I made the appointment with polite office staff, and they were able to fit me in 4 days out. They told me that the service person would arrive on that day between 1 and 2 PM. Todd arrived at 1:00 on the dot. He was polite, friendly, and a good listener. I explained the problem (on our 14 year old range, one large burner had gone up in flames and partially melted, while the other large burner had not worked in years). I also mentioned that our budget was pretty stretched. I told him that, before he came, I had tried plugging the burner element from the non-working one into the receptacle where the flameout had happened, but there had been a lot of smoke, so I'd quickly turned it off. He tactfully suggested that the burner, having been unused for so long, might have some grease buildup. As I cleaned the burner, Todd checked the receptacle for the long-time nonfunctional burner and found that the problem there was the switch, not the receptacle itself. He let me know what the price for the switch would be, and the price for another element. Although the prices quoted seemed fair, we are in a tight financial spot, so I let him know that I could live with having just one of the 2 large burners functioning. (After all, I'd been doing that for some time!) Todd plugged the cleaned burner from the non-functioning back spot into the front one with the intact switch. After a bit of smoke, it tested out fine, and he explained the process as he went. He told me that if we decided to replace the other burner in the following 30 days that he would come back and do it without another trip charge. I feel that I was treated with honesty and respect. In fact, this was one of the most pleasant contacts I have ever had with any service person. We intend to do business with Spencer's again in the future.
