DIVERSIFIED REMODELING & REPAIR
2.0
The workmanship left a great deal to be desired. On the deck all of the boards start and end on the same floor joist, they are not staggered. The railing was not 90 degrees and was not sturdy. We added supports that straightened and strengthened the railing. We have had a leaking roof from the very beginning and the contractor has attempted to fix the problem three times. I asked him to meet me at the house to evaluate the problem but he always showed up and "fixed" the problem when no one was home. Standing on the street you can see the joint between the old roof and the new porch roof. I am now going to hire a professional to stop the leaks. He tried but just doesn?t meet the standard. Don't trust this contractor to design the project. Do the design yourself and be very specific. If you aren't familiar with construction principles you would be well served to hire a more expensive contractor. I have a job for inside the house but this contractor will not be called to provide a bid.

I had multiple conversations with Keith Jones and he came out to the house twice. At our next meeting he was going to bring us some designs based upon our discussion. The next person who came out was Dale, and it was like starting from scratch and he gave us a completely different estimate than what Mr. Jones had. We were under the impression that they were playing one part of the company against the other. We felt pressured and thought that was unethical and decided not to use them at all. One estimate was for $4,700 and the other estimate that Dale gave was $10,000. We wanted to move forward with the design plan but that never happened. It was for a simple flagstone patio and steps up to the pool. I did call them back to tell them why we did not use them. We just felt everything fell apart as far as follow through and professionalism.

They designed the porch, ordered the materials, and then assembled the porch on site. The lead builder did an outstanding job. The work is meticulous and fits perfectly with the rest of the house. Included in the price was electrical work to install a ceiling fan.

It took some redo due to a faulty product on my front porch. Derrik was very responsive and I am totally satisfied with the look of the products in my garage and on my front porch.

A nightmare. In 2 hours on first day, 8 men removed the 15 x 15 foot deck (it would have been fine with 2 men) and by Day Two the new one was up. What's the problem?? He used UNTREATED wood for the deck! By the time I found out it was up already. I told him to stop the job. He convinced me a few coats of Sherwin Williams was all it needed to protect it and he'd have to requote me and be paid to tear down and start over with treated wood. I felt extremely rushed and foolishly let him continue. We had discussed extra wide Trex stairs you could turn around on while carrying a tray of drinks and BBQ. The steps were built just 9 inches wide! Standard is 11. I asked for 13 wide. He then tore down HALF the stairs and built another set 10 1/2 inches wide. This stair now did not match the other half left from the first set and looked completely ridiculous. 2 sets of mismatched stairs one inch apart - see photo. He insisted they were extra wide and sent a photo of his own size 9 sneaker that didn't even fit on the stair. See photo. He installed flimsy $40 screen doors on an $18,000 project. He put a door handle on only one side of one door without the other half of the handle or a latch. How are you supposed to keep the door shut? He said in front of 3 witnesses he did not know how to install door handles or build stairs. This man hires workers but doesn't oversee them. He appears to have no hands-on construction experience. The abundance of laborers do mediocre work but work so fast you can't stop them to make corrections. He was to use TREX weatherproof material to make the stairs. Instead he used cheap knock-off product and said Trex was not available. I went to Home Depot and saw it on the shelf. He built the handrail from wood and just screwed a fake-trex board over the top. Ridiculous looking! See photo. Thank you for reading and if you use this man, write extremely long detailed contracts and watch his hired workers every minute. I asked for a new set of stairs and gave lengthy details, or offered for him to deduct the cost of stairs and let my handyman build them. He chose to deduct and leave, thank goodness. He offered a 2 year warranty. I asked for 5 and he said he would give that if I paid him $3000 every 2 years to restain the little porch. Three thousand dollars!! We agreed I would pay his laborer $20/hr. to watch while I have my handyman do it in a couple of hours. None of that would have been needed if he had used treated lumber. I have written multiple times asking for my 10 year roof warranty and he has not responded to date.

Our large (10'x40') screened-in porch was showing its age - worn-down screens, concrete stain that did not 'take' and was peeling off, etc. We got quotes from several companies and Lone Star State Construction was right around the middle. Additionally, at our request they provided a very detailed scope of work with itemized prices as we had a tight budget and wanted to figure out how much work we could get done under our budget (which other contractors were hesitant to do). Our original scope of work included a concrete porch extension as well as staining the wood screen bays, but based on the advice of the contractors we removed these items although they would have added a significant portion to the price. At the time we signed the contract, we were asked for a deposit and milestone payments, which I did not expect, but the payments were a very reasonable portion of the total at reasonable milestone points. Work was sometimes delayed due to the heavy rains we had over the past two weeks, and some of the items were more difficult than planned (our porch is not 'true' in any dimension, making the woodwork difficult), but it turned out great and we were not charged for any extra labor needed for items in the original scope. The final stage of the project was painting the concrete and applying epoxy. When one of the workmen accidentally stepped in the epoxy (leaving a permanent mark), the lead contractor arranged to have the epoxy removed and re-applied that very same day. He also arranged to have the screen doors re-hung when we didn't like the direction that they swung. We can't wait to entertain on our like-new porch!

I had a raised wooden deck with a pergola. Breezy By Nature removed the pergola, installed a porch roof and screened it in. They did an excellent job and the project was completed within a week. It looks like it was always a part of the house. To keep bugs out, they caulked all around the edges where the porch meets the house and even screened under the deck ay my request. They also used “superscreen” on the porch, which is stronger and can withstand our cats climbing on it. Henry Parker, the owner, was great to work with. We have really been enjoying the porch. It has added a lot more usable space to our house.

Gio is the best contractor we have worked with in many years. For context, we have quite high standards and Gio is the only contractor in recent memory who has met and exceeded our expectations. Gio was professional and competent throughout the process. His interpersonal skills are top-notch, interacting with us clearly and responsively. He quickly and effectively provided information for our HOA application, enabling an almost-immediate approval. His specifications were significantly superior to the contractor employed by our builder, as were his materials and workmanship; all at a significantly lower price. As the deck went up, we saw the hidden features that will extend the life of our deck; something that he could have ignored and we would never have known. We had a constrained timeline and he was flexible in scheduling to work within our timing limits. Bottom line, if you hire Gio for your next job, I am absolutely confident that you will be thrilled with the results.

J R'S CUSTOM DECKS

This is the 2nd time JR's Custom decks has done work for us. At our previous home, we had a pergola and wooden deck added to the back of the house. The most recent work JR did for us is the addition of a covered porch to the back of our home. We chose to go with JR again because we were so completely satisfied with his work the first time around (he is punctual, professional, honest, and does great work). The porch we added to the back of our house is quite large. It was built upon an existing cement pad. JR pulled all the permits, and arranged to have a structural engineer come out to determine if our cement pad could support the weight of the large porch. The work was completed on schedule and exceeded our expectations. Two years later, our porch is still beautiful and we remain satisfied, loyal customers.

The work turned out to be more extensive than the original estimate. We are pleased with the work that Joe did - he was on the job through the hottest day of the summer, rain storms and even stayed when he discovered snakes in one of our rotted porch posts! He came on a Saturday to try to finish the work, although the rain kept him from working that day. We would like to have Joe return to do other work in the future.

It went very well. The intial walk through/estimate was great. He went through different options and pricing. Then there was the color board in which they do a sample of what your walkway will look like so you can approve it ahead of time. The project was done in one day and I am extremely happy with it and get many compliment on it. I like that it is now, more or less, a no slip surface as well.

I cannot express how amazing Alamo Ranch Hands is!! Not only are they extremely professional and so prompt with services rendered, they are the kindest and most reliable people you could ever work with. When trying to get my deck project going, I shopped around several companies through Angie’s List, and the gentlemen at Alamo Ranch Hands provided a perfect visual for what I wanted along with a very affordable price. Mark and Xavier took my vision and surpassed all my expectations, and I couldn’t be happier!! I will be using them for ALL my home improvement needs from this point forward, and there’s no better company to trust with your home. I could go on and on, but their impeccable quality of work speaks for itself. Working with them is such an amazing experience and is absolutely effortless. Look no further, this is the company you need!!

Recent Review: We had Mr. Solis refinish our hardwood floors. The job involved replacement of several thresholds. The work was performed in a timely, punctual and professional manner. The results are beautiful! We then asked him to repair and paint an interior wall, repair rotten wood siding and porch rails outside and stucco a portion of our siding. Mr. Solis was vigilant about the quality of the job and insisted everything be done right. We appreciated his high standards!

Recent Review: After seeing their product at the Minneapolis Home & Garden show we were convinced that this was the right product for our porch improvement work. The guys from EZ-Screen brought samples to our home to help us select frame color and installation method. They took careful measurements of all of the window and door openings and put our order in motion. A few weeks later our windows and door were delivered. We did this work at the same time we had some exterior siding work done by another contractor. We arranged to have that contractor do the actual installation of the EZ-Screen product. The rep from EZ-Screen came out to our site when the installation started to ensure that our contractor understood how to properly install the windows and door. Everything went smoothly and contractor commented on how easy the windows went in. After three full seasons of use we still enjoy the product and we're pleased that we chose this as part of our porch renovation. It has added several additional months to our porch usage in our short Minnesota summer seasons. I highly recommend this product for any new screen porch or porch renovation job!

Recent Review: We are very satisfied with John and his customer service. He was professional and courteous. He answered all our questions and didn't try to sell us anything us didn't want or need. He provided good advice and was honest. Instead of selling us the highest price for all windows screens, he only recommended them where the sun was most intense and the highest grade was needed. We definitely recommend John's services to others.

Recent Review: The deal expired. I contacted the provider and thought ip we could work something out, but it never happened. I ended up using Jesse's Painting from Angie's List. Probably the best thing that could have happened because Jesse was fabulous. I did not use his deal but just contracted with him the normal way.

Recent Review: We are thrilled. Curt is a true craftsman. The wall that was removed was a supporting wall, but he was able to reconstruct the area in the attic so that it could be removed. The result is a very open area - huge difference. We had a double window removed and replaced with french doors. Curt was able to save one of the windows to replace the existing door. He was also able to reuse the brick, so everything looks like it was original to the house. Curt removed the old florescent lighting and installed recessed lighting, and coordinated with a granite countertop company to provide gorgeous countertops and new sink for a great price and beautiful finish. In order to improve the flow of the room, I wanted to move the kitchen table closer to an existing window seat. Curt suggested we remove the window seat altogether, but since it was part of the window I didn't think we could. Curt designed a solution creating support from below the window outside, lengthening the siding. The result is seamless and stunning.

Recent Review: This company came recommended to us from the place we bought the hot tub as they had done good work in the past. Alex was responsive at first and work began. The pad was very roughly done, with rocks sticking out of the surface. We asked that it be resurfaced. They did, with something that resembled stucco and caused huge puddles to form because there was also a lip on the edge of the pad. The second resurfacing fixed some puddling, but water is still standing next to the hot tub. The electrician they used didn't know how to install this tub so we had to call the spa company several times and ask questions for the electrician. During spa set-up, the spa company fixed his mistakes and finished the job. The electrician was also late a couple of times for various reasons. Site clean-up was fine after calling them to remove the concrete forms and asking them to clean spilled concrete. Alex did knock off $200 from his original estimate, but it will cost more than that to fix the problems.

Recent Review: This is the second time we have hired D-Mar and David Martinez to do work at our home. The first job was inside the home, making new cabinet doors for our kitchen renovation. He did such a great job, when we decided to do some outside renovations, David was the only contractor we wanted. Initially we were just wanting the porch ceilings replaced and the porches and trim painted. After David came to give us the quote, he recommended we do a few additional things to improve the appearance and functionality of the homes exterior. I had budgeted $5000 for the job, and without the additional things that David recommended, we would have been well under budget. I think David is a perfectionist, and he made a good case for why we would want to have him do the additional work he recommended. We decided to have David do the job with all of his recommendations, Which put us slightly over the amount we had wanted to spend, but was worth every additional penny! I mention all this because, as homeowners, we generally know what we want, but we are not professional contractors. David's knowledge and expertise led us to spending a little more money, but gave us so much more than we expected! Our 40-year old farmhouse has been rejuvenated! We're already making plans for the next project we'll be hiring David's company to do. David and his whole crew are a pleasure to work with, honest, professional, personable... Everything you would want from a contractor.

What do customers in San Antonio say about Porch Builders?

The glowing reviews here are earned. After having plenty of headaches with remodeling contractors in San Antonio, I was lucky to find Structure Builders. I hired Rudy and his team to add a covered porch off the back of my home and the entire process went exactly as it should. His carpenters clearly knew what they were doing and recommended some simple upgrades to my design. They showed up everyday and often worked until dark. Best of all, their bid was more affordable than most others and there was no wrangling over unexpected costs along the way. Rudy runs a tight ship and pays for good talent that can handle most any type of construction. My new porch looks great. I was impressed and will recommend them to my neighbors without hesitation.
