Solid General Construction
5.0
My first interaction with Nick, the owner, was when he came to my home to give me a price estimate for work that I wanted done. Nick was very personable, attentive, and knowledgeable as I walked him through the house showing him the various improvements needed. Nick was extremely prompt in providing the written price estimate. Compared to other estimates I had received, Nick’s overall estimate was comparable. My deciding factor to go with Solid General Construction vs. another company was Nick’s personality... come to find out, the entire team at Solid General Construction are friendly, polite, knowledgeable, and skilled. There were no bait & switch surprises… the price estimate that was provided was what I got. After projects were started, there were a few add-ons that I requested, and each time Nick provided an accurate estimate for the add-ons. I had a fairly long list of home improvement projects that needed to be done. Prior to starting, Nick had provided me with a calendar schedule outlining all of the projects with dates as to when they would begin and be completed. Nick stuck to the schedule and actually finished the work a week early. Solid General Construction’s work was done well, on time, at a good price, and by a talented team. I would recommend them to anyone who has home improvement needs… I will definitely use their services again.

Phillip was great! I was really grateful for him spreading the work out and the hours he was at work. With two small children and 3 cats to worry about, it made everything go very smoothly! He was great at communicating when he would be there and what he was working on that day. He also completed the work on schedule. We would use Phillip again in a heartbeat!

R&R Construction
5.0
The house needed new windows and exterior finish as well as work on the living room area to replace damaged floors and install a set of French doors. R&R subcontracted gutters and stucco; I purchased the fireplace insert separately, but R&R installed the new slate surround. R&R installed the windows and French doors and poured a new concrete pad outside the slider to replace a rotted deck. They removed an unused wood stove and repaired the floor and wall, and removed an old chimney and repaired the roof. While we were working we discovered some electrical deficiencies which R&R corrected. They also installed a new driveway light. R&R Construction has done several jobs for me in the past and I honestly would be reluctant to have anyone else work on my house. Randy, Ryan and Chris did a superb job -- Ryan in particular practically lived at my house for three months repairing the hardwood flooring, installing tile (he even matched the circular cuts in the existing tile floor) and French doors, and installing slate and a new mantle with the new fireplace insert. The walk-in closet in the master bedroom had been added on and required an awkward step-down. Ryan raised and insulated the closet floor. The wood exterior of the house was discolored and rotting; I wanted something easier to maintain and more fire resistant. Randy suggested stucco and recommended a local contractor who did a great job. Randy also subbed out the gutter installation and again his recommended firm was excellent. The house looks SO MUCH BETTER and is much more functional.

Guy Biggs Construction
5.0
This old house was built in the 40's and remodeled once in the 70's. Guy replaced the older butcher block counter with granite, along with window sill; replaced the sink, faucet; replaced the old drop ceiling and the old fluorescent lights with recessed can lighting; replaced the bar lighting with new pendant lights; built and installed soffit above cabinets with crown molding; added a cabinet to match old cupboards above refrigerator and extended cupboard above the oven, removed the old headerboard; replaced the old wallpaper with tiled back splash and replaced old brick veneer with birch that matched perfectly the cupboards and painted the kitchen and dining room. The kitchen is updated and beautiful. They did a wonderful job and their cleanliness was so very appreciated. I would hire them again and I have referred them to family and friends.

Your Handyman Service - Matt McSwan

It was not an easy cut and dried gutter cleaning. This was a closed gutter system that was not installed properly. Birds had access from the back and had years of building nests clogging them. 2 other handymen could not figure out how to get into the gutter. Matt got right in there, figured out how to gain access, took out a ton of muck, replaced it all neatly back and cleaned up after himself. He’s a jewel. Professional and respectful.

CHRISTIAN CONSTRUCTION

This is the second time we have used Jim Christian Construction. They had done a beautiful job tearing down a wall and combining 2 small rooms into a large family room for us. So when we wanted our kitchen partially remodeled we called Jim. As before, Jim came out, made suggestions and gave us a very reasonable estimate. With Jim at the head, he guided us to a granite store to begin there. He recommend having all the colors for counters, backsplash, and accents that worked well with our cabinets decided on before he began the project. His recommendations along the way helped with the process. The men working for Jim were very professional also. They were knowledgeable, extremely efficient and courteous. I was very comfortable having them in my home. Jim worked hard to accommodate us in many ways. I appreciate his work ethic as well as that of his men. I would definitely and have recommended Jim Christian Construction to anyone looking to remodel.

All the workers were polite, tidy & concerned about keeping the house clean. Tile installer did an absolutely fantastic job & very pleased with employee who installed vanity and handled customizing the vanity drawer to avoid plumbing under the sink. Very satisfied with work done.

Our existing vinyl shower shell had deteriorated to the point where we had patched holes several times. A friend of ours had remodeled all of their bathrooms and helped us organize this project. We wanted to replace the shower with tile - because it was not a standard size, we could not install a bathtub. We also wanted to install a tile floor, update to a water efficient toilet and improve the lighting and venting. In addition, we had moved our furnace from a kitchen closet area to the attic in Sept 2010. We wanted to convert this space to a pantry. We wanted to install flooring to match the existing kitchen floor have multiple shelves and a light. Brian had the idea to install a light that would turn on and off when we opened the door. Brian worked with us to keep the project within our budget - allowing us to find ways to do the important work within our means. We met with Brian to confirm the work and he started later that week. The first week he did the demolition of the old bathroom. He removed all of waste materials and protected our house where he walked in and out. When he came to any decisions, he worked with us to discuss the options so we could make appropriate changes. He took into account our budget and also what made the most sense in terms of long term results. After the demolition, Brian worked to reinforce the floor to hold the weight of the tile and the weight of a new glass door. He also framed out the niche which would be tiled to create a shelf that did not impact the interior space of this small shower. He was able to maximize the opening to accommodate large bottles while also keeping the finished area in line with the tile design. He moved the drain to center it as much as possible in the space (we had a support beam in the center of the space. Brian installed a vent with automated timer with attached to an existing unused vent to the roof. He used insulated ducting to prevent moisture buildup in the attic. In addition, he installed a separate light over the shower. I think this is the best lit room in the house now. While waiting for the tile work to start, Brian worked on the pantry area. He patched the existing holes in the walls, ceiling and floor. This included closing up the air vent returns in the hall and living room. He installed flooring in the space and drywall on the ceiling. He installed a push button switch in the door frame and a can LED light in the ceiling. We wanted several shelves within the pantry and Brian worked with us to maximize this small space. The room is approximately 2 feet by 4 feet - deep and narrow. Brian designed L shaped shelves on adjustable rails. This allows us to fit 4 L shaped shelves and one regular shelf in the space. It is amazing how usable the space is - and how much we can fit in there! To save money, we did all primer and paint work. When the tile work was set to start, Brian worked with Eric from Olsem Tile and Stone to ensure the design was implemented correctly. We all worked together to lay the tile out and ensure there were no issues. Once the tile was installed and sealed, Brian came back to finish the room. He installed the toilet and reinstalled the sink with a new faucet. We love our new bathroom and were very happy with our experience with Brian and Band B Harvey Construction.

Contract services we not individually priced so not easy to see where costs could be reduced. The initial payment required exceeded the 10% limit but I trusted him from his reviews. Main project costs did not increase unexpectedly. Extras were reasonable. Main remodel job, drywall repair and doors completed in 2 weeks. Bob was very responsive and on time. He required me to deliver all heavy finish materials (vanity, top and tiles)-would have been nice if delivery was part of the contract. Workers were considerate and cleaned up well. A few doors seemed out of spec and he had to shim them or replace the jams with wider wood. I should have checked them more closely. Not completely satisfied with these two doors but the multiple extra services he provided at reasonable cost made up for it.

Recent Review: On 12/14/11, we contracted with American Dream Homeworks of Sacramento, Ca. for a complete re-model of our kitchen/breakfast nook area. Also included was the replacement of the Master Bath shower pan, shower hardware/plumbing, and tile in the shower area. The quoted cost was $29,700.00. ADH then ordered the cabinets and construction started on 1/30/12. The workers were very courteous, friendly, and informative. They arrived as scheduled, worked hard and efficiently, and strived to keep the area as clean and dust free as possible with a minimal disruption to our lives. The kitchen overall turned out very beautiful. The colors we chose blended together very well for a warm and cozy feel. However, there were some issues with the granite. We feel there are too many pieces which create too many noticeable seams. It seems they chose to use smaller left-over pieces rather than larger virgin pieces. Also, they wanted us to accept chips and pock-marks in the piece where the sink was. After much discussion and our holding up payment, they decided to replace that one piece. They had us decide between three replacement pieces. We chose the one with the smoothest surface. However, when it was installed, there was a clash in color with the adjoining piece which made that seam more noticeable. The left and right sides of the counter top are both beautiful and both would be acceptable in separate kitchens but clash when next to each other. As much as we love the overall look of the project, we are not completely satisfied with the granite. We released the funds to ADH because we always pay our debts and we appreciate the good work that was done. American Dream Homeworks promised 100% customer satisfaction but have fallen short of the goal. In December, 2012, the granite issues were resolved. Defective granite was removed and new granite counter-tops were installed in a timely manner.

Recent Review: The work was accomplished quickly and professionally. Work was added during this time, including repairing dishwasher. All work was handled and the work areas were cleaned when workers left. I am in the process of hiring them again for further work. I would recommend them to my friends who need a general contractor.

Recent Review: We are incredibly pleased with our kitchen remodeling by Solid Construction & Design!! They remodeled our kitchen, painted our dining room and living room, and renovated our fireplace. The project took about 5 weeks and we are very pleased and delighted with the final results. We got to work with Oleg (the owner) who inspected our kitchen, gave us design ideas, and got us a detailed estimate based on our selection. We made a trip to their convenient showroom to make the material selections and JCruz was very friendly and helped us with that. Vitaly was our project manager and also did a great job coordinating the installation team. The scope of work included a full kitchen remodel (our kitchen is fairly large) - so the existing kitchen was completely demoed and all appliances were disposed. We went with brand new solid wood white shaker cabinets, custom Silestone quartz countertops (Cambria island), new tile backsplash, new laminate flooring & baseboards, painted the whole kitchen & dining area, installed new pendant lights, and more. They did everything (including hooking up the appliances, and also electrical work as well). We later had them update the LED lights throughout our whole house. We always recieved prompt attention and can surely say that Solid Construction and Design was a pleasure to do business with. We have referred them to friends and family and will continue to do so.

Business Description: My name is Josh, owner of Joshua's Painting Service. I have been painting for the majority of my life, with my dad as a kid until now. I'm blessed to be able to say I truly love what I do. I enjoy being a painting contractor. Whether you are an excited homeowner wanting to make their home new again, a realtor looking to make a client happier or a property manager sprucing up an old building. No matter the job, big or small, I am there every step of the way with my employees throughout the process. Whether I am giving free estimates, suggestions on colors, doing the drywall and stucco repairs or replacing dry rotted boards I AM there. Every day, every step of the way. I take great pride in all that I do but especially in my prep work. Without good prep work the finished product won't hold up. But of course my favorite part has to be the finished product, seeing a home or business transform into somebody's dream is always the best! My promise to you, my prospective customer, is to always be there to answer my phone, be on time, and do exactly what I said I would do for the price I said I would do it for. I know if I do these few things I will always be in business, always be busy and always have satisfied customers.

Recent Review: Excellent work, efficiently done. These guys are total pros. They showed up when they said they would. They were careful and proficient. They cleaned up after themselves. And every time I had an inspection (one from the city and another from SMUD), the inspector said, unsolicited, that the work was top quality. I requested a couple tweaks to the heating and air and they did them immediately and with no questions asked. It's possible you could find people to do the same work for less (though their price was quite competitive), but I don't think you could find anyone who would do it better. I've already recommended them unreservedly to friends..

Recent Review: This was a large project for us and involved quite a bit of our home. It went quickly. No demolition was started until the cabinets were ready to be installed. After 3.5 weeks, we were back in our kitchen. The quality of the work was excellent in all cases. The WDS crew is highly skilled and competent and the subcontractors are as well. People cleaned up well after themselves at the end of day. No one smoked on sight. It all went really well. Dave, our contractor, gave us a lot of help in designing the kitchen layout and in selecting components like granite, tile, lights and flooring. I did not have a vision for the kitchen, except that it be larger, so really needed this help. He made suggestions, but did not push for anything in particular, which worked well for me. Initially I was thinking of putting in an island, but Dave pointed out we only had room for a tiny island and it would be the same price if not cheaper to move the door and expand the kitchen. Done and done. In addition to making the kitchen larger, we had a pocket door installed between the kitchen and dining room. Termites were discovered in that area and the damage was repaired. We had a small pantry that was converted to cabinets along with a shelf and wiring for the microwave. There was enough granite to line the shelf under the microwave and that really looks nice. The cabinets include a pull out shelf that houses bins for recycling and garbage. New wiring was also installed for the lights over the new breakfast bar. Dave has lots of experience and seemed to read us very well and understand our priorities. I appreciate working with someone who's been in the business long enough to have seen everything and know what to do about it. It's clear he wants to do a good job and wants us to be happy with the end product and we are.
