Everything went well. The company was great. We decided not to use this company, not because of anything on their part, but because we decided not to follow through with this job.

I went with them because I thought the designers were really good. They are my favorite contractor. I really have a lot of trust in the quality of their work. They keep good track of their sub-contractors. Their sub-contractors are good. They work on a lot of beautiful projects. They work with architects and designers who have a lot of trust in the quality of their work. They get more high end projects. My project wasn't terribly high end. There was a problem with the skylights leaking. We hung in there for a year, and they found someone who could figure out what was wrong with them. The skylight company didn't stand behind the skylight. Cascade didn't just shrug their shoulders and tell me to contact the skylight company. Cascade tried a lot of different things and then found the guy who knew how to fix them.

We had a 1970's glass sunroom on the front of our home that was too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter, leaked and was an eyesore to boot. We wanted to turn it into a space that we could really use and at the same time, retain our great view without breaking the bank. This was a big decision for my husband and I so we solicited five bids in total. Mark and Thomas Yoney were the only ones to suggest we tie in an existing set of living room windows to carry the line across the front of the house. Up to that point, we were having trouble conceptualizing the completed project but that recommendation really enabled us visualize the end result in our mind's eye. They seemed to know exactly what we wanted to achieve. Mark was at our home every morning and again most every afternoon, checking on the day's progress and examining the work. Mark obviously has very high standards which he also demanded of his crew. The job site was cleaned up every day before the crew left and great care was taken to respect our home and furnishings which we really appreciated. The crew was great and Terry, one of the guys on the crew, was truly a delight. Members of the crew had years of experience in the field of home building and remodeling and this shows in their work. Our only real surprise was finding some dry rot, which was repaired during the course of the project. We are absolutely thrilled with our new room and look forward to next Spring when they will be back to replace our exterior front stairs and porch and do some exterior painting for us. Mark and his crew were experienced, skilled, thoughtful, considerate and absolutely a pleasure to do business with. We can honestly say that Cascade Valley Construction exceeded our every expectation!

We hired Joe for our exterior remodel and could not have been happier with the result. Joe and his entire team are perfectionists, with extreme attention to detail and high standards for the final result. They noticed many things that we would have glossed-over, gave us all of our options when unexpected circumstances arose, and went above-and-beyond at each step of the way. Joe is honest and trustworthy, easy to work with and a great communicator. We've recommended him to several friends.

They installed a Four Seasons pre-fabricated sunroom which we like very much. Unfortunately, the designer who wrote up the contract had surgery while the job was carried out, so we were disappointed in some aspects, and slow to receive satisfaction in others.

They were a poor company and had to hire someone else to complete the work. The workers had no experience. They couldn't complete the work in one or two weeks like they said they would.

Neil Kelly Company

The project was a disaster. The first project manager was incompetent and was fired, the second was brought in to ram the job through. Unreliable subcontractors, poor workmanship, bad measurement led to rework. Massive, inexcusable rates charged for the quality of work received. I ended up scaling the project down to bare minimums just to get them out of my life. The architect was a good guy, and we worked well with him, but the rest of the company - no. I ended up doing the GC work myself after Neil Kelly was out, then ran out of money and am still working to finish the job. $100,000 down the drain for work that likely should have been $70k total. Hard lesson learned.

It worked out really, really well. Their quality of workmanship and the things that they took to make sure everything was gonna last stood out to me. My interaction with them was great. The crew was really fantastic and took all of my concerns to heart. They did all kinds of things to jump through the hoops. It is very good. There were no problems with having to have them come back. They did it right the first time.

Recent Review: Over all the job went well. It all took longer than we anticipated but that seems to happen in construction. We encountered some snags which included finding asbestos and having to have that removed. The carpenters were fantastic. Jasper and his crew worked quickly and accurately. The finish carpenter, Reggie, was precise with all the details. The cabinet company did a fabulous job and all the cabinets throughout the house are exactly what we wanted. While there were some issues encountered, Tim was quick to get it all resolved. The only crew I was not pleased with was the paint crew but Tim addressed that, and made sure it was done to his standards. I will be calling Tim in a couple of years to work on our basement.

Recent Review: Spoke with Wes about potential project, and our special interest in retractable walls. He was very straight-forward and clear about things that go into overall cost of sunroom (size, height, type of glass, doors, windows, glass to floor or pony wall, all walls plus roof of glass, or part traditional materials) plus 2-3'footers under all walls of the structure, and addition by HVAC for heat and dehumidification. Their sunrooms are efficient enough to take down an exterior wall of the house, and have the sunroom serve as the exterior wall. Others that have low energy efficiency by WA laws must maintain a door between house and sunroom. Ballpark estimate was provided and noted that a crane may be required to life beams in place. Global Solariums in Vancouver, WA manufactures the sunrooms, and Wes speaks highly of the engineer that reviews the design plans. I was very impressed with his clarity and concern that I have a good understanding of likely cost and why. We agreed that I would contact him if and when we are ready for a site visit, which we will do if we decide to proceed. At this point, the cost is too high for us to proceed. (ballpark est. $100K-with 76K for sunroom at past year's average cost per square foot of roughly 170/sf ($120/sf and higher than $170/sf which again varies by the list provided), plus 24K for HVAC and concrete. I love when information is provided without high pressure or manipulation, It shows respect for the customer, and it speaks to the integrity and honesty you can expect when the job is getting done.

Recent Review: Our first meeting with Hamish was in September of 2007 (a few weeks prior one of my co-workers pointed me to "Angies List" where he had found Hamish's listing and subsequently used his company for some remodeling work). After our initial meeting we began the process of working with a designer to get our ideas down on paper for the next stages of the bidding process. After some trials and tribulations with this so called "designer" (and a subsequent lawsuit and judgement) we finally broke ground on our project in the late summer of 2008 (after having to find a certified architect to completely redesign the plans). Once all of the bids, contracts and permits were in order the project finally got underway. One thing we really appreciated with Hamish is that he is very patient and willing to let people pick and choose what work they would like to tackle themselves (without having a fit). In our case we wanted to do all of the interior finish work, so he structured his bids around this fact and helped to minimize the costs for interior work that would be left in our hands. Another quality Hamish brings as a general contractor is his calm demenor when you talk with him, but on many occasions when a delivery was incorrect or someone wasn't doing as expected he will be the first to call BS and get it handled properly (I liked seeing this considering the extensive length of our project). I have to call out one particular individual on Hamish's crew for going above and beyond during this project, Casey. His attention to detail during the framing and exterior finish work was great, if something didn't look right to him he would run things by my wife so we could discuss it that evening. I think if it hadn't been for him things wouldn't have gone as smoothly during this 6 month project (not to take away from the other guys on Hamish's crew, but for a very hands on DIY guy like myself I needed someone like Casey on this job). Overall, with it all said and done, it was a heck of a project to do over a fall/winter. If you're going to do a major remodeling project I would highly recommend contacting Hamish for a quote, he's not one of these turn-and-burn outfits like you see in some of these remodeler "tour of homes" shows in the Portland area where the firms want to lock you into a $20,000 upfront design fee (non-refundable) or gouge you on various internal costs leaving you with no money for materials and then expect you to sacrafice on the finish materials (yes this is actually true, we interviewed over a dozen firms for our project and you would not believe the BS we heard).
