Michael and Chris did a comprehensive inspection and estimate. It was complicated because they had to increase the airflow and they had to figure out a way to add supply vent. The possible solutions were thoroughly explained beforehand. It took longer than they expected for the install because they tried to minimize the aesthetic impact when installing a new vent. They also had to find a way to get the inside unit into the crawlspace without digging up the well wall. They did a great job and did not charge more than the contract estimate even though it took more time, manpower and equipment than the calculated for the estimate. The crew members were all courteous, knowledgeable and efficient - exceedingly professional. They cleaned up completely when they were done including removal of the old system. Would definitely use Automatic Climate again.

Larry is so good he doesn't even have to advertise and has tons of work, but was able to work me in without any problem. ! My neighbor highly recommended him, but I got estimates from three of the big HVAC businessed first, and then Larry. I was leery at first of having just one person do the work, but oh, my goodness, I couldn't be happier. His estimate was very competitive and I even upgraded the gas furnace to a 95 percent rating. Some of the bigger companies prices were close to Larry's, but that was after deducting spring specials etc. While it's nice to think you were getting a big savings I wondered if the prices were inflated to begin with. His warranties were inline with the others and there was no push to sign up for maintenance packages -- the equipment and the workmanship stand on their own. Because he did all the work himself I was assured that everything was done thoroughly and right. He has his name and standards to live up to and you can't go wrong with him or the equipment he installs. He's a wonderful person and will address your needs with care and concern.

Emailed Daniel Armstrong that I had purchased the Big Deal and he responded right away. He explained that he wanted to come out and see my current system to make sure the unit and coils would work in my home before I was charged by Angie's List. He arrived on time, was courtneous, dressed neatly, took detailed measurements, asked questions and determined that everything would work. We scheduled the installation day, but I had to cancel and he rescheduled right away. Daniel and a co-worker arrived on time and the installation went smoothly and efficiently. I was able to work on a computer in another room the entire time. The job was completed several hours early and everything was clean and neat. Fantastic experience.

We were replacing a gas furnace and a central air conditioner with a heat pump system and asked for bids from three companies. The quotes we received were all within a few hundred dollars of each other. However, the James River representative had shown us that, due to manufacturer rebates, they would be installing significantly more efficient equipment that we could get elsewhere. The sales representative from James River, Frank Mergler, was exceptionally well-informed about the available technology, the principles of home heating and cooling, and the current status of various rebates, government incentives and tax credits. In fact, he told us about some credits and rebates which were never even mentioned by the other companies. In addition, he had the installation crew perform some minor "tweaks" to our system to ensure that we would get the best possible results from our new equipment. We were also very favorably impressed by the installer, Scott, and a plumber, Chris (who was there to give us an estimate on some other work.) Both of them were very efficient, hard-working, knowledgeable, able to clearly answer any of our questions, and considerate of the cleanliness of our home. Overall, we had an "A+" experience with James River Air.

Our 13 year old air conditioner died and we purchased a replacement from Durham and Sons. We got 4 estimates from different providers. RJ's estimate fell in the middle. We chose him based on the product he was offering, the price, the Angie's list reviews, the fact that he was willing to come out to see us in the evening so that we didn't have to take time off of work, and the fact that he was the only person who came out for the estimate who actually crawled around in the attic to take a look at the ductwork and pointed out that our dryer vent was no longer connected to the roof and was spreading lint all over the attic (a fire hazard). -- We had him fix that too. It took 4 full days to complete the installation because we had to move the whole system over by a foot which meant rebuilding the plenum and the box on which it sat. I appreciated that they loaned us a window a/c unit since it would have been miserably hot in the house without it. The job they did was beautiful. Even the FPL guy who came to inspect the duct work said it was the "prettiest" box he'd ever seen. Everything was neat and tidy and professionally done. And the Trane system we chose works great. I was very pleased with the the whole thing. It was rather expensive but I suspect there isn't much one can do about that unless you buy a piece of junk. The ethernet wiring job was an add on that we threw in figuring that we already had people in the attic anyway, we might as well run the wires too. It was a bit of a challenge because the wires originated in a room which had been added on to the house so there was no attic and the wires had to be run over the original concrete block exterior wall. But with the conduit they installed, we'll be able to run new wires if necessary in the future and now my TVs (and xbox) have a direct connection to the router. I felt that the wiring cost was a bit high but the job was well done.

The compressor in the old unit died and definitely needed to be replaced. Danny clearly explained the cost-benefit options of replacing the whole system versus paying for the costly replacement compressor with a limited warranty. We also needed to consider what type of refrigerant the old system had (R-22) since it is being phased out in favor of a more efficient and environmentally friendly refrigerant, R410A. It would have been more costly in the long term to continue servicing the old system with out-of-date refrigerant. The warranty on the new system is 10 years versus a one year warranty on the replacement compressor. We are extremely satisfied with the new system because it cools the house much better and it is less costly to operate (more efficient). I have used them before and they are very knowledgeable. They were able to come in and fix what another electrical company couldn t fix. They also charged us a fair price for the work that they did.

I had an emergency with my air conditioner. I called them in the morning and they came out at noon. The part that held all the wire in my air conditioner had fallen down somewhere. They told me to turn off my air conditioning unit and I turned it off. They did not cut the wires but fixed it. They were very good and quick. They were a little pricy. They always called twenty minutes to let me know before they got in.

We had these guys come out and clean our AC because it had a funny odor. The first time they came out, they did an okay job, but the smell was back within days. The second time they came back, we had to stand on top if them to really clean -- they "missed" the fact that the drip pan was full of water and had organic material growing in it. Upon closer inspection, we realized there was no drain hole that allowed the water to escape (hence the mold and funky smell). They agreed to come out the next day and drill the hole (it really is that easy of a fix). When we called again today -- two days later -- they said they didn't know anything about the need to drill the hole. We're not impressed and would encourage folks to think twice before hiring them.

Outstanding. We had been stood up by two other AC business and I was very so I looked at Angie's List and found Automatic Climate Heating & Air Conditioning. I called and phone was immedtately by the service tech. I told him my problem and he asked how soon would I need a technician to which I replied as soon as possible. He then said he could have someone to us between 11:00 AM and 1:00PM which I said that would be perfect. Told me he would have the tech call when he was on the way. Received a phone call from Matt, the technician about noon to say he would arrive in 20-30 minutes. Matt pulled up at 12:25 PM and after introductions he asked where he could start Showed him to our attic where the upstairs unit was located. Matt came downstairs about 45-50 minutes with one big question which was..."When was the last time we had the units serviced, Our reply was 2002 to which answered many questions." He show us pictures he had taken of some problems (one or two major one and a few minor ones. My wife asked about a service agreement and the cost. Matt explained the types that they offered and that if we took an agreement today, we could exercise the Spring Service so we said we would do it. after a total of 51/2 hours we had air conditioning up and downstairs. My wife and I were very pleased with MATT, He is very knowledgeable concerning his work even on old units that were probably over 38 years old. We were so impressed we asked if we could ask for him if when we needed our fall servicing. He said many of his customers did the same also. We are very impressed with Automatic Climate Heating & Air Conditioning. A very outstanding organization that believes in customer satisfaction and having employees that put their customers first. I recommend this group to anyone that wants top of the line work and knowledge.
