Practical Roofing

We have a flat roof. In general, the flat roofs require a special expertise, so after checking for roofers on Angie's List, we decided to have an estimate from 3 roofing companies that install flat roofs, Practical Roofing being one of them. We were very impressed with Ernie Medeiros from Practical Roofing who evaluated in great detail all the options we may have, not just installing a new roof. Once we decided on having a new roof installed, he gave us a proposal estimate, and then he responded promptly to all the questions we had. Finally, after we got all the clarifications, and received a 5% senior discount, we accepted Practical Roofing's proposal. Practical Roofing kept us well informed by e-mail about the order status for all the items needed for the job. As soon as the orders arrived, we set up the date for the installation of the new roof. Ernie and his team members performed the job in one sunny day in a very professional manner. They cleaned up all the debris, they took pictures after the job completion and explained to us all the existing mountings on the roof, and responded to all our questions and inquiries we had

I chose Cosmos Roofing after obtaining three bids. Alex called to my attention that I could likely save more money by increasing the insulation in my attic rather than add an insulation layer to the flat roof. I had not thought of that possibility. My flat-roof home was built in the 1920's and had some challenges during the roofing process. Alex and his father customized a solution so as not to increase the possibility of unexpected damage to the exterior stucco of the house. I am very pleased with their work and communication throughout the process and highly recommend Cosmos

TO DO SOME OF THE REMOVAL, THEY SUBCONTRACTED WORKERS WHOM WANTED ENTRY TO MY HOUSE, TO GET TO THE ROOF. CURRENTLY, ON THE FLAT PART, WE STILL HAVE LEAKS. DURO-LAST PRODUCT IS NOT RECOMMENDED. FLASHING WAS DONE VERY POORLY, AND GUTTERS ARE NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY. MAJORITY OF WATER IS LEAKING ON SIDE OF HOUSE

We had to wait two months but it was well worth the wait. It took about three day to tear off the flat roof and repair all the dry rot in the roof. There were several places the rot was really bad and they had to repair a 2X8 frame member and replace two 4X12 Lam-Beams plus 375 sq feet of CDX plywood decking. In all cases they checked with us and explained what was needed and the added cost for the repair before the work was started.. Once all the try rot was repaired both the flat roof and the regular roof (steep as this is a church) was done. After each day of work they walked the out side area to pick up any materials and then used a blower to make sure the sidewalks were clean. Overall all the members involved with the roof replacement were very impressed with the job Quality did. The church can be seen from the street so why not drive by and see the great job

The experience went very well. They said what they were going to do. They gave me a full written description. They were here on time. They cleaned up after themselves. We were very satisfied. The price was a little high compared to other estimates, they were in the middle.

I got three quotes and all three companies had good ratings on Angie’s list and the area consumer check book. I chose them because they gave me the lowest bid. He was very thorough. I liked the way the person from the company came and spoke to me and also liked the bid. I like that fact that they could do the job right away. They also thanked me for doing business with them. There were few communication problems during the process so I rate them A-

Westshore Roofing Inc

The roofing work done by Westshore roofing was part of a larger job to insulate an addition on my house. The addition has a flat roof so I decided to use blown-in cellulose. The flat roof also had some external duct-work that penetrated the old roof (for ceiling registers). Another company would remove and re-install the duct-work, and a third company would install the insulation. The estimate I got from Westshore roofing was not the cheapest, but relatively close. The superior IB roof system made the choice to go with Westshore roofing easy. Westshore roofing was very flexible in scheduling so I could have everything done in a week. After the new roof was put back on, they even came back the next day to work with the people who would put the ductwork back, to make sure the duct work was "compatible" with the new roof. The guys were very friendly, did the work in the expected timeframe, and cleaned up well after themselves

I had this done last year but waited until after all of the heavy rain to see how it held up. The new roof looks great and hasn't leaked at all during the major storms we've been having. Communication was excellent and the work was done quickly and professionally.

Lovett & Lovett Roofing Co Inc

As part of a solar install, I needed to replace my old tar+gravel roof and chose Lovett & Lovett to do the work. They're quite busy and had a 2+ month lead time but had a timely response to my request for an estimate. Jordan came out to give me the estimate to replace my old roof, install a new roof with insulation and to install a new skylight. Overall the price was in-line with what I was expecting and the other estimates I got (when I could get a roofer to respond!). The plan was to do the roof install along with the solar installer so that the solar panel supports can get placed before the new roof went on. Without Jordan's help the solar installer would have screwed it up - they showed up with supports that they thought were too short for the roof + insulation (they weren't) and they didn't have longer supports on hand. They said they'd have to come back after the roof was installed to cut into the new roof and place the supports after the fact. Jordan learned about this and called the solar installer directly, told them that the supports would work fine as is and made them come back to the house to do the install. I'll note that it was not a joint contact or anything - Lovett Roofing wasn't responsible for the solar install, but Jordan wanted to make sure that it was done right. As for the actual roof - it looks good and so far has held up great. The finish work on the skylight was done very well. Overall, I was impressed with the thoroughness and polish of the install. Even my neighbors commented how good the roofers were

ARS responded quickly to our call. Our roof was 20 years old and leaking. One year prior another contractor tried to seal roof. Poor quality and roof continued to leak. Decided to replace roof. Bids for new tar and gravel, foam and fabric. ARS fabric made most sense for flat roof. Lighter weight, longer warranty and best price. ARS completed work as promised. No leaks,,

Roof leaked in four places just a couple of days after installation. Roof ended up with (12) twelve foot diameter ''lake'' of water after installation. Old flat roof never had standing water/improper drainage. Work performed without a city building permit. City Building Inspector rejected roof (after I got and paid for permit myself). Contractor State License Board roofing expert stated entire roof needed removed and replaced, or reimburse me in full and still the contractor would not cooperate. After dragging out dispute for 1-1/2 years, during which I found it necessary to hire an attorney and set up Contractor State License Board mandatory arbitration, contractor finally reimbursed me for exactly what I had initially requested. Original price was fair, but I think extras/change order prices were excessive

Roof had been totally replaced in 1996, by another roofer in Alameda. After a few years we noticed leakage signs in the ceilings and asked the original roofer to fix it. After $800, we got about 100 pounds of tar poured over parts of the roof (roof is flat). Roof was leak free for another year and then I tried to find and fix the leaks. After a few more years of toying with the vendor I called Advanced Roofing to take a look at the roof. Two guys came out and walked/examined the entire flat roof and presented a plan of action to secure the house, yet not all of the existing roof was deemed to be replaced at this time. They went through their itemized proposal, high lighting how the job would be done, types of materials used, time for the job, provided an 18 month warranty on the roof for ANY problems and provided references. The job took 2 days to complete and then the three of us walked around the roof to judge the job. I had never seen a flat roof job like this before (have owned one other flat roofed house), it looked like it would with stand any kind of weather for decades (bullet proof). All materials were removed for the premises, excellent materials were applied, the workers were professional and the clean-up was spotless

Cosmos Roofing

Cosmos Roofing rocks! They are the best!! I had a really bad flat roof with the apartment building in Millbrae, and it caused many problems. Luckily, I found Cosmos Roofing on Angieslist.com. They inspected very thoroughly, and gave me a really reasonable quote, compared to 10 other quotes that I got. They are not the cheapest, but they are not the most expensive one. And they have the most detailed proposal. They put everything out front, and there is no hidden cost. They are very professional, efficient, polite, and responsive. After I accept their proposal, they schedule and pull permit for the date I want. Rich explained to me how they are going to proceed the job, and informed me what exactly is going to happen, so I could inform my tenants. And on the start day, everyone is arriving on time, started to work, until finished... Again they are very efficient with the excellent quality of job. They clean up everyday. And they finished all the work earlier than I expected. I don't need to worry a thing, especially it is my first time to work with them, usually I am very careful to work with the contractors for the first time... Cosmos Roofing is the perfect contractor (roofer) that I am dreaming for. And one thing I think it is worth to mention, they are not "money hunger." Maybe they are considered a bigger company, they put the payment schedule really reasonable. I will definitely work with them again, and recommend Cosmos Roofing to all my family and friends. Special thanks to Alex with the initial contact, Rich with all the contacts and proposals, who was there from the beginning until finishing to make sure everything is on schedule, on track, keep me posted, and everyone is doing the professional quality of job, Teo, who was actually there everyday from the beginning until finishing to make sure everything is on schedule, on track, and everyone is doing the excellent quality of job, and all the workers who work on the roof. Alex and his crew did a really nice job replacing my old roof. They paid attention to details and finished everything well so I am happy with the outcome!
I had my roof replaced with them last year. Emilio was professional and answered all my questions. His crew did a great job and kept my yard and plants free of debris. We are super happy with our new roof. We will highly recommend to our family and friends.
It went great. They are professional and on time. He does what he says. He finished the job when he said he would. I've used him about six times now and the pricing is the same.
I needed to get the roof of my house redone so I contacted Sersiv. Andres was super knowledgeable and helpful. Price was competitive and job was done on time. I am very happy with the quality of their service. I would highly recommend them.
GREAT !!! Explained All options, compared information without any pressure to purchase and also available for future information and consultation- explained pricing and what to look for reguarding solar panel fees
Yorkshire was hired to reroof 58 homes in our HOA. As a Board member I was part of the decision making process. They out bid 4 other roofers. The price, professionalism, experience and quality of work were the reasons for choosing Yorkshire over the other bidders. The owner of this family run company was on site every day of this large and complex project directing his crew ensuring a quality job. His attention to detail was a big plus. Some days he was on site late into the evening to ensure quality work, clean up and making sure we were water tight as this project began in the winter months. Our homes have unique architecture with many siding to roof junctions that created challenging situations which were resolved effectively with custom made flashing. At the homeowner's direction and approval he repaired any siding issues that comprised the water tight envelope. He offered homeowners skylights, solar tubes and gutters at the owner's discretion at very reasonable prices. He added guitar guards at a reasonable price. He has a stable crew and treats them with great respect. His crews are fast and efficient and clean up everyday. He helped guide the HOA Board with the best roofing shingle choices. He is also an expert of flat roof installations. The HOA has used 3 other roofing companies in the past and by far Yorkshire is the best. I highly recommend Yorkshire Roofing and would recommend them to anyone considering roofing a single home. a commercial project or large HOA
Our home had an older wood shake roof, and it was time to upgrade. I called several roofing contractors and received 5 estimates. Bryan Folk, The Roofer, was highly recommended by my real estate agent (buyer's agent) from feedback she has received from her other clients. Our roof was more expensive than just a regular roof replacement because wood shake does not have plywood underneath the roof. Therefore, we had to have a full covering of plywood installed along with the new composite shingles.Bryan was on-site every day with his crew, which made the job move smoothly. The finish work done to the vents, flashing and molding is superb. The Roofer was not the cheapest estimate I received, but you really do get what you pay for with a roofer
I got three bids and Shadowfax's price was the lowest of the three, although one other bid was close. About 3300 sq ft roof. Work included: removing old concrete tiles, replacing dry rot wood, installed about 18" Owens Corning insulation in all attic spaces, installed new roof including reflective barrier and Certainteed Presidential TL shingles. The roof looks great, the finish work was excellent, and with the added insulation and reflective barrier I've already noticed the house stays much cooler on hot days. My only complaint was the demo of the old roof made quite a mess, which they cleaned up fairly well outside, but not the garage. The foreman the first day said they'd clean it up, but since it was late they'd do it tomorrow. Never cleaned the garage, so I did it. Overall, though, very pleased
I thought I needed a whole new roof. I had buckets dispersed throughouI my studio addition. Abril responded quickly, even though it was a rainy stormy week. Rick Abril came out and climbed up to inspect the situation. He concluded that we could perhaps get away with just a repair instead of a whole new roof. That's refreshing! He offered to give that a go first and, if the leaks came back, he would apply the cost of the repair to the new roof. I found him very professional and knowledgable and honest. I had him quote the removal of a stovepipe as well. The old woodstove never gets used due to the no burn days and I need the space that it takes up. I hired him to do both the repair and the stovepipe extraction and patch. It was scheduled the following week. However, a new storm was moving into the area and I got a call one morning that they would like to do the job early to avoid the coming bad weather. Yes, I said. They arrived on time and ready to work. The men were great. The job got done and they cleaned up the debris and work zone. I waited, of course, until after the latest storm to write this review. It rained like the dickens with high winds to boot. No leaks! I will now consider Abril my roofer to call. Excellent company
It took longer than I'd expected--8 working days--but worthwhile. Jose communicated about the roof progress well, arrived early and left late. He even worked by himself all day on Saturday in order to stay on schedule. Jose also cleaned the area around the house at the end of every day, which I really appreciated
Amazing work! Our flat roof was expertly cared for by the great folks at Dura-foam. Lalo and team were so professional and committed to excellence every step of the process. Incredibly conscientious about not causing us any imposition and clean up was immaculate. Totally recommend this company very highly

What do customers in San Jose say about Replace Flat Roof?
Northern Pacific was a subcontractor of my general contractor for a remodel job that primarily involved replacing our tar and gravel flat roof with a new IB Roof. These guys showed up on time and completed the job in 10 days, all as they indicated they would do when we put the project out to bid. The team was professional and knowledgeable - I was home most of the time and asked a lot of questions. The new roof looks fabulous. They are one of the few contractors in Marin that are qualified to put on an IB Roof. So I suppose if you want an IB Roof, you don't have much choice. That said, so far, we are very happy with our new roof - the insulation is noticeably better and, of course, no leaks! One caveat - an IB Roof is not cheap.
