Contacted Rob late-Aug/early-Sep 2016 based on a friend's recommendation. We set up an appointment for a quote. Rob arrived on time and after evaluating the entire home gave me an estimate of $7,750 for a 2,700 sq. ft. home without closets and the master bathroom (since we planned to renovate). The quote covered ceilings, walls and paint. The quote seemed high since our friends paid about half of that - approximately $4,500 for all walls for a 4,500 sq. ft. home. I mentioned this to Rob before he left. He said he would look at my friend's invoice and reach out to me. He also reminded me that he offers paint consulting from a designer for no additional cost. Before he left, I told him that the job needed to start quickly as we had family coming mid-Oct. He said that would not be an issue and once we had a contract, he could get me to meet the design consultant within the next few days and start painting as early as mid-Sep and get done by end-Sep. I did not hear back from Rob, so after a few days left him a message - around Sep 6. He called back on Sep 8 and left me a VM. I called back and he told me that the price was as quoted and that the reason the other house was cheaper is because they didn't have to do the ceilings. I re-iterated that their house was a lot bigger but he didn't budge from his price. I asked him whether he would be fine doing just the bottom level of the house and 1-2 rooms on the top floor so that we can keep the budget under control. He told me that was perfectly fine and that he would get back to me with quotes from the individual areas (he already had this information on his estimate pad). I never heard back from him!! I was tempted to call him back, but then decided that the level of initiative/effort to get my business was so sub-par, shoddy/unreliable work was sure to follow. I decided to forego hiring a painter, since it was already late-Sep, and they would not be done by the time my family arrived. It would be a little tedious project, but decided not to be held hostage to these "professionals". I am glad that I took on the project! I have only finished two rooms, but the care I took to prep - patching, sanding, removing caulking made me realize two things - 1. The painters would have never gone to this level of detailed effort, and, 2. It was much easier than I anticipated. I sequenced the work and the two rooms were done in a weekend. I could not have done it without the help of Emily and Anthony (THANKS!) from the Sherwin Williams store on Lauderdale/Gayton. They helped select the right products, made us wait till the right sales came on so that we got the best deals. We are using the best paint and supplies that Sherwin Williams has to offer - all for less than $1,500 for the entire home. Avoid Rob Hetrick at all costs to avoid disappointment!
