Reviews in St Paul for Range Hood Installation

Stafford Home Service
2.0
I want to begin by saying that my experience with the electrical side of Stafford was amazing. Couldn't have been better. This review is for the HVAC side of things. When my husband and I bought our house last summer, the inspection noted that the range hood was not properly vented out through the roof; it was blowing air directly into the attic. Seeing as the range hood was already installed, we just needed someone to finish the job, so we decided this would be one of the first things we'd have someone come out to take care of. Dan (one of the owners) came out to do the estimate last December. Vent existing hood to existing opening $386 Replace existing bath fan venting and install proper hood and termination $129 Total: $515 $500 was a bit more than we were wanting to spend at Christmas time, so we decided to hold off. In March, we were contacted by Stafford to see if we'd be interested in proceeding if we were offered a 15% discount. That sounded good to me; so we got on the schedule. Later in March, a tech from Stafford came out to do the job. He came, went up in the attic, and realized that a part that would be needed to connect the top of the range hood to the venting was missing, so he wasn't able to do anything that day. We ordered the part and said we'd contact Stafford as soon as it came in to reschedule the work. Well, the next day, I got a call from Dan at Stafford saying he was going to have to charge us for the visit the previous day. I said, "you want to charge me for the visit even though nothing was done?" He pushed back and said it wasn't Stafford's fault that the part was missing. Then I asked if it was something that could have been noticed in the estimate, and he said yes, but that they typically aren't looking THAT closely at things during an estimate and that he just "popped his head up in the attic" when he came to do the estimate before. I told him that's not what I expect from an estimate and that I was frustrated my husband had had to miss a half day of work for an appointment at which nothing had happened. When I mentioned that I would be including the additional charge in my Angie's List review, he backed off. No charge. When the part finally came in, we rescheduled with Stafford. Neither my husband or myself were going to be able to be home at the time, but they said that wasn't a problem as long as we left them a way to get in. I called them to tell them I'd be leaving the garage remote in a certain location. At the end of the day the work was performed, when I got home, I looked for the garage remote where I had left it, but it wasn't there. I thought that was odd. I thought maybe they weren't done and had taken it with them but thought it was strange that they hadn't called. When I went inside I saw the range hood kind of hanging off the ceiling (it had previously been flush to the ceiling), and then I figured they really WEREN'T done, but I again wondered why they hadn't called to let me know they weren't done. Then I went into the bedroom and looked at the closet (where the access to the attic is), and they had completely taken apart all of the shelves and pins and poles and left them strewn about the bed. At that point I decided to try to call Stafford "after hours" to figure out what was going on: missing garage remote, range hood unfinished, things strewn about. I got a hold of Dan who seemed put out by my call; he kept telling me to send him pictures, so I did. He got ahold of the tech who had come out and the tech confirmed that he had "finished the job." Dan called me back to let me know that everything, as far as Stafford was concerned, was done. He said the garage remote had been left in a different location than where I had left it (somewhere I would NEVER have found). I assume the tech had forgotten where I had put it. After I described the job as "something a fifth grader could have done" and after spending a great deal of time and energy in making my case, Dan agreed not to charge us for the job. For this I was VERY appreciative (and this is why I gave scores of D instead of F). He also offered to come fix it himself, but after three Stafford visits to the house (the estimate, plus the two service visits), I declined this offer. I felt that Dan talked down to me and just wanted to be done with me and not that he wanted to leave me feeling better. He kept saying that he "wouldn't have done anything differently." A couple weeks later, I realized I had never received anything in writing saying that we didn't owe anything and that everything was taken care of, so I called Stafford to inquire and the receptionist said that she wouldn't know anything about that and that I'd have to talk to Dan. When she said that I felt my blood pressure rise because every time I had talked to him I had felt kind of bullied. She put me through, but he wasn't there so I left a message. He called back and left me a message saying that yes, everything was taken care of and that the reason I hadn't gotten anything in writing was because he had just "deleted the work order completely"; like it never happened. I saved the message on my phone in case any issues come up later, but I guess that's as good as it's going to get. The whole HVAC experiences was particularly disappointing because we've used Stafford for a number of years for electrical issues and I had assumed the Stafford brand was one that we could rely on--apparently not

Amazing Husband Handyman Service

Arthur was very quick to respond, helpful and flexible in diagnosing our issue and solutions, and skilled and thorough in his work. I wanted to replace a shelf and countertop microwave above our stove with a new microwave range hood, but wanted some help as it was a two person job, and wanted more confidence in installing a heavy appliance. Arthur came to look and saw that the cabinet above was too tall to fit the appliance, so he first took out and attempted to modify the existing cabinet to fit. After some tinkering, he determined that it would be safer to get a new, shorter cabinet instead as it has to support some of the weight of the microwave. He did not charge me for the time spent on this diversion. I purchased a shorter over-the-range sized cabinet from a box store, and Arthur came back a few days later to install it, a finishing sideboard, and the microwave. He did a good job securing them, and reinstalled the top trim that he had saved when he took out the original. Looks and works great now

ERIC'S HANDYMAN SERVICE

As usual, Eric was excellent to work with. We have hired Eric in the past and will continue to do so. He is extremely reliable and diligent about his work. Installing the dishwasher required some extra effort due to the existing installation and Eric handled everything with remarkable skill. Eric consistently goes above and beyond expectations. He has a broad range of expertise and it certainly shows

OT Heating & Cooling

The job was given a once over review before he started work. He and his assistant put drop cloths down in addition to the cloths we put down to protect our new range hood and countertops. At our request they removed their shoes when moving over the carpet. The job took about 2 1/4 hours (faster than I expected), and his sweeping up/carefully removing the cloths were thorough. The ducting looks good and the range hood now exhausts outdoors, which was our goal

The 2 gentlemen that came worked around whatever physical structures that were there and problem solved when issues arose. I love the outcome and when I cook, the whole house doesn't smell like oil or whatever I'm cooking.

Went very well. He was done in a very short amount of time. Was able to work with the range hood I bought in spite of it not having the cord included, which I didn't know when I purchased it. He used the cord from the microwave instead.

Andy was recommended to us by Warners Stellan as he is the person who installs their stove tops. We gave him a call and he came out to give us an estimate on what would be required. We were having new silestone countertops installed and decided to change out our range top as well. Andy did a great job of telling us what would need to be done and gave us an estimate. We ended up having him do the plumbing on the new sink and install a new garbage disposal as well. The countertops took 3 weeks to come in and Andy was able to fit us in that week to start on the installation. He also came out on Saturday to hook everything up. Nate and Andy did a fantastic job and they were very clean and tidy. They came just at the estimate and that included extra work. we are very pleased and will use him again soon

Scott Register Carpentry and Handyman Services

I wanted to remodel my kitchen and do as much work myself as possible. While I could handle the demo and installation of the new cabinets with confidence, I was less sure about some of the implications of opening up the wall that had divided the kitchen from the dining room. Specifically, the electrical/mechanical work that had to be done and I knew that I hate messing with drywall (mud is not my friend). I searched AL for contractors who could handle a wide range of work and also be willing to work with me as I DIY parts of the project (other kitchen remodelers I talked with won't do that). I had an excellent experience with Scott. This guy knows how to do just about everything and has a lot of experience doing kitchen remodeling. We agreed to a time and materials contract with an initial scope of work and we adjusted the scope as we went along. Started with me demo'ing the kitchen one weekend and Scott showing up on Monday to work on opening the wall. Scott recommended an approach that minimized the amount of drywall joints and ceiling texture that would be impacted and it turned out great and went really quickly. With that wall opened up, I had to relocate the existing wiring in that wall, and Scott was great at figuring out which wires were on which circuit and explaining what we could do that would be up to code and meet my needs in the new kitchen layout. He was also great with my gas line relocation. The existing line went to the wall that was opened up and didn't even meet code (had flex line running in the floor). Scott knew how to get the line up code while relocating where it entered the room and how to run it safely to the new location with black pipe. Scott also knew how to patch the subfloor and ceiling where the wall used to be. Scott even re-textured my ceiling with knock down that matches the rest of my ceiling. Installing the exterior vent for my new range hood also went really quickly. By having Scott work with me on so many different types of work, I know I saved a lot of money compared to hiring a separate carpenter, electrician, plumber, and drywall guy. It also saved me a lot of time as I only had to work with Scott's schedule instead of coordinating 4 guys. Scott is a handyman and has a lot of clients that need him to drop in for a small job here and there. Even so, he was able to commit a lot of time to this project and was always easy to get a hold of and very flexible with his time

Ruffner Remodeling & Repair, LLC
5.0
After hearing excellent reviews from some friends of ours who had used Mark Ruffner to renovate their bathroom, we decided to hire Mark ourselves to convert a basement storage closet into a bathroom, as well as carry out some other less intrusive repairs and updates. We have no regrets at all about our decision. Mark was competent & considerate and we had no fears about giving him a key to enable him to enter the house even when we weren?t home. The tradesmen Mark used were also top notch. We love the way the new bathroom turned out and the rest of the work was also completed to an equally high standard. We?ll certainly be using Mark again for any other building work we need done

Minnesota Regrout & Tile

Purchased a Big deal for Minnesota Regrout & Tile. We had them install a stainless steel backsplash behind the kitchen sink and range top. I don't think the pricing was very transparent with the coupon and the additional cost. The representative from the company was good to work with. He gave us the the total cost for the work, but I never got an itemized invoice on the service provided. When it came time to do the work they had sent a contractor out to do the work. He did a good job but I felt I didn't get the attention we should have if Minnesota Regrout & Tile would have done the work

Stafford Home Service
5.0
We had no existing range hood of any kind, and the guy from Stafford had to take the one we had purchased (a Broan island hood) and install it, including venting it through the kitchen ceiling to the outside wall. In addition, code requires a make-up air vent and fan in the basement, wired to turn on when the hood is in use. All of this work was performed extremely well. I'd certainly use them again
The Barrier team did not disappoint. They are the most professional contractors we have ever worked with - we trust them completely to deliver against the proposed budget and the work itself. Plus they are great people! Always pleasant, respectful and diligent in their work. We love the results and will continue to turn to them for future projects
Would 100% recommend this company to anyone that has HVAC needs. From start to finish everyone that I interacted with was helpful, knowledge, and kind! Spending a lot of money on a new furnace, air conditioner, and water heater is never fun, but Aquarius made it so easy. They listened to what I was looking for and make recommendations that would serve my needs (and not just the most expensive option). They were very accommodating with my schedule and were able to install everything while I was out of the State. Everyone made it easy for me to trust getting everything installed when I was not around
I already referred him my friends. He was very dependable and he arrived on time. He worked quickly and neatly. He took the toilet out and disposed the old one. He was so great, reliable and skillful. He would be the first one I called. He had a reasonable price. I won't waste my time to call anybody else. He was my all around handyman and he can do anything
Tom and Nick are awesome! They are fast, friendly and funny...We just had a new furnace and AC unit installed...The price was reasonable and the service was outstanding...I highly recommend them to anyone looking for good honest service...Plus it is nice to support veterans and small businesses...
John and his crew are meticulous in their work and work with you to make sure that the fixtures, layout, switch types are just what you need. They did a great job. As the work was being performed Sonny noticed that I was going to end up with a previously installed GFCI outlet behind my fridge. He pointed out that if it tripped I wouldn't want to have to move me large refrigerator to reset it so he swapped it to another, accessible spot. This kind of attention to detail is really appreciated
Bryan was a pleasure to work with. He was extremely reliable and professional. He was also very patient with last minute additions, changes, questions, etc. (I'm a micro-manager). His initial bid is in the form of a range, which is actually kind of nice. His number was right in the middle of the 4 bids we obtained. I wish the individual costs were spelled out a little more explicitly but ultimately the final number was reasonable. He has people that he works with, which was helpful for the flooring, but he is also very cool about the client taking the lead on selections, as we did with some things or if you just want him to take care of things (he picked out a sink for us). He is knowledgable and did not hesitate to give us his honest opinions on products we were considering, which I appreciated. I would definitely work with Bryan again and would refer him to friends and family without hesitation
It was a delight to work with Gail. We were able to use her as little or as much as we wanted. I used her for the design of cabinets initially and for lighting, flooring and countertops. She was able to show me how things would look with a 3-d computer program. She could instantly make changes to consider. Gail urged me to add additional lighting and I was very glad to have done so. With her layout of cabinets, and extras, we got great storage value at our price point. Gail's measurements went to cabinet-maker & were spot on. She also added little touches that I didn't catch and that added significantly to the design. Overall, I felt that Gail's assistance was a big factor in our kitchen turning out so well for us. I would definitely recommend her
AWESOME FAMILY OWNED BUSINESS! Prior to meeting the owner, Troy, my husband was a bit hesitant about hiring a company that we didn't have any references to or experience with. Afterwards, he was so excited that we found a trustworthy, experienced, salt-of-the-earth Harley enthusiast to upgrade our countertops! We will definitely use Hansen’s for future projects and HIGHLY recommend them
I used this company from a referral, so I had high expectations and I'm happy to say they were met. As electricians do, they charge per hour. They showed up within 10 minutes of the appointment time. They were very friendly and even greeted my dog -- no aversion to pets. I had four outlets that were supposed to be 3-way, but were not. They rewired all of them in about 20 minutes. I also had a light fixture hung, which was done quickly. There was still time left in the hour, so they offered to change some light bulbs in another light fixture and found some exposed wires when they did it, which they promptly fixed. The fact that they were not eager to leave before the hour was up and checked wiring when it wasn't expected shows integrity and going above and beyond. They are very personable, safe, and reliable. I have already referred them to others and will use them again
Sergio's workman arrived on time and set about carefully removing the top rail of a second story porch which had wood rot on the ends. They were very careful to do so without damaging my garden, beneath their ladders. Once they had removed the rail it was apparent that some of the spindles were also rotten. They actually used the the solid part of the removed rail to create new spindles, saving time, and not wasting something that was clearly usable. When they left, I felt that the job was complete and was very satisfied with their work. That said, Sergio showed up shortly there after to check that everything was done as promised. He sanded the new work and made sure everything was ready for paint. He also fixed a drain in my bathroom! Yikes! Totally saved me from calling a plumber! I would absolutely call them again! They are thorough, careful, fairly priced ( their bid was less than half of another bid I had received, which had said that the job would take 2 men 2/3 of a day. In actuality, it took 2 men an hour and a half, 2 hrs if you consider Sergio's time) BIG, BIG THUMBS UP!!!
Well, the initial day of cleaning; no one came. I finally found an email posted at 4:00, to say that the cleaner had to cancel. They couldn't find another. I was disappointed that they didn't call. Then they sceduled me for the next day, under the condition that I was to email if the next day was bad. I emailed to change to Thurs. The cleaner showed up anyway. I wasn't ready, as I was having guests. It worked out anyway, but the sceduling situation was bad. Also, I haven't heard back, as far as a future cleaning??The 1st time I got a $50.00 discount
Bruce and Margaret came out and asked us a bunch of questions about our goals for the front, made some suggestions and then came back a week or so later to present the design. We opted not to have them do all of the work, as we did it ourselves. They knew in advance was the likely outcome for them, which is why they charge for the design. We did most of the plantings suggested, but did leave out a boulder retaining wall that was simply too expensive and labor intensive for us to take on. I would recommend their design services. As I did not use them for installation, I cannot comment on that end of it. $250.00 well spent

What do customers in Saint Paul say about Range Hood Installation?
This is the second time I've used 651-Handyman and I couldn't be happier. Greg was professional and respectful. My range hood had not been installed very well originally, but he was able to re-attach it as it should have been. Greg discussed the options with me before taking any action. It took an hour, but my range hood is now up very securely and it looks flawless. I will definitely use this company again!
