Reviews for Pocket Door Installation in Raleigh

Windows Doors & More Inc
I contacted Windows Doors and More for an estimate on 2 pocket doors. The response was quick but unprofessional. Here it is: "hi Bill, im not interested in quoting this job, way to busy." Wow, way too busy to be a little more courteous? How about saying, "Thanks for your interest in our company but due to our heavy workload we can't schedule anything in the next 6 months. Here's your estimate..." I guess he's doing so well that he decided not do something that would have taken 2 minutes. I'll strike him off my list of those who I'd contact in the future. I'd recommend that others do the same. There are too many good contractors out there to settle for someone who is unprofessional. That gives you an idea of what kind of work they'd do.

Randy L. Emmitt Repairs and Renovations installed 2 pocket doors in our house. The cost was $2,200. If you don't read the entire review below please read this: do not use this person's services. After reading the good reviews Randy L. Emmitt Repairs and Renovations on Angie?s List I set-up an appointment and he came for an estimate. He seemed like a nice guy. We discussed what was needed. His price was high for the work. For example on many websites about $700 to install a pocket door (which is a little on the upper end) but considering the reviews and since Randy has a long history of door repair I thought his work would be excellent. I couldn?t have been more wrong. We exchanged emails and since the doors had a ?T? junction w/another wall I emphasized that it was important that they were installed w/heavy duty beams. Additionally, I emphasized that if the downstairs door had any support beams that they not do the job on that door. He and his worker came to the house on the day we scheduled. It turned out that Randy wasn?t going to be around for nearly all the entire first day even though the labor involved 2 people to do the job (again in writing). Also, his worker uses some pretty salty language but that was minor compared to what happened later. First, it turns out that the downstairs door did have support (confirmed by a structural engineer) that they removed rather than stopped the job. Randy agreed and I have it in writing where he states, ?If the one down stairs has any structural components to support the second floor, we'd be best to close it up and not do it?? It turns out that the downstairs door did indeed have structural components holding up the stairs and they knew that because I asked his worker. They did the work anyway. Second, they installed cabinet wood for the joints when we had agreed on Sept. 17 and he said (in writing) that he would replace ?the wall stud tees with a steel reinforced 1 x 8 to attach to the other wall.?? But when I asked him if he had done this (he told me, ?no?). Randy told me later that instead he used wood he had just ?laying around his garage.? Now, we already have a hairline crack in the upstairs drywall where the drywall had a junction and we have to have a pier put in our crawlspace due to the way they installed the downstairs door due to them removing the support beams and putting the weight over a non-load bearing part of our floor. But it gets even better ? they didn?t do much as far as clean-up is concerned, until they left on the 3rd day. They set up their tools in the front yard, which doesn?t help when you?re trying to grow grass and did all their cutting there (that I had to rake out of the yard later). I had to vacuum each day after they left. After the second day we noticed that the paint on the doors and walls was dripping in places and that the drywall wasn?t even smooth: A mediocre job at best. And they had cracked an upstairs bathroom tile ? and of course never told me until I noticed it later. Since this has occurred I?ve contacted Randy and told him I believe he did a subpar job and owes me money. He refused to acknowledge that. I also sent him the structural engineering report (performed after Randy did his work) showing that their work had caused structural problems to our house and that we now need a pier. He refused to do anything other than come over and have me pay him more money to install the pier. Our home is a Drees home built in 2002 that had no structural problems ? home inspection and engineering reports done 4 years ago showing this. So now we have major problems due to Randy?s shoddy work and what I?ve also found is that he?s dishonest. Additionally, why would I want such a person to do any additional work at my house? Stay away from his person/handyman. I want him to refund me $400 and pay for the engineering report as well as the pier that we will have to have installed.

Excellent. Doug's company painted the downstairs of a townhouse that had been damaged by broken pipes and also installed a pocket door. They did everything they said they would and were happy to do some touch up that I requested. The floors and door both look great.

Bought an Angie's List Deal to get 3 hours of Handyman services for $99. The worker came out as scheduled and installed a screen door that I had previously purchased and fixed a pocket door that had come off of its overhead track. I also asked about getting a glass shower door realigned, but the worker recommended that I go with a company that does this for a living - which I appreciated. The work was done well, both worksites were clean, and both the screen door and pocket door are functioning fine several months later. My only minor negative comment is that Lowe's quoted me $95 to install the screen door; the worker from Gary's spent almost the whole three hours of the " $99 deal" on the screen door and about 5 minutes fixing the pocket door...while I got my money's worth I don't think the deal really saved me anything. Regardless, I would definitely use Gary the Handyman again for work on my house.

It went Great! I originally called one of the top companies on the list and they recommended Doug. I had Doug quote several jobs for me. I had planned to do some work on my own and decided to let Doug install some doors for me. He does most anything other than plumbing. On day one, Doug installed a pocket door for me, installed a bathroom door and built out the entry so the bathroom door would fit. He hung the dry wall, but I told him I'd do the mudding. The doors went in without a problem. On day 2, Doug hung 2 French doors and a new entry door. The total price included the entry door, some dry wall and the pocket door (not pocket door frame). The materials alone probably were $300 of the total cost. Doug even picked up some extra dry wall for me while he was at the store. I don't have a truck, so that made my life easy. I also asked a lot of questions and he gave me tips with the work I was trying to do myself. I would recommend Doug and plan to use him again in the future.

ials (which aThe repain turned out to be more complicated in that the damage was more severe than I realized, requiring a new door (which evidently is a custom size). Greg showed me the problems with the door and why a replacement would be the only option. I appreciated his straightforward explanation. They did temporarily patch some of the damage with new materials which may or many not be usable when I am able to find the proper replacement door (still considering my options). There was some caulk left on the walk they overlooked; otherwise the work was fine.

Robert and his team were very professional and extremely patient with this first-time remodeler. They moved plumbing, electric, retiled and expanded shower as well as installed a pocket door. Although there were a few glitches because I constantly changed my mind, Jason, Tony and Robert created a beautiful & peaceful master bath that I am very proud of and happy with.

Recent Review: Todd came out and reviewed the door and advised me on what would be a good replacement. The new door was ordered and then installed last week. This has been a great company to work Todd was very easy to work with and always quick to answer any of my questions. He delivered everything on schedule and worked with me to accommodate my schedule. Adam and Jim showed up exactly on time when they were scheduled. They did a beautiful job of installing the door and fixing the new molding to accommodate the new door. They also fixed some wood rot that was under the door. The new door looks and works great and I am very pleased. They also did a wonderful job of clean up and even blew off the deck when they were cleaning up on the outside.
