then we went outside to the granite yard and picked out our granite from another huge selection of choices. We matched the granite with the cabinets by using a door from the actual cabinets we selected. Johnnie Oldja is very friendly and very customer-oriented and their prices are very reasonable. Even after I paid them they have responded promptly and corrected any of the minor requests that I had. They are a perfect match with Premier Pro Construction being the General Contractor and Oldja supplying the cabinets and granite because they have worked together many times and are both excellent in their field. I did a lot of research before I selected and this was also the most reasonable price combination.

The experience was perfect! Trish and Bob came over a couple of times with samples and helped us pick out what we wanted. They were quite patient as it took us a while to make up our minds. There was a 4-5 week wait for the doors, etc to be manufactured, and then they came to install. They took 4 days to do everything, and kept the entire kitchen spotless while they did it. The doors and wood are excellent, the fit and finish perfect, the extra trim and cabinet hardware excellent, - all round everything we could have wished for. Their prices were lower than other estimates, and they did extra things (like refacing the bottom of the upper cabinets, fixing drawer slides, and installing trim) which other companies acted like were optional extras. They just took care of everything. Above all, we felt that we could trust them, something hard to describe exactly, but they are the only workers (we have had several things done recently) whom we felt we could just give them a house key and leave. Their attention to detail is excellent. Their cleaning up every night is not only laudable, but seems to indicate an attitude of sensitivity toward the customers feelings that is all too rare. We highly recommend them to anyone.

We worked with owner, Robert, to design the perfect home office that is both functional and beautiful. We absolutely love our office. Robert met with us at our house to understand our requirements and took measurements of the room. He told us about his company and the products he installs. As we talked through the design, Robert let me know what added more cost and some alternatives. We definitely wanted a window seat flanked with bookcases to the ceiling. We knew we wanted a long surface top for optimal workspace. Within a few days Robert sent us a 3D drawing by email. This was such a great help to visualize the room and make adjustments. With my husband and I often working at home, we were very particular with storage, keyboard trays to accommodate ergonomic keyboards, pull-out equipment drawer hidden by cabinet doors, upgraded cabinet hardware, upgraded countertop, locks on some drawers, and lighting. Robert incorporated all these requirements into our design. He worked around our schedule and arranged our installation a few days after our hardwood floors were installed. On the day of installation his crew was courteous and professional. They didn't mind me taking a peak (often) while they were working. When we were moving into the home office, we noticed a few minor issues. Robert responded quickly and resolved all the items. We are in process of working with Robert to install a custom closet system in our master bedroom walk-in closet.

Everything was wonderful. Chuck and his team are absolutely amazing. When we called for an estimate Chuck came in here with confidence and had amazing ideas that really paid off and show in the pictures. His price was way below other competitors. (I had about 6 estimates) They completed the entire job in about 7 work days... Came in on time and left promptly at the same time being sure to clean up as much as possible. Covered our furniture with cloths so they wouldn't get dusty. THE BEST PART ABOUT CHUCK AND HIS COMPANY is his attention to detail. Every little space and corner looked like perfection. He didn't miss anything and wasn't sloppy. He wouldn't stop until it was perfect...(and he didn't add on to the price for this luxury.) Absolutely wonderful experience.

I was referred to Mike by my dentist and called him that day. I received a phone call back the same day and scheduled for Mike to come over the next day. He arrived promptly and was respectful and curtious. He created a list of the work that needed to be done and within one day I had an estimate. Mike's prices were very fair. We scheduled the time for him to come over for the beginning of the next week. He arrived on time and went to work immediately. All work was done within the time frame promised. He arrived on time daily. The quality of Mike's work was very good. I would hire him again. Actually, I left him a message today scheduling him to come back and install our new kitchen faucet!

Oldja Enterprises Kitchen & Bath
5.0
Johnny (the younger Oldja) was extremely attentive to communicating with us and very flexible around our schedule. He also was not at all bothered when our sink didn't arrive on time and the work had to be delayed. He and John (his dad) worked with me before the job to figure out the best layout for the cabinets to optimize my space. We opted for drawers in a couple places instead of cabinet doors, and I'm very glad I did. They drawers are much better for organization and make it easy to create kitchen work zones. The install team from Pelican was great. They worked hard and fast, and were very easygoing, and did excellent workmanship. They asked me for my preferences as applicable -- where on the cabinets did I want the knobs installed, where did I want the glass-front cabinet placed, which of two ways did I prefer to have the shelving corners look. When it was time to put up the tile backsplash, the whole Peninsula Construction crew and I worked together to figure out the best possible option for arranging the tiles' color and spacing and putting the diamond inserts between them. So this brings up the main point: You should plan to have someone onsite during the work. There are many ongoing decisions for the homeowner to make and questions to answer. This is the best way to ensure that the result is what you want. For example, when the countertop installation crew, a separate crew was finishing up, I had to show them exactly where I wanted the faucet holes drilled. I also had to tell them how wanted the granite windowsill installed. Do your research in advance so you have a very good idea of what features you want in your final kitchen. Think a lot about how you will use the kitchen and what tools -- pots and pans, etc. -- you will be using and where, so that the storage is adequate. You can even do "pretend" dry runs for how you will cook; it's very eye-opening. Sure, you are limited by the space, but you can shift over the stove, for example, so there's more counter space on one side than the other. And this planning process really helps in making sure that you'll be a happier cook by having the right space in the right place. Having work centers with the tools closest to where you will use them saves steps and aggravation. Johnny suggested installing a pantry opposite the kitchen counter and I'm very glad we did that, too. It's fantastic to have everything I need close at hand. This pantry was the most expensive piece, but I love it and am so happy to have it. Behind the doors, it comes with shelves on top and rollout drawers on the bottom. The other main thing I would suggest is that before you schedule the day for the remodeling work to begin, have all the pieces that you as the homeowner are supplying on hand. This includes any new appliances, knobs and pulls, under-cabinet lighting, sink, and faucet. It took 3 tries for my plumbling supplier to get the sink that I wanted delivered correctly (a process that spanned 3 weeks, and I had only allowed one week). Fortunately Johnny was OK with this, even though it caused a delay in the job for him, but it would have been much better if I'd already had it on hand. And I was told that the under-cabinet lighting would be the last thing worked on, so I delayed in getting those supplies. Then the crew asked, where are the lights, and I had to run out to the store for them during my workday. So the best advice I can give on this is to have all supplies on hand first. It was a little disconcerting to hear the work crew say that one set of cabinets was slightly too wide for the space. But fortunately this is something they regularly encounter, Johnny said, he had an easy fix for it. Overall we are thrilled and feel that we got a great bargain and a beautiful kitchen. Thank you to the Oldjas and their crews, and to the gentlemen workers from Peninsula. Don't hesitate to use this team. Just be prepared to be an active participant and communicator with them. You'll be glad you did.

Bill Parr was heinous. The last day he was nice and professional was the first day we handed him a check, 50% of the total payment. Job was $46,000 to him, plus $20,000 to his preferred appliance vendor (read: forces you to use, and aggressively belittles otherwise, as he gets cuts on hardware etc.) And the job with floors was 111,000 - so he should have been very happy we were willing to pay that much so that he could get his 46,000 and other kickbacks. Yet, as soon as we gave him the 50% down, he was huffy with any phone calls. Another person using him at same time said she was belittle by him for being the woman, man should make the money decisions, can't she (Snell Isle?!?) afford to just buy the hardware through him? (We bought cabinet hardware through him - so he got his cut - yet others who say "I can find this cheaper elsewhere get aggression from him). He added at $1,000 "project management" fee. I used to be a PM. He PM'd nothing. Completely reactive. My husband and I had to prompt him 2 months after we wrote him that big check - hey - shouldn't we be making some key decisions, appliances etc? He was like "Oh, yeah, so - go down to this store and make some pix." (When originally they sold us on all the high touch consulting they do and on how his girlfriend Peggy is a designer to help with design decisions. No offense to her, but she was mis-sold. When it came to backsplash decisions, she just smiled and nodded. Our installer was the only one who knew about finishes, layout etc. Bill really missold things. And then when communication repeatedly broke down, he owned nothing - and literally blamed others on his team. Blamed Brian our awesome amazing perfectionists cabinet installer with whom we spent over a month peacefully. He blamed Pavimento when HE forgot about a granite decision change that HE prompted because HE came over and said "I've got an idea." He was last minute on things. And whereas other people could handle simple questions (Brian, Pavimento, our floor workers). Again, if we called to check on things, he'd say "Just call my girlfriend Peggy - I'm in the field, I'm in the field." We'd call Peggy and she'd say "Uh -I'll have to check with Bill on that." At one point he went off the handle because at the last minute he randomly proposed a change, we said no, stick with the original plan, and he then said 'You people have it in for me!!!" So freaky. And when we gave him the balance of the massive payment, he didn't even look us in the eye. Just kept eye on check. Yet - everyone else that was here - we got along great. We even had a floor company really make a big mistake, yet the owner (Sean, Seer) was awesome and just dealt with it like an owner. Said "Hey - I see that got damaged, we'll make it right, let's talk through the options." That's normal - how business and relationships move forth. But Bill would bristle at even a QUESTION. And then if he's clearly made a mistake (we have e-mail chains to prove - so when he denied something we'd agreed, he refuted, so we had to bring up the e-mail, and then he stormed out - as if leaving would make the issue go away. Such a horrible experience with him. And there were so many errors that we had to micro manage and predict - and bring together communication to solve issues - yet at the end he wouldn't even discount his $1000 PM fee by 10%. ZERO reach to connect with customer. And electrical issues occurred with the lights inside the cabinet, and we'd paid $2200 for bill's electrician to come install, but b/c Bill was on point to solve the issue, he REFUSED to call the electrician back b/c that would cost HIM money. SO on 3 occasions (project ended late July) - so in late August, then last Sept and early Oct - he came back, climbed up ladder in our kitchen, and fiddled. And when I said "Bill - why don't you call a professional electrician - we paid top dollar for a pro job." He said "Get over yourself, this is low voltage, I can do this." I was literally shaking the last time he left. Still have a bit of an issue in one cabinet, but never want him in house again.

AGS Stone
2.0
My first 2 visits to AGS I met with Penny who is the one that sold me on this company. She has since left. Picking out the granite and sink went well.Their price was fair/reasonable. They were on time for all appointments. Now that the job is finished, these are the issues as I see them. 1. The guys that came out to do the template, placed foam sheets on the countertops. I was asked to sign off on all edges and trusting these guys, I did. The granite was installed as scheduled. I was in the room for most of the install. This was not my first go-round with having granite installed. 2. The granite was not cut/fabricated so that the stove would fit in the opening, or it was measured incorrectly. Therefore, to get the half inch needed, they slid the granite to the left. That means that the granite over hangs past the wall a half inch. Where there is an angle the granite doesn't fit there, but they assured me that the backsplash would cover it. I was not happy with the overhang but they finished off the end to make it smooth and I made the mistake of saying it was ok. Since I had the stove installed, another issue of the piece of granite along the back is too wide not allowing the stove to slide in properly. Problem 3 - the granite was chipped - a 3/4 in wide and 1/2 in high chip in the front by the sink. They assured me that this happens all the time, although I find it difficult to believe that the granite was shipped out from AGS with a 3/4 in chip that would be on the seam in front of the sink. They filled it with black epoxy which I would not accept. The one guy scraped the epoxy with a file and filled in the spot with a gray color so that your eye is not drawn to that area. The other guy was frustrated with me and went out for a cigarette. I accepted the epoxy patch rather than have a new piece of granite cut. I checked all of the work, and signed the papers. After they left I saw a mark on my new stove. It was new, it had been there a few days. The stainless was scratched, and a mark where something dropped on the stainless does not come off. I called AGS and spoke with Alex. He assured me they would do a complete investigation. He called me a few days later and told me that he trusted these guys and their professionalism and they said they didn't do it and that I was in the room to see most of the install. I was in the room for most of the install, and I saw the tools placed on my unprotected brand new stove. I got a pad and put it on top. Many tools including the caulking gun were placed on top of that stove. I was insulted that that Alex just said he believed his guys. I insisted that they send someone out to see the stove. Of course, when he showed up he said there is no way they could have done it. I get that it is a he said/she said thing. I get that the stove was new and they believe it was a manufacture issue. It's not. I just think the not fitting, overhang, chip, and then the scratch were more than I could accept to give them a higher rating. They also used a hammer to knock out the drywall to get the granite in. Because of the stove and the way I was treated (their guys say they didn't do it, so they didn't), I would not recommend them to anyone. There was smoking outside my house and in my garage. There were plastic butts from a cigar type cigarette left in the driveway. The garage was not cleaned up. The one guy was on the phone almost the whole time he was there. It wasn't until I mentioned that I was a member of Angie's list that I got a call from Gary, the owner, who asked what I wanted because they wanted to "work this out although they would not commit to any financial reimbursement". On his previous conversations with me, he backed his workers and his son Alex's decision to do nothing. When I said I wanted the stove fixed, he told me to rub toothpaste on it, that would take out scratches, and he gave me the name of a gentleman that removes scratches from stainless steel. I called the man and he said he couldn't help me due to a number of things including the placement of the controls etc. I ended up calling GE to get information about replacement parts only to find out that GE said they would replace the piece under warranty. So there was no expense to Gary and AGS. All they had to do was treat me with respect and consider that the customer may be right, but they believe their installers over the customer. We were going to use them for our backsplash, cabinet hardware, and our bathrooms. Too many other granite/tile places around to use these guys. Oh - by the way - I was sent 5 different invoices and not one was correct. I finally refused to accept another and paid the last one as it was sent to me. I never asked them for $. I only wanted my kitchen done right. I still have granite that extends beyond the wall a half inch, a stove that will not completely slide in, and large epoxy chip in front. You decided if you want to use them. btw - Customers should not be signing off on template measurements. The company should know how to measure countertops and cut granite.
