SEAN'S RENOVATION INC

Project went great! A previous owner had built a 2nd floor bathroom extension over a porch that sprung a leak through the porch. Sean was able to salvage much of the structure, make key repairs, and re-craft the bathroom extension to match the house (Victorian). Sean also did a full bathroom remodel. Incredible communicator, very collaborative design process, thoughtful and thorough work, great attention to detail. Would often arrive in the morning with a "I was thinking about it last night and would recommended we..." We've already hired Sean for another big project (3rd floor renovation). Total price of $55,000 was tied for most competitive of 4 bids received. Note that ~half was to repair and rebuild structure and the other ~half was for a full, large bathroom remodel.

Val, Paul and the guys are amazing! I'm picky, very picky. These guys were meticulous. Every detail, the clean up each day, all of it was excellent. They suggested things I didn't think of to make the finished room perfect. I will definitely hire them again.

Overall, I really enjoyed working with Great Lakes. I had the same two guys come out and install my bathroom (Hassan and Mike). The remodel took 3 days. They were professional and courteous; on time and cleaned up the area every night. Hassan kept me in the loop for changes and asked for my opinions when it came to placing certain pieces in the shower. My only complaint would be in communication between Great Lakes home office. After my consultation, I was told I would receive samples of the vanity color and countertop (for painting) which didn't happen & the person I was to contact had left the company so my emails were not getting through and I had to contact the office and explain my issue. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this company to my family and friends.

Very well. We needed handicapped updates (higher toilets & grab bars), and also a new vanity top. Tom’s contract was thorough. The price was moderately high, but dialogue made us comfortable. As it turned out, Tom encountered problems ( rotten drain pipe connecting to the sink, adding trim needed because we wanted the vanity higher, adding additional outlets to the backslash, etc. He admits “I am not a plumber or electrician”, but that only means “licensed”. In reality he accomplishes the required tasks w/o having to call in help: and solves problems that others would have upped the costs. He only charged us for the extra parts required to correct the issues, and not the labor (and he had to make several trips for parts).

APEX Construction Management LLC

I filled out the contact page on Apex's website (linked from Angie's List) looking to get a quote on a bathroom upgrade, which I assumed would involve scheduling a visit. I did receive a reasonably prompt reply; however, that reply was simply to ask for a phone number for Apex to call me. I responded with my phone number and an explanation that I had not included it in the first place, because email is a far more effective and efficient way to communicate with me. I then received a few voicemails from Apex, but never providing anything other than a request to call them back. On at least one of these occasions, I was actually home, but did not answer the call, because, for reasons I can't explain, whatever phone system Apex uses does not identify itself to my caller ID, and I do not answer unidentified calls. After a couple weeks of this, I followed up with another email, re-explained the situation, and asked if they could reply via email with whatever information they needed from me to move forward, and I would supply it. Again, I received a reasonably prompt email reply, stating that they always ask three questions: 1) description of work to be done, 2) budget, and 3) time frame. I was a little put off by the request for a job description, since I had provided that with the initial contact form, but I figured that since we were at least corresponding now, I'd humor them. I provided another (fairly detailed) description of what I was looking to have done, as well as the time frame I was looking to have the work completed (at the time, about 4-5 months in the future). In regard to the budget, I again explained that I was looking for quotes, so that while I did have an ideal figure I was hoping to stay within (which I also provided), I was more interested in getting a quote from them than worrying about how much I was able/willing to spend. That was five weeks ago, and I've never heard anything more from them. I don't know if they just decided my job was too small (if so, why do they advertise that they do bathrooms?), if they just couldn't be bothered to via email (if so, why do they have a contact form on their website?), if they just didn't want to put something in writing (which would be a major red flag if so), or some other reason. Regardless, they've apparently decided they don't even want to schedule a visit, let alone provide a quote and hopefully score some business. If hired, they may do great work, but if they make it this difficult just to schedule a visit to get a quote, I can only imagine what a nightmare of communication actually working with them could turn into.

Rehabbers Choice LLC

Josh completely gutted and renovated our outdated bathroom in our 1940's house in South Minneapolis. He is a very straightforward and reasonable contractor to work with. With most renovations, there are issues that arise and we certainly had our fair share, from late arriving tile and a poorly constructed vanity, to plumbing and electrical issues. Not one of these problems was due to Josh. However Josh was always ready with either an answer, or the patience and flexibility to work around the problem. Our bathroom looks incredible. I am extremely happy that we chose to work with Josh on this project. I would highly recommend Rehabbers Choice LLC.

Platinum Remodeling & Handyman Services

The bathroom in our 1911-built home was falling apart. The tub's hot water faucet was totally broken, spun completely around and didn't do a thing. We had to turn the faucet on and off by lifting a countertop and using the shut-off valve. 1950's plastic tile was falling off the walls. Original 100-plus year-old linoleum was disintegrating. Before contacting Platinum, we talked to a good friend, who works for a different remodeling company here in town. He did an estimate for us, which came out at $15,800. Even with this high amount, it was assuming we would provide the cabinets and fixtures, do the painting, etc. We were blown away, and not in a good way. This friend's approach to giving an estimate was basically to bad-mouth our current bathroom in order to explain how much more fabulous it would be after it's done. ("This room has an awful layout." "That tub's so shallow it's not even worth it." etc) He was very interested in relocating the tub plumbing controls to an adjacent closet wall so the tub could be moved 2 or 3 inches closer to the exterior wall. I told him I wasn't interested in moving the tub, but the idea stuck with him. His estimate also didn't include installing a heated floor, which we opted to do in the end. Instead of feeling inspired to renovate and empowered to make decisions, I was left feeling bummed out about my house, and frustrated that I didn't feel I was being heard. We decided our friend is a good friend, but that we didn't want to mix friendship and business, and that we needed a different contractor. We contacted Platinum, and the experience was a night-and-day difference. At first we thought we could get by with a minor cosmetic spruce-up, and wanted Platinum to do some demo work for us, and then install new toilet, cabinets and accessories for us once we were done refinishing the floors and painting the walls. As soon as we started the demo, we realized there was no way to salvage the 1950's plastic tiles on the walls, and there was no pine-plank subfloor for me to refinish. So a bigger renovation it would have to be. Tile walls, wainscoting, chair rail, new toilet, cabinets and heated marble floor were called for. The genius of this company is that it's a hybrid company -- both handyman service and remodeler. I think their job minimum is approximately $150. When you're looking to renovate, usually companies have a much higher minimum job amount, in the thousands of dollars, because they don't take on small jobs. I found Josh to be very cordial and responsive in my initial contact. He handed our job off to his sister Anna, who manages the Small Projects. Anna is wonderful. Super responsive, very helpful, and great at providing suggestions. My 7 year-old son loved her off the bat and invited her to join our family within 5 minutes of meeting her. She did a super job scheduling the workers and subcontractors. It worked like clockwork, and I always knew who would be coming to my house and when. We did most of our communicationns via email, sending links to products back and forth, etc. Really convenient. Dick (Anna and Josh's father) is a great craftstman. He installed the cabinets and most of the woodwork in the bathroom. He's also just a nice person to be around. I was a little sad when Dick packed up his stuff and left. Joe did the tile work and much of the finishing work. He pays great attention to detail, makes sure everything lines up perfectly. You know the best part about my experience? Not one person involved in the project made me stupid, ever! They patiently presented options when my house threw them curve balls, they didn't question my desire to keep our vintage 1950's medicine cabinet and sink, and Anna never laughed at my initial idea of refinishing pine subfloors in a bathroom. Another nice thing is that they were willing to let me do some of the work to keep costs down. I assembled cabinets, demo'd the wall tile and linoleum floor, and did all the painting. I think some contractors have an all-or-nothing approach, where they won't install cabinets if the client assembles them, etc. We also took care of measuring, ordering and installing the granite countertops ourselves. Also, I was not limited to a particular brand, dealer or showroom when it came to selecting fixtures and materials. I found tile and a bath faucet I wanted from California, got the cabinets at IKEA. Anna and I just sat down in my living room with a list of what materials we needed, and agreed to who would be supplying what. It worked out just fine. I provided many of the materials (marble tile, toilet, cabinets, countertops, accessories), so those are not included in the $8,200.00 amount. The Platinum folks were really nice to have around, and always very punctual. I had no qualms about them working in the house when we were not home. They work very hard and do a great job cleaning up the site at the end of each day. Anna is budget-conscious. At no point did I worry that this job was going to run out of control. Plumbing and electrical passed City inspection with zero issues. We hope to renovate our kitchen in a year or two, and when we do, we will call Platinum. Period. We won't even both with multiple estimates. Once you've found a great company, you stick with them.

Recent Review: I initially met with Stephen Clark, who went through the design & contracting process with me, My initial design concept turned out to be too expensive, and Stephen was very good at working with me to revise the design to fit my budget. He was also very good at helping me pick materials. He then turned the project over to a project manager, Dave, who scheduled and coordinated all the sub-contractors who actually performed the work. Dave was very cooperative about adjusting the work start date to fit my schedule. The actual work went pretty smoothly. The main sub-contractor, Jason Collins, was on the job when he said he would be, was very careful about keeping the work area clean, and did his best to minimize the mess in the rest of the house. There were a couple of minor glitches (e.g. a sub-contractor showed up early one morning without prior warning; materials were delivered directly to the house without letting me know in advance), but only one major inconvenience: I had to wait about 2 weeks after the rest of the work was complete before the glass shower door was installed. In the interim, they put a shower curtain in place so I could use the shower - that was an acceptable work-around. Dave and Jason were very quick to take care of punch-list items - and there weren't many. The project was completed about 60 days ago, and I just noticed a potential problem with the drywall tape. I have notified K2 Bath design and they are in the process of correcting it. At this point, I am very satisfied with the project's execution, and my overall experience with K2 Bath Design. I know that I might have paid less for the project with other contractors, but I would have had to do a lot more of the "general contractor" work myself, e.g. purchasing materials and arranging delivery. It was worth it to me to pay slightly more and have K2 Bath Design handle everything for me.

Recent Review: The gentleman that did the work was very professional and did a great job. We are really pleased with how the bathrooms came out! They look clean, crisp and functional. They added a shower to the bathroom where there was just a tub and that really added to the value of the bathroom. We were really happy with the tile type we chose and it was great that there was such a good selection. We recently purchased a new home and I cant wait to have them in to redo the new bathrooms.

Recent Review: Regal Remodelers worked on a bathroom project I had, and I couldn’t be more delighted with their work, and their staff. Mike was very responsive when I left a message, and throughout the work he was clear in his communication about the process and timing. His team was courteous, friendly, and finished up earlier than the predicted timeline. I was concerned about the mess however Regal went over and above to keep the mess to a minimum with protective covering and daily clean up. I will definitely call them again for future projects!

Recent Review: We definitely enjoyed working with Executive Remodeling. They were always friendly and very responsive. We initially went with them because the gave us a reasonably priced and detailed estimate, so we knew exactly what we were paying for. Like any major remodel, there were a few hiccups, but they were more than willing to fix any errors at no cost to us. In the end, we were thrilled with our gorgeous new bathroom and enjoy using it every day!

Recent Review: Very well. Tom gave us an estimate that was easy to stay within. It was very detailed and our requests where met. Payment as in three parts and was easy to manage into our household budget. There was a delay on the things I ordered for the bathroom. Tom kept in touch as to when they could start. He communicated with me about items that would not work and suggested items that would. We chose a shower that he had not installed before and it turned beautiful. They cleaned up at the end of every day. Mess to the area outside of the bathroom was minimal. They worked through the holidays and did not disrupt any of our plans or functions. The bathroom turned out great.
