We hired them to do a diagnostic on our gas fireplace that wasn’t turning on. They were able to come out fairly quickly and arrived within their appointment window. The pricing was reasonable. However, the technician was unable to determine the issue with the fireplace after about an hour. He recommended replacing the entire unit. We got a second opinion and the other company was able to diagnose the issue over the phone, make the repair, and save us hundreds of dollars or more.

I was so pleased with their work and friendliness. I haven't used my gas logs in a number of years as I didn't feel safe lighting it. They took everything out, cleaned it, and replaced it. They then showed me the correct and safe way to use my fireplace. I'm THRILLED to once again have the peace of mind that my fireplace is working properly.

First time using this company. Purchased deal on Angie's list and a very courteous young lady called to set up an appointment. On the scheduled date John the technician called to say he was on his way and was right on time. He was courteous, efficient and knowledgable. He did no make a mess and answered my questions as he worked. It was not a part of the deal but along with the fireplace maintenance I got piece of mind. Will be calling them back in the fall and for another home in the future.

Jack cleaned up our fireplace and helped teach us how to use it. He made us aware of a few idiosyncrasies in our system. He was very punctual and polite.

Called to schedule an appointment for a gas fireplace. They had been out a couple of years before. Woman extremely rude. Said they would not come out because they are too busy for that.

WARNING - WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD! We were threatened, yelled at, called a liar, and hung up on by Roland, while attempting to have a civil conversation about our services. Extremely unprofessional! Additionally, they said we needed work done that turned out to be unnecessary, which makes me question their integrity. Here are the details: Our pilot light on our gas fireplace would not stay lit. Roland came out and after inspecting said that the pilot assembly needed to be replaced. The estimate provided had no breakdown of parts/labor, just one price for the pilot assembly ($425). He said to let him know if we wanted to go forward and he would order the part. Not knowing any better, we agreed. About a week later, I had a day off and we had not heard from Roland yet. I decided to take a look at the fireplace myself. After simply cleaning out the pilot light burner, it worked like a champ. No $425 repair was necessary after all. So, beware of their estimates. But, now for the big issue. We e-mailed them to let them know that we fixed the fireplace and wouldn't need their services. Of course, we did pay $129 for the initial inspection. Roland's reply was, "So am I stuck with part?" We replied that the part was unnecessary and returns should be between him and his vendor. Appliance parts are almost always returnable unopened. This is a part that I've located for $130 on Amazon and is returnable. Again, he was charging us $425. He responded with a ridiculous e-mail about our repair being a binding contract (the repair which turned out to be not needed), and that if he could not sell the part, we would get a bill. So, I picked up the phone to get to the bottom of this, expecting to speak with someone that is a business man thinking about potential future business and not just focusing on a $130 part that he can't return because of who he chooses to get his parts from. Quite the contrary. He started by telling me that he told my wife that if we change our mind then he would be stuck with the part. Not something that a technician would normally say, and definitely not something that he said to my wife. That sort of thing stands out. He said very aggressively that he did say it and maybe next time I should be there for service calls, as if my wife is a liar and can't handle things on her own. Nice touch. That was followed by yelling, "Did you approve the estimate? Did you? Did you?" Again, I tried to discuss this from a business perspective, wanting to say that if he can't return parts once ordered, then he should put this as a statement on his estimate, or in writing somewhere along the way, instead of calling people liars that he forgets to say this to. It just makes business sense. Also, a parts/labor breakdown would then be in order. But, I got to say none of this because before I could respond, he said, "Never call me again!" and hung up on me. Wow. This kind of anger and aggression in dealing with a customer over a cheap part that they didn't even really need is more than alarming. It's scary. I wouldn't recommend trusting him to come into your home, when it takes very little to make him snap.

Responding to my initial review where some questions were left unanswered, the company (Jack) returned and addressed all my questions with details. He gave me additional suggestions regarding the gas logs and and the care needed to continue successful use. I greatly appreciated his attention to my concerns.

Tech used a shop vac to vacuum gas fireplace, used brush to dry scrub faux logs and replaced some faux embers within 30 minutes of arrival. It was messy, but surprisingly easy. Will clean myself next time.

Not good. You really need to make sure to understand that tune up is not going to happen. They basically bring a vacuum and clean the inside of the fireplace. My fireplace had a pilot light and a switch that turned on the ignition of the pilot. When they arrived, they basically vacuumed the fireplace and pipe cleaned the exterior vent. They don't even clean the cover glass. Said the chemicals could be flammable. Ummm shouldn't you know what chemicals you can use to clean the inside glass of the fireplace? When I asked if they could light the pilot light and troubleshoot the pilot ignition issue, they basically said, call an electrician they don't deal with gas or electrical issues. So they basically vacuumed my fireplace for $225 dollars.... NOT WORTH THE VALUE! There was no tune up, no cleaning of the pilot light, no explanation or suggestion of parts or additional services. Not a qualified person for gas fireplaces.

They did a thorough job of emptying, cleaning, replacing and testing my gas fireplace logs, embers, burners. etc. It works and looks great. The only problem I had was they left black ember powder on the brick ledge of the fireplace as well as two spots on my carpet. I had to use rug cleaner to get it off the carpet. I am very happy with the quality of service itself and would recommend.

After getting a very high quote from another company for this job, I contacted CAPPS based on a recommendation from my realtor. The first company said they were going to have to tear out part of the wall to get to the area where the shut-off valve had to go. CAPPS was able to tell from photos I sent them that they could pull the pipe from the attic, install the shut-off valve on the pipe, and then reinstall the pipe, all without having to mess up the walls. They gave me a rough estimate of $250, since it was based on just photos, and then when the technician came, he confirmed the quote before he started the work. He did a great job and the final price was less than what they quoted me.

Recent Review: Great experience with Mr. Plumber, they were very accommodating in scheduling around my work hours. We had not used our gas fireplace since purchasing our home. Troy was diligent in inspecting the system and made sure I was comfortable operating it. Now that we know everything is in good shape we are ready for winter. Will also reach out to this company for bids on upcoming plumbing & gas needs.

Recent Review: I read about Masonry Arts on Angie's List in 2010 and had the owner, Bob Abel, out to my home for an estimate at that time. We delayed the project for about a year, but when I called Bob for an updated estimate he remembered me and my project. He returned with his book of project photos so that my husband and I could get an idea of the appearance of the finished fireplace. He spent quite a bit of time with us discussing stone options. Bob called me with a revised estimate within a few days and we decided to go forward with the project. Demolition of the old fireplace took place around noon on a Tuesday. Bob's masonry crew covered my tile floor with plywood and drop cloths for protection, then proceeded to remove the old oak mantel and brick face. As Bob had warned me, it was a very dusty demolition, but his crew was finished and gone within two hours. I had asked them to return Thursday to lay the new stone since I had other contractors coming to handle other aspects of the project (that's another report!) As it turned out, they were not able to return until Saturday, but once they came back they lost no time getting the new stone fireplace installed. Bob was on site for both the demolition and most of the construction of the new fireplace, a service my husband and I appreciated. On his advice, we used Sienna limestone in a variety of sizes; we requested that they install two pieces as support corbels for the new mantel, which they did. His crew again protected our floors and left no debris on the street or anywhere on our property. There was more to our project than simply replacing the brick; the interior of the fireplace needed repair and we wanted to run electricity and cable inside the wall so that we could mount a TV above the fireplace. A general contractor gave me a bid to run the entire project, but her bid was quite vague and I was not comfortable doing business with her. I decided to act as my own general contractor and am very pleased with the outcome, thanks in large part to the quality of work that Masonry Arts did. We look forward to working with Bob again in the future.

What do customers in San Antonio say about Gas Fireplace Installation?

I hired Hill Country Fireplaces to install a gas fireplace kit with portable propane to an exiting fireplace chimmey (which had never been used prior). I contacted Robert (owner) from Angie's List. After tralking to Robert I realized he owned the family business and he came across as a very friendly and down to earth individual-- something that is rare today. Robert was very knowledgeable of the work product and the services needed for our needs. He came out for an estimate and told us step-by-step what would be needed. He left us with a brochure to review kits and to validate prices online if we elected to do so--we chose to rely on Robert's expertise. Robert was able to get us on his schedule within one week--he was on time and installed a quality unit. Working with he and his wife for the estimate, scheduling, and ordering of the unit went very smooth--they are a great combination with running their business. I would highly recommend Hill Country Fireplaces to perform your work. We are extremely satisfied with their service and final product.
