Recent Review: Lone Star State Construction was my company of choice, based on many very good Angie's List reviews. And now I can add another excellent review to the others. Dave Peters, one of the co-owners, arrived at our home at the agreed upon appointment time, and quickly reviewed the projects we needed done. I was being treated for cancer during most of 2011 and had really let things slide. Dave assured my husband, John & I that his company could undertake all the work we needed done. We received his written estimate quickly, made small adjustments, and soon a very fair and comprehensive contract had been signed by both sides. This written contract made clear the terms and limitations of the work so that there would be no disputes or surprises during this project. On the first day of work, Dave introduced us to Kevin Keenan, who would be the superintendent for our project - overseeing all the subcontractors, Mike Rees (Reeser Construction), who would be the daily on-the-job manager for all carpentry, remodeling, and painting work, and Richard Stein (R-B Electrical), who was there to critique our old wiring. Each man was professional and brought a team of craftsmen and technicians who impressed us: every worker arrived at the agreed upon time every day of this project; every man worked hard, some not taking lunch breaks - and the ones who did break for lunch were back on the job quickly (I worried about them); and every single man on this job respected our privacy and property. We grew to think of many of these workers as friends and found them completely trustworthy. Our project lasted for slightly over 3 months (we did take a short Christmas trip) so we got to know these professionals very well. Mike Rees, our Canadian hockey playing top dog, was able to keep all of his team on point and provided quality work, going way over what we expected. His painters, especially David, were so careful with every detail and we just could not be happier with the job they did on old tired walls. Richard Stein, Juan and Mike, worked so hard to rewire our old home, while making as few holes in the walls as possible. During this project, our insurance agent confirmed that we needed a completely new roof. Richard worked patiently with Mr. Manual Garcia and his roofing team to rewire the home as each section of roof was opened. This took a lot of coordination, but saved many holes from being knocked in our walls. Richard and his team even worked on some Saturday's in order to keep the project on time. Mr. Garcia's roofers worked steadily every day, and after the very bad rain.wind storm in January 2012, a section of roof which was almost complete was damaged. The entire team (Mike, Richard, and Mr. Garcia) worked hard to repair all the damage with no additional cost to us. We were amazed! As you can see from the list of jobs we had done, our home changed a lot. Our kitchen has beautiful new quartz counter tops, ceramic back splash, and a great looking drop in range and vent hood. The den has a completely new wall surrounding the fireplace and the water damaged floor was replaced. Our bath rooms have new hardware, vanity, and tile. Every room is freshly painted, with new crown molding, AND no more ugly acoustic tile ceilings. The old tired carpet is gone, replaced by completely repaired and refinished floors. I am sorry that I do not know the name of the subcontractors for the floor, but they worked quickly and did an amazing job. The floors look brand new. LSSC also provided plumbing and AC/Heat contractors during this project. I do not have their company names, but their work was totally professional. Our plants are thriving in the light of our new atrium roof. And, I can sleep peacefully knowing that the roof will not leak and the electrical wiring is safe and totally up to code (having passed each inspection in the process). The main reason this project was completed in a timely manner and with great results is the superintendent we were assigned: Kevin Keenan. Kevin was at our home every day of this project (with the exception of a short vacation which had been planned before our job began, and co-owner Daren Peters was here daily during that short period). Any question we had, any change to the contract we desired, any new item we decided needed to be done - we just told Kevin one time and he took complete charge and got it done. We had his number and he ALWAYS returned calls, or came right over if there was any question. I cannot stress strongly enough how much his oversight of this project meant to us. He became a trusted friend and certainly was the key to this project being a success, in our opinion. He has an eagle eye and saw things we did not even know needed to be done. Kevin also arranged for our home to be completely cleaned at the end of the project, and that included the windows - inside and out. We never expected that and it saved us a lot of time and money: everything looked so fresh and clean. This was a wonderful end to a big project and we could not have been happier than with the supervision Kevin provided during this project. To have put together such an excellent team of subcontractors is no easy thing. Lone Star State Construction and the Peters' family have done an excellent job in a profession where problems always pop up and participants are always changing. In fact, Daren Peters even stepped in one day when Kevin was out of town, got his tools out of his truck, and worked hard to solve an unexpected problem. This family run business is just the best. When I save more money, this will be the only company I call for future projects.
