Reviews in Richmond to Repair Exterior Trim

Gave us an estimate for labor, and to adda 1×6 board covering with siding then finishing caulking. Price was fair, but the estimate was not what was actually performed and the price was a bit higher. We paid, but will be more cautious if used again.

Virginia Exterior Products

Virginia Exterior Products and George went way above the call of duty with the full exterior job they did at our home. All new siding, windows, trim, trim wrap and new screen porch were completed in approx 9 days. The quality of the work was impeccable, the crew kept a very neat work space and were very respectful. George was accommodating to a few change orders through the project and always returned calls and met with us to walk through the project before, during and after it was completed. Virginia Exterior Products set the gold standard in workmanship and ease of doing business in which all other contractors should be compared!

Reagan and his team did a really nice job. They were attentive to details and didn't hesitate to point out issues that weren't covered in the initial estimate. I think that it was a bigger job than they had anticipated, but they did it cheerfully and professionally. If we had a minor complaint, they fixed it without question.

HANDYMAN MATTERS

Company showed up on time (actually early, but waited outside until appointment time). I showed him the areas of concern (3 window sills had rotted wood on parts of sill, parts of the trim were rotted around 1 window, several siding boards were rotted at the ends). Duane offered me a couple of different options to fix the problems. We settled on using an epoxy material to fix the wood rot in lieu of replacing the entire sill for each window. He estimated 2.5-3 hours for the job (including shopping for material). It ended up taking 5 hours (which cost me an extra $140 at $68/hour) to complete the job, and he accidentally missed 2 small areas of rotted wood on 2 of the window sills that I will need to repair later. While shopping, he did pick up material so I could finish another project we discussed. Duane was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and courteous.

Regal Home Improvement

They did a great job!! I got quotes from the 3 major home improvement companies in our area (the ones everyone uses). Regal wasn't the lowest (they were in the middle), but they agreed to match the lowest quote & they also were the best about returning calls & showing up when they said they would - which seems to be a problem for a lot of contractors in Richmond. I worked with Art Mullian & was very specific with him in going through the details of the job and what was included in their quote. I asked a lot of questions & probably made a real nuisance of myself but he was great about it & wrote up the bid exactly as we discussed. He also gave us references and my wife & I checked out some of their past jobs in our area. Regal's work seemed good, so we went with them & I'm really glad we did. The houses in our neighborhood originally had that compressed paperboard siding & I can't express how much I hated it. If the whole house wasn't painted every 2 or 3 years, then moisture got in the cracks & the cardboard siding would start to fall apart. I'd been planning for years to replace it all with HardiePlank but it's a big job. Hardie is expensive but absolutely worth it because it lasts so long & we used the pre-colored type so I won't even have to paint anything for at least 15 years. I love this stuff. Regal used PVC & some non-Hardie materials for the insulation & trim replacement to save some expense, and that was fine with me too. Their crew showed up on time every day, worked through some of the hottest days of the year, and still got the job done quickly. And it looks fantastic!! It really makes the house look great & I love knowing that it will stay that way a long time. I can't say enough good stuff about Regal & its crew. Since this was a big investment, I was really worried, but they were very responsive to my questions, explained their plans & why things were done certain ways, and fixed things right away the few times I wanted to make changes during the job. They also cleaned up really well & didn't leave my yard a wreck. I would definitely use them again. I also had them replace my old wrought iron front railing at the same time they did the siding. Some of the posts were broken off at the bottom & rusted. It was way past due. They did a great job on that as well. The new railing is solid as a rock. Regal also handled removing all outside lighting & re-attaching everything once the new siding was up. It all went very smoothly.

The response time for the initial quote was very quick. We had good communication with the project coordinator. The colors came out looking just the way we hoped. The crew on site was efficient and very professional. On the plus side, they did a great job of properly priming all the new siding I had on the house, which was quite a bit. The applied all the stain by hand, which I prefer. My neighbor gets it done with a sprayer and it always seems too thin and doesn't seem to last as long. There was no mess of any kind before, during or after the job. The only concern I had, and perhaps this was my own fault for not clarifying ahead of time, was some of the caulking on the older cedar siding. I had assumed that when caulking was included in the quote, they would take care of any gaps in the siding that can happen as the cedar dries over time. While they did caulk all the trim pieces and edges, they didn't do the siding in between. Maybe I just assumed that and needed to spell it out. But that was my only criticism of the job. I would certainly use them again, I would just be clearer on my expectations.

Reagan, the crew chief and estimator, was punctual and professional from the estimate to execution of the job. We feel that this company is honest and fair in their pricing. We even had them caulk the chimney and come back to fix a leak in the roof. This company will be the first we call when we have need for future home improvements.

Lonestar Siding & Windows

The Lonestar team was great to work with. There was no pressure during the initial sales visit and they were honest every step of the way as to where we would get the most benefit. Once work began, Greg Paul handled all of our questions and concerns timely and professionally. The installation of the windows and gutters went quick and they look great. One issue popped up with the location of the new downspouts and Greg was quick to resolve it and have them relocated without issue. We are overall very pleased with the experience and would recommend them for any exterior work.

Mike came out promptly and provided a detailed estimate broken down per item for the work we requested as well as some additional work we are planning for the future. This made it easier for us to budget the various parts of the job if we needed to. No high pressure sales which we appreciated. He and his crew arrived exactly when they said they would, were neat and polite. The new window was installed quickly and caulked to minimize heat loss. The owner (Mike) was present on the job site at all times. He explained in detail the work that he and his crew were doing on the installation and the work they would be doing on the second floor. Took the time to show us the features of the new window and how it worked for cleaning etc. Explained in detail how the trim casing was custom fitted and made on site. His crew repaired and replaced the damaged trim on the second floor window, encased and caulked it. The window trim looks like a new window and is completely sealed to prevent and further water damage. Site was cleaned up afterwards. Mike was respectful and pleasant and sensitive to our time frame (installed during my lunch hour). All in all this was a good experience with Pro Home Services and we would use them again.

They did a fantastic job. They are wonderful people, They did a few extra handyman services around the house also. They quoted me $5000 and the owner, Mike said he wasn't going to charge extra even though it took longer than normal but I threw in $200 more for all the little extras they did. They were great!

Business Description: Commonwealth Energy Systems opened for business on April 6, 1999, but we were not the new kids on the block. The owner, Stephen Smith, and eight key employees had all worked for the largest window and siding company in Central Virginia and had a combined experience of over 170 years in the home improvement field. We all had learned that just selling a quality product was not enough. Even the best product is not satisfactory if it is not installed properly. We pride ourselves on the very best window and siding installers who only work for us. It is much more cost effective to do the job right the first time. Much of our business is obtained by referrals from our satisfied customers. We do have a service department, because some things are unavoidable such as glass breakage. When service is required, we do it in a timely fashion. We are proudly celebrating our 15 year anniversary.

Recent Review: . The crews were always prompt and friendly and cleaned up thoroughly when they were done. If I had to do it again, I would have spent more time with the estimator about the deck repairs, it looks fine and they did a good job, but I probably should have replaced the entire thing instead of trying to salvage what was there. I was very happy with their work, would definitely use them again.
