Reviews in Raleigh for Refinishing Hardwood Floors

Olvera Hardwood Floors

It went well overall. End product costed more and took longer than expected due to a finish change (went with water based poly as the oil based one was extremely toxic) and the fact that the surface was pre-finished and took longer to sand. And there are a few swirls from the sander that are visible in several areas.

He didn't want to do sandless refinishing, which is what we asked for, he wanted to do sanded refinishing which is a lot more expensive. We decided to hold off on the project for now.

We had Janar and his crew refinish three bedrooms, hallway, stairs, living room, dining room and office areas. The pricing was competitive with others contractors in the area, and about what we expected. Janar was very helpful, responsive and timely throughout the process, from the quote to the completed projected. We chose a natural finish and the commercial-grade water-base finish and were very pleased with the results. Started on Wednesday morning and the crew finished up by 4:00 on Friday afternoon. The floors look beautiful. We'd be glad to recommend Green Step.

Accent Hardwood Flooring

Fourth time Accent has done a job for us. This was a small job, but they have done much bigger jobs very well in the past. I asked for an extra coat so the gloss on the refinished area matches the old, and am very please with the result. They are on time and experienced professionals.

Communication between owner, crew, and customer a little rough. Crew did a fantastic job, floors look better than original. Crew covered pictures tv on walls etc, but seems like the sanding truly was dustless! 3 days to sand entire first floor and steps, and 3 coats of highly rated water based urethane. No puddles, dirt or hair in the finish. Looks great.

Accent personnel showed up on time and performed the work as agreed, including sanding, primer and two sealer coats. The floor looked beautiful when it was finished.

Terrific job. Amost entire 1st floor was 18 year old hardwood - terrible looking. Now it is better than when new. Multi-step process from covering surrounding area with plastic to several sanding efforts to final finish coats. Well done.

FISHER HARDWOOD FLOORING

Matt Fisher and his team did a really good job refinishing the oak hardwood floors in my house (about 700 ft2). The floors were partially sanded when Fisher took over the job, but they did a good job finishing the work and I'm very happy with the results. Since the floors were already bare, they were able to finish the work very fast (in under a week) and were able to start on the project within days of hiring them. I was very impressed by how punctual both Matt and his crew were; when I said I would meet them at whatever time they were there waiting and ready to start. I got several photo updates throughout the process so that I knew exactly what was happening on each day and Matt was very responsive to all my questions and concerns.

Simon Hardwood Floors

From the beginning I felt good about using Simon Hardwood - Eric was very easy to talk to and clearly knowledgeable about what he was doing. He was easy to get a hold of and was able to accommodate my short time-window. The crew could have easily finished this job in 2 days; they used 3 which is what I expected, but they worked quickly and efficiently and still returned a high-quality product. The foreman on site was great about reaching out before he came, and was easy to reach as well. The work I had done was refinishing red oak floor as well as replacing carpet on the stairs with the red oak, and I left it the natural color (no stain). The floors were perfect, and the only flaw I noticed on the stair was a minor, unavoidable gap and Eric was helpful in telling me how to hide it with wood filler. I would definitely recommend them over anyone else I got an estimate from, due to their work quality and their fair pricing. My only negative was that I was unaware they would need to take out the toilet in my small half bath, and they couldn't put it back for liability reasons. I'm glad that they did it so that the floors could be done properly, but Eric was unable to notify me that that would happen as he happened to be out that week. I feel that if he was in town I would have known and there would be no complaints. And another heads up to future customers, they do the best they can getting up all of the dust, but its a messy process and prepared to vacuum everything afterwards. *One photo is before, the other 2 are after

We planned the refinishing for a particular date and made it coincide with a vacation trip since the refinishing would disable our kitchen and the odor and dust might be discomforting. A key was given to the representative to allow workers access. When the time arrived we left town and the workers began their task of refinishing the two floor areas. When we arrived back in town we found the beautiful floor waiting. The representative arrived the next day to inspect the work with us present. All were satisfied and the bill was paid. End of story.

Recent Review: Initially things went well. The salesman/estimator came out to see our floors and provide a quote. He was dressed professionally and was very knowledgable. For example, he immediately recognized the existing color of stain on our floors. He also recommended changing the shoe molding color to white, something our realtor also suggested we do (apparently a trend). He explained the options we'd have with stain color, how many days it would take to complete, when we would need to vacate our home, etc. We sought quotes from two other area companies, but chose Carolina In Home Flooring even though they submitted the highest quote. I called the office to ask questions about their quote, as it was not broken down by cost per foot and the other quotes were. I wanted to truly compare "apples to apples." I was genuinely interested to know why their service cost more than the others. I didn't know if maybe the refinishing crews were company employees vs. sub-contractors or something. In asking that question and letting them know they were the highest quote, the owner offered us a slightly lower price. We received from them an initial quote of $3,975.91 and a revised quote of $3,560.85. We decided to go with oil based polyurethane finish rather than water based. While water based carries low odor and dries faster, it would have cost an additional $423 that we didn't want to spend. We chose CIHF on Friday, April 6 and received a call either that same day or the following Monday from the project manager to schedule our project. It was a two week wait which seemed reasonable. The crew showed up Monday on time and went straight to work removing the existing shoe molding, moving furniture, and draping the other spaces to protect them from the dust. We took our dogs to the kennel for the week and left the house for the week. While an initial team of 5 arrived Monday morning, there were only 2 who stayed behind to do the actual sanding and refinishing work. We periodically received text messages with pictures of the progress. Initially we were happy with what we could see in the pictures we got. However, when we got back to our house Saturday afternoon, we were far from happy. The finish on the polyurethane was gritty, textured and clumpy pretty much throughout. Stain had been splashed up on the baseboards and walls in every room. The shoe molding (quarter round) had only been primed and even the primer coat wasn't done well. The shoe molding install was sloppy with gaps at many of the joints and some pieces were short while others were too long. We could see swirl marks in the wood, globs of poly in just about every corner and under the toe kicks in the kitchen. The stain was not uniform at all with light and dark areas throughout. What a nightmare! We had been very specific and emphatic in explaining that we were refinishing our floors because we were getting ready to put the house up for sale. And, to top it all off, the toilet paper roll in the half bath had been ripped out of the wall and was hanging there, our fridge had been damaged and the kitchen table had not been put back in place. I contacted Eric, the project manager, and let him know what we found. He sent Antonio back to fix our issues; TWICE. After two returns without our issues being resolved I spoke with Eric on the phone for at least 20 - 30 minutes expressing my deep frustration and regret. He promised to make it and right and said they would do a complete re-do on the floors with the SAME CREW. He worked hard to convince me he would supervise them closely this time. After initially agreeing (feeling I didn't have a choice), I called the office and explained to Martha the situation. She said she would have company owner Mike call me back. Within 15 minutes Eric called from the office and explained they would be sending a different crew. The new crew (2 guys) arrived on Thursday, April 11th. We again kenneled our dogs and headed for to a local hotel (now absurdly expensive because it was graduation and Mother's Day weekend). Fidel and Juan started over from the beginning and completed the work in 2 1/2 days (versus 6 for the original work). The results were worlds better than the first job. In the end, we're very happy with how the floors look and feel. However, getting here was a huge hassle and headache. Even though we didn't have to pay Carolina In Home Flooring any additional money, it cost us quite a bit more than what we initially expected with hotel x2, kennel x2, meals out over those 9 total days x2, the expense to repair our half bath ($150) and have the baseboards professionally painted ($375). If you choose CIHF, be sure to find exactly who they're sending to do the work.

Recent Review: I was very pleased with the services Cesar's team provided. He returned calls promptly, arrived as scheduled (actually ahead of time) and performed the job exactly as described and cleaned everything up when finished. When I had a question about the finish, he came back the next day and resolved it for me. Again, very pleased, and especially glad to work with a local company.

Recent Review: Triangle Floors was the 3rd company we called to get this work done. The first one we called would not take any jobs costing less than $2,000, which was much more expensive than our small job (10' x 12' lobby space at our business). The next one we called came to measure for an estimate, but we never heard from them again. Ricardo came when scheduled and gave us a reasonable written estimate that same day. After the job was finished, the floor was damaged by our heavy furniture being placed back on the floor, prior to the floor fully drying (the coating/sealer manufacturer's recommendation is 72 hrs. until fully dried). Ricardo had his crew come back a second time and do substantially more work to fix the new damage. They did what was necessary to make sure the floor looked perfect, even though it required additional work. I appreciate that Ricardo was committed to making the customer happy. Ricardo was punctual for the estimate, but the actual work crew did run a bit late one day (hence the "B" for punctuality). Overall, I would highly recommend Triangle Floors.

Recent Review: Required hardwood refinishing and new hardwood installation totaling about 2500 sq.ft. Work was highly professional, attentive to details and wonderful results--especially since the company expertly finished both red oak and white oak hardwood to match. Two weeks total from start to finish and the home was broom cleaned completely. Highly recommend their services!
