Mike was most knowledgable and polite. He worked quickly and left no mess. The feeling of security that having a safe house is irreplaceable. Mike made us feel safe. The owner, Barry, came by towards the end of the installation. He brought in an extra lock so that Mike would not have to leave our house. Mike and Barry have set a standard that will be hard to match from any other company. While my husband wanted top of the line electronic locks, their prices WERE very much in line with other providers and even less than some. The bulk of our cost was our four electronic locks. My husband and I are more than satisfied with the price and workmanship! Thank you Mike and Barry!

Although the deal presented said the provider would call me, I had to call them. They were however prompt in returning my call and scheduling an appointment. The service person arrived as scheduled and did the work specified in the deal. He was pleasant and efficient. Unfortunately the 'universal' keypad installed to replace the one I was using turned out to be confusing to use and too easily 'reset' so that it no longer worked. My very first visitor after its installation pushed the wrong buttons and the keypad was reset and would no longer work. I looked up the instructions for resetting the keypad provided by the garage door maker but we were never able to get the thing to work. It turned out that their instructions would not work with this unit. I had to call this service provider to come out again and correct the situation. He did promptly and this time I watched what was required and asked for instructions which were not offered on the first visit. It is not easy to reprogram this keypad and I only hope that is not needed again as I will probably have to call the provider out again. I was happy with the people I worked with, the cost and the prompt service, but am not so happy with this universal keypad.

AAE SECURITY SYSTEMS INC

Richard Hernandez (owner) and colleague Charlie Clendenin installed my system in 2001, shortly after I bought my 30+ year-old home. They provided all the information I needed when they came initially to meet with me before I hired them. They had the system installed while I was at work, and they had cleaned up the mess of installation by the time I arrived home. I am VERY PLEASED with my system and have already recommended AAE to all my friends, coworkers, acquaintances...everyone. They are responsive if I have a question or problem (only one problem so far - a battery died in one motion detector - Richard came out, replaced the unit at no charge). They are courteous and respectful of their customers' homes. Also, monthly service available - at one of the lowest prices I've seen. And the operators answering an emergency alarm are quick, friendly and eager to help. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Company is willing to negotiate on the price of the equipment. Installation went exactly as described. Monitoring service also works as described. We have accidentally set the alarm off several times. As part of the monitoring they check the phone line connection weekly and monitor the battery life of the wireless equipment they installed. Would highly recommend.

11/5/2018:: The installation went great. I had three installers show up and they were AWESOME. Rudy did the main install and Glenda (who I thought was just a a Sales Rep) came in to assist. She went around and removed all my old Richmond Alarm stickers and signs and replaced them with Johns Brothers. Wherever I wanted a sign or sticker, she put one. Taylor came along and helped to install the new key pads and smoke alarms. I can't say enough good things about these three. Everyone I have come in contact with at Johns Brothers is so friendly. Our old smoke alarm went off in the middle of the night and I called the next morning. Dana took the call and Great Customer Service and a friendly attitude has to be one of Johns Brothers' requirements to work there. Dana was so nice and she responded fast and asked for my earliest time of availability. Not their earliest, my earliest. And there was no time window given (i.e., between 1 and 5) as so many service companies give. Rudy came back and replaced the unit the same day and I have not had any trouble since. I LOVE the system and I LOVE the app that I am able to use to lock my back door, turn on and off the alarm and control my lights. I can't wait to order the thermostat that allows me to control from the app as well. I have a neighbor that watches my house if we go out of town. She is always fearful of setting off the alarm so I downloaded and set up the app for her to use. She LOVED it. I also set off the alarm once by accident and the response was within seconds. I HIGHLY recommend Johns Brother Security! The service and employees are the best you could ask for. Your home is safer in their hands. Prior Post: Ok, I haven't had my system installed yet (scheduled for next week), but I wanted to comment on what I have experienced just from researching and calling them. They know their stuff and they WILL NOT over-sell you stuff you don't need. In fact, they will talk you out of stuff. Also, they charge pennies for their install compared to one of their biggest competitors (Richmond Alarm). I have been with Richmond Alarm for over 20 years. Recently my keypad went out and it could not be repaired. I ended up having to get a new keypad. Since I have 2, I ordered both replaced. They came out and installed them (telling me they would be here at 8:15 but not showing up until almost 9:30, so much for my morning walk.) So, this visit will be costing me almost $400. In talking to the salesman, I mentioned wanting to be able to have a door lock that I can open via my phone. He told me I needed a module and a deadbolt and he said it would be $250 (as he would waive the install fee). Then when the guy showed up to install the keypads, he had no idea I was to also get the deadbolt and module. Called salesman and he said I never signed the document he sent. Guess what, the document was never sent. Then he resends and I get a document wanting to charge me $649.00. II did the math and thought it was going to be for everything. NO, it was in addition to the keypads. He said the quote he gave was just for the module. Why would I order a module without the deadbolt? So now, if I wanted to get it, it would cost me $1,000+. I was furious. I cancelled my service with Richmond Alarm. I called Johns Brothers Security and found out that not only can I have what I want, along with even more (video doorbell, lightbulbs that can be turned off by my phone). Guess what, all for $ 190. What's the catch? A service plan for 3 years. Heck I stayed with Richmond Alarm for over 20 years. Even when I add the $400 that I have to pay Richmond Alarm, it will be almost $400 saved. Plus, I plan on selling the keypads on eBay. I will update my feedback once I have the installation and see how they respond. But for now, you could not ask for BETTER Customer service. Their salesperson is honest and will not quote you on something you don't need. She is also friendly and so funny. Just call and ask for Glenda. 1

DYNAMARK SECURITY OF RICHMOND

The owner, Frank Pegram, came out to inspect my home and discuss my concerns and circumstances. He was very professional and personable. Told me about his company/business. We discussed my options. Being that I had a cat a downstairs motion detector was not advisable as she could be read by the sensors and trip the alarm especially since she jumps up on furniture. He took the time to explain to me how the motion detector worked and why it would not be advisable for me to use one downstairs. Hence my alarm system got pricey having to cover the windows. The equipment is mine however and after the contract expires if I should choose to use another alarm company to monitor my home the same equipment can be used. He also checked the wireless signal during his visit. Installation was done by Chris Brooks who was also very knowledgeable and personable. You could tell that he had been installing systems for some time. Very neat installation, efficient, asking for input and discussing options. After installation my alarm system was thoroughly tested and adjusted. Before leaving Chris also reviewed the keypad with me and answered questions I had (even knew what page to reference for my question!).

In the beginning, it was a little rough but it has been corrected and we've had no more problems. The alarm system sends a signal to our cellphones and the signal stopped coming in. I contacted their customer service and they reassured me that there were absolutely no problems. The power went out several weeks later and that persisted for about three months. I kept calling and they kept reassuring me that everything was fine. I determined, through research on the Internet, that things were not fine and actually my alarm was not turning on or turning off so I was not being monitored. We had not only the alarm but also the smoke detector as well. I spoke to a lady at their corporate office and got an individual who confirmed that our alarm was really turned off and we were not being monitored. They sent a technician out to replace the keypads and the battery to increase the signal strength at which point, we were getting notifications on our cellphone and that reassured me that we were being monitored. Because of the inconvenience and the fact that we were paying for a service that we weren't actually getting for five months, they gave us 12 months of monitoring for free. Had I not persisted, I probably would have continued to pay for a service that we truly weren't getting but when they did realize what was going on, they were very quick to fix it. They did follow up with me a couple of times. The young lady that I spoke with gave me her personal number to call in case we had problems in the future. It ended up being a very easy situation and we were completely satisfied. We still use their service to this day. It's $54.99 a month. It's a "B" on the Overall grade because I felt like I had to push the issue before they identified it in the beginning.

Vector Security - Richmond

Our 24 year old system is in need of updating. I called Vector and requested an estimate for the work to be done. Vector has been our monitoring system for over seventeen years and I was not surprised when I heard back, and spoke with the salesperson almost immediately. Then I received a voice message, my husband received a voice message, and we got a call back from another salesperson. All within 2 hours. A little overkill, but was told they had a new person who gave our estimate request to two people. Anyway, we did schedule a time to meet. The salesperson arrived on time. Never looked at our panel box, looked at smoke detectors, and keypads. Then sat down and told me what we could use. I was not given any choices, just told this was the best one to replace our system. He then wrote up the estimate. When I told him I always get three estimates and would get back to him he turned into a different person! He left and I have never heard a thing from him. I think I know why. I have now received three estimates including theirs. The other two estimates came in over $1000 less as long as we had a contract to have them monitor our system for three years. Both of the other companies looked at the panel box and recommended another box than the one suggested by Vector. And both of the monitoring systems are cheaper than what we have been paying at Vector for the past 15 years. Thankfully I was taught to get three estimates. I have saved myself $1000 and will save an additional $50 a year on monitoring. Wish I had checked into other companies years ago.

SimpliSafe Home Security

After years of rural living my home was burgarized in 10/2013 while I was at work. Needless to say a security system became a high priority. In this day & age most everything is cellular based and the old wired burglar alarms are a thing of the past. After a lot of research I determined that Simplisafe offered the best system and monitoring at the most reasonable price.I 'm not very good at technical things or putting things together, but I am proficient in reading and following instructions. If you can do the same then you can easily install your wireless security system. I can't believe there are companies out there charging the customer an installation fee for something that is installed by the customer. How crazy is that? I ordered the 8 piece system ($260) and added extra items (entry sensors, keychain remote & panic button) so I would have exactly what I wanted for my home. I received the items very quickly and installed everything on the evening I received the package. I read the instructions, plugged in the keychain remote into my USB on the laptop and guided my husband in the installation process. It took about an hour to get everything done from start to finish (we are a little slower I guess). Like I said, it is super simple and all internet based. You register, set your passwords, safe words, etc. online. Once you are done installating everything Simplisafe gives you 3 days to practice using your system. I was very grateful for this because my husband managed to set off the alarm twice in one day resulting in an immediate call from the Simplisafe representative. After 3 days your system becomes live and if an alarm is triggered will result in a call to your local police station if you don't reset your keypad or tell the Simplisafe agent that you triggered the alarm in error. I've added a few more things to my system and Simplisafe has always shipped them promptly to my house. As always the installation process was a breeze. I went ahead and ordered their smoke alarm since I live in a rural area. If the smoke alarm is triggered, Simplisafe will contact the fire dept for us. So far I've only encounted one problem with the system & it was a big one. Occasionally my system would lose the cellular signal so our home would be completely unprotected. I contacted Simplisafe and they determined that I needed a different wireless module. They sent me a replacement wireless module at no cost and I installed it into the base unit. All I had to do was return the existing module in a pre-paid envelope supplied by Simplisafe. I've had absolutely no problems with the system since then. You can buy their security system and you are not required to sign up for a monitoring plan, but what good is that? Their top of the line monitoring only runs $24.99 month and includes homeowner, police & fire dept notifications, and alerts via email & text (homeowner chooses types of notifications). I have nothing but positive things to say about Simplisafe.

Recent Review: It's working out fine. I had some problem with it to begin with. When they sent the pieces to me they had already batteries on them. I had to two keypad batteries and one keypad died within a few days when I set it up. The other keypad batteries died the following week but they did send me some new batteries to replace batteries. Anyhow, I had no problem with it.
