Reviews in Raleigh for Installing Pergo Flooring

Affordable Home Improvement

Matt worked hard and was so attentive to every detail. He was very professional and even let us start to move in while he was finishing the floors. He used our pre-purchased materials like they were his own and we even had some material left over to return. The floors are gorgeous and each detail was done to perfection. He even helped us make a few decisions about some small details and lent us a few tools so we could hang our curtains more easily while he finished his work.

Accent Hardwood Flooring
4.0
Considering how many people recommended them to me and the great reviews here, I feel it should have gone better. Everything was fine and the floors looked great until I looked more closely in the kitchen. A LOT of the boards had not been pounded together completely and there were numerous gaps. In a kitchen you really do not want gaps between the boards. I called and they sent two guys out to take a look. They brought wood putty, which they rubbed in to as many gaps as we could find. They left me some for when I found another gap. I commented that the work in the kitchen seemed inferior to the rest of the house and they said it was because of the particular guy who did the work in there. Then the floor, which is supposed to have a much harder finish than a site finished one, got a deep scratch from my moving something. I took care of that. I did end up calling the sales manager, Matt though. He came out and looked at the kitchen. He told me the only thing they could do was to remove the boards and do the area over, but it would compromise the integrity of the floor as it would affect the other boards. He also said when a factory finished floor is scratched, it shows up more than on a site finished one. So I guess it doesn't matter that the finish is harder because the scratches look worse. There was no apology or offer to make it right in some way. So now they have a not so happy customer. I hope there is no next time but if there is, I would get site finished flooring and I have to say I'm not sure I would have Accent do the work. I answered 'Yes' to that question because I am not sure. But I don't really feel I got my money's worth.

Leon Home Repairs
5.0
Overall pleasure to work with Chris Leon (owner) and his brother Edison, who was there for the entire job with a helper each day. Edison was professional, patient, and fast. The entire job was completed in 9 working days, mostly by Edison himself with no additional subcontractors parading through the house. We originally asked for quotes from six vendors, and Chris was the first to respond with a home visit and with a quote. The final price came within 10% of the original estimate, and included unforeseen work in my 35 year old house - floors that needed leveling, plumbing that had to be moved to accommodate a vanity I purchased, and a variety of small extra tasks that added up in total labor time spent on the job. The estimate given by Chris was straightforward - a quote for labor only, with an estimate for materials used in construction (plumbing valves and fittings, concrete board, drywall, shower waterproofing materials, etc.) There was no additional markup for owner purchases, and no separate charges for demo, cleanup, etc. In addition to the final invoice that I paid, I spent about $10,000 for owner purchases - toilets, vanities, vanity tops, flooring, tile, and a separate bill from a recommended contractor (Martin) for installation of a frameless shower door in the master bath. Note that Leon Home Repairs is not a design consultant. They do the work you request, and it's up to you to find the best brand or color of materials. Some other shops may offer turnkey service where you come into their showroom and just pick out what you want. If that's for you, fine, but you'll pay a lot more for the entire job. I was comfortable doing my own research and picking out quality, functional items at good prices, much of which came from the Home Depot (online, where there's a new world of choices beyond what they sell in the store). The biggest luxury purchase was tile, where I spent about $2000 (included in the $10,000) for quality imported porcelain tile for the small master shower and floors. In fact, waiting for the tile to arrive from Italy held up the job midstream from my end, but Chris was accommodating in moving his schedule around to time the arrival of the tile. Overall, I was very pleased with all aspects of the work. After admiring my master bath tile now for about six weeks, I still can't find any tiles out of place, crooked, or mismatched. A superb tiling job by Edison and a great experience all around.

We were extremely pleased with the work Jason did. He was responsive to our initial quote request (even came out on Sunday to do the measurement and quote. On the day of the job, he was on time, polite, and kept the work area very clean. He addressed several challenging areas, including 9 doorways and a stair nose that required creative placement and cutting of Pergo's stair nose material. We were also quite pleased with the price. Our hallway looks fantastic, and we would certainly use Jason again for other flooring work.

Flooring by Design
5.0
Jon came out to give us a quote. He arrived on time and was very responsive to my questions via email as I tried to select a company from the three that I had quotes from. The quote from Flooring by Design was in the middle. The most expensive quote (~$1000 more) did not include moving any of the furniture and would only apply 2 layers of oil-based polyurethane. The least expensive quote (~$500 less than Flooring by Design) included moving only a couple of pieces of furniture, but did include 3 coats of oil based polyurethane. However, that quote also indicated that there might be additional charges that could be applied once the work was in progress. Flooring by Design agreed to move all of the furniture to other parts of the house or garage, strip, stain, and then apply 3 coats of oil based polyurethane, and when the last coat had dried, put back all the furniture. All quotes indicated that it would take about 4-5 days of work. We agreed on a starting date and the first crew arrived, although about an hour later than I expected since their GPS sent them to the wrong place. Another 2 man crew arrived somewhat later after they finished up another job. The 4 men moved all of the downstairs furniture to other places (including the refrigerator) and covered up built-in cabinets, bookcases, cupboards, and counters with plastic. We had previously moved all of the wall hangings. In the afternoon Jason appeared and we discussed the stain I wanted. I was concerned about one area in the kitchen where the floor was sun-bleached (after 12 years), but much darker where an area rug had covered the floor. We were trying to use the protected area to determine what stain to use. They were able to do the first strip that day as well. On the second day another set of men also arrived late having been sent to the wrong address by their GPS. I would have thought that the first crew would have alerted the second group. They re-stripped the old polyurethane and stain and they gave me several options for the stain color. We decided on one and someone was sent out to purchase the stain. I believe they stained the floor that afternoon (2nd day). On the 3rd, 4th, and 5th day they applied the coats of polyurethane. On the 4th day we noticed that although the stripping and staining had completely fixed the area in the kitchen that i had been concerned with, there was now a section in the library where there appeared to be a big difference between the protected and unprotected areas. We discussed this with both Jon and Jason and the crew were instructed to try to fix it prior to the last coat of polyurethane. They were moderately successful, but in doing so another problem appeared - some uneven application of polyurethane which appeared in wavy ridges near the entry way. In addition, we found some spots where it seemed no polyurethane had been applied on the last coat. Jason and I inspected the entire floor. I pointed out what we had found and he even found a few other places that we had missed. The polyurethane issues were all fixed, although there was still a problem with the uneven staining in the library. We let the floor dry over the weekend and the crew returned on Monday and moved the furniture back. There were some issues with the refrigerator, since they didn't want to roll it directly on the newly refinished floor. They had some sections of board that they used to disperse some of the weight, but luckily we had some old Pergo flooring from our last house that we gave them to make the process go a little faster. Overall I was very satisfied with the work performed and think it was excellent value for the price. My one issue with the company is that although they offer to move furniture, they are really not equipped to do so. If they want to provide this service, they really should invest in some dollies and belts (to keep cabinet doors closed) to do it safely and properly.

FISHER HARDWOOD FLOORING
5.0
Matt Fisher gave us a quote and a timeframe for the job within half an hour of a no-nonsense home visit. He explained the process, what his company's responsibilities are and what we would need to do. The wood was delivered and it was beautiful, and also sustainably harvested, which we appreciated. His crew was efficient, polite, meticulous, and very knowledgeable. We got stain samples displayed on our newly installed floors, which helped us to determine what we liked. They made the new floors mesh with the refinished, 40-year-old floors, perfectly. We are very pleased.

Recent Review: This is the second time I have used Carolina In Home Flooring to install hardwood floors. The first time (4 years ago) was to install hardwood floors in my kitchen, foyer, and powder room. This time was to install hardwood floors in my living room and dining room (which connect to the foyer and kitchen respectively). As always, they did a great job. Lonnie, the sales rep, gave me several options on how to make the old floors match with the new floors. Fidel and his team (Miguel and Francisco) installed the floors and gave me the results I wanted. I am very pleased!!

Recent Review: We initially contacted Flooring Coverings Intermational to replace our existing kitchen floor that had been damaged due to a dishwasher leak. Marty Hartwell listened to our concerns and after finding out we had some leftover vinyl tile he indicated repairing the section of damaged floor was possible rather than replacing the entire floor. That kind of honesty and no hassle sales approach is hard to find. Marty is warm, caring and truly wants to do right by his customers. We didn't need a new floor, we needed Marty Hartwell and Floor Coverings International. Based on this amazing experience, we will definitely be contacting them again in the future.

Recent Review: Simon refinished our hardwood floor 10 years ago and our floors needed a buff and coat after some rough use and a lot of traffic over the years. We were hoping that he would still be in business despite the pandemic and help us again. We were so happy to find out that he was still in business and he would have time to do the job for us. As before he did a fantastic job and the floor looks like new again! Couldn't have asked for anything better.

Recent Review: Chris arrived promptly at our home at the time agreed upon. He is very knowledgeable of his craft and worked very efficiently. He installed the flooring in two bathrooms and we are very satisfied with the result. He even removed and installed two vanities in our bathrooms although it was not part of our agreement simply because we asked. I would definitely contact Chris with Happy Flooring again for any of our flooring needs and would recommend him to others as well.

Recent Review: Arturo (lead installer) and Rosa (office manager) are proprietors of the family owned and operated business Scorpion Flooring and were a true pleasure to work with. They were the first of four quotes we sought and received. They not only were the most responsive to our many questions (and patient with us as we changed the scope of our project on them), but they also they came in as the most affordable. The other quotes were from businesses that were either stores with annoying salesmen that subcontracted or were larger businesses that seemed like they didn't really need or want our business. Arturo is a true craftsman and him along with his associate Hector actually saved me ~$1000 on the expensive Maple I purchased by pointing out some (to my layman's eyes) minor imperfections in the cut of the planks early on in the installation process that when I took pics and pointed it out to the store of purchase I was able to negotiate a partial refund rather than wait for another shipment which would only delay my project with improved product quality quite uncertain. The look and feel of the final installation was great and we were very happy. They worked with incredible pace and care. Highly recommended.
