I requested estimates from four driveway repair companies. DMJ's representative Dave came out at the promised time and provided an estimate that was comparable or slightly lower than the other companies I met with. When meeting with Dave, he provided good information on the repair process in general and provided thorough answers to all of my additional questions. There was a slight delay in the repair start time due to unforeseen circumstances, but the driveway replacement began within the contractual timeline and was completed very promptly. I was very happy with the results - the work had been completed to the letter of the contract and the new asphalt driveway looked great. My neighbors complimented the new driveway and I have had no cracking or other issues with the driveway in the two months since completion. I would recommend DMJ asphalt for a new driveway or replacement work and would contact them again in the future for any additional driveway repairs or replacement needed

It went well-they seemed to have a hard time scheduling me in, perhaps that is just the nature of the business. I went longer than I thought with gravel driveway (maybe 3-4 weeks) but end result was very good. I would recommend them to anyone. They were always polite when I would call to ask about date they were coming, and if I was annoying them they did not let me know. The driveway looks great and the cost was certainly acceptable. I would recommend them to anyone needing asphalt driveway replaced

Jellison's Best Blacktop

Excellent process from initial discussion through completion. Wayne, the owner, was engaged from start to finish and provided experience based knowledge that made decision making easy. He and his team were professional, communicative, extremely capable and very enjoyable the entire time. He was very up front on how the process would work, likely risks and corrective actions on my old driveway, Wayne's son is an artist on the equipment and the whole team worked my driveway like it was their own. I highly recommend the Jellison team

We have a curved asphalt driveway that needed replacement. Additionally, I had a crab-apple tree dumping 10-12 lbs of apples daily on my driveway during the summer that I needed removed (cut it down to 5 ' previously) plus removal of a cemented- in basketball-hoop pole. I included all of these in a package and obtained several bids. Earth-Wizards was not the lowest but they were willing to adjust their bid. Additionally they were also nearby within two miles which was beneficial for both them and us. They did a very professional job. Shelley provided the bid and Gary was the foreman on the job. This was a veteran team - clearly it was not their first rodeo as the foreman had done a neighbor's yard some 30 years ago and was again replacing it about the same time I was replacing mine - he didn't think he'd be around to replace the neighbor's driveway still again! They removed the stump and basketball pole and hauled both away. They also called the city which was doing street repair and coordinated it so I was able to reduce the curb dropoff to enable a smoother driveway entry. I had landscape rock and hostas planted along one edge of the driveway. They moved the rock back slightly and trimmed all the hostas so they would not be burned by the hot asphalt. The gravel underlayment was packed down well and allowed to settle for a week prior to coating with asphalt. Overall I was very pleased with the project and the quality of the work. I would definitely recommend them

Top Notch Site visit estimate process. Highly skilled paving team created final result exceeding plan with professional care and interest in a job well done, at reasonable deviation from plan price point. We love our new larger driveway.

The owner provided the estimate as well as oversaw and participated in the work. His knowledge, experience and expertise in the field was the key to hiring him and it was borne out in the success of the project. The project was made more difficult because of a maple tree adjacent to the driveway. It's mature roots had badly heaved the old driveway in numerous areas and had to be removed before the new base and asphalt could be installed. The roots were larger and far more extensive and than initially thought, but Driveway Designs worked diligently and long until they were all removed - and at no additional cost. The work proceeded and produced a first-rate driveway. I heartily recommend this company and wouldn't hesitate to use them again

From the first phone call about obtaining an estimate to the final work day, the owner was available, on-site and very responsive. I felt comfortable giving them the job after he talked me through several of my questions. The crew was great, the job was done exactly as promised and in a high quality and timely manner. I have already referred Jellison's Best Black Top to others and would not hesitate to recommend them. I was very very pleased

I scheduled time with Shelly for an estimate. She was able to pull paperwork from a few years earlier when I had an estimate and then decided to wait. When I decided to replace the driveway and gave Shelly a down payment, they were ready to start in about 2 weeks. The old driveway was removed in one day. A few days later the new one was put in. Everything went very smooth

John & Jerry Co
5.0
As it pertains to professionalism, punctuality, quality, communication, and value John & Jerry Co was by far one of the best contractors that I’ve worked with. The asphalt driveway was replaced and it looks great. From scheduling and providing the free estimate, laying the base, to smoothing out the new asphalt, which was followed-up with meticulous clean up – all employees that I came in contact with were extremely professional and friendly. The crew was also very courteous to my neighbors and their properties. The project was top notch and turned out just as I had hoped. Need to also mention the job was completed ahead of scheduled. I highly recommend John & Jerry Co. as a contractor who can be counted on to do a great job
After receiving several competitive bids, I contracted J&W to replace our ~ 40 year old asphalt driveway. I was a little late in getting the job scheduled earlier this summer, and J&W informed me at the time of contract that I'd likely be scheduled in early September. As promised, they contacted me about 1 week prior to the job beginning in early September. The tear-out crew arrived on-time and they listened to the few specific instructions that I had regarding some minor shape changes for the new driveway. I has also replaced an adjacent retaining wall earlier this year and I wanted to ensure that they wouldn't undercut that wall during the driveway tear-out. All went well and the crew was courteous throughout the several hours that the tear-out lasted. Paving was scheduled to take place several days later. The paving crew arrived on-time. The shape of my driveway required a decent amount of hand-work which the crew performed with ease. Once the job was finished, they staked the street-side of our driveway to ensure that nobody drove on it and left me with a page of instructions. I'm pleased with the work performed and the value that J&W provided, and I'd definitely recommend them to my friends
Bob Wells and his crew did a great job. Bob did a great job explaining what they do and what we could do. We chose replacing the blacktop. Bob is honest and very fair about the work they do. We really appreciate Bob and his crew.
Very fast and efficient. Came out the next day (day after I e-mailed a request for estimate) to measure driveway. Followed up within a couple hours with phone call of estimate. Scheduled work to be done following week. They called the day before the scheduled work to confirm that their crew would be here on scheduled day. Crew arrived approx 10am on the scheduled morning and completed the work in approx 1 hr. Work looks good, no complaints
He gave me an itemized estimate. The trimming of the grass makes the seal coating nice and neat to not have any grass near by. He used a hot crack filler. He power cleaned the cracks and joints before he did anything. He charged exactly what he estimated. He did a great job and was very personable. He provided references of my neighbors that he had worked for. It was very convenient to be able to walk over and see his work. His estimate was probably the second cheapest
I will start out by saying I was very impressed by Magic Sealcoating and especially Andy. My neighbor just completed getting their driveway recoated by Jet-Black, who is known to do great work in our area and results show this. Therefore, I requested a quote from them to repair and seal my driveway. They came in at close to $350. This was just too much. So, I did some searching and found Magic Sealcoat, who came out the same day to provide me with an estimate. Andy was great, explaining that they use high quality materials and warranty the work. He also said he could come back within 2 days to complete the job. On top of all that his price was almost $100 lower than other competitors. So, I hired him. Andy and his partner arrived promptly at 8am as expected and filled in all cracks and potholes. They spent almost 3 hours making sure the job was done right. Afterwards he explained what he did, put up a caution sign and told me not to drive on for 24 hours and if any issues occur call right away. I can say the driveway looks great, I think Andy and team did better than Jet Black did our neighbors driveway. I would highly recommend
They provided me with a good service, however they did not draw up an official contract. The work went by based entirely on the word of the man who came out to give me the estimate. They did the work and they stuck to the price, however I thought it was strange that they never wrote up an official estimate. The price seemed a little high
Jerry Mallinger is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. He has a lifetime of experience in the paving business, going all the way back to his childhood when he worked for his dad. Jerry has a serious work ethic and is serious about doing a good job. He and his wife and sons all enjoy working together; there's no lack of humor in the family! They show up with serious equipment, able to do large projects like parking lots, or smaller projects like driveways, and they do snow removal in the off season. Everyone knew what to do, and maybe because it's a family business, they seemed determined to do work they could be proud of. The asphalt was compacted and rolled repeatedly, and the edges were tamped to create a nice finished look. They also pay attention to where water will run, and created the appropriate sloping. I can easily recommend Jerry's Blacktop to anyone. A quality job done for about 40% less than the highest bid we had from others

I spoke with the co-owner, Calvin, who was extremely professional and pleasant to speak with on the phone and in person. He was very accommodating to all of my needs as my driveway was not an easy task to complete. You can tell this company puts a lot of heart into their work and strives to achieve customer satisfaction
I had a bit of a tight window to get the job done, because the city is replacing my road and wanted any driveway replacements complete before the final layer of road paving was put down. Kris responded quickly to my call and was finishing up an estimate in a nearby town. We made arrangements to meet at my house an hour later to look at my driveway and get an estimate. That went smoothly, and Kris noted the subsidence at the garage apron and some slight crowning between garage and street. She said they'd cap the footings if needed, grade down to remove the crown and let water flow to the street, add a bit more class 7, and make the driveway level with the front step and the garage floor. Her bid was also the only bid that included references to nearby jobs - I had to ask for those from other companies. Price was mid-range of the estimates I received. Fairfax was able to commit to timing that worked with the city road project, and I liked what I saw when I looked at other jobs they'd done. Overall response time and information conveyed in conversations during the bidding process was very good. I was told what I needed to do prior to tear-off, what could be done between tear-off and repaving, and how long to stay off the new driveway after it was paved. The crew showed up on time on tear-off day, removed the old asphalt, graded, put down and rolled the new class 7 underlayer. About 10-14 days later was paving day, and again the crew showed up on time and put down the new driveway. I saw Kris driving the roller and checking the slope with a long level. Very happy with the new driveway, and would certainly work with Fairfax again if we needed another one

I requested an estimate through Angie's List on Friday, 8/12. To my surprise on Monday 8/15 I received an email proposal. Apparently Bob had checked out the pending job when I wasn't home and wrote up a proposal. I replied stating that I would appreciate if Bob could come out and go over the details with me. He was more than happy to come to my house at my convenience to go over the specifics. Upon agreeing to the proposal I was told that it would be roughly 5 weeks before the work could be done because of previously scheduled jobs. To my surprise on 8/30 I received a phone call asking me if they could start the job the next day because they had a break in their schedule. I have a small driveway, easily completed in a few hours so I guess they figured they could squeeze me in. I have a small, oddly sloped, hard to access driveway with some odd contours in a narrow alley. They had to park their trucks 1/2 a block away and drag their equipment down the alley as needed. The removal of the old driveway went quickly. They followed my instructions implicitly as far as the boundaries of the new driveway. Upon installing the new driveway they managed to maintain the original slope and the odd contours. They also had to do a narrow, sloped strip (approx 60 degrees) which runs parallel to the alley. All turned out well and looks great. They cleaned up their mess very well, including the public alley. All in all the job looks great, but I will have to reiterate on the quality later as I have not had a chance to drive on it yet

We received an estimate from the company. They took a lot of time, answered all of our questions and were very professional. We were not ready to proceed with the work at that time, but plan to hire them to do the job.
