We came home from vacation the Sunday before Memorial Day this year to find that our 15 year old flimsy garage door had buckled in. We were not sure how this happened, but it was unusable at that point. We contacted Precision Door early in the morning on Memorial Day, and they had someone out at our house by 9 AM. They promptly assessed the problem (spring failure), and gave us several options of how to proceed (fix current door with new springs, order new door). They gave us good information/advice on the decision, but they did not pressure us at all to go in either direction. Since this door was old and was just a "spec-house-special" (poor quality), we decided it was time for a new insulated door with windows and dual springs. Again, they showed us our options which were many, and told us the prices. They sounded reasonable. I had already poked around on Angie's List to find out what people had been paying for new doors at many vendors, and they seemed to be in the ballpark. So we went ahead with it. It was going to take a few days to get the new door in, but after a $100 deposit, the technician went ahead and minimally repaired the existing door with a new temporary spring. So we could at least use the door. This was all on the Memorial Day holiday! And they finished it in all in about 1 hour. The new door arrived in about 2-3 days, and they immediately contacted us to set a date/time for installation. Again, the technician was on time (early). They were able to replace the door in about 2 - 2.5 hours. The door itself was perfect -- even better quality than we thought. The door works so much nicer than the old one did. And now we have more light in the garage, and it stays warmer/cooler in extreme temperatures. We were very pleased with the overall experience. The only issue we had was that the technician did not seem to be able to adjust our existing automatic garage door opener to make it work properly with the new door. I do not fully fault the technician on this. Our garage door opener had been acting up for at least a year -- not working consistently/correctly even with the old door. So I think this is what he was struggling with. I was able to reset the door when I got home, and it worked properly (for a little while) after that. But I do want to say that I am extremely displeased with Overhead Door brand openers -- I bought this one at Lowes and installed it myself just a few years ago, and it already started to flake out after about 2 years. I've had experiences with 2 other brand openers at other houses before (that I installed), and I never had problems like this. I guess I would say that I was a little disappointed that the technician could not at least diagnose what was wrong -- I think Precision Doors specializes in Overhead Door brand. But to be fair, this was not what we were paying them for, so I can see why he did not feel that he could spend any more time on it. I'm sure that they would have been happy to have us buy a new opener from them and replace this one, but I am not interested in Overhead Door brand openers anymore. Plus, this one is relatively new, so I couldn't bring myself to spend the money on it yet. At any rate, we were still very pleased with the overall experience. We would use Precision Door again -- just not to replace an opener unless they switch brands.
