Overall it went very well. West Coast was very prompt in getting me the estimate and very good at giving me options to choose from (different manufactureres, sizes that would fit in the opening, etc). Once I decided to go with West Coast, they placed the order and set up an installation date for the day after the fireplace was expected to arrive. Unfortunately, the unit was delayed from the manufacturer, but Pete was good at letting me know the new ETA and adjusted their schedule so they installed it the day after it arrived. They installed the fireplace as promised, didn't find any "extras" to charge me during installation, and overall did a great job

I hired an independent contractor to do the installation. The contractor immediately noticed damaged parts in the product; he'd installed many fireplaces by the same manufacturer before and was very familiar with the product. He took photos and called Creative Energy right away and everyone agreed that the parts had to be replaced under warranty. That was November 22 2010. It is now 2011. I have been to the Creative Energy store in person four times now asking for my parts. They keep waving their hands and saying they've done everything they can. Last time, the manager basically told me to do this myself. I still don't have the parts under the warranty. I would recommend friends look for other retailers for these products

Penguin fireplaces was highly professional in helping me install the fireplace (Napoleon LHD-45) even though I purchased the unit through an online vendor. Allan and Effrian were extremely professional and punctual in getting all the details worked out with my project manager at my new home construction site. They guided us through the install and the follow up was great. Excellent service! They are very competitive for installation services. I have a very long vent to my roof and hence a higher piping cost. Highly recommended

The Fireplace Element
So far all the work is completed and it looks beautiful and the fireplace runs well. The fireplace door needs adjusting and they are supposed to come back soon to do this. The only negative thing was the scheduling. Our estimated schedule date got pushed out once but the re-assigned start date also got delayed. This 2nd delay was only pushed out one day but we were told on Friday that the installer couldn't be here for the Monday install date. I had arranged for time off work a long time ago for the Monday installation so that was irritating

These guys are great. I called and set up an appointment, they showed up on time, cleaned the chimneys and installed a new cap on one of them. The guy that came to our house was polite, efficient and did a great job. He also showed us how to use our fireplace insert so that it burned more efficiently, and did a test burn in it to make sure it was working properly. Absolutely great service, very fair price. We'll definitely use Royal again

His prices were very competitive to the other contractors, but most of all we liked that they were very efficient and were delivering what was promised. Mark assigned a Project Manager Vladimir to supervise and coordinate the entire project. America's Dream Homeworks installers were very polite and pleasant - and very hard workers. They always kept the working areas neat and cleaned and hauled away all job related debris when they finished. Definitely will recommend this company to my family, all my co-workers and friends

We recently performed a comprehensive remodel of our Union City home through Bay Easy Construction. My wife and I met with 5 different contractors before we ultimately went with Ofer since we felt he could best deliver on what we wanted at the right price. We felt very comfortable with Ofer and his designers from the very beginning. Since we were new at this, and the project was huge, we were still anxious and wondered if he could deliver on our remodeling goals?.and boy did Ofer and company deliver! The process was smooth and the result was absolutely beautiful. Hopefully we can get the pictures uploaded soon so you folks can have a look for yourself. During the initial visits, we appreciated how knowledgeable and patient Ofer was about the many questions we had. He was able to give us a ton of information on the pros and cons of both major and minor work items. On many occasions, Ofer was able to recognize what we wanted to achieve with the remodel without us having to tell him. For example, we really appreciated his suggestions on adding windows to the fireplace wall and replacing the aluminum tin on top of the pergola with a clear one. This tremendously increased the amount of natural light that came into the family room. At first we didn?t want to tell him the budget we were working with but since we started to feel comfortable with him, we decided this information will only help him get us what we wanted. He was able to take that and tell us upfront the estimated (and surprisingly accurate) cost of several different upgrades along with each of its pros and cons. This helped us narrow down the set of upgrades we could accomplish with our budget and that is what we used as a baseline to compare Bay Easy Construction with other contractors. At first, we were a bit bothered by his direct tone, but got used to it quickly and actually rather appreciated how frank he was about what was reasonable at what cost. One negative note is that I feel Ofer delayed the material selection. We could have used more time to pick the right materials and felt rushed in making our choices. I would recommend people to start the material selection sooner. Ofer?s crew was great to work with as well. I went over to the house many times to see how the guys were doing their work. Without saying, his crew performed the work with quality. For example the front entryway was slightly uneven from the previous floor that was there. Instead of cutting corners, they floated the floor properly even though they didn't really have to. His tile guy was super nice to work with. He went over tile patterns and spacing and was a pleasure to work with. As you will see in the pictures, the floor, kitchen, and shower tiles came out gorgeous. We felt that the guys did every upgrade thoughtfully and carefully. A minor example is when I watched one of his guys install the bathroom hardware. He took his time to align the towel bars and toilet paper holders perfectly. Minor, but we really appreciated this attention to detail. There were a couple of hiccups where Ofer?s crew installed the wrong toilets and vanity tops. Ofer ate the costs of replacing them without any question. At the end, every room came out beautiful. During the project, my wife and I changed our mind on a few things (we were just not in love with some of our initial selections). Ofer did not complain about any of the changes even though some changes required that he demolish some of what was already built. We really appreciated his attitude towards the changes. The quality of the materials he used was high and something we didn't have to ask for. He went above and beyond to meet our expectations on many levels. We will definitely use him again for any future projects

This was the 2nd time I've had Frank do work at my house and I was once again delighted. I wanted something different for the fireplace and Frank delivered. He took great care selecting the type and color stones to use and with the placement that was crucial also. He ground the stones to achieve a bullnose look all around the mantle and hearth. He had a most original idea of insetting a painting above the mantle and then framing it with the stones. Wow! what an eye catcher that is. It is just gorgeous and so unusual and blends very well with my vaulted ceilings. Frank is truly an artist and has an eye for interior stone work. The stones he used carry through the ones he placed in the front yard a year and a half ago so now there is a great flow from the street into the entry of the house. The actual work performed - installation, grinding, etc. was expertly and skillfully done by Frank and another worker. And now he has come up with the brilliant idea of insetting similar stones into the wood steps on the stairway in the same room. I have the sneaky suspicion I will be doing that soon..

Update: I was not paid to give a review and I did utilize and hire Shefer Builders for a total remodel. Remodeling can be stressful. So many decisions and expenses. We thought about it several years. We researched, planned, saved and interviewed several companies. We wanted a general contractor that could handle all our needs (one stop). We met with Yani of Shefer Builder twice. We shared our budget, our wants, and our concerns. It’s important you find someone you feel comfortable with and can have confidence in. It’s your home after all. He made us feel excited about the possibilities and his portfolio was extensive. He had loads of ideas and thoughtful ways and places we could make our dreams come true. We’d lived in our 1950s home for 20 years. Everything needed updating. From the roof down to new flooring, new windows, doors, outside stucco, and a gorgeous new open floor plan kitchen (removed a wall) and bathroom! We couldn’t be happier now! The end result is amazing. It looks like something in a magazine. Yet very livable. Yani helped with choosing wall colors, tile, flooring and fixtures. They built a new master walk-in closet with custom organizers. Added crown molding and pocket lights throughout and durable pretty flooring. During the process Yani stayed in touch constantly and sent pictures of the progress. If we had a question he was very responsive in returning a call or text. He stayed within our budget and even found places to save us money. We joke if we win the lotto we’ll have Shefer Builder back to add a second story. We’d be happy to provide more info

We interviewed four other contractors, and we were impressed with Oz and Jonathan because we were instantly drawn to their very friendly personality. We are designers, and we needed someone who would be open to design input and suggestions, and they were very accommodating to our design ideas, and any suggestions that we had. They were willing and ready to explore creative solutions to any challenges that came up. They replied to our emails in a timely manner, and they always showed up for our onsite meetings with a pleasant ?can do? attitude. Their staff was very friendly and courteous. If I were to make one suggestion is that they could be more tenacious with their ?onsite project management/foreman? team. We lived in the home during the entire remodeling process, and participated in all aspects of the process. We are artist and designers who have specific ideas as to what we wanted and how we think it should be accomplished. When we feel frustrated for any reason, OZ and Jonathan were by our side at a moment's notice to explain the process and resolve our concerns. Thank you Jonathan and OZ??We learned a lot, and we absolutely love our new kitchen

It took awhile to work with our sales person and land on a design. I suggest you do lots of research, pick a design you like, and then be certain that is communicated to the work crew. My husband created a detailed sketch of what we wanted which we gave to Troy, our project manager, and Mario, the lead worker on our project. Troy, who was managing other projects at the same time was our point person and he was excellent. Made contact with us everyday and called to alert us of changes (due to weather, etc.) Troy always followed through on whatever he told us he was going to do. Highly, highly recommend him. Mario, who laid the pavers and supervised the other workers was a true craftsman and artist with the rock. We were very pleased with our construction crew. Our patio area needed significant grading. It was fascinating watching the guys do this painstaking work as well as beautiful cutting and shaping small pieces of rock around our window wells

I thought I had enough tiling to complete the job, but did not. Danny escorted me to the local Home Depot and help me pick out tiling enough for master bath at no additional cost. His team applied epoxy coating to my garage and found a couple cracks and shortly after it started pealing since we applied during told season. Reached out to them months later during summer and honored his warranty to fill cracks and reapply epoxy coating. They are awesome and would highly recommend

Excellent experience. Ivan arrived promptly on a Sunday afternoon (45 mins after I called)! He listened closely to what we were experiencing and after quoting the cost for unplugging the kitchen sink, went right to work through the roof vent. I then asked him about a couple other non-urgent problems and he quoted them and did them very efficiently too. He clearly explained his logic for what he did, which is important to me. With Ivan you get a real licensed plumber, not just an associate working under the remote direction of a plumber. He is a clear and efficient communicator and I trust him, which is unusual for me to say after one job. Needless to say, I plan to hire him again

My gas fireplace insert had not been serviced since installed 10-15 years ago, and had not worked for over a year. Arnel cleaned the glass and rearranged the "coals" and "ash." He then correctly diagnosed the problem: the thermostat controlling the fireplace insert was causing the malfunction. Despite the fact that the thermostat said it was "millivolt" (and thus appropriate for this application), the reality was that it was not right in this instance. I replaced the thermostat and everything works perfectly

Someone always responded to email within a day. The onsite staff were polite and did a professional job. No hitches. They have an online website to track all conversations, issues, etc... so there is always a record of change requests, issues, etc... and a way to make sure someone is following up on all issues. I would use them again for future remodeling

The people at Canyon Fireplace (sorry, I've forgotten any names) were very helpful in picking out a fireplace style that I really liked. The lead time was a few weeks to get the fireplace mantel.
