London Sweeps Chimney Sweeps
The provider made time in a very tight schedule to check our chimney before the snow storm hit. We had just moved in and did not know if the fireplace was safe to use. With an extreme forecast and the potential to lose heat and power, we really needed to be able to use the fireplace. London Sweeps came the same day, made a minor repair to make the fireplace safe, and recommended a future cleaning. We have two gas fireplaces that have not worked in a few years which we hadn't bothered with until the recent bitter cold spell. (When the fireplaces first stopped working about 4 years ago, I had called another provider who specializes in gas fireplaces, and short version of the long story, our fireplaces weren't working again the day after their "repair".) I called Guirkin mid-morning and at first, they said they couldn't get to us until Monday, but then they realized they would have someone in the area for another job and said they would stop by sometime that afternoon. He arrived around 4:15 and quickly got the first fireplace started. He explained the reasons the pilot light may go out, including stating that they do eventually require replacement. He took down the model and serial numbers for both fireplaces to have on record for Guirkin and for us in case we start having problems again and need replacement. (So far both are still working fine. ) The upstairs fireplace had been turned off with the key (which I do not recall us doing, but apparently we had for some reason 4 or more years ago). I couldn't find the key, so he used pliers to turn it back on. Then he messed with the pilot light for several minutes and made some other adjustments, and it was working in about half an hour. He was here for just a little over an hour. He seemed very knowledgeable about gas fireplaces, providing a complete answer for every question I had. He also offered other recommendations, for example, using steel wool around the hole where the gas line comes in to stop some of the draftiness and to keep out mice. Overall, I was very satisfied and will be using Guirkin again in the future, particularly for yearly care and maintenance on our gas fireplaces as well as our heating and cooling systems

The fireplace was not turning on in Winter. We tried to figured out but could not. The person came on time, figured out quickly and essentially had to just turn on a knob with ignition switch and it turned on. There was no defect in fireplace. Overall, I liked the service, but I had to pay 90 $ for just to turn on the fireplace. I think, that's too much. I don't mind paying more, if it was a complicated problem. I should have clarified upfront, what kind of charges should be there, if there was no major problem detected

We had to reschedule a few times, but to offset this inconvenience, they didn't charge us for it. Great customer service. The fireplace has worked great since, and they discovered some problems with the original installation that they fixed and now it's actually running better than before. Andy was very professional and friendly. We are new to the area and have never had a gas fireplace. I appreciated his attention to detail and making sure I understood how to operate my no vent fireplace safely and confidently. He even took the time to make the flame beautiful replacing lost embers and pointing out that we should move a painting we had hanging over the fireplace as it might get damaged from heat exposure. I appreciated his knowledge and kindness to both me and my dog. I would highly recommend and will be calling them again next fall for annual maintenance. Thank you Guirkin

Only good things to say. Mr. Burgwin an helper arrived on time, they took care to wear shoe covers and do all of the things that show a healthy respect for someone else's home. Repairs and maintenence were completed in a timely manner, with professionalism and competence. The wall switch used to turn on and off the fireplace was diagnosed for me. I asked if he would not replace it as i would do that myself. No problem. Then it was on to the fireplace itself. He carefully removed the outer panels, and glass. The panels were taken outside for inspections, cleaning and painting. The logs were removed from the fireplace, thoroughly inspeced and cleaned as were the gas jets. The metal panels inside, were also cleaned and painted. The logs were returned to their proper place and Mr. Burgwin then added additional embers over the jet holes which provide the look and feel of a wood burning fireplace. Finally the glass was cleaned on both sides and returned along with the panels to their original places. My fireplace, looked and operated like new. I wholeheartedly recommend Burgwin Plumbing and Heating for your gas fireplace repair and maintenance

Technician came out and I gave him a description of the problem, He looked at the fireplace, took a couple of logs out and looked at the pilot. Tried to light the pilot with the fireplace igniter. I told him that didn't work, but lighting it with a lighter does work. Instead of cleaning the fireplace, which the Angie's List special called for, the technician recommended that I replace the fireplace with a new log set. He said that it was starting to rust (10 years old) and that finding parts for is would be next to impossible to repair the thermocoupler. He said putting a new log set in would be between $1,300 and $1,500. I decided before spending that amount of money that I would do some more research. I purchased some compressed air, took out ALL the logs, cleaned the areas around the log set, including the pilot assembly per the instructions in the manual (which is what I paid Guirkin to do in the first place), and reassembled the fireplace. Since then, the fireplace has worked great! Bottom line, it seems like Guirkin is more about selling more services/products than actually performing the work you pay then to do through "deals" on Angie's List

Prompt, professional, quick service. Very nice gentleman came out and inspected and cleaned our gas fireplace, which I don't even know if it has ever been cleaned before (we just bought the house last year, it is a 2000). Vacuumed out everything and made the glass shine. Difference is night and day. He was also able to answer some questions I had about it. I feel much better knowing our fireplace is safe for the winter and am really looking forward to using it on those upcoming cold days. They made sure that their feet were clean and protected our floors to prevent damage. The installation took much less time than expected. From the first time I met Josh, the owner, it was a phenomenal experience all around. He was insightful, creative and passionate about his work and it was obvious. I had about 5 other contractors to the house to help me with ideas and NONE of them, I repeat NONE of them offered any ideas much further than and quot;we can do whatever you want.and quot; There was a lot of confusion as to just where we should put our patio, and which pavers to use, etc. Josh was extremely patient and gave me the freedom and confidence to choose the best paver style and color for our yard. His knowledge of industry standards, and general know how have obviously been bolstered by years of experience. I was blown away by the final result, and the time frames promised were kept, except when weather didn't permit. If I ever have any other hardscape work to do (which we plan to in the future), Josh and Commonwealth Curb Appeal will definitely be my first call. Amazing service and professionalism, and the work is beyond stellar

I could not have been more satisfied. They performed a turnkey system - they contracted the gas/plumber to add a line off of our propane feed that we already had for the house, they supplied the electrician to run all the electrical work, and installed the generator. It was a very good experience.

We are very pleased with our new bathroom floor. We'd been having trouble with mold and water leaking through the floor to the downstairs ceiling. When our children take baths, there always seems to be some water on the floor. Whether a lot or a little water, it would always find its way under the trim and would seep into the subfloor. After only 2 years, the subfloor was rotten. He told us what needed to be done so that water was no longer going to be a problem. Recommended the products that would be best for our needs. He went above and beyond to ensure that all possible steps were taken so water would not be a problem again. He was very professional and courteous. And I might add that this mommy was so pleased that he was kind to my children as well. My 4 year old son takes an interest in construction and wanted to watch. He never was annoyed but rather showed him what he was doing and even allowed him to feel like his helper. My son was thrilled

I had an old, outdated fireplace that was cold and drafty and it never worked. Hearth and Home Shoppe came in and removed my old fireplace and old ugly slate. The sales lady I dealt with was very nice and very knowledgeable. They reinstalled a beautiful, efficient, fireplace with a new brilliant granite set. I couldn't be happier with the end result! No more cold drafts, the granite looks so much better than the old slate. The technicians were very professional and clean. They were on time, and took care not to damage my hardwood floors. The service manager is a really nice guy as well!! My new fireplace is leaps and bounds better than my old fireplace. I would highly recommend Hearth and Home Shoppe to anyone who is wants to update their old drab fireplace!
