Reviews in Portland for Stump Removal or Grinding

HEDGEHOG TREE CARE, INC
5.0
Fantastic company! Jim and his team are a wonder to watch. My 28 year old flowering pear tree had developed an ominous lean (into the the street) and, since the neighbor lost a huge branch from the same age/species a few months ago, I decided that mine had to come down. Jim's bid was very fair, he handled all of the city tree removal permitting, and today he did the job. These guys really are amazing--and totally safety oriented. Used a cherrypicker arrangement to get up in the tree to trim branches out and then took down the main trunk. He uses a remote controlled stump grinder that is in itself an amazement. The wood was cut up and stacked for easy retrieval. This team was on time, totally professional, consistently hard at work, dedicated to safety, fastidious in their clean-up, and friendly and thoughtful. I couldn't recommend Jim and his group more highly.

Three 30+ year old maples, and attendant stump grinding went quickly, smoothly and at the lowest price of the three bids I received through Angie's List. All their equipment was topnotch and I should've sold tickets to my neighbors who were all fascinated by the robotic stump grinder. All told they took about 4.5 hours from beginning to end and though I will miss the trees (**** HOA) the experience was quite painless. Everyone I dealt with was courteous and helpful. I highly recommend these guys and I have already done so with my neighbors who are requiring the same services.

Great! Our tree was large, but Roger and his crew finished the whole job in 1 day. They even cut and stacked some firewood for us. They left our yard tidy and Roger was a wealth of knowledge about tree replacement ideas. They are fabulous to work with.

Rich Ezetta Stump Grinding
5.0
I've had several very large trees removed from my property recently. (Since these were old and very large trees, it was difficult finding someone with equipment large enough to do the job.) I contacted Rich Ezetta to coordinate having the stumps removed. He came to the site and provided a fair estimate to do the work; we then scheduled for him to do the stump grinding within a few days. He arrived promptly, and quickly and thoroughly completed the work. I found him to be very accessible and responsive.

They showed up prompt for the estimate, but when it came time to do the work, they showed up on the wrong day. Since I was at work, they couldn't complete the job. Then they had to reschedule my original day because of overbooking. They showed up the second time and cut down the tree but didnt' cut up the wood for me to use saying they didn't have the right kind of saw. I double checked with the office about the return date to finish the hedge trim and confirm that I didn't want stump grinding (too expensive). They showed up the following week while I was at work and ground the stump . I didn't realize this until someone called to confirm that I wanted this done and I again said no. Meanwhile I am still waiting to hear from them about my hedge trimming. They did find time to send me a bill for tree cutting and...stump grinding. I paid the bill for the tree cutting and called them (again) to sort out the stump grinding- this time asking to talk to the billing person. I have since learned that the girl at the front desk is unreliable. I spoke to the billing person, who said it would be taken off my invoice. I ended up cancelling the hedge trimming and asking to give my feedback to the owner. After about a month, I got another bill... for stump grinding. I give them an overall C because he was apologetic and ended up replacing the front office staff. I think he is honestly trying to restore his business

ROBERT MORSE STUMP GRINDING
5.0
I was putting in paving stones for a patio/path and an old stump was in the way. I called Robert Morse and left a message. It took a few days for a call back after leaving the initial message, but the work was done on a Sunday afternoon. It was done quickly and professionally. Not only was the stump removed, the area I needed to dig up for the patio was loosened/tilled to make dirt removal much, much easier! All in all, this saved me days of labor if I did it by hand, and was not much more expensive than renting a stump grinder and doing it myself.

I received great communication from the staff - very prompt and professional. The estimator was quick and helped clarify details needed for my insurance company's paperwork. The work crews arrived first thing in the morning. One crew did the tree removal and another crew came a couple days later to do the stump grinding. Very professional, quick, and did a great job cleaning up after completing their work. They will return in a couple months to do replanting in the fall. I would use this company again in the future for any sort of tree service.

Bottom line: not a great experience. I've debated with myself over whether or not to write a review. I don't want to be whiny, but I'd like to share my experience, so here are the facts: 1. The quoted (and final) price was fair. 2. The recommendations that the arborist made for trimming my old tree were sound, and in agreement with other experts. 3. They were able to accommodate my request for scheduling the work, but they scheduled it on the last weekday of the window that I gave them. They showed up too late in the day and with too full a truck to finish the tree-removal job on the date scheduled. They did about half the job, and just assumed it was OK to finish the work the next week, which was outside the agreed-upon window. I needed to get the job done by Saturday because I didn't want them cutting down or trimming trees while we were out of town. They reluctantly agreed to assemble a crew to finish the job on Saturday, but only after several hours of hassle and several heated arguments with the supervisors who were on duty Friday afternoon. 4. The tree removal crew seemed to be expert, but several bushes and shrubs were damaged by falling debris, and there was no acknowledgement of the damage. 5. The Saturday crew completed the work, but not without disagreement with us about the details of the tree-trimming. I was promised that the certified arborist would be on hand to direct the trimming, but he was not on site when they trimmed the tree, and the crew did not do the job we expected: they cut away branches that the arborist(s) said should not be cut, and refused to trim some of the branches as we expected. When we contacted him, he did not return to the site to resolve the issue, but just directed the crew to leave. 6. The stump grinding was scheduled for a later date. We were specifically told that curbside car removal was not needed for stump grinding. But, when the crew arrived, they immediately left because parked cars were in the way, and rescheduled for the next week, even though they were well aware that the project needed to be finished before the Friends of Trees planting date, 2/28. There was nothing they were willing to do until I worked up the ladder to Jeanine, who seemed empathetic. She arranged to have the crew return the next day, but they could only work if we were able to get the neighbors to move their cars overnight. We scrambled around after dark to get that to happen, but it wasn't until the next morning that we knew for sure the curbs were clear. 7. The stump grinders returned on schedule, but the sidewalk and a couple of landscape pavers were cracked in the process, again with no acknowledgement from the crew. Those are the facts. My overall customer experience was of disappointment and hassle, and I'm a little concerned that my old tree was trimmed inexpertly. I believe this company has opportunity to improve its integrity with commitments and its sensitivity to its customers' experiences.

Chip-Away Stump Grinding
5.0
Randy did an excellent job! He came out to verify that there were no issues w/ the concrete curbing that surrounds my yard, which was close to the stumps. Chip Away also verified that there were no utilities near the stumps before grinding. The work was done very professionally and I could not tell that there had ever been stumps in the three locations.

Recent Review: The communication with Daryl was excellent. From the initial estimate to performing the work he showed up when he said he would, got back to me when he said he would, and the job was done as described.

Recent Review: Eduardo's did two separate jobs for us. The first was a small stump removal in the backyard. For this, they showed up as scheduled, did what they said they would do, was courteous, and all at a very competitive price. Based on this experience, we asked them to bid a second, much larger job: the removal of two 50' tall dead sequoia trees surrounded by nearby fences and our house, which was less than 20' away. We had put off having these removed for years because of expense and risk of damage to our house, fence, and yard. However, Eduardo's provided an incredibly competitive bid and had a large crew show up on the day they said they would. They fell the first tree in sections, and then fell the second tree in its entirety exactly where they wanted it to land. Neighbors lined up to watch the feat. They cleaned up nicely, removed all of the wood and ground down the extra large stumps. We gave them a 'B' for Responsiveness only b/c they told us they would finish up on a Monday (they didn't finish on Friday), but didn't show up on Monday or Tues of the following week without letting us know. As soon as I called Tuesday afternoon, they were immediately here to finish up Wednesday morning. Overall, we highly recommend them. They do awesome work at a very competitive price.

Recent Review: Keith Mitchell, owner, was very professional and courteous in returning my call and scheduling a service time. I sent him a picture of the tree to be removed and he send me a text bid for tree removal to also include the stump removal. I had a $200 discount coupon to apply thru Angie's List. Crew arrived a bit early for appointment. They were very fast, efficient, and professional. They also did a very good job of clean up of all debris after tree was removed. A second partner company, Kreiger's Stump Removal came a few day later, after utilities were located, to actually grind out the stump so we could plant a replacement tree. Pat Haddler, owner, works with many northwest tree removal companies. He was also prompt and efficient. He was careful to put down plywood sheets and barricades to contain debris and keep the yard and sidewalks clean. The entire process with both service providers was professional and efficient. Price for the job was very reasonable. We would recommend both service providers to anyone for tree service and/or stump removal.

Recent Review: Excellent work on all counts: The crew arrived right on schedule. They removed a large diseased Norway maple in a difficult location, worked efficiently, safely, and cleanly. All debris was cleared away. No damage to surrounding plants or structures. Stump grinder did an outstanding job in spite of the difficulty of access. It was a pleasure working with all employees involved.

Recent Review: Best price of the 3 quotes I got. Arrived when scheduled. Brought in 3 man crew to take down 50 ft dead Cedar and Ash trees. Limbed and chipped and brought the trunks down in chunks then cut firewood rounds. Ground the stumps. Cleaned up nicely. I am happy with their work. Only negative was timelyness of communication. I would leave messages and several work days would pass before I got a response.

Recent Review: The rep was very professional and we discussed all that I needed done. It was more work than the "deal" covered but the rest was done at a very reasonable cost. They removed all debris and left the work areas looking perfect. I'd definitely use them again. I like that they offer other lawn services beside just trees.
